Best modem / carrier / region - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Which modem are you using? Who's your carrier? Where are you?
Let's see if we can work out which is the best modem for your region.
Modems can be found under development, [modems] all radios in one place- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645202
I'm with Telstra in Sydney Australia and still swapping modems to determine what's best.
If we get enough feedback I'll update the OP to reflect most common preferences.
Thanks

I'm in Vancouver with Bell, using LB2. That said, I haven't noticed much difference among modems. I haven't received poor performance from any of them.

I was using the LB2 modem for a while, recently switched to LR1.
No discernible difference, although I am in Melbourne, Australia with Vodafone so that may be why!

i actually reverted from LR1 to LP5 for Indonesia..

LB2 in Australia with telstra, best for me.

I am in US and on ATT MVNO and I just recently tried 6x different modems and honestly I have not seen any difference. After every flash I checked my signal strength and speed tests and they were all about the same. I'm on DXLC1, even though it's supposedly not for my region, because it was the last one I tried and don't care enough to flash another one because they all seemed the same. Just my experience YMMV. Cheers

when installing modems, does it matter what rom/base i'm running?
like are there samsung only modems, or like cm9 only ones.
or do they all work with each other?
never flashed a modem before...
just tryna be safe.
running PA 0.5 btw.

LR1 here with Vodafone Australia, works great with speeds up to 8 mbits and great battery life.

Anyone tested in norway? With netcom?

CM9/10 and their derivatives like PA, asylum etc don't include modems (radios/baseband changes) in their ROMs.
So if you switch to a CM9 based ROM you'll see the baseband (modem) of your last Samsung based ROM.
Switching (flashing) another modem is safe, either via CWMR or mobile Odin. You can even use a GB (e.g. LB1) modem on ICS.

Sorry to disagree but that is not correct. Please try some different modems and speed test to confirm.
I've download twelve modems and found significant difference in ping, upload and download speeds and latest is not best.

Radio for Australia

Hi guys
Just want to know which radio are you guys using. I'm using KD1. Anyone done any testing to see whether this is the best for Australia or a previous version such as kb3.
I know for my x10 there are regional updates for basebands. Is this the case for the nexus S
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I too would like to know more info about radios. I'm currently on kb3 and it seems sufficient. I get GPS lock in 10 seconds so reasonably happy.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Tested with Kb3 and Kd1, both same, not much difference as Vodafone network is still upgrade in progress. I guess, KD1 is mre effective for UK
I'm on optus and just want to check is it my plan / location
My hsdpais pretty much non existant for the last month or 2

Stock rom doesn't show the H sign. Only custom roms do that. Maybe it's a carrier issue?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I think mostly in AUstralia, we get less "H", I not sure why, gotta ask them
Oh I'm using superaosp.. best rom... so that's not because of stock rom that I don't see h
Funny when I first got the planing on now I see h very often

I'm also with vodafail. Using speedtest, I get better download with the new radio KD1 and upload speed was relatively the same in comparison with KB3

New FW showed up last night

Looks like my unlocked GS3 downloaded new FW overnight, installing it now.
Anyone know what it fixes?
I hope it's the audio quality of video recordings.
I'm in CA on AT&T
They wouldn't say. It just says improved stability.
What firmware are you on now ?
If I have assisted you, please press Thanks button.
I got an update as well and I'm on I9300UBLF2 (Not sure what region that is, it's an imported phone)

It all depends exactly where you are, for example at home I get 2-3Mb download, but in York (about 10 miles away and both in Yorkshire) I get 10Mb, on Three, so don't be telling people to check again, there are a lot of things that influence data speed, which makes it extremely hard to get good comparisons.

Derby today 10meg
Leeds today 12meg
Nearish to derby I got a 17meg
Been testing as I saw someone else recommend it for Three. Genuinely impressed with it so far
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
But also please note that it also depends on whether you are on custom rom or stock, aswell as if you are on ICS or JB.
Also depends on which kernel you are running on aswell and even signal strength and even whether your results were taken indoors or outside, living in a ground floor flat or a house.
All of the above factors will show completely different result so please remember this and everyone finds different modems work better for them while others may not.
Hope this helps

Just given XXDLI7 a try, which so far seems to have improved things for me at home where I have a fairly poor signal. Data now seems to be more consistent rather than up and down like a yo-yo.

Was only getting less than 1mb down before Three upgraded the line mast in my area to accommodate the rise of new users. Now I get a steady 10-12mb down and 2mb up. In the evening at peak times I normally see 6mb down. Definitely better than the average 2-3mb my friends get on EE (No 4g of course lol)

NEDLI1 has been very good for me in london on 3uk after testing a few different modems inc. above. 6-7mbps down and 2-2.5mpbs up in london is pretty good knowingly how congested the network is. My S2 barely made up to 5mpbs down and 2-2.5mpbs up on NELP4/NELS1. Hope this helps someone in london but as it goes with saying try it yourself and see which works best as it varies from person to person and location to location and also how many data hoggers are on a particular mast.
In Nottingham, using latest 3 modem (NELK2) I am getting 13,391kbps down and 2,343kbps up

New Baseband ,Radio,Modem?

have to wait for the next OTA that releases. and that doesnt even guarantee a new radio release with it. it may ship the same radio.
They come from Google no one here makes them.
I'm patiently waiting on a new radio as well. Updating the radio on my Galaxy Nexus was the best mod I ever did. Increasing the signal strength made a huge difference in usability in my area.
As others have mentioned, it might be a while. We need to wait for more OTA's to be released and hope that they have updated basebands.

I'm pretty sure that LG makes the radio not Google. As they would follow LG's guideline for baseband format.
Kinda like how Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S radios had Samsung guideline of: XXKF1, etc.
XX representing region (UG,etc)
K representing year
F representing month. etc
# representing release of that month.

I'd like to try some other modems too. The change in modem made my i9000 far better signal wise and even increased download speed.
No one searched for this?
There's a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087227 with the only radios collected so far. Nothing new yet until hopefully 4.2.2.
FWIW, Downgrading to .27 helped myself, and many others, tremendously with both signal strength and data speeds. .33 was terrible for me.
