So when the Play wasn't on the website, it hadn't been updated, and was a typo, and now it is on the site as an upgrade, they say the site has still not been updated...those CS reps are so full of ****.

woooow please let this happen!

Hope this is true, waiting for an official announce.

Hayley: Hi Craig, thank you for contacting Sony Xperia UK Chat Support. My name is Hayley, please could I take your full name and email address?
Craig: My Name is Craig White, and my email address is *hidden*
Hayley: Thank you, how can I help you today?
Craig: Welll, While browsing XDA Developers Xperia Play Forums I had noticed that a thread stated that the Xperia Play was back on the 4.0 update page, And I'm puzzled as we were given the news that the Xperia Play update compromised the devices usability (I had used and still use the beta, I can play games flawlessly so I don't believe the excuse), But my question is, is this a simple typo or someone having a laugh in your offices?
Hayley: The phone won;t be getting the 4.0 update, this has been confirmed on our product blog here:
The agent is sending you to http://blogs.sonymobile.com/product...ich-rollout-for-xperia-smartphones/#more-5307.
Craig: I saw that.... but somehow the Xperia Play has turned up on http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/software/upgrade-to-android-4/
Craig: And to give you my honest opinion the reason we are not getting it is because its a rival to another Sony Product, The Xperia Play is capable of Ice Cream Sandwich, and it has very similar Processing power to the xperia Arc, which will be getting it.
Craig: But thats my opinion, if the Play had failed the verification process of getting it then I kind of understand as this device is a gaming deice
Hayley: It isn't because it is a rival - we have no other handsets like the Play so it would make no sense for us to withold it. It simply doesn't work well enough to release.
Craig: I figured it was a bit of a rival to the PSP, No match for the Vita (That is an awesome portable gaming device) but my question is why is the Xperia Play listed on http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/software/upgrade-to-android-4/
Craig: If you don't have the answer than thanks for taking the time to answer my question, I'm just hoping sony has given in to us
Hayley: The website will be an error I'm afraid, as the release I gave you above was published on Thursday this is the most up to date information.
Craig: There goes my faith in Sony, Thanks again, One more question Why are devices such as the Active getting the update, I believe the Xperia Play is a more capable device
Hayley: It is to do with how we can develop for the phones. If the phone is stable enough to be released a 4.0 update then it will be. The reason for the play is likely to be because the games use so much memory, so the gaming quality aspect of the phone would be decreased. Since this is a main selling point of the phone it wouldn;t be sensible to release it.
Craig: What about the latest sources? Is there any chance Sony would release them for us
Craig: So we won't feel completely abandoned, And will be still receive updates?
Craig: for Gingerbread
Hayley: There should be more updates, just not to the Android version.
Craig: Do you have any idea about the sources being released?
Hayley: I don't, no. Any new software will be available from our websites.
Craig: Okay, Thank you for your time, I appreciate it, But hey we always have Custom ROMS Thanks again
Looks like we will still get updates, And it looks doubtful about the sources being released

Sony, you are genius!!
Sony makes everyone forgive the incompatibility of ics on play in this way.
Even you encounter some issues, you should still thank Sony, not complain to Sony.

Its gone now, fu.c/k you sony lol. (Infraction?)

I don't see the Play listed there...

haha they just forgot to update their webpage and remove the name

Let me summarize.
Sony: All 2011 Xperia phones will be updated to ICS,
Sony: We have released an awesome Beta for XPlay ICS.
Sony: Update postponed to early June.
Sony: XPlay won't get the update. Too bad.
Sony: Let's list XPlay for the ICS update a few hours and then delete it so people will get even more mad. *trollface*

Ok now, from what I've read in the conversations above, some operators said XPlay will receive some updates in the future (probably big updates with many modifications so it will make up for not receiving ICS).
If they fail to release big updates for XPlay with many changes, they will lose a lot of their customers, that meaning almost everything they did so far (advertisements, partnerships and so on) will be in vain.
It's just like a game, take the wrong step and you lose.

Its not something I'm really bothered about but why not try getting in contact with the head of Sony Mobile?
Its some guy called Van Schie
Haven't a clue about his contact details though

Not gonna happen...

Marc Loscombe: Thank you Do they deal with all Sony Mobile development?
Stephanie: Yes
Marc Loscombe: Thank you very much Stephanie. Have a good day

Xperia ARC Software Upgrade ???

Hi Guys ..
First of All Thank U to Everyone for your support to this Forum.
Its the Best on the Net.
Today i had gone to purchase the Xperia ARC at Sony's Authorized dealer here
in Gujarat, India.
To my utter surprise and astonishment the Dealer told me that Xperia ARC was unavailable for Sale as the Company is doing some Software
Upgrade(Tinkering) ???
As far as this Reliable Forum goes ... And upon my Extensive Googling ...
I couldn't find an answer for this type of Shortage Issue !
As far as my knowledge goes there is No such thing but....
Is it True .. that there is some OS tinkering is going on ?
Or that there actually is a Shortage of Hardware Units somewhere ?
Anyways ... he is to call me in the Next 3 days.

Could be correct, I've read an article about Blackberry having the same problem in India (and some other countries).
However, there is definitively hardware unit shortage as well. (Probably due to the earthquake in Japan, at least that's the official reason they delayed Xperia Neo.) Here in Germany, e.g., you can only buy one colour and it's sold out in many shops. Unfortunately, this also keeps the prices high.
Hmm ... I think its the Hardware Supply Issues based on the Report from Germany.. although in India color is not the issue.
Also Blackberry problem is totally different from ARC
Hope I get it ASAP. Can't wait No more.
when I went to get the Arc none of the stores in Coventry (UK) had it....carphonwarehouse told me it wud come by mid-may...o2 actually said that there was some software issues with the Arc and then later they said tht it was for the Play...finally I got it online..

Happy i got it as soon as i did, cause sounds like its almost impossible to get now!
SE have confirmed that there is a hardware shortage due to the problems in japan.. however they have also said that there will be a firmware you're shortly after release, which I believe there will be more information released about tomorrow.

100% True. This is specially we are running v2.3.2 and v2.3.4 is available for N1. I believe Google also going to announce v2.4 shortly and we don't want another delay of the OS.
Hope SE learn from the X10's mistakes.
Facebook integration, of all things... wish they would fix some bugs instead. ^^

@cokey77, cant help about your credit rating, but the jumping from 3g to edge was probably due to poor coverage from being inside your house. There was probably nothing wrong at all with the phone you had.

Android 2.3.4 heading to new Xperia handsets in October

The Android 2.3.3 update has already started to roll out in certain regions as reported yesterday. HDBlog.it is reporting that Italian users will see the Android 2.3.3 update in June (our guess would be next week), which is when it is most likely to roll out to other European countries.
Interestingly, they report that the Android 2.3.4 update will hit the new Xperia handsets in October. We can’t verify this for sure, but HDBlog.it says the information comes direct from Sony Ericsson Italy. Android 2.3.4 will introduce video chat in Google Talk as well as Google Maps 5.1 with 3D, Voice Search 2.1.1 with Voice Actions and personalized voice search, and the latest version of Google Books.

What does 2.3.4 offer new?
Visio in gtalk...
But we don't have face camera on Arc
Can't we already upgrade those Google apps? I'm looking forward to improvements in the OS itself. Any?
Mmm,i dont need facebook issues, but really need less camera compression..
good news indeed
Hope they sort out the wifi issues.
This is just a rumour. Nothing official until we hear it from SE.
IMO there's not much in 2.3.4 worth getting excited over on top of 2.3.3, we dont have a front facing camera, and we can already get the latest versions of google apps on the market.
More interesting would be any performance improvements, bugfixes and enhancements that also get incorporated into the new firmware.
first of all let countries such as INDIA get the 2.3.3 update and then maybe we can think about 2.3.4. its really frustrating to know that we are just left like that when ohter countries are getting it and not us.
This is just my opinion
Waiting for 2.3.4 even Arc no face camera i want to try vision on Gtalk

A friend told me that Desire HD got 2.3.3 before the Arc... couldn't find a date anywhere, though. Not that it really matters, but has anyone more information on this?
Yes it did.. But arc got 2.3 before everything else (apart from nexus s)..
Sent from The arc using XDA premium..
I see, did mix up 2.3.3 and 2.3 then. Thanks. ^^
It brings support for dual core processors, but that's hardly of much use to the Arc.
Look forward to it
2.3.4 offers classic videocall?
I just want the wifi bug fixed.

Want Ice Cream Sandwich? Get it on your 2011 Xperia™ smartphone from mid-April

During Mobile World Congress I was lucky enough to taste an actual Ice Cream Sandwich (or two) at the Google booth, and you’ll all be able to experience this sweet software treat on our 2011 Xperia smartphones, starting with the first models from mid-April.
Our developers have been hard-at-work to ensure we’re on track and the highest standards are met to deliver you the best possible user experience on Xperia 2011 smartphones with the upgrade to Android 4.0 platform release.
The first Xperia models to receive the upgrade will be Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray. For these first models, the rollout will start mid-April and continue over 4-6 weeks.*
Following on, Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will receive their scoop starting from the end of May/early June.*
We’ll get back to you once the rollout begins to keep you in the loop with progress and to tackle any questions you might have – as I said, please don’t worry if your kit (customized software specific to your operator and handset) isn’t immediately accessible; they will be made available as soon as they’re ready to go.
The latest version of Android 4.0 is a very powerful OS, brimming with new features and functionality, but it also requires more resource from your smartphone and this may impact performance in some user scenarios. To ensure it’s suitable, and performs for your individual needs, my friends at Developer World have taken a closer-look at how Ice Cream Sandwich will change your 2011 Xperia smartphone – check it out here.
Because this update is a significant revamp of some of your phone’s features, we want to make sure you take a conscious and informed decision to upgrade, so that you continue to enjoy optimum experiences from your Xperia smartphone.
Therefore, we’ll only be making it available for download via PC Companion and Bridge for Mac (i.e. not over the air via 3G or WiFi), and you also won’t receive any update requests or notifications.
Again, we will get back to you with more information in mid-April when the rollout begins.
Finally, with regards to our all new Sony Xperia S, which will be upgraded to Android 4.0 starting from the later part of the second quarter, we will get back with more detailed information on timing over the next weeks.
Talk soon, Ant.
*The availability and scheduling of this software upgrade and specific models upgradeable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and carrier requirements.

Thought it was worth posting, for the most of us Xperia Play users won't see full ICS until end of May early June? sigh =\
What??? A new date change??? Now end may/early June??? It was end april/early may!!!
Where is this info from?
Oh, and change the title. You are posting this info on the Xpera Play forum, so the date is not mid-april and makes people think the update will come earlier than expected.

Oh thanks, I've been a few days out without internet, that's why I didn't know about this.
This long wait is a bit too much. Now June...
I hate this update method from Android. It should be like Windows. I mean, an unique OS that installs only what it needs, without passing through the hands of another developer (Sony in this case). It's the worst point of Android.
And I repeat to the OP: better change the title of the thread.
i like this, takes it out of verizon's hand (as long as they make a CDMA version that is)

For me the HW acceleration is the biggest deal, the browser is incredibly slick, compared to the old one... the UI has a cleaner look and the fonts are more readable, the mail client is a lot better as well.
I did notice the increased RAM usage right of the bat in the beta version but hopefully they'll have worked around this in the final release.
Looking forward to the release

Just my opinion: I wouldn't jump ship on an OS just because Sony couldn't make it work. I have an XPlay for personal use and a iPhone4 for work. I would gladly go back to my old Eris before making the iPhone my main device. If you're really hurting for something ICS-ish, unlock it and slap on a new ROM.

like x10 series( X10 mini , mini pro ) ... do you remember ?

oh shiiiiit
that is my fault , i should leave sony since they lied to me on X10 series ... **** **** shiiiiit.
oh sorry
Hi guys
last week i've created a thread by named " hey sony , any update... "
most of people replied my post and talked rudely ...
anyway ,
now , i know that my opinion was true , sony is liar. they did again what they did on x10 series to us. they said x10 mini and mini pro can't run 2.1 froyo , but developers ported gingerbreads , also ICS on x10 series .
maybe this is end of time for sony , lie lie lie ...
actually , why should we buy somethings like xperia play 2 with thousands of false promises .
why should we trust Sony promises . Sony is nothing ,do they have powerful engineers ? Sony even can't support its specs ( oh god damn )...
i know that somee of kids want to reply again and say that my words are mere lie, sony is #1 , BLUHBLUHBLUH ...
totally , I just want to say :
without ICS update = no hope on sony anymore , none specs ...
I have similiar feelings like you, cause I had X10 too, and this is deja vu....Completely disappointed, but I know we (Devs) will make better ICS ROMs than Sony, we just need the latest sources. No bad words about Sony - they're good corporation, but I don't have luck with their smartphones, so I think never more Xperia - but other Sony stuff is great . Terrible info about no ICS...
Why leave sony, you have so much in common with them
Sony has been working hard on making an ICS update for the Xperia Play, and after so much testing they saw that it wouldn't give a good experience on this device because the hardware requirements for ICS.
Is this a company you can't trust with? Do you prefer a company that wouldn't even try to port ICS to the device?
Sony allways informed us about what they were doing. A lot months ago they opened a web informing what procedures they have to follow to make an Android update, they answered questions, and they even made an open beta to let users say what they think about the stability of ICS on our device.
Do you prefer a company that doesn't do all these things?
Are you angry because the Xplay won't get ICS? Ok, I'm angry too. But don't say thing like "oh Sony that bad company" because they gave a very good user support.
Be more mature and think what you say.
I might as well save one of my earlier posts into Notepad for these threads....Here we go
"There is no point, at all, in getting angry about this. They rolled out the beta as a way for the community to test and give feedback on what works and what doesnt. It did what a beta is designed to do. Unfortunately for Sony, the gamepad on the Play came back and kicked them right where it hurts. Id rather have a gaming device that works than one that doesnt.
To put it simply: All PS3/Xbox/PC users. Imagine if Sony or Microsoft rolled out a new OS that looked nice BUT......Controllers/Keyboard and Mouse support didnt work. Sure, you have a nice looking OS but the chief reason for buying the machine is gone.
People in here need to calm the hell down. Its not, I repeat, NOT...Sonys fault"
STOP...BLAMING...SONY

not sure yet not due an upgrade till october but going to be doing my research on whatever company has the best out
and then when i get my new phone im probly going to record myself smashing up the xperia play it will help me feel better
Sigh.. after coming from a x10 mini pro this is rather annoying.
And I was recently interested in getting a Xperia Arc S or Xperia S, not that I hate sony now but I'm kinda bitter on them right now that I don't want them to have a penny from me anymore, but who knows if I'll change my mind later. Just hope they reconsider or at least release a more developed beta version.
Just doesn't feel good to be let down once again.

Yeah, I feel with you about leaving the Sony-scene and move on since they aren't that loyal to their customers after all.
But I will still have my Xperia Play as my main device and stick around with it since I still can call with it and I bought it to play and FPse is one of the few emulators I need in ICS and I'm sure the great devs here at XDA will bring some real good ICS-ROMs as I have already seen and tried a couple, like KA13 and ICS++, and AOKP with more

i'm sure that XDA's developers can make ICS better that sony , like what they did on our x10 mini-mini pro ...
sony-mobile allways say that they have expert engineers ... ( shiiit )
so , xda's developers are more expert than sony's engineers ???!!!
plus , they only need dommlord , jjkkyu , bin4ry ... ?
i'm sure that sony is liar . just wait 4 or five mounths , maybe sony wants to make new play-xperia ! ( something like xperia play 2 ) ! and that is reason to leave our xperia play without hard working on update .
on 2010 , they stopped working on X10 series , just because of 2011 series !
just look at apple updates , they support their specs for 3 years ,!unfortunately , now i can understand , why apple owners , allways laugh at us !
