My Defy also heats up whenever I make a longer call, it's normal (the same thing when I'm using 3G). You also have a higher ambiental temperature there (India, 35+ degrees, right?), so you're more prone to overheating.

Its normal to heat up.Mine rise to 41 deg. sometimes..

I have a 32B G1 with Laszlo's Froyo ROM, I use Sd-ext apps, and it heats up behind the chin. Very hot to the touch, is this normal? I also use swap and have it overclocked to 600mhz.
Should I lower the clocking speed and stop using swap?
Delete me plz

My apologies, I intended to post that on another thread G1 must've screwed up.... and I got a new battery, it has been a whole lot more cooler... or it could just be that the battery door is bigger so I don't feel the heat.

I am new to samsung devices, been a HTC guy... i love my NOTE a lot.. only thing bugging me is the heat!!... is this device supposed to get warm while browsing , downloading and doing some heavy tasks... heat starts near the camera and in some time entire device gets warm.. is this normal??? ... i have not overclocked it... tried different firmwares and kernels, issue persists ... i am confused
No heat here unless i charge it and play an intense 3D game or something at the same time. Does it get really hot?

Yes, it is... I also found out from Angelom (creator of abyss kernel) that default standard voltage from note is a bit on the high side.
Since you have tried different kernels, i assume you are rooted. And if yes, you can use setcpu from the market and tweaked the voltage down . That was advised by user Angelom and Robertberma and until now, i don't have anymore heating problem
@ LordManhattan , Not hot but Warm.. when you leave the device in sleep and touch it you can see how cold/normal it is, and once you start using it slowly the heat will spread and yes 3d intense games make it worsen, watching flash videos through browser and stuffs like that... surprised it overheats only when you charge and play.. for me it heats up when i am not charging also..
@ bluelavender.. can you gimme a screenshot of your setup.. i do have setcpu.. but don't want to mangle with voltages without knowing much... and currently i have 2.6 angelom kernel and rocketrom v13
Haha, don't worry, it's perfectly normal.
Reasons for the heat is due to the Amoled screen. When being used for long periods it tends to get toasty...
Expecially when gaming or web browsing it gets hot...
My old HTC would burn me it got that hot (no joke

I can't believe how much misinformation there is on this forum!
It's nothing to do with the AMOLED screen, it's the SoC. The CPU, by default, uses extraordinarily high voltages for 1.2 and 1.4ghz which can easily be toned down by 100mv and this makes a huge difference. Download Tegrak OC (on a stock kernel) or SetCPU on a custom kernel to change these settings.
Mine doesnt even go warm unless I charge and play.. this is probably the same issue with the S2 in where some units run a lot cooler than others. Just like desktop processors.

Of course it's down to the screen. As you mentioned it's also down to the cpu but screens cause heat, any screen does.
Every screen/monitor I've owned at home give out heat...
Do a simple test, play Angry Birds or any other game for a few minutes.
Then put the screen over your cheek and feel the HEAT coming from the screen.
I was on stock KKA for few days and my SGN did get hot even when doing simple task. Temperature is so much better now with stock KL7.

In my old appartment i had a iron stove with a huge stone on top. whenever i used the stove, the stone got hot!! so that must mean that the stone was the source of the heat!!
Ehm, no. It is not the screen that is the source. It is the CPU. You can just as easily heat the device with the screen off, if you press the CPU to the limit. Of course the screen gets hot, but its not the source.
Wow! Did you live in Africa to have a stove like that? Otherwise, I agree: of course it's the CPU and GPU causing the heat! It's quite obvious.

No, in norway! Used it for warming, as it tends to get cold up here in the winter!
Now back to topic
Hi guys.
I don't want to open new thread for this, so I would like to ask you here.
I also recognized the heating problem on my Samsung Galaxy Note. And I don't have to play hard games etc, I can just surf on the web and do simple stuff on it to get hot (it feels hot for me) and also starts to smell a bit like heating electronics and plastic.
I can't remember, but I think that when I got my Note, when it was stock I didn't recognize that heating issue. First ROM that I put on was Darky ROM 3.3 and it works nice (no heating). After Darky ROM I flashed ICS Stunner and there those heating issues starts, as far as I remember. Then I went back on Stock 2.3.6. and now I'm on Stock 4.0.3 Open Germany ROM. The phone also gets hot on Stock ROMs now...
Hope there is any option to fix that problem, because it started to scary and worry me.
Thanks all for any help and answer!
after rooting and using different firmwares does cause the phone to go a little warm. you need to cut the power a lil bit. i myself tried various different rom and it bothered me with the heat issue. so i reverted back to stock. but since there are new builds coming every other day you can keep trying different build to the one that suits you.

So this means that I'm destroying my device with every new flash?
Isn't that cutting of power bad for the phone?
Hi folks,
my galaxy note really heats up when I streaming video over cellular network. The screen and the back portion if the phone becomes really hot.
is anybody is facing same issues?

are your phone while doing so, that can cause overheating
My note has some overheating issues as well. It can get quite warm over the camera (where I assume the processor lies), but I haven't been too worried about it. I attribute this to the extremely thin piece of plastic, AKA the back cover.

The more I use it the more I feel the material was chosen on purpose, to keep the device slim (of course) but because its so damn thin it dissipates heat much better.
p.s. Also to note the spot directly opposite the "patch-below-the-camera-where-it-gets-hot" on the screen also gets hot.
I thought it was thw custom rom/kernel i was running that caused this issue.
now i am back to full stock but its the same. gets hot around the camera area.

i had the same problem before, because of AbyssNote kernel. Changed to Franco kernel, all good now!
In general samsung phones like the s2 and note tend to heat up quicker due to their dual cores and relatively slimmer profile.
i do not really have this problem though.. or i have not used my note long enough?
after how long you feel the heat?

I have tried just about every kernel/ROM combination and have yet to find one that reduces the heat around the camera area (and on the corresponding screen side as noted earlier)
HD games send it up around 48C (it's warm here in Brisbane - around 32C so I'm not sure +16 is a worry?) I have to admit the first few times I flashed ROMs and had big temperature issues I thought it was me. Since then I always flash then leave the screen off and charge to 100%. Temperature is always good after that.
Hey guys - we have a "phone" that is really a dual-core mini -laptop ! It is incredibly versatile, and now that I am used to it heating up after some CPU intensive tasks, I am able to feel more comfortable with the heat from the "Beast"! It always cools down after the screen is off for a while.

Here in Malaysia, It's quite hot.
The coolest I can get is 30C - 33C.
If I'm surfing the web with multiples tab (using Boat) or tethering, it can go up to 51C.
Is it normal guys?
(guys from Malaysia - how hot did you get?
when surfing with 3g on...like 38-40....
when idling coolest i get 28-31...
if on 3d game..about 40-45...
but it get cool pretty quick..no big deal...
for me..i keep switching kernel and see whats the best..my combo CR+abyss kernel 4.2...
p/s-me also from malaysia
i've owned many android phones and samsung cpu's (exynous and previous gen) tend to run warmer then their competitors (snapdragon cpus, tegra).
my note gets a little warm when gaming and hot on certain kernels. my note is one of the few Notes that can not handle an overclock past 1.4 so it gets warm pretty quickly but only when doing tasks on the phone which put a damper on the system resources, e.g. heavy gaming.

I'm using LB1 deodexed with speedmod k1-5, temperature usually at 25degC in aircon room and around 27degC outside. It gets heat up either when using high CPU usage apps or accessing wireless network. Tried franco #6 but it is roughly the same.
Have faced some issues when using the note as wifi hotspot. Maximum temp reached is 50degrees & the phone is in good hot state!
It is best to stick to stable rom/kernel combinations.
Am using Cassies V8 with CF-LA6 kernel.
Have been using following combinations
RR V22 - abyss stock / franco v2
LB1 deodexed - cf kernel / franco v2.
Many have the opinion that franco V2 is the most stable.
Also, since speedmod development is currently on hold, the best seems to be the base version.
I'm facing some sluggish performance of my phone, I've not rooted it yet.
the problem is that when I'm playing TEMPLE RUN 2 it can not handle it while I've other phone XPERIA TIPO which have only 800MHz of Processor and still I can run play it...........
anyone out there who haven't rooted Defy+ plz answer me.....IS THAT SORT OF ISSUE YOU ARE ALSO FACING??
ALSO
anyone tell me the solution for this

Yup, change to low. The official rom has only 350 mb usable RAM, while most custom roms have 450+. I have seen the bad performance on the official unrooted defy+.

Install Zack's kernel. Set CPU to darkness, under-clock big cores to 1.7, gpu 510 or 450. Sorry meant to quote OP.
