[Q] Texts between android and w6.5? - HD2 General

Hey,
Sorry if this question has been answered before, had a quick search and couldn't see anything.
I've just got myself a HD2, and it came with W6.5 and a cyanogen gingerbread ROM on the SD card.
Now I think I'd like to just use android, however there are a couple of issues.
a) I've received some texts while on W6.5, and I can't seem to get android to find them? (tried getting texts from SIM but it says there aren't any)
b) I want it to boot directly into android if I'm going to use it, but the usb port on the HD2 is a little broken, which makes stuff rather difficult at times, including wanting to install stuff, should I just get a micro sd card reader and then put something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732392
Directly on it?
Thanks
George

For the text message problem , try to move the texts from WM(Windows Mobile) to SIM memory , then boot in Android If that doesn't work , try putting your SIM in another phone , to see if the texts has moved . If it doesn't work , then there might be a problem with Android ...

SD Card mount problems, and browser issues

Hi,
I received my new Hero as an Orange upgrade two days ago, and so far I'm pleased with it. I've read all the posts and done a search but I'm having a problem in mounting the SD card.
I've had PDA/Smartphones since they first appeared several years ago so I'm familiar with the concept of Smartphones but until now I've always used Windows. I decided to try the Hero because I was getting frustrated with Windows Mobile, and Orange really don't offer an affordable upgrade path on that platform.
The main problem I've got at the moment is that the MicroSD card won't mount. This is new to me, coming from Windows, but I think I've done everything I'm supposed to:
Connect the phone to the PC, check that it's recognised, pull down the Notification screen and press "Mount". I'm offered the screen that explains what I'm about to do, but when I press "Mount" and go into Windows Explorer a removable drive appears, but when I try to access it I get this "Please insert a disk into Removable Disk (R) - (I have a lot of partitions!).
If I put the SD card into a reader the contents appear as expected, and music I have on another SD (4GB) card (from my previous Windows phone) plays with no problems.
I don't know what to do.
Another problem I have is with the browser. I don't know if it's got anything to do with the problem I've described or not - I'm new to this OS. When I press Browser from any screen / location I get a page of coding, and although I've tried to set up Google as my homescreen I always get this irritating screen of coding which should be page of basic instructions about Orangeworld, and I have to navigate to get Google, for instance. How can I get rid of this annoying page?
I won't go into the strange behaviour of HTC Sync in this post. Enough's enough!
Any help would be gratefully received, thanks.
John.
I bought a brand new SD Card and put some files on it before I got my Hero. Turned out that I needed to format the SD Card using android itself (in settings menu).
What do you call a page of coding ?
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I'll have to reply in reverse order.
The page of coding I'm talking about shows all the instructions which should display a page of options of Blackberry setup, suggesting the wrong browser. "Please change your default browser".
"The page you are trying to access is only available via your Orange phone when connected via Orange GPRS network".
There's lots of other stuff, but I don't think it's relevant.
The second issue, mounting the SD card, responding to your suggestion of formatting the card: I can't even read the card that came with the phone - the one that contains the instruction manual & HTC Sync. I've downloaded these files from the HTC site so I'm OK in terms of trying to do the basics, but so far my attempts at interaction with the phone are non-existant. Hopeless for my purposes.
I've only got a few days left of my "cooling-off period" before I send the phone back. I don't want to do this - please help.
Thanks, John.
John,
You will get this Orange message if you try to access any of their pre-installed pages over WiFi. If you connect over GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA you will see the Orange World page.
Hit the 'Menu' button and change the 'Home Page' to a non Orange URL. Orange set Orange World as the default Home page.
You should be able to read the included SD Card ... Wierd, so you are right, I don't think that formatting the card will help. I'm afraid I can't help you further.
Thanks for your replies. Now here's a strange thing. I tried everything to get the SD Card to mount yesterday, and the day before, with no success at all. I plugged in today and it mounted at the first attempt! It was the very first thing I did when I turned my desktop machine on. I didn't do anything to the phone or my computer - I don't understand, but let's hope it stays this way. Thanks again.

[q] invalid sim error

Ok so since nobody wishes to answer in direct rom forums, I'm going to ask my question here. I was very successful with Android as that's easy. Installing WP7 was also a breeze and the whole unlock thing cool. Problem is no matter what WP7 rom I try I always have an "Invalid Sim" error emergency call only. I am in canada with my provider being WIND mobile. Am I correct in saying that windmobile sims just dont work with windows mobile? or is anyone else having the same issue or is there a fix for this. All i am asking for is a simple "proper" response without the flaming. I've searched. I'm not new to xda but i am new to wp7. thank you
WOW Ok..
Can you borrow a different carriers SIM (from friends / family / colleagues) to test with, see if that works? That would help to understand if it is your SIM or the install of WP7. TBH it does sound like it is the SIM that is at issue.
edit: I just checked and the HTC connection setup app (from the market) does list both Canada and WIND, try it
Hey first of all thanks for a response. I'm also thinking it's not the sim (i'll try my wife's rogers sim card when she gets in from work.) because it works perfect with winmo 6.5 and Android without issue. I tried 3 WP7 roms and none worked with the sim..which boggles me
OK so after using my wife's rogers sim card it worked perfectly so it IS the wind mobile card that is not compatible with wp7. I guess i need to find a way to make it compatible if there is one.
I've gotten sim errors on my real hd7. To fix it, I have pulled the battery and reseated the sim. You might try to get a new sim from your carrier, just tell them your old one is acting up.
Tried that a few times and figure it may just be my SIM period although it's strange that it works without error with the android roms. But yeah imma go into Wind and grab a replacement and see how that goes

Did a new SIM help you, or did you do anything else?
After I have entered my PIN my sim is working fine, but after some time it says Invalid SIM.
/Regards Lars
I think it's an issue with the Roms. I think there are a lot of people getting the invalid sim error. I use the BlackSideSeven rom and I've seen several posts about it in the thread. There are also several other threads started about possible fixes and stuff.
Here's a link.
The easiest way to resolve is to turn on airplane mode and then switch it off. It doesn't stop it from happening, but at least you don't need to reboot.
Error in Android as well
I am having the same problem with MDJ Froyo 2.2. When I reboot into winmo 6.5 great signal all fine. I did notice that the simm card did move in the slot possibly bad connection. Now that I reseated the Simm all is fine. I also just read about antenna issue with the HD2 going to open and fix it to see if that helps.

[Q] No Wifi Connection

Dear HD2 Experts,
i have the mobile Phone HTC HD2 with "HD2 Windows Phone 7 frantic V 1.0" ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=956870 )
I tried to connect to my own Wlan/Wifi, and it shows only "search" and nothing comes out!
do anybody knows something about it???
Best regards!
Try switching to a different MicroSD-card. This is one of the issues that seems to pop up if Windows Phone 7 is unhappy about your choice of card.
There's a thread listing "compatible" cards, you could check there for suggestions if you need them. Results are not always consistent, though.
100% agree....with meptik!!!
if you don't have another SD card and before buying new one try to re-flash the ROM, but before flashing... hard format your SD card....

[Q] HELP! Talk, text and data not working with new TmoUs account.

Hello I am experiencing a BIG problem . I Successfully flashed a Nand rom to my phone last year it worked great but after some shortcomings I could no longer afford my pay as you go plan. My phone service had been cut off for about 7 months until yesterday, since it was off so long I had to get a new Tmobile(us) account/SIM card. My phone booted up in android as normal with full 3G service bars but when I went to make a call it said "This Carrier will not allow phone calls to this number" shocked I went back to Tmobile to make sure my account was active and it was. My text also do not work and I cannot sign into my gmail account either. Ive searched the web and it does not seem that anyone has a solution to this problem PLEASE help me !!
Did you try reflashing it?
There are a few things that could be going on here:
1. tmobile has you on the wrong data plan which has happened to me in the past. The had me on a blackberry plan which messed up a lot but you should still be able to make calls.
2. You have a balance left over on that phone and tmobile has locked that phone
3. you need a new sim card. tmobile will gladly change out your sim for a new one for free
4: something is going on with Android on your phone.
I would talk to Tmobile again and ask for a new sim or go in the store and see if the sim you have will work in one of their phones. If it does then you know its
something with your phone. I would kind of start over just to clear up any problems. Start with making a back up of anything you dont want lost, including your
sd card. Then repartition your phone/sd to what the ROM you want to use needs. Reinstall MAGLDR and cwm and finally the ROM you want to use. See if that
helps at all. If i had to take a guess it could be something as simple as the simcard is messed up but without having them try it in another phone or you trying
it in another phone you wont know for sure. I know it seems like a lot but reinstalling this stuff should clear up if its your phone or your sim thats messing up.
Before you blame Android, flash your phone with stock WM 6.5 rom. If you still can't make calls or get any data, take the phone to a T-Mobile store and have them figure it out.

[Q] MOD's - please delete thread

I've sorted the problem and seeing as no one has replied I thought you may a well remove the post.
I'm running my HD2 on a NAND NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.8 ROM. Apart from a couple of minor clitches, a;;'s been fine. One thing I've not tried was using a different sim card until last night. I needed to activate a PAYG Orange sim so swapped it over but nothing....I tried my Tesco Mobile sim and it was fine then tried another working sim (3) and that wasn't recognized either. My old sim's back in and working for the mo but I'm due to receive a new one and really don't want to be without a working phone - I'd like to try and suss this before the sim arrives if poss.
I've done a couple of searches for answers to this problem and the only issues I see are people who's phones don't recognize their sims after flashing or sometimes after hard resets but nothing mentioning problems with different sim's not being recognized after swapping.
Any suggestions as to what's the best course of action?
I unlocked the phone via a code from eBay before moving from Windows 6.5 to my new ROM - could that be something to do with it?
