Wildfire Fall Survival - Wildfire General

I accidentally dropped my Wildfire from about 2 meters of height!!!
While it was falling I was like:

But then, when I saw it lying screen faced down on the floor.... I was terrified, couldn't even look, had a feeling like somebody hit me with a sledge hammer in the back of my head, like somebody was drilling a hole inside my stomach... (all that happened in 2 secs).
And when I finally had the courage to pick it up (I was expecting the worst, broken screen, as it fell onto concrete), I was shocked, but in a good way. No new scratches at all!
Here it is:
Definitely staying with HTC!
<3 Wildfire, soon One S.

Wow. The wildfire is a tough old phone! I've dropped my phone many times, and its survived every time!

even i dropped it few times.....nothing did happen ......htc has a ausum built quality

I dropped mine a couple of months ago on a tiled floor, I didn't realise till I put a white wallpaper on it that some pixels were showing black only and as the weeks progressed the 1 or 2 black pixels started spreading across my screen till I couldn't take it anymore so I purposely dropped it again, the battery popped out and when I powered it up again everything was back to normal.

this phone is good material quality.. 2thumbup for htc wildfire

My wildfire was falling from a half meter on stone and the display was broken
I repared it for a lot of money and nowi think i should buy another phone instead of a new display

Tiles
Tarmac
Stones
Street
Got it flying out of my hands many times.
I fell on the ground while running. Whilst having in custom made sleeve for caring.
It is surprising how fragile it looks yet survives so much

if only Sonim were to build smartphones that you can't even break using a giant heat gun..

it is a good quality phone indeed... i dropped mine in the toilet a couple of months ago, where i had just produced beautiful ****. It was ringing when it fell down and kept ringing while in water. I picked it up straight away, took the battery out, rinsed it all and let it dry for 2 days. It is still working as before!

have a look at this video. It isn't a wildfire, but htc anyway. htc one x used as a hammer....

My Wildfire has survived falling in the bath ....TWICE!!!
Still works with no issues.

Did exactly the same as you; dropped from 2 metres face first onto concrete and turned out exactly the same. Couple days later I noticed that sections of the touchscreen no longer worked. It's all good though, got the successor!

The Truth
The phone tend to slip in hand will survive the crash..
The phone won't slip won't survive the crash at all..
HTC Wildfire has slipping design. I use to miss my wild fire all the time.. One time screen broke but still working with one crack.. now when ever it wall it will remove it casing and battery will be some where phone will be some where case will be some where.. I think that is a crash protecting mechanism

Your thoughts for the HTC Aria

My thoughts for the Aria is that its a great phone because I dropped it many times no problems it might not have flash and can't play NFS Shift but it is a really good phone

Does everything I could want in a phone! Yeah, no flash, no snap dragon, bit is A highly functional yet small phone. I liked the htc sense ui, bit cm7 is more suited for me...

The only thing I can imagine is that you must have dropped it on a pillow. The forum is full of posts on shattered Aria digitizer screens from drops of as little as 18". I have 2 Aria's, one working and a second for backup, and the backup is waiting now for another digitizer to arrive.
Other than that and no Flash, it's a great phone.

I've dropped mine several times on hard surfaces including asphault and the only damage it has is a little nick in the corner of the back cover. I've even dropped it in water, fully emersed and it never even got wet inside except some moisture under the screen that dried up. This little guy is going on 9 months old now Ans never had a single issue. Its a sturdy and very reliable little phone IMO.

the aria is a great phone, especially with cm7 installed on it. its way more powerful than it should be.
Mine survived a toilet drop. But I think the silicone case did alot of the work.

Mine can run nfs shift...? Just not on cm7, that I know of
I've dropped my aria while it was on my lap in the truck and when I opened the door to get out it flew off my lap as I stood up and skidded face down across the road. Not even a scratch thanks to the gel HTC case I have for it
Sent from my HTC Aria using XDA App
It just works well
Coming from a HTC Fuze, I'm glad I did not give up on HTC. The Aria makes up for all of the glitches and freezes I experienced with the Fuze. My Aria simply works reliably, quickly, and without hassle - except for random bluetooth connection issues which may or may not be due to my Motorola earset.
My only beef with it is that the compactness comes at the price of text entry speed. It's still leaps better than T9, but well short of what's possible with a physical keypad, and a notch or two off of even the iPhone. But if I send 5 texts a day, that's heavy use for me, so this is hardly worth my worry.
No trouble after dropping it face down onto concrete with a vinyl/gel cover on it.
Considering it's a $0.01 upgrade (+ AT&T $18 fee) under contract extension at Amazon.com right now, more bang for the buck is hard to find.
This phone is great! only complaint is the size and no physical keyboard >.<
even so its better than the tilt2 i came from
I like the aria. It's fast, compact, and looks pretty.
I chose the aria because of its smaller size. I was coming from a motorola pebble so I didn't want anything gigantic. It even sports the same soft back as the pebble which is comforting.
There are, however, some things that I do not like about the phone. I don't like the antenna being built into the back cover; I feel that over time the contacts might wear out. Additionally, the back cover itself is annoying... It isn't as securely attached as I'd like; the glass around the top of the phone tends to lift up about 1mm from its protective back cover - something I noticed a few days after purchasing the phone. And lastly, I'm regretting buying a phone this small; I'm 6' so my hands are fairly large, it's a little hard to hold a phone this size without dropping it. An evo 4G would fit much better in my hand.
Having said that, I believe without a doubt that the screen will crack if you drop it onto contrete from waste high without a case for it. I have never dropped my phone though...
But I did go through a car accident with it (no case). When everything was all said and done I found my little aria under the brake peddle.. It was in my cup holder before. Not a single scratch on the screen - no idea how that happened.

My first phone to welcome me to the Android world and I said it did a great job, i also got a lot of help from the community here though >.<
I love my aria, only problem is battery life, but I keep it on the charger most of the time so there are no worries. When I turn my data off, it can go 24 hours without a charge without a problem.
I love this phone. It was my first Android and considering I was coming from WM 6.5 it was a huge upgrade. While I like the large screens of other androids I felt they were too bulky and opted for this one. Other than a few shortcomings (slower processor, smaller screen, and no flash mainly) the phone is great.

The Death of my Nexus One

It has been a really slow process, about 24h+ later my beloved Nexus One purchased in early February 2010 has finally come to an end. Picture speaks for itself.

I broke my AMOLED screen while skiing. It is replaceable and a lot cheaper than buying a new phone. You can find new screens on ebay for $70-$80 usually. Make sure you find out whether you have an AMOLED or SLCD so you can get the right screen. Google can help you determine that.

I have an AMOLED screen but i dont wish it to replace. I'm looking for replacement between a Galaxy Nexus or a White Skyrocket for $200. My Nexus One still works. I still use it with the broken screen to call my boyfriend (I'm female), i just memorized how to get into the favorites contacts and call, hehe but just him. It's useless screen is now completely black and non existant.
I was charging it and it suddenly fall down into the floor, as usual. It was not a very hard hit per se, but must be the angle.
Must be slot of that going on my phone usually falls hard with no prob. Two days ago it fell like6 inches screen is now cracked

You should pay more attention to it, especially with water, it kills many electronic devices. And you can still use it by changing a LCD
Try replacing the screen. Hope all other things are fine
Dont give up the NEXUS ONE
Well those screenshots are from a Galaxy Nexus . So its ICS and slightly redundant to ask her to save the N1 You, my friend, have a generous benefactor! You could keep the N1 in a glass cabinet in memoriam of the first Nexus device. Should have a lot of value a couple of decades later!

Heck, she should send me the broken N1. I'll fix it up good as new. Luckily, I'm still using my N1 without any major issues. I'm due for an upgrade sometime next year. HTC Nexus 4 I hope?

She wasn't very accurate with her dropping.
But anyone who uses a phone w/out a case is a fool (IMO).
Just a $300+ accident waiting to happen.
And cases are available sooo slim nowadays.
.. and seriously, you need to be 7ft tall or even taller for the phone to be dropped that high.. LOL
unless you're on a horse or umm levitating.. LOL.. what are the odds? hmm?

Someone should make a video of 'real life events'. You know...having the phone on lap then getting out of the car, etc. Because, in those instances, the phone isn't falling straight down. It's got some angle and slide to it.
(I took my Nexus One and threw it face down onto tiles about 3 feet in front of me...and nothing but the lcd underneath broke.)

I am with you. I have never had a case, but do have a screen guard. Never had a problem yet.
It makes me laugh how the iphone crowd go on about how great looking their phone is and how the glass back looks great. Or when they go on about how the S2, looks like cheap plastic. Yet they cover their phone with a £1.99 cover from ebay, so they never see or feel the phone. And the gel, rubber cover from ebay is cheaper and tackier than the S2 phone.
this is the biggest downside of the phone... i don't care for the minor issues that i read about this phone except for this.. what was samsung thinking? didn't they test a few phones before putting it into production? didn't they test how tough gorilla glass 2 or lack there of before using it on their flagship phone?
fail!
i'm still upgrading to it though.. LOL

Your WORST HD2 accident

ok the thread says it all. so here's mine:
we were at school partying for we finished it, we were all jumping around, hd2 in my pocket.
it was like 5 turns we made. we were done. hd2 was no longer in my pocket.
i looked everywhere but was almost sure someone broke it cz there was like 500 person there.
my friend was looking for who dropped it, gave it to me, battery was still in with the cover ejected.
unlocked and had to reboot wp, but everything worked perfect. now even a single scratch on the screen.
2 weeks later, in an exam, it fell out of my pocket but was all fine.
so what's your worst accident?
Launched mine off of my bike at 80 going to work at 4 am.. Went back after work on my way home and found the main body and some pieces in the center divide, it's in its box in the cupboard currently.. Very sad day

Yeah, touchscreen of death. Took all the pro tools available for me, took all the guts I have. Repaired it, replaced the touchscreen, glued it to the chassis with really badass doble-faced adhesive tape and was just happy that my fellow HD2 is still alive. Now, about 2 or 3 weeks later, the touchscreen won't respond again. And I'm anxious to open it again to attempt to fix it - got the fear that I glued some of the tape to the display.

Dried it out in rice in the airing cupboard.... worked fine for a week then the screen failed...
Gutted... but bought another!

That just makes me cringe.
When I ordered it from sprint they told me it was gonna be 1 to 3 weeks for the phone to get there that's why I didn't order a case sooner but the phone came in within 3 days.
One drop, about 3.5 feet....
Ouch! This phone is very slippery in dry cool weather and if your skin is dry. A little moisture and hand locks on like a magnet. Regardless, I'm looking forward to my case as I cling on to my N6 with a "kung fu grip" until it arrives
I've had mine slip out of my shirt pocket two times on to a hard tile floor. It landed screen down both times. It's in a spigen slim armor case and there was no damage.

One benefit of being backordered is that my case came first.
Thing I love most about following new phones on XDA... Is the people that drop then within the first week. Do you guys have hands made out of butter?
Yikes. I bet quite a few people already have broken nexus 6's. Which would suck so bad.
Mine yesterday slipped out of my shirt pocket and landed on my foot. I was only getting up from my couch and the ground is soft anyway, along with my foot, so nothing at all happened.
Not gonna be putting it in this shirt pocket again. It's too big for the pocket haha

I've never heard of any other phone screen breaking. This is not my fault in any wayl Google made the phone slip out of my hand!". But surprisingly, every one in this thread has acted civil.
