[Q] Carriear network frequency check? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way for checking the current frequency the phone is using?
Let say I've changed the frequencies with BaseBand Switcher and want to know if it did the job...

"Settings" -> "About??" (Is it named like this? I am using German ROM)
There you can see some informations about Kernel, Model, Android-Version and Baseband-Version.

Thanks but I'm looking for the actual frequencies not the baseband version. Baseband switcher change the frequencies but the BB version remain the same.

FM Radio

Hi,
I just updated my SGS to 2.3.6 using JW4 with cf-root.
I'm wondering how to add another region from the settings? Currently mine is set to Europe and when scanning, it doesn't get any channel.
Hi. You can switch between "USA" and "Europe" in the FM Radio settings. If you're from the USA you'll have to adjust that option.

[Q] CM9 Correct Baseband For India

Hi all, I'm new to this so go easy please!
I am travelling in India and cannot get a data signal, only normal calls/texts.
Can you tell me which baseband I should select from the baseband switcher in advanced settings (Defy Parts)? I don't see an option for India...
I am running Eppy's CM9 13-Jun-12 & CM7 Froyo Kernal.
Thanks in advance.
Select southeast Asia 3.4.3-331. If the settings doesn't persist, then install bbswitcher(you can find the thread in dev section) and use that baseband. Enjoy.

Thanks, tried both, but with no luck, also tried other southeast Asia baseband's and China baseband's without success...
Any other ideas?

Default cee-europe also works actually. Are the settings persistent, did you try installing baseband switcher?
Sent from my MB526 using XDA App
Yes tried the baseband switcher app also. What do you mean by are the settings persistent?
I also tried a full wipe, flash sbf & reinstall CM9 with latest 13-Jun kernel, still same problem...

It depends on your provider. what provider are you using?
Thank you for the replies everyone.
Unfortunately I have tried all of the suggestions and I still can't get the data connection to work.
My provider is T-Mobile UK. Perhaps they are blocking the data connection? I've never had a problem in other countries though...
Than its not your baseband. Contact your provider.
Defy baseband query
Hey folks,
I have changed the baseband selection option to South East Asia 3.4.3-331.
After this I am getting dedicated mobile network without any disruptions.
But unfortunately after this change when I accept any incoming call or make any call then I am not able to talk(The other person is not able to hear me and I am not able to hear another person voice).

[Q] ROM with default latest baseband + LTE support?

Hi,
I couldn't find anything related to this on the forum so here it goes.
I know that google has disabled LTE support in latest baseband release. And one would be able to flash the old baseband to regain LTE support. However there's many steps that one need to do to get it enabled (type in service code, change LTE setting, enter APN etc.), not to mention you also loose some enhancements/bugfixes.
So my question is that, is there any way one can build a custom ROM + modified latest baseband (4.2.2) to have default enabled LTE support directly? (means no service code change, APN change etc. and with all the possible enhancement from the baseband build)
If yes, please direct me to the post or instruction, if not, why not?
Thanks for answering!

You can just use the old baseband and have LTE on any ROM.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, as I stated in my OP, I'm well aware of the ability to use old baseband on the other ROMs to have LTE. However, I'd like to have LTE on latest baseband, and also native LTE support without fiddling with the settings.
I would like to learn how to do it if there's no one already doing it, just need some direction to the right documentation/guides or explain why its not feasible.

I don't believe the baseband software is open source. Since the LTE functionality was removed from the baseband itself, flashing a ROM is not going to restore it to the .44 baseband.

I see, that's what I'm afraid of, so I guess the best one can do is pack a .39 baseband with custom 4.2.2 ROM with default LTE configuration then? So I guess my follow up questions is how much of the LTE operation is controlled by the basedband module?
Can a ROM have LTE as Preferred Network setting?
I think its possible to have default APN configured baked into the ROM?

Defy+ MB526 Modem ??

I have a MB526 phone and am not sure it has the correct firmware on it. Since I got this phone second hand, how can I check that my phone has the correct modem file on it.
Do the MB526 phones have different hardware in them for 850/2100 and different hardware for 900/2100?? Or is there only one hardware version of this phone and it just has different firmware installed?
How do I go about checking this. I think I might have a 900/2100 unit, but would like it to be 850/2100 thus if the hardware is the same, then I should be able to flash the 850 firmware right?

The hardware is the same, you can change the baseband using Defy baseband switcher.
Hmm ok that's good news then. So if I locate the original firmware for the provider I want the phone to work on, it should setup the baseband automatically too right?

Yes, you have to replace bp_nvm_default folder from system/etc of stock to custom ROM.
Oh you got my confused. I don't want to go a custom rom, I just want to flash to the stock provider rom of my choice. And since one provider is 850/2100 and the other is 900/2100 that's why I first posted.
Right now I suspect the phone has a stock or some default rom with 900/2100 as the baseband. I want to flash a stock provider rom that is 850/2100.

Yes, flash whatever ROM, and then copy the folder.
No. Flash the ROM, root it, then use basebandswitcher first to try the listed basebands that have the frequency you're looking for. Chances are there will be one that gives you service.

[Q] How do I change the baseband version on my Galaxy S5?

Hi,
I've just found out that my baseband version is for the Taiwanese market (G900IZTU1BOA1).
How can I change the baseband version to G900IDVU1ANE1?
I need it to be changed, as I otherwise can't use NFC here in Australia (Westpac Bank requires that certain baseband version).
Simple. Just flash a new modem with Odin and voilĂ !
Baseband changed

Thanks.
I'm very very new to the Android world, but I understand that I then have to 'root' the phone, right?
I will be able to work this out, but my question is:
- are there any disadvantages by rooting the phone? Can it become slower? Can I brick it? Will it lose it's warranty?
Sorry about all these questions, but a newbie (who do like to play though, so happy to research further, to find out how to do this).
No. You don't need root access. Just put the phone in download mode, connect it, and flash your favorite modem tarball.
Enjoy

Awesome, thanks.
Will give it a go.
One more question (and it might be a silly one): Why are there different baseband versions? What exactly would be the difference between G900IDVU1ANE1 and G900IZTU1BOA1 ?
Is one of them newer (or better) than the other one?
Will I have to change baseband version again in the future?
Is there a big advantage (apart from being able to use Westpac Tap and Go) in having the G900IDVU1ANE1 baseband on my phone and not the Taiwanese one, since I live in Australia?
And finally, I read stories here and there, which says that your battery life can get worse, if you change baseband. Is this true and would this likely happen, if I change to G900IDVU1ANE1 ?
My phone is a G900I, by the way and I specifically ordered the 'I' version (online and I later found out that it was from Hong Kong), as I knew this was the one you would get in the stores in Australia as well. Now I then figure out that the baseband version still isn't the same...
(I did save $200 though by ordering it online)
Doing know which differences are between two different modem.
And keep in mind that it must be on the correct model, do not cross flash between a F variant to an H one.
Same applies to other variants.
You have been warned
