ok the thread says it all. so here's mine:
we were at school partying for we finished it, we were all jumping around, hd2 in my pocket.
it was like 5 turns we made. we were done. hd2 was no longer in my pocket.
i looked everywhere but was almost sure someone broke it cz there was like 500 person there.
my friend was looking for who dropped it, gave it to me, battery was still in with the cover ejected.
unlocked and had to reboot wp, but everything worked perfect. now even a single scratch on the screen.
2 weeks later, in an exam, it fell out of my pocket but was all fine.
so what's your worst accident?
Launched mine off of my bike at 80 going to work at 4 am.. Went back after work on my way home and found the main body and some pieces in the center divide, it's in its box in the cupboard currently.. Very sad day

I must have dropped my hd2 plenty of times but it was fine.
Once when i first got the phone I had it in my back jeans pocket and sat on it. I think it bent the phone and I had the screen problem with Newton Rings (here)
Recently though I had the phone leaning against a skirting board on a concrete floor and it fell over onto the screen and the glass cracked. Oh well, I now have another one

Yeah, touchscreen of death. Took all the pro tools available for me, took all the guts I have. Repaired it, replaced the touchscreen, glued it to the chassis with really badass doble-faced adhesive tape and was just happy that my fellow HD2 is still alive. Now, about 2 or 3 weeks later, the touchscreen won't respond again. And I'm anxious to open it again to attempt to fix it - got the fear that I glued some of the tape to the display.
f**k me, right?
"1E fatal hit" error.....can't run any rom or any recovery...bought another one XD
Mrs Geeba went to work... asked on her way out for me to do some washing.... filled washing machine... added liquid etc... fired up a 40c wash... sat down with a cup of tea... got really annoyed with the clonking sound the washing machine was making and though.."good grief what has the Mrs put in there!!!" - went in the kitchen only to see the HTC logo doing the rounds on the glass front of the washing machine after an almost full 40c wash
Dried it out in rice in the airing cupboard.... worked fine for a week then the screen failed...
Gutted... but bought another!

Today I broke my HD2 screen
Anyone knows if are outside guides to change the screen like hd2 official service guides and any shop that sell "cheap" (compared to official service) hd2 screens?
thanks for all
Sorry for your broken HD2...
May I ask, how did you manage to break it? I'm asking because it might give us a sense on how fragile these things are.
Sorry for your HD2.
Anyway, how you broke it?
WOW!How did you did that?
Sorry for your screen!

I use the phone as an alarm clock.
When sounded, I took it to shut it down and I dropped into bed. When going to pick it up accidentally leaned on the screen by making some pressure and I broke it

Damn! I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to replace, but if you don't think you can do it yourself better get someone else to do it! It will end up being cheaper than having to replace the whole phone

With most phones the screen is separate from the main board and chipsets etc. As far as I am aware usually the screen will be screwed in but not embedded into it. Though I could be wrong!!..... Just hoping to give some optimism
The screen is replaceable. You're not so lucky, man
Well, seeing this image actually hurts directly to my heart!
Anyway, search on eBay, but I don't think that there is any replacement part as the phone is completely new.
I did the same just now, except it's not the actual glass that's broken but it looks like the screen underneath. That however is completely shot, again, anybody know if it's possible to replace this?
And for those interested, pictures.
Result after dropping from about chest hight on the ground.

Repost, sorry
Mine's back with the service repair centre in the UK for a cracked screen and have just had my quote for repair £118.
No one else seems to have the spares.
The screen itself and surround was quoted at £78 labour £22, and the rest is for delivery.
The service centre isn't the quickest it's taken them a week from receiving the phone to give me a quote and then it's 5 days after you pay for them to fix the phone and test the software.
Luckily the insurance is paying
i can't believe!!!!!
i cracked my screen too!!
it falls down from 50 centimeters and the glass cracked in 1000 pieces!! i'll post the picture soon.
tomorrow i'm going to call the italian call center ..
Ouch!
Got my HD2 yesterday, now it has a hairline crack in the screen about 1cm long - don't know how - it's only been in a jacket pocket and car cradle.
Screen too weak?
Edit: O2 shop said it's a scratch not a crack - so much for scratch resistant glass.

What's the story?
Sent From My HTC Evo Using Tapatalk Pro!
a pictures worth a thousand words .
phone fell off seat in movie theater, like 2 feet from ground..
was it naked?
I cried a little inside when I saw this picture..
without a case ? ya
sorry.
I hate how badly HTC tempers some of their phones [screen that is]
I remember when I got my first TP2, broke screen on first drop... I had a replacement,... That I still have... I treat it like trash! And lemme tell you this thing is sturdy. My Evo... Has been abused, dropped, fell straight on the curb of the sidewalk (right onto the raised part and onto the floor). Only visible thing is a tiny dot of glass that chipped off the lower bottom right.. This one is sturdy as hell too...
this was my first time dropping the phone, I only had it for about two weeks.
The screen is like scratch proof but not shatter proof, it should be the other way around at least (hopefully both). I tried using my keys to scratch out a hole in the glass so i could take it out and see if i could get a replacement glass but the keys wouldnt even scratch as hard as i tried
i died a little inside when i saw that picture. if that happened to my phone...i would probably cry
Dang that really sux. I was so scared when I dropped my Evo at work from a height of 30 ft and lucky for me I just had sum dirt in the kick stand but that was the day I added insurance on my bill. I'm sure if u have insurance they will give u a new screen as there was a time with my instinct I broke the screen 3 times in a month and Sprint fixed it no questions asked

@ the PIC why put a 500$ phone on a sent and EVEN take the chance of it falling ?
That sucks man . Well if you don't have insurance, they sell replacement touch screen digitizers on eBay. Not sure how easy it is to replace.
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Sprint-Evo-...862017?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4152abc101
I have no affiliation to that seller, just looked up the cheapest one that wasn't out of the country.
Looks like some guys just put up a repair video too and it doesn't look too difficult, but I'd be scared to do it myself lol.
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-evo-4g-glass-touch-screen-digtizer-lcd-repair-guide.html
Most sprint repair stores are stocking glass/screen replacements. Just go down there and get it fixed, generally they can do them in 15-20 minutes
actually im within the first 30 days, so im taking the phone back to a store and swapping it for a brand new one. which seems like a great deal to me.
if you are rooted you will probably have to unroot... but you already knew that
I just flashed back to the stock rom i found in the evo wiki, that should be good correct ?

Good luck man. 30 days or not they're probably not gonna just swap an obviously damaged phone out for a new one. Not saying it wont happen, just.. good luck!

You should be good with that. In my experience I've had no trouble taking rooted devices in to them. I always make sure at the very least it appears stock when they power it up.
I called them and they are the ones that suggested i just return it and get a new one since it's within thirty days. I called the store too, not sprint (sometimes they like to contradict each other).
I dropped my slide in the toilet this morning... how cliche. I'm at work now with no dry rice handy and I have my phone sitting about 6 inches from my space heater.
Sitting in front of the heater the phone is fine, but when i remove it.. the screen starts to look "steamy" (see pic below).

is this ok? should I NOT be doing this? or is this just the water reacting to the heat and dissipating. I have no idea.. everything I've read says use alcohol or rice.. i have niether around. i'm going home on my lunch break tho to give it a rice bath for a few hours.
I put my dunce hat on momentarily and booted the thing. When I first pulled it out of the water everything worked except the buttons (keyboard, home, search/genius, menu and back). after letting it sit in front of the heater... everything SEEMS to work. i didn't play with it very long because i noticed the screen fogging up and thought it best to remove the battery again. That being said.. the heater seems to be working.
help please and thank you.
In case someone is keeping up with this...
UPDATE: I got one of the screws off on the back of the display and am using a small flat tip screw driver to prop it open in front of the heater. i just picked it up and it definitely took a LOT longer for the steam to show up... and there was definitely less of it.
I did the same thing to mine last week..I just took the battery and sim card out and let it sit over night.. the next morning I turned it back on and the screen looked like that for a few days and I had problems with a few keys not working and it randomly turning itself up and down..but after about a week its all back to normal without rice or alcohol

Just incase this happens again or 2 someone else.
This happened 2 me as well & what I did was I took the battery, sd & sim out asap & didnt turn it on till its had time 2 dry out some. (24hr, min) I stuck it in a cup of rice (not flat) & It ended up taking almost a week before it was 100% functional. By that time t-mobile offered me a replacement phone and said if they found water damage they would need 2 bill me $100 for an out of warranty exchange. That was 6 months ago and the water damage sticker was clearly red but they never billed me the $100.
You guys are lucky, I dropped a tp2 in the cat water dish and immediately pulled the battery and sim. The keyboard never recovered. Everything else still works.

Ditto, but one issue with the dry out
I also dropped my phone into the can, let it dry out for a few days and after the screen finally getting back to normal i thought all was well with the world. only problem is, now, if i turn off the phone, the super bright led comes on and doesnt go off until i turn the phone on again. any ideas how to fix this if it is possible? and even if the phone dies and i attempt to charge the led comes on and counteracts the charging. thanks for any help

But then, when I saw it lying screen faced down on the floor.... I was terrified, couldn't even look, had a feeling like somebody hit me with a sledge hammer in the back of my head, like somebody was drilling a hole inside my stomach... (all that happened in 2 secs).
And when I finally had the courage to pick it up (I was expecting the worst, broken screen, as it fell onto concrete), I was shocked, but in a good way. No new scratches at all!

I dropped mine a couple of months ago on a tiled floor, I didn't realise till I put a white wallpaper on it that some pixels were showing black only and as the weeks progressed the 1 or 2 black pixels started spreading across my screen till I couldn't take it anymore so I purposely dropped it again, the battery popped out and when I powered it up again everything was back to normal.

The Truth
The phone tend to slip in hand will survive the crash..
The phone won't slip won't survive the crash at all..
HTC Wildfire has slipping design. I use to miss my wild fire all the time.. One time screen broke but still working with one crack.. now when ever it wall it will remove it casing and battery will be some where phone will be some where case will be some where.. I think that is a crash protecting mechanism
Today I dropped my Nexus 6... And my case won't be here for another two days! The drop was from about 2 feet, the damage wasn't bad. Just a little scuffed up on the corners. Pictures below

That just makes me cringe.
When I ordered it from sprint they told me it was gonna be 1 to 3 weeks for the phone to get there that's why I didn't order a case sooner but the phone came in within 3 days.
One drop, about 3.5 feet....
Ouch! This phone is very slippery in dry cool weather and if your skin is dry. A little moisture and hand locks on like a magnet. Regardless, I'm looking forward to my case as I cling on to my N6 with a "kung fu grip" until it arrives
I've had mine slip out of my shirt pocket two times on to a hard tile floor. It landed screen down both times. It's in a spigen slim armor case and there was no damage.

One benefit of being backordered is that my case came first.
Thing I love most about following new phones on XDA... Is the people that drop then within the first week. Do you guys have hands made out of butter?
Yikes. I bet quite a few people already have broken nexus 6's. Which would suck so bad.
Mine yesterday slipped out of my shirt pocket and landed on my foot. I was only getting up from my couch and the ground is soft anyway, along with my foot, so nothing at all happened.
Not gonna be putting it in this shirt pocket again. It's too big for the pocket haha
