On here are about as clear as mud.
I can say thanks for the hard work you guys put in but you really need to stop assuming that everyone is programing at degree level.
After 4 broken mouse a broken cup and 4 sleepless nights I'm giving up trying to root the wildfire..
I don't even want the thing in this house anymore!
That's funny I followed them twice with no complications at all and I knew nothing about Android and have basic computer skills, don't blame the guides here for your own incompetence. Those guides have helped hundreds/thousands of people to gain root, if you're having problems why not ask like everyone else does, though I doubt you'll get much help now.

Maybe you just don't have enough patience and willingness to put time and effort into your phone. I rooted my wildfire the second day I got it, no problems at all.
PS: epic ragequit bro. A broken mouse and a mug. Over an android phone.

When I rooted mine I had zero knowlege of Android past "this app looks neat" and I did it in an hour or two (didn't get much sleep that night. too much new stuff to install)
But seriously, if you just use a third party tool like Revolutonary, it's as easy as pie.
Download tool->plugin phone->install drivers (if necesary)->run tool->follow simple onscreen instructions

I just think folk could be a bit clearer at times and then when your not having success further in the post someone chimes in with another 'even easier' solution lol, well so they say so your away again and suprise it doesn't work or something isn't clear so you go back and aw well the loop continues until you litteraly break!
I give up the phones old hat now anyway!
Relax A Minute!
@Tevion74
I can understand where you are coming from, before I bought my Wildfire I had never even used any PC Linux Distros (distributions) and had a lot of reading up to do, but the main thing I had to remember is this:
KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON LEARNING
whenever I had a problem rooting or now when I am trying to do something with my wildfire - I will not just dive straight in, research what you want to know IN DETAIL
and then if I am still in doubt, I will ask one of the great devs on here, such as Scratch0805, Heavy_Metal_Man, Sympnotic and Arco68 and Hacktrix2006 - but there as so many that I can not name all the people that have helped our friend Willy Wildfire progress to where its at!
My point is, dont just try and do it if you can't, RESEARCH, and if need be - ask for help.
There is always people on XDA willing to give help to those that ask and don't tant.
Dev? Me? Far from it mate, I have no knowledge of Linux based systems at all, well except what I've learnt here, it has all come from reading guides on xda.
I struggle to understand when erwinp, sympnotic start talking in the cm9 thread.
I think of myself more an advanced user who's not afraid to have a go.
To the op if you post your problem in the thread of the guide your trying to follow we'll try to help you and figure out where your going wrong.

You just need to understand that this is a forum. If a member of a forum has a problem, he can post about it and other members can help him solve it. That's how forums work
I'm 100% sure if you posted about your issue in the relevant thread, you would've gotten a solution in 2 hours, if not less.

agreed. im sorry if my reply seems harsh (my hasty responses can be) it just frustrates me when people come with grievances and seem to have not asked for help on the matter. if you had asked for help, read the threads and still couldnt get the help you wanted then i would understand. (we have all been there before). our members try there best when righting guides to make them as user friendly as possible. we all need to start somewhere and alot of us come here with little or no knowledge of linux or android. if we can do it you can do it. these things just take time and paitence.

Look ya muppet, if you read the guides as carefully as you read my posts I'm not surprised you can't get root. Me and you both seem to have a bit of an attitude so let's just leave it.
Yes we kind of clashed the first couple of posts I get that and offer my apologies, it just p's me off when people throw a fit and blame others because its themselves that can't follow a simple step by step guide correctly. This forum is what it is because of people asking questions and others answering them. I'm offering to help you as that's why we're here and I know other people will too so just chill out, Buy yourself a new mug then have a cuppa tea n we'll try to start again and get you up n running!

I purchased my wildfire in South Africa and to gain root i couldnt use the regular way, i researched day and night, by the way this is my first android phone, i knew nothing what so ever about what i was doing but because i just applied myself into the task, the day i decided to finally root, it took me less than an hour. but now im fairly competent in fixing this and that on a rom, so shoot your questions, we will answer..........this is XDA, we can do anything.
Ok thread cleaned and closed.
To make things clear here.
XDA is a developer forum and not everyone's personal tech support.
Mostly everyone in here tries and reads the guides and the wealth of information included for their own benefit.
If you dont like the current guides then by all means make your own and offer something back to the community.

Why do I want the 2.1 Market Fix?
Evening,
What benefits do I gain from getting the 2.1 marketplace fix?
New apps? Better Apps? MORE APPS?!?!!!
I feel as though I should be in eager anticipation of it but I've no clue why?
Post it in the right spot, and I will answer.
From my understanding, The market fix is for users OUT of the USA. It enables them to see all the apps, instead of a limited amount.
Isn't it nice to just get an answer to your question
I guess some people dont mind being on their high horses. Like seriously, its a forum. Get over it.
Next time, just try and post in the right section. Then people wont be so snarky towards you.

Why do you have a holier than thou attitude? I understand you've been mistreated on these forums but you don't need to mistreat those who have done nothing wrong. You do a lot of great work and most people appreciate it even if they can't express it well, this has nothing to do with your dev work, which is excellent. You just come off looking like an asshole when you post things like that. You could have easily answered his question but chose to be condescending. It only makes the situation worse. You can yell at people for not searching or not posting in the right spot all you want but you need to realize that a lot of the people who come here are visiting for the first time and haven't seen all of your complaints of mistakes that almost every newbie makes. Sorry if I offended you somehow, just my views.

A) Wrong market patch is a project I have been working on, has nothing to do with being outside the US. Isn't it nice getting an incorrect answer. It enables a full market on these custom roms, allows you to switch between device specific markets, and maybe some surprises.
B) Forum is flooded, and if people read the rules they would know where to post stuff.
Isn't nice getting the wrong answer from someone who doesn't know what they are speaking of?

As a new member to the community(like myself) I know it can seem overwhelming at times trying to find out correct way of doing things, troubleshooting, terminology, etc. When I first entered the forum I read somewhere to read, and then read some more before you ask a question and thats what I have done. You will learn so much more if you do your own foot work, and not assume your the first to ask. I have yet had to ask one question (so far) because If I had an issue, I took the time and researched the topic at hand, and always found what I was looking for and more. Trust me theres been a lot of them too and I've spent many hours looking through these post, lost and frustrated, but I knew what I was looking for was there. So save some of the members that were here way before we even knew what Rooting was from repeating there selves over and over again. We owe them that, save your questions for an absolute last resort. You will be helping everybody, including yourself(in the long run) a lot of aggravation, and will allow the Senior members to stay focused on more important, newer topics. At any rate I want to thank anyone who has contributed useful information that allowed me to Root and customize my wife's Evo, My buddies epic, and my Evo. Having been on XDA for a long time now I know that there are a vocal minority that will say "so what" to this post, but that's okay, I'm a happy camper today. The reason that I'm a happy camper is that when I got my Evo just about a year ago I didn't know anything about android. We had what seemed to be a 20 step root method using ADB that frankly scared the crap put of me when I tried it. It was nothing like using my old Mogul.
Today I was able to help 3 different people with problems. It was one of those good news / bad news situations. The bad news is that probably 90% of the folks here still know more about android than I ever will. The good news is that I'm now competent to help those other 10%!
I know, doesn't seem like much compared to out forum "greats," but 3 thanks from 3 different threads is a personal accomplishment for me.
Aha Congrats! I love helping people out although i don't know much as most people here in xda. Everyone learns one thread at a time!

I was the exact same way. I was a complete noob until I had CM7 running on my old Hero a few months ago (6 I think?) then I got the evo and since about 3 weeks ago, I started helping people out. I even made a perfected batch script that pulls apps from /data/app and for devs I made a /system pulling script.
Congrats man for being one of the good guys.
This is exactly the sort of thing that everyone on XDA should be all about. I've personally come a long way from mucking around with ADB to root my Hero and it's really nice to be able to help out every now and then.
Nothing wrong with taking pride in helping others! There are some things it's ok to be proud of, that's one of them! I, too, was a complete noob when I came from iPhone to EVO. At first i just read every thread that had an interest to me but soon i started to read questions and thing "Oh, i know that answer I had this problem already!" or maybe someone else had the problem and posted about it and I read that thread. Before long I was helping people fairly regularly, Up to 17 thanks so far which I know isn't that much but for me it is since i still really know very little about android. But remember it doesn't matter how little you know, as long as you share it!
Some of us remember well the days before internet came around. There were no communities like this. If you needed to know something and it wasn't in a book you owned you went to the library and spent all day looking it up! Now any 8 year old can google anything in 5 seconds. And with smartphones they can do it anywhere. Communities like this one are making sooo many things possible that just weren't before for most people, and people that are willing to help others are what makes it all possible!

Agreed. Helping out people before they make the same mistakes you did, or helping them fix a problem, answering their questions; it's like being a parent guiding your kids, and that's all good.
Agreed. xda is head and shoulders above most forums I've seen for having people willing to take the time to help with both simple questions as well as helping unwind over-the-top complicated disasters.

Hey, that's what a community board is all about. Helping those that need help and getting help in return. At one point even the developers were "noobs". They had to start from scratch with only each others knowledge and a couple computers and phones. After years of giving each other a helping hand, they were able to crack every code all the manufacturers created to lock down the true potential of the phones and have made XDA the biggest and best. developers website there is today.
I've decided to try be a contributor to this community however im already stumbled on my first step which is how do I get Eclipse installed and working. Watch this video, should explain how to set it up.
You don't install Eclipse, it's a stand alone package rolled up in a zip/tar file. You extract it, double-click on the .exe (if windows) and it will run.

STFU, at the least the guy is trying. Contribute or get out of here.
OP: Are you trying to write apps, or develop ROM / port things for the phone.
If you're trying to write apps, this might a good reference point:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/projects/projects-eclipse.html
However, this may not be the right forum if you're trying to learn how to do that.
If you want to make ROMs or port.... that's considerably tougher and you usually don't use Eclipse for that....

Don't really care about this guy. At least I got my answer. Tysm for the video link. The first thing the video discusses is how confusing it is to get started just trying to download JDK.
Secondly, I plan on first making some basic apps and understanding the way Android works. Then, possibly may go more advanced with themeing and such.
Lastly, I want to point out I'm not alone in this post. YES you can GOOGLE what I asked for in this thread. Hardly any of your search results you get back from Google will be clear and concise and I appreciate some people understanding that not everyone is fluent in the ways of Android development.
I flashed mostly everything interesting on these forums whether its roms or themes or mods. I look up to the developers at ACS among all the others.
I believe this is a relevant post and a lot of people feel the same way I do.
Thank you.
I am also heading down this path. Do you have programming experience?

Lastly, I want to point out I'm not alone in this post. YES you can GOOGLE what I asked for in this thread. Hardly any of your search results you get back from Google will be clear and concise and I appreciate some people understanding that not everyone is fluent in the ways of Android development.
I flashed mostly everything interesting on these forums whether its roms or themes or mods. I look up to the developers at ACS among all the others.
I believe this is a relevant post and a lot of people feel the same way I do.
Thank you.

Theming/ROM/Kernel development are seperate from app development, as I'm sure you are aware. Two different beasts entirely, actually. I would start with ROM and theming ventures first to really learn how the operating system works, then move to kernel development to see how things are actually interacting.
App development is a whole 'nother ballgame, writing apps in Java is really the nitty gritty of the works. To understand this, it would help to know how things in the OS work.

I am also heading down this path. Do you have programming experience?

Yes I do. I've had experience in Java it's just been years! But um I don't think the basics of programming will be any trouble. I've already attempted to read up on some Android Programming Tutorials. My main hurdle was getting this set up on my computer so I could follow along with a guide. I do realize themeing and developing are apples and oranges but they are both interesting to me. I read someone's post long ago (not sure who) to begin writing apps and then maybe try one's luck to create ROMs.
Hey bud, congrats on trying to learn this stuff. We at ERA started out just as you did about 3-4 months ago with a similar post. It is tough going at first but there are plenty of people out they're willing to help. The devs in this community are great and I feel confident in speaking for ERA, and from coming from where you are, that if you need any help or have questions feel fee to pm us and we'll do our best to help.
Like I said it was a post like this, a couple dudes messing around on our free time, and some great help that led to what our team has become, so anything is possible, bro. Good luck.

Hey thanks! That's even more inspiring to hear from you guys at ERA especially since i'm enjoying the new legendary ROM... And wow 3-4 months ago? I highly doubt I'll get to that level in that same amount of time but I've flashed everything for this epic and we all know at some point we're going to run out of things to flash until we figure out how to port ICS over. That's the time I would like to be a contributor to the development for this phone. thank you so much for the support!

Some of you know me, some don't. I'm more active trough PM then trough posting. But this is something that is bother me for a while and I think a lot of us.
And it can't be done trough PM, believe me, i have tried....
We all (if we are fair) know that the x10 is old mobile. And the most of us don't use a mobile longer than 2 years. So why o why read I so many post of people that are complaining about a update from a dev. Let them move on and give new dev's a chance
My personal top 3 irritations!!!!!
1) if you can't do it yourself, be grateful for everything they do for us and don't complain!!!
2) if we (the users) get a new mobile, how many people still stick to the x10 treads? So why expect a lot of people that the dev's must stick to the X10 forum and development further!!!
3) if a dev don't post for a while, don't post non related post in a DEVELOPMENT TREAD and complain about a update!!!
I have talk with a lot of members trough a personal message and told them about the post they have placed. But I think its a neverending story.
I think when the Mods are more harsher and give quicker a warning and ban people, then maybe people think twice what they post. I know that the mods help xda in their spare time and do all they can. But when you make a couple statements, the word get spread and maybe maybe this will work!
thanks for listening to my complaint
Even though i bought a Galaxy Note, i still read the first page of the General/Dev/Q&A section of the X10 forum daily.
You are right about people complaining to developers for updates, but that's just the way it is. It doesn't have to disturb you, or anyone. Most people ignore these types of begging posts anyway.
My experience in forums showed that having strict moderation won't do a thing. It will only lead to more drama. I know you feel you have to do something about this, but believe me its better if you relax and don't do anything at all. The mods know their job and doing the best they can. Talking to individuals via PM's and trying to explain why they shouldn't do this and that is not only time consuming, but as you can see, it lead you being frustrated enough to start this thread.
This thread will be read by (lets say) 1000, will be replied by 10-20, some may agree, some may not. It then will crawl it's way on the bottom of the page until a similar thread pops up. (There, just saved you some time )
Bottom line is, it's the interwebz. Don't get too attached.
But he is right though

RANT AHEAD!
Unfortunately, you are right. People feel its a right they possess to get the developer to work non stop for them. Things in the x10 forums are still relatively mild though... In the atrix forum, the CM7 thread had to be closed for a period of time due to people complaining and demanding for fixes. And the "thx" posts. Here's a classic example

lol, before this thread gets closed i would love to point out that we have had our moments here, we can mix it with the big boys
I have given up with my classic posts of
1. use search next time
2. rule number 1 is not to ask for an eta
3. read the OP
4. why dont you make a backup and try it yourself
its just not worth the ware and tear of my keyboard to make them anymore....
but, we were all noobs once, a bit of tolerance is should be given
im totally agree with you,but hey,you cant fight fire with fire, that just leads to your "never ending story"
Hi,
This is my defense, take this thread in the X10 forum...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356580
I have just counted 93 posts deleted by moderators and with the warnings posted, about a dozen took vacations for ignoring the developer and moderators warning of being a Dev only thread. Just because you do not see warnings posted everywhere does not mean nothing is being done, most problems can be sorted out using the new infraction system, we use that all the time now, it is easy to use and straight to the point.
This type of thread cleaning and response is happening all the time, reported posts are dealt with much faster and if anybody needs banning, senior mods are available on gtalk to sort it out immediately.

You harsh, Nah. (I do however get the feeling it was you that closed my first thread posted here.) But having an Avatar that is a Happy Face , with a "Heidelberg Scar" doesn't really convoy a feeling of warm, fuzzy comfort to people. More like good mod / bad mod and Colossus= good mod; he even warns people in a very nice polite way. But temporarily freezing threads seems to be doing a great job of allowing the tensions to diffuse. Kudos for that.
