Does your G1 burn up on the chin? - G1 General

I have a 32B G1 with Laszlo's Froyo ROM, I use Sd-ext apps, and it heats up behind the chin. Very hot to the touch, is this normal? I also use swap and have it overclocked to 600mhz.
Should I lower the clocking speed and stop using swap?

Delete me plz

My apologies, I intended to post that on another thread G1 must've screwed up.... and I got a new battery, it has been a whole lot more cooler... or it could just be that the battery door is bigger so I don't feel the heat.

How can i run my Phone STABLE at 1.26 GHZ using SetCPU or some other program?

So, I can only run my phone at a MAX 1.3 GHZ without it crashing..
How can I run it at 1.26 without it crashing?
I am running Kings Kernel #11CFS
with Virus Sense Rom RC3
Is there some setting I need to chang? or use a different kernel..
why would you want too ? i would imagine that would kill the battery and make the phone very warm ?
Not all CPU's are created equal. If yours is crashing a lot at that frequency, chances are that yours will almost never run stable.
you could try using conservative scaling but it still probably wont be stable. most evo's cannot handle it.
Heat is your enemy. I suggest you try my hardware mod to really crank up the freq.
Overclocking
I just rooted my phone and I downloaded setcpu and I want to overclock it, but the max that i get is 998. And was wondering how can i get it at 1.267GHz. Im new to the android. Can someone please help.
The stock kernel does not allow over clocking, you'll have to try out a kernel from the development section, I recommend the newest Kingz.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!

Download a kernel that supports OC.
I tinkered around with OC'ing a few months ago I could never get it over 10xx without crashing. I just learned to live without setcpu.
I agree with voodoo there's really no benefit, unless you like pulling the battery. I didn't notice any better performance or speed while overclocking.

Mine is running very stable at 1.26Ghz and great battery life. Running BakedSnack 1.8 along with kernel #6. I'm using Overclock Widget instead of SetCpu as SetCpu was causing lagging response on my EVO.
I dont need 1.26 GHZ
I just wanted to Know why my phone wasnt running stable at 1.26 even thoug it said it was capable of doing it..

HTC EVO4G A.K.A. Usain Bolt

I totally agree that heat is the undesired side effect of the overclocking of the Evo. I had been running mine at 1.152MHz and the noticed a couple of different colored spots on the screen especially during boot up with the bright white splash screen. This was caused by the excess heat from the CPU. I had my screen replaced due to dust under the glass and it is perfect, so no more overclocking for me.

New owner of a Wildfire with a few questions.

Hey all, I bought a Wildfire for my girlfriend this morning, I should be receiving it in the next couple of days. I had dropped a post in the WildPuzzleROM thread as I am liking the look of it, however I got no reply. So it seems I'll have to clutter the place up with another thread. Here is my original post:
Kalavere said:
Hey folks, I am considering getting a Wildfire for the girlfriend, she's sick of her pathetic Samsung something or other. This ROM is just what I am looking for, close to stock Sense with a decent kernel. However I was a little concerned about the CPU and it's lack of power, so with that in mind I have a couple of questions regarding it.
Is the CPU underclocked when used with the stock kernel, and how does it fair with the 768mhz overclock? How does it affect batterylife as well? I get a good day out of my OC'd Desire, I don't want to leave her short of juice.
I really like the look of the phone, I'm sure she'd love it, but I don't want her with an underpowered device (Not that she'd care, but it's just another device for me to tinker with. ) so I figured I'd as you fine lot first and see if it was a little firecracker when rooted with Froyo.

So as you can see I am curious about the battery life when using a 50% overclock, and wether or not the CPU is underclocked by default with the stock kernel. I don't want to burn out the her CPU just so she can get a few more smooth frame rates.
Any light you guys can shed on my questions would be greatly appreciated.
The overclock is on demand , i get about 12 - 18 hours with it set at 254 mhz - 768 mhz
Hope this helps

What is the Max Overclock?

Hey guys whats the max overclock that the Aria can be set to? I had CM6 on mine and had the overclock widget from the market and the max that the sliders went to was 600... But I have Liberty FR008 on it now and i still have the overclock widget but the max that the sliders goes to now is 864... I tried overclocking to 864 but it froze and something went wrong so i had to flash a backup i made. My overclock options right now are 245, 400, 480, 600, 768, 787, 806, 825, 844, & 864... Has anyone tried to over clock the Aria past 600? and did you have any problems with it? Thanks for any help.

I dont think the cm6 kernal allows for over clocking. I have the latest liberated rom and overclocked to 806 which is the recomended max setting by the dev.

The CM 6.1 kernel most certainly does support over-clocking. The CM 6.1 kernel was used as the basis for the Liberated FR008 kernel.
Maybe I was thinking about 6.0. Whatever one I had, I could only over clock to 600.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
6.0 didn't allow overclocking, 6.1.1 does though. I overclock my Aria to 806mHz and underclock it to the lowest setting when the phone's screen is off so I don't tire out the processor. 806mHz is really good, it puts the phone at the level of the G2 or the Shift 4G...and because I usually run Edge w/3G when downloading, WiFi if available, my battery is really good. Probably about 14 hours of normal (good) usage.
I wouldn't overclock it higher, you risk burning the processor out.
I'm OCd to 825 on-demand and the phone runs very nicely. 245 when screen off
825 is not recommended I don't think. 806 seems to be the sweet spot.

Suit yourself. Just saying 806 is the sweet spot for most people around here. I've gotten force closes and reboots at 825. We don't need your attitude
Then it seems like your particular phone can't handle 825. I suggest people try it on both. every phone is different. Just don't be stupid about it. When using the phone as a gps, under clock it. under clock when screen off. and over clock on demand and I'm fine on 825. never seen any issue.
"Suit yourself." I think that was the point of his post. His phone and usage of it OCd at 825 is good for him. He was just stating an answer to the OP. No reason to go around telling him he's wrong..
Anyways, not trying to start a OC war... because that would be ridiculous (-ly funny I might add).
As for myself, when I did OC my processor, 825 didn't effect my phone's performance, but it did make it extremely hot after a bit of use. So it's up to your phone and how you want to handle your phone. I don't really need the OC anymore though; I just stick with 600 (;

Downsides are less battery life (may be a lot or not) and not going as fast as it would be if you were OCd. It may also heat up more.

Overclocking is not necessary at all. We just recently became able to overclock. If you are satisfied with the speed/fluidity of your phone, then there is no need to overclock. The downsides would be less battery life (cpu running faster), and if you push your phone too hard (overclock stupidly), you run the risk of burning out your cpu. your phone should not be getting hot.

It's not necessary. It's pretty damn cool to make the little Aria have a processor as fast as the one in the G2 though.

Is Overclocking even needed?

This phone screams at 1.5ghz, why do people feel the need to overclock?
Overclocking in the long run can damage your phone; is this CPU capable of it?
Also, the technology in this should be capable of running everything underclocked, don't you think?
I had a sensation before and had to overclock that to make it usable. This phone requires no such thing. I would underclock this to increase battery life because I know it's still going to be just as smooth!
So there are my thoughts, sorry about the disorganized manner by which I worded and placed them. Discuss

Agree, OC is not a Mod I need with this fast bad boy!
Even with overclocking on my SIII and Galaxy nexus it still wasn't even close to as smooth as this N4 is without any mods at all. Overclocking is not necessary for this beast. The only reason I would flash a new kernel would be to possibly fix the on screen coloring to be less washed out but even that doesn't bother me.

Could try this if you're rooted. I'm not, so can't test with stock kernel:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nexus4displaycontrol
Undervolted (-100mv) and underclocked to 1.026Ghz, still runs smooth as ever, so my answer would be "No."
And after reading about people getting the red LED of death, I'm not keen to OC even if it was needed. I did so on my GNexus but the CPU in that was terrible IMO.
stock kernel is feel warm when use for awhile, so im not even bother to oc, not trying to ruin this beautiful baby
Simple answer, no. Unless you are a tinkerer or live in a cold weather climate and want a really hot hand warmer
Shouldnt overclocking make it slower? The phone throttles itself pretty hard at the slightest heat increase. If the phone was underclocked it would perform better in benchmarks because it wouldnt get throttled.
Besides I never understood the point of overclocking top end things that far exceed the requirements of current applications. Its not like there are any apps that run too slow. I only overclock my computer after it becomes too slow to handle modern tasks.
Let's overclock to 2.5ghz for the hell of it. We need to own the benchmarks.

I had a sensation too, and when that was first released there were threads asking why people felt the need to overclock that.
The dilemma is that clock speed has very small impact on battery compared to the screen, and the wake lock issue that sucks power in your pocket does not help either. so more clock speed appears to contribute very little to total battery usage.

I think I'm not going to do it until after I've bought a pair of asbestos gloves.
I noticed a lot of overheating when I had my device running on stock 1.7Ghz or higher. Really annoying that it would stop charging due to the battery overheating while in the car dock.
I have actually underclocked my device to 1.3Ghz and maintained much better battery life, with no noticeable slowdowns during usage.
This is old news if you've been following the ElementalX thread.
There's a bottleneck somewhere that prevents 2.1Ghz from being usable, plus it's probably pushing it too much.
Plus the fact it's not really needed.
Great.. now I can run my already blazing fast One even faster and get better benchmark scores! Because we all know that's what really matters.
In all seriousness there really is no need to oc devices of today. Now if you're running an old phone with slow cpu I can see the need.. but the only thing ocing is really good for is benchmarks and an external heater.

Gpu needs overclocking and not the cpu.
Some games could run better, but HTC should bring this step with 4.2.2 already.
