magldr doesnt recognize my SD card - HD2 General

Hello there,
I have a HD2 with NAND Android up and running over MAGLDR.
I've noticed that Ubuntu can now be booted over MAGLDR and I have decided to give it a shoot, since it's easy enough to try.
I have done everything that has to be done, but the problem is when trying to boot over MAGLDR I get this message:
"k: zimage sd kernel open failed"
I do have the zImage and the initrd.gz in the root, also the linux folder.
I've tried going to Services > Boot options > AD SD to choose from where to boot, but it jumps back to main menu.
That's the problem and I'm guessing that MAGLDR doesn't recognize my SD card.
Btw, it's a Kingston 8gb formatted to FAT32 Primary.
I hope you guys can help a fellow HD2 owner out!

Is your recognising SD Card otherwise, other than MAGLDR?
I have faced a similar problem where neither WM6.5 or WP7 or MAGLDR or CLK detect the SD Card however it is detected by bootloader.. See link below

Hello,
it recognizes the SD card everywhere except in MAGLDR.
In the mean time I found a exact same thread like my problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315808
Basically it tells me that my SD card just doesn't work with MAGLDR.
So, has anyone found a solution that doesn't involve buying a new SD card?

Unfortunately that thread is right, your SD isn't compatible with MAGLDR. I have the same problem with my Kingston 16GB class 4, so it appears to be something to do with Kingston cards. You should have received a Sandisk with your phone, which is enough if you want to use SD builds only to try ROMs out, but there isn't much you can do to sort it out I'm afraid.

Alright,
well that's kinda sad, tho I still thank you both for the info.

I'm having a similar issue with my 32gb Sandisk class 4 card. It used to work fine, but then Magldr stopped seeing the file structure for sd boot. With trial and error I used gparted to recreate a ms-dos partition table. Just now magldr sees the file structure again.

Was it this? If not, then would you be able to explain how you did it, please? I have the same issue so it would help. To be fair, I haven't really tried to resolve it properly yet, so it's probably an obvious solution which I missed.

It doesn't work once again...
Tho what I did to make it work is using "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition":
1.Delete the partition
2.Create Partition: set Primary, set Fat32, set allocation table to 32K
3.Apply
That's basically it, I copied all my files excluding the linux ubuntu I wanted to try over MAGLDR...
Next day I tried to select AD SD dir and it OPENED it up, I was amazed!
I then booted android, selected to copy over usb, copied over Linux(around 3.2GB).
I rebooted back in to MAGLDR, tried to select AD SD dir and the same problem occurred... :silly:
I have no clue what else can be the problem, I tried then deleting the Linux, because it worked without it, and again same problem...
So basically it stopped working after I connected the sd card over usb while on android to copy linux... from that moment I couldn't select AD SD dir any more, just jumps back to main menu.
I would like suggestions if anyone knows what might happen?
Was I lucky to just make AD SD dir working? Or was it the allocation table I mentioned that I changed to 32K?
EDIT:
I've been thinking...
Since my goal is to have an android NAND and a Ubuntu over SD, is that all possible if I switch the bootloader from MAGLDR to CLK?
I've never tried CLK, but I'm sure it boots Android NAND's just fine, but what about Ubuntu over SD? Does it have problems recognizing SD on CLK?

Magldr SD CARD INFO

Hello, was just asking the people who maybe in the know here.
Is magldr having problems with reading some SD Cards but not others?
Don't flame as I've kept track with all the latest info, i know WP7 has problems with reading some cards but not many people have mentioned if they work in magldr in the first place
Just wondering
Sent from my DL Desire Series using XDA App
The reason for this is that I don't want to get another card only to find that an update to magldr ends up fixing the problem, I can continue to use two SD cards for now
Sent from my duel booting beast of a phone
As far as I know, magldr can read all sd cards fine. Some cards don't work with wp7 correctly, but magldr can read them fine. There is a problem with the USB mass storage mode in magldr, though, so it's not recommended to use the usb mass storage in magldr... either use it in android, clockwork mod, or take card out and use card reader to transfer files.
Yes I do that, magldr defo doesn't read my 16gb Kingston SD card though no matter how I format it.
I stick Android on it and try to set the AD directory and it sends me back to the main menu, my 2gb cards don't do this

What is it that you do? Magldr is suppose to go back to main menu after you select the AD directory... or are you saying it doesn't even show your files. Are you maybe booting into wp7 and that is erasing and formatting your whole card? That could cause your android build to be erased.
No it doesn't even allow me to select a directory it just sends me to the main menu on trying to access the card. Magldr won't read the card at all.

[Q] MagLdr Android SD Card Problems

Hello guys.
I have a HTC HD2 running Windows Phone 7 (on MagLdr 1.2).
I want to DualBoot Android AND WPH. Ive watched a tut on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTHRAUHZHlo
I did exactly the same and after that i took this Android DesireHD Built: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881937
It worked fine but android said, that there isnt a sd card in the device. Of course it is, cuz android boots from the sd card. When i remove my sd card, android freezes (of course). I tried to restart and i put the 512 MB data.img in the folder but there was the same problem again..
I tried it with an other card and i pushed the button "mount sd card"
and than it said "u can take out the sd card now" (or something like that)
Plz help me!
I am having the exact same problem. Have you found the problem/solution to it.
thanks.
you both update you magldr that should fix your issues.
so get newest radio, than flsh magldr 1.3
before you update make a complete backup!!
hope you both have the right partition layout on sd card.
(first partition must be fat32 second ext3 or ext4)
hope this helps.
for tut look at forums or pm me!!
Can someone describe the exact steps that are required to mount the SD card when the Android build is being run off the SD card using MAGLDR.

This will not help them at all, MAGLDR just serves as the bootloader for Android not the OS.
Allso you can not remove your SD card will booted into Android if you are using a SD card build it is running of the SD card not NAND.

So basically I cannot mount the SD card, no matter how it is formatted ?
I totally have this same problem. Neither WP7 or Droid will read the 16 GB card I'm using to run Droid. I think I'm using the DesireHD build also, maybe its that? I can probably see if changing it makes a difference.
I have the same problem. First time i installed WP7 and android, everything was working fine. Then i had to reset WP7 because it kept freezing, i followed the same steps again to dual boot with android and it booted fine but SD CARD is not mounted for some reason. I have tried 3 different android builds with same problem. Any help or tutorials?

This happened to me too with two SD cards. What I did was I run the Partition SD Card from AD Recovery. I forgot the partition layout, just find something that works for you. I was surprised that it has successfully created a partition...this erased everything so I needed to re-copy ROM files to SD card via Card Reader on my PC.
When I did it over, It finally worked. Am now running Sensation XL ROM.

[Q] Magldr SD not working on Kingston 16GB Class 4

This isn't a serious issue for me as I'm happy with Typhoon CM7 on NAND, but I would like to know if anyone here owns a Kingston 16GB class 4 and is successfully booting an SD Android build via MAGLDR? I would like to test out different types of ROMs on SD but they don't work on my normal card. Boot Settings > AD SD Dir takes me back to MAGLDR main menu. On the standard Sandisk 2gb all works fine.
Again, I would like to know if anyone does not have this issue, as I have searched and there do appear to be a few people who do, and if they have done anything to solve this.
did you try to format the sd card and retry?

No SD Card detected however .. (please help)

Hi,
(Strange problem - OS does not detect SD Card however Bootloader does and loads ROM from SD Card)
I have a strange problem from this morning. I had WP7 mango installed which was working pretty ok apart from a few restarts if the bottom part of phone got warm/hot, so I kept it in from of AC (This idea usually works with HD2)
This morning, WP7 gave an error saying it can not detect the 16 GIG SD Card, I reformatted SD Card using Nokia phone/FAT32 and re-installed WP7 however it gave a message saying No Storage Card present.
I have also tried installing WM6.5 but that too doesnt not detect SD Card.
On top of above, strange thing is that I have installed 3 different version on WM6.5 stock ROM using SD Card method (pressing VolDn methos while powering phone up to boot load ROM from SD Card) and it works perfectly fine however the OS does not detect SD Card.
Has any body faced this problem and have a solution?
Or does any body know of a solution to this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Ash.

further to add, i have tried 2 sd cards 4gb and 16 gb. WM6.5 says no SD Card present however the WM6.5 and all of software (ROM, Radio, Splash etc) were loaded/installed using LEOIMG.nbh on 16gb SD Card.
I have searched the forum as well as other sites, and have tried re-formatting sd card as well to no luck.
Please help, if you have any idea of whats wrong.

We're all too surprised you managed to flash using a 16gb SD card.,,, normally anything 8gb or larger won't flash nbh files, so your problem is pretty strange.
I lost the shipped 8GB SD card more than year back and since then I am using 16GB SD card with HD2 and it worked perfectly.
Does OS like WP7/WM6.5 uses mount in some way to have card and contents available? If so, can it be mounted using MAGLDR or CWM, since the bootloader which IPL can read the SD Card.
Cheers,
Ash
indeed this is a baffling problem. can't think of conclusive reasons why the tri-color bootloader can see the sd card but OS (WM6.5, WP7, Android) cannot!
i am assuming you have just ONE partition on the sd card...? can you check and tell us the format of the filesystem, i.e. FAT or FAT32...? i think FAT isn't even possible on a 16GB card...it will likely be formatted as FAT32, but lets check to be sure.
Hi ASCIIker,
Many thanks for your response, the SD Card is FAT32 formatted. I have tried both 4gb and 16gb cards but WM6.5 says No Card found.
See screen shots attached. I have also attached screen shot of version showing Stock ROM flashed earlier today using SD Card.
I am not too sure, could it be some thing like mounting of SD Card under these OS's or under SPL which is not able to mount these SD Cards,
The problem started when phone was running WP7 Mango 8107 but it used to crash if it got hot and re-boot on its own, may e one of those automatic re-boots, the OS unmounted Sd card. When I looked at it in the morning, it was showing an error message of no storage card present and the options available were emergency call and shut down. I tried re-booting it 1-2 times and it still showed same message and then I tried loading WM6.5 from SD Card using LEOIMG.nbh which worked and left me confused.
I have also tried USB Mass Storage option of MAGLDR 1.13 however that doesn't work either.
I have never used CLk but I can try that if there is a way to access SD Card using USB with it.
Any suggestions for reviving it back are welcome.
Cheers,
Ash

It is worth a shot but i suspect you it still will not detect the SD card. Just click on the HD2 guide in my sig and scroll down to post #3 and look for the section "Updated version of clk with CWM built in" and click on the link that takes you to the download of that version. Then the bottom of post #1 and read the section "Flashing cLK via SD card". This will have clk with Clockwork Mod installed on your device. Then boot your device and hold down the home button at the same time, this will boot you into CWM and theb select "Mounts and storage" then select"mount USB storage". If you do not see the contents of your SD card on your computer then it is not working. Make sure to try "install zip from sdcard" as well. Just see if it reads the SD card that way.
Also I take it from your posts that you have tried otion #4 USB Mass storage in MAGLDR. So like I said I doubt CWM will see it in mass storage either.
Seeing as WP7 uses the SD card for the internal memory and is constantly using the SD card reader on the device at high speeds. It may just be a case of the SD card reader not being operable with the OS anymore. I mean it has to work at a certain speed level I think for the OS to be able to use it, and maybe the bootloader does not require that same speed. Or it may just be a case of the reader not being able to mount the SD card as read and write both still so it just will not mount it. Like I said these are just shots in the dark. But if it is a problem with it mounting in either read or write it could cause this problem I beleive.
Hi T-Macgnolia, thank you for this detailed reply. I was able to install CLK using SD Card method however it does not recognize SD Card nor does it mount it. It shows an error message - see attached screen shot.
I was wondering if a faster SD Card like Class 6 8 GB would make any difference to current state.

Ash

if you're getting the same behaviour with all your cards, then its likely to be a problem with the phone, and messing with this class of that sized card is probably a dead end. (thats not to say you shouldnt try if you have cards available, of course!)
To my mind its gotta be one of two things
1 - some problem with the sd controller, that is allowing low level access to the card, so flashing works, but not allowing the higher level drivers full speed access to the card, in much the same way that a PC accesses the hard disk much faster during a normal boot than it does with a 'safe mode' boot.
2 - a virus/glitch/witchcraft/wp7/other has corrupted all your sd cards in some fashion.
Just guesses, of course.
Good luck.

I agree with Samsamuel completely, it seemsit is something wrong with the SD card reader/controller that is not letting it read the SD card at a higher speed. Or something really strange and funky has happened to all of your SD cards. But I feel it is the first thing and not the later. If you want to try another SD card, as odd as it sounds, I suggest you try a lower class SD card like a class 2 if you can find on. But then again you may already have one and already tried it I do not know. One thing for sure it seems like a hardware issue and not a software or faulty SD card issue.
I had this exact same problem, in the end I ended up going back to original leo Winmo 6.5, then starting over with HSPL - Magldr - CWM - Android (though I guess WP7 will work too).
I don't know what caused the problem, I just put all these anomalies down to the bad nand blocks on my device.
I'll also note that mass storage in Magldr has never worked for me and still doesn't, the drive mounts but crashes on transfer of any files, but within CWM and Android it works now.
If you have exhausted all other options and have not already tried this then it maybe worth a shot. Good luck.
Thanks michael-jb,
I have tried all these options. I have tried installing different WP7 again though, which I will do tomorrow or day after.

Ash

[Q] How to set SD BOOT FOLDER TO NATIVE SD

Hi,
Very silly question, but dont know the answer, please help!
Recently installed Tytung's Jelly Bean rom ad and at the end of installation tells me the aroma installer

I chose the sd-ext installation during setup so this step is essential.
Tried option 10 in CWM but don't know which directory to select.
I also have ext4 2Gb and fat32 partition on SD card.
Thank you for your help

Choose option 10, then 1, then 3 - a list of all the directories on your card appears, choose nativesd. Then set your boot preference to android sd.

When I select option 3 and see all the directories there is no nativesd folder therefore I can't select it.
Any idea?
usually when you flash a NativeSD to EXT4 partition it will create a Folder in SD called "Native Folder", try the link below it might help
Sorry to hijack but the problem I have is that nativesd folder has been created, but when I attempt to set the directory in magldr it just blinks back to the first menu. I've read that this can be due to the type of sd card, but I've tried two different ones with the same result.
I partitioned the card on my sensation, using 4ext, the fat32 and ext4 partitions are primary and according to the instructions, but still no success - any ideas?
how about trying to format the card via PC?
give the link below a try it might help
Formatting on the pc got an unnamed brand 2 gb and very slow sd card to work, magldr recognised the folder structure and I was able to set the boot directory - but the ROM runs very slowly, as I would expect.
I next tried a 16gb x6 card, Kingston brand in exactly the same way but magldr still refuses to view the folders - is there a problem with Kingston cards?

It's at the AD SD Dir - NATIVESD stage where magldr simply jumps back to the main menu, I don't even get to see the folders on the card so can't choose the boot location.
On a non-brand 2gb card it works okay, but a Kingston brand gives this problem.

Try to install new CWM recovery
I have no idea if this problem is solved in the meantime, but when I try to select boot folder same thing happens. It's only with one of my SD Cards (Samsung 8GB 4).
The problem occurs after starting the phone or after rebooting it. Magldr does not find the SD Card and therefore can not select a directory. When in Magldr the SD Card is released and then pushed back into the slot, everything works fine - until next reboot or start of phone. I repeated this several times and behaving of Magldr everytime was the same. I use Magldr V 1. 13, there ist nothing else installed on the phone (no CWM). With a different SD Card everything works fine. I tried to check this on a different phone, because I thought that maybe the card slot is damaged, but my second HD2 behaved the same way. The problem SD Card made the same kind of problems, other cards worked well....
Hi, I have the same problem, and instructions in this thread doesn't help since I'm using CLK instead of MAGLDR.
How can I do this in CLK?
Felt 100 installations later I would think, there are MicroSD-Cards that simply do not work. There are lot of phenomena I even don't think about describing here. My Conclusio: Don't to use SD-Cards that have issues.
