You should check out gummy 1.2.0 ICS rom. Just about eveything works now. Kindle app doesn't work without a workaround but everything else works. DX has never been better. You will need to go to another forum to get the 1.2.0 version but if you google around you'll find it.

I currently have Liberty X 2.0.1 (Froyo based) installed on my Droid X and was looking to upgrade to Cyanogenmod, which is Gingerbread based. My question is what's the procedure I have to go through to get from Liberty to Cyanogenmod? Sorry for the newbie question.
If u know how to sbf I would just go to cm7.com and install the latest nightly for the droidx and flash it right of foyo and if the didn't work sbf to gingerbread and try it from there but I haven't had cm7 on my phone in a while but I'm pretty sure I installed it right from foyo becauae I remember coming from liberty to cm7 and loved it

No offense to this guy, but I think i should clear it up a little bit. Since you are on froyo it will be easier to go to the official CM7 nightlies because, even though they are gingerbread, they run off of the froyo kernel.
There are unofficial nightlies that run off of the gingerbread kernel already, but it will be very complicated process to get there.
Here some tested instruction on how to get on the official and unofficial nightlies. Let me know if you have any questions!
http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?1633-HOW-TO-Installing-CM4DX-or-CM4DXGB
Go to the link below, it explains the process in great detail. If you want to use the "official" nightlies (based on Froyo kernel) then do the section titled "for froyo kernel rom". Don't worry, it's still gingerbread based, just using the froyo kernel.
If you want to go to CM7 based on gingerbread kernel then you'll have to get to gingerbread .596, .602 or .605 first. Read the section titled "for gingerbread kernel rom".
http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?1633-HOW-TO-Installing-CM4DX-or-CM4DXGB
I just went from .605 to RevNumbers' CM4DXGB the other day, loving it so far. He just came out with a new release which is on page 375 or 376 of his ROM thread. I haven't tried that yet but will probably update this weekend.
Can someone give me a link that will be compatible with my nook color it is currently running cm7 and gingerbread version 2.3.7 the original nook version was 1.3

Latest are now listed again here - http://roms.miui.us/
I would think you need to do a full wipe from whichever CM you are on.
Hockeyfamily has a thread for this in the dev section. He and others are working on an ics version so don't know how often updates will come thru'. The current version works fine for me right now, tho'.
Cheers,
I have a Motorola Milestone 2 bought in colombia.
Model A953

Kernel 2.6.32.9-g1afa902 [email protected] #1
Build number MILA2_U6_3.15.0
Revision 3
So with all this info, my question is how to i flash a rom to this phone, and what roms are compatible?

First, check if there are any existing upgrades for the stock ROM. This can be found under Settings -> About Phone -> Check for updates.

done it, no service side update, thats why im loonking for a custom rom
You must look in the Android Development section and choose a rom that you like (i use CM9 by Tezet) there you will find a tutorial explaining what you have to do. Most of the roms have the same install procedure but sometimes these procedures change a bit.

I was looking at that one last night, but couldn't understand if my kernel would mean a problem to flash the custom rom.

You say you're using Froyo (2.2), so it won't be a problem.
Just don't apply the official gingerbread rom from the carriers Vivo (BR) or Personal (AR) and you're good to go.
It's taken me quite a few hours to figure out my new phone, then learning all this new jargon, rooting and install mods all using a Mac. I'm just curious if there's anything else I could do to give my Defy a little more of a kick. I just read a little about upgrading my OS. Good idea?
Here are my specs:
Model: MB525
Android Ver: 2.3.7
Kernel Ver: 2.6.32.9...
CPU: ARMv7 Processor rev 2 (v7I)
Mod: CyanogenMod-7.2.0-Jordan
Build No: GWK74
Also, the only hiccup I seem to find is when turning off (or not having a signal of) WiFi, my data connection doesn't work... unless I reboot. Is this an issue with Defies?
No, updating the ROM is a very bad idea, everybody on xda can tell you that! ^_^ ok just joking!
So if you are already on CM7, you should know how to flash custom roms, so what's the question?

to fix data conection you need install defy baseband changer v4 , select your company and check if the APN configuration is correct

Any suggestions for a newbie? i.e. which OS is the smoothest, any overclocking that would be recommended, ways to keep the battery lasting longer etc. Just general stuff since I'm pretty worn out from all the searching thread to thread so far. Cheers.

What is the correct baseband for the US?
This is what I've found so far:
forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/19285-motorola-defy-mb525/page__st__300#entry235847
Edit: US T-Mobile 3.4.2-107-9 Seems to have done it. I also checked APN and I was on the auto AT&T selection but when I checked my carrier's APN details they were identical, if anything the phone's defaults had more details than my carrier provided!

CM7.2 is the most stable build for Defy, but its pretty outdated,
You can try CM9(ICS), its great. And definitely JB is new, its usable but isn't totally bug-free.
I'd suggest you give those a try and just stick to what suits you best.

Cheers. I may try CM9 but i don't really have any complaints with my CM7. What would you say are the reasons for upping beside having a more recent build?
CM9 is little slow for my .... try Whiterabbit 1.5 o 1.6 is a custom cm7 whit better battery backup
