Today I dropped my Nexus 6... And my case won't be here for another two days! The drop was from about 2 feet, the damage wasn't bad. Just a little scuffed up on the corners. Pictures below

That just makes me cringe.
When I ordered it from sprint they told me it was gonna be 1 to 3 weeks for the phone to get there that's why I didn't order a case sooner but the phone came in within 3 days.
One drop, about 3.5 feet....
Ouch! This phone is very slippery in dry cool weather and if your skin is dry. A little moisture and hand locks on like a magnet. Regardless, I'm looking forward to my case as I cling on to my N6 with a "kung fu grip" until it arrives
I've had mine slip out of my shirt pocket two times on to a hard tile floor. It landed screen down both times. It's in a spigen slim armor case and there was no damage.

Ouch. It must of landed on a corner pretty good. I believe mine landed backside down on the asphalt and slid. Fell out of my lap when I got out of the car. Hopefully its not to expensive for you to get a replacement.

I don't know if getting a replacement is an option at this time. Probably putting it on ebay just to get it out of my sight.
I just gasped. I can't follow this thread anymore
Put a dark case on it and you won't see it.

Glad I went ahead ordered my case... Got all my accessories but no phone lol.
Every new phone I decide I am going to try no case...then I come across one of these threads. Thanks, guess I am going to go check it the accessories threads now.
One benefit of being backordered is that my case came first.
Thing I love most about following new phones on XDA... Is the people that drop then within the first week. Do you guys have hands made out of butter?
Yikes. I bet quite a few people already have broken nexus 6's. Which would suck so bad.
Mine yesterday slipped out of my shirt pocket and landed on my foot. I was only getting up from my couch and the ground is soft anyway, along with my foot, so nothing at all happened.
Not gonna be putting it in this shirt pocket again. It's too big for the pocket haha

It's funny, i was thinking the same thing earlier today. But I was expecting to see a bunch of "Google screwed us with a cheap screen. Only cheap glass breaks like this. I've never heard of any other phone screen breaking. This is not my fault in any wayl Google made the phone slip out of my hand!". But surprisingly, every one in this thread has acted civil.

Ouchies at these pics.... Can't wait till my diztronic gets here

I'm hoping it is built like my motox 2014. I've dropped it twice from 3.5 feet screen down onto tile floor and you can't even tell. No case

What's the story?
Sent From My HTC Evo Using Tapatalk Pro!
a pictures worth a thousand words .
phone fell off seat in movie theater, like 2 feet from ground..
was it naked?
I cried a little inside when I saw this picture..
without a case ? ya
sorry.
I hate how badly HTC tempers some of their phones [screen that is]
I remember when I got my first TP2, broke screen on first drop... I had a replacement,... That I still have... I treat it like trash! And lemme tell you this thing is sturdy. My Evo... Has been abused, dropped, fell straight on the curb of the sidewalk (right onto the raised part and onto the floor). Only visible thing is a tiny dot of glass that chipped off the lower bottom right.. This one is sturdy as hell too...
this was my first time dropping the phone, I only had it for about two weeks.
The screen is like scratch proof but not shatter proof, it should be the other way around at least (hopefully both). I tried using my keys to scratch out a hole in the glass so i could take it out and see if i could get a replacement glass but the keys wouldnt even scratch as hard as i tried
i died a little inside when i saw that picture. if that happened to my phone...i would probably cry
Dang that really sux. I was so scared when I dropped my Evo at work from a height of 30 ft and lucky for me I just had sum dirt in the kick stand but that was the day I added insurance on my bill. I'm sure if u have insurance they will give u a new screen as there was a time with my instinct I broke the screen 3 times in a month and Sprint fixed it no questions asked

@ the PIC why put a 500$ phone on a sent and EVEN take the chance of it falling ?
That sucks man . Well if you don't have insurance, they sell replacement touch screen digitizers on eBay. Not sure how easy it is to replace.
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Sprint-Evo-...862017?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4152abc101
I have no affiliation to that seller, just looked up the cheapest one that wasn't out of the country.
Looks like some guys just put up a repair video too and it doesn't look too difficult, but I'd be scared to do it myself lol.
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-evo-4g-glass-touch-screen-digtizer-lcd-repair-guide.html
Most sprint repair stores are stocking glass/screen replacements. Just go down there and get it fixed, generally they can do them in 15-20 minutes
actually im within the first 30 days, so im taking the phone back to a store and swapping it for a brand new one. which seems like a great deal to me.
if you are rooted you will probably have to unroot... but you already knew that
I just flashed back to the stock rom i found in the evo wiki, that should be good correct ?

Good luck man. 30 days or not they're probably not gonna just swap an obviously damaged phone out for a new one. Not saying it wont happen, just.. good luck!

You should be good with that. In my experience I've had no trouble taking rooted devices in to them. I always make sure at the very least it appears stock when they power it up.
I called them and they are the ones that suggested i just return it and get a new one since it's within thirty days. I called the store too, not sprint (sometimes they like to contradict each other).
How easy does the Nexus S battery cover scratch? Please participate, and let it know in the comments for how long you've used your device, and how you carry it with you (how you use it)!
just put on a case or put on a skin
see the Accessories section, lots of good choices
Ghost armor over the whole phone. Looks and feels great.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I put an Invisible Shield on the backplate of my Galaxy S i9000 for the same reason. Seems like it (or any of the similar products) are the best path to go.
I haven't done this on my Nexus S yet.
I'm was considering just buying a new backplate when it gets so beat up that I don't like the look any more.
Mine's not scratched at all that I notice after 5-6 weeks I've had it.
Sorry, I don't think I made myself clear. I want to know how bad the back cover scratches, not which case I need to buy (because if I'm going to buy a case, it's going to be the "S" curved one).
@above: thanks! Can you tell me how you carry around your phone? In your pocket? With other stuff? And where do you put it down if you don't use it? On a place where it could be scratched?
No scratches ...
Not using any case either
My phone is naked and I put it in a soft leather / fabric pouch ...
And I put it in my jeans pocket, together with keys and coins
Done this for months with my HTC Desire and it is still shinny as new!
i carry it in my horizontal belt leather case that was for my old SGS I9000
perfect fit
I already mentioned above no scratches on mine yet.
I carry it naked, in my pocket. My headphones are alway in my pocket (so there's a naked jack in there usually), and I frequently carry a second phone in the same pocket (an iPhone 4 or an i9000).
I've added a poll an edited the first post.
No scratches on mine, but that's because I keep mine in a Nexus One pouch.

I'm exactly like this, except from the keys and coins.
I don't have any scratches (I'm very pedantic with that matter) and I don't use any case (makes the phone looks ridiculous).
I have a couple little scratches... but if you pay close attention to the phone, it has a few black web scratches over a few areas. Almost reminds me of black paint on cars. My Samsung tv is made out of the same plastic and it has the web scratches.
This is an just an example of what I'm talking about....

No scratches. All naked and I definitely don't take care of it as I should
I have couple on the back and where the usb port is. I tend to miss sometimes when it's dark and I'm tired, didn't really expect it to be scratched there. Oh well, I'll be keeping this phone for a while anyways. Also use a case, but I don't think it's doing a very good job protecting it from scratches.
Recently my Acer Iconia 64Gb was dropped, it flew about 5-7 meters (16.4-22 feet) - down onto the iced concrete.
The edge got damaged it remained on though.
One way to fix the the dent on the side was to open up the case and sharpen it.
So I took a flat headed screw driver and proceeded to open from the docking side at the bottom.
I took some photos with my SGSII, sorry for the quality it was dark and I really wanted to get it fixed ASAP.
here is the damaged edge if it can be seen..

I then closed it all together.. I was having problem though... closing as I didnt take out my extra MicroSD card and my SIM card... So dont forget to remove that if you decide to open up
Any how the edge is still not totally recovered but better then it was.
PS: Dont leave your Iconia sitting at a dangerous place without your supervision!
@RiceDie, Iconias don't make good hockey pucks! iPads are much better.
Dude, get a case for your poor tab next time you take it out for a "curling" match
Moscow Desire I guess the official Acer case would of saved my Tab but I had a classy leather one climing on a RMG crane at a port, I left it in an unsafe place that it fell off while I was walking the stair ways!
Yeah those iGadgets would be better off either dusting shelves or getting played on ice
Any how I still adore my A501 !

Wow. 16 ft drop and that's the only damage? I dropped mine 3ft while it was in a leather case and got that much damage. In fact, that corner of my tablet looks exactly the same.

So glad tablet is ok. You got very lucky.i to have a corner damaged on mine from a drop of the Coffee table .Well it was pushed by the cat Making more room to nap. I Do think the alum design looks nice but Is not as strong as a well made plastic case that has some bounce.
No i did not kill the cat . I just keep my tablet out of her way.
Nice story. thanks for sharing .
Nice to hear that Im lucky by such little damage

yea, will have to get good case + screen guard.
I guess this will be the first time when I'll buy a case for my phone. S2 was invincible.
She wasn't very accurate with her dropping.
But anyone who uses a phone w/out a case is a fool (IMO).
Just a $300+ accident waiting to happen.
And cases are available sooo slim nowadays.
.. and seriously, you need to be 7ft tall or even taller for the phone to be dropped that high.. LOL
unless you're on a horse or umm levitating.. LOL.. what are the odds? hmm?

yeah sometimes a phone can fall from 30cm and get smashed, other times not a single scratch :X
Someone should make a video of 'real life events'. You know...having the phone on lap then getting out of the car, etc. Because, in those instances, the phone isn't falling straight down. It's got some angle and slide to it.
(I took my Nexus One and threw it face down onto tiles about 3 feet in front of me...and nothing but the lcd underneath broke.)

I am with you. I have never had a case, but do have a screen guard. Never had a problem yet.
It makes me laugh how the iphone crowd go on about how great looking their phone is and how the glass back looks great. Or when they go on about how the S2, looks like cheap plastic. Yet they cover their phone with a £1.99 cover from ebay, so they never see or feel the phone. And the gel, rubber cover from ebay is cheaper and tackier than the S2 phone.
this is the biggest downside of the phone... i don't care for the minor issues that i read about this phone except for this.. what was samsung thinking? didn't they test a few phones before putting it into production? didn't they test how tough gorilla glass 2 or lack there of before using it on their flagship phone?
fail!
i'm still upgrading to it though.. LOL
No matter how careful you are, accidents always happen.. My Moto maxx just took its first drop onto concrete floor from 1.5 meters onto the screen. It jumped with the impact and flipped around itself for 3 times. I thought it wouldn't survive such a bad fall. It was worth to be filmed in slow motion. I was ready to accept it was cracked. Luckily not even a scratch on glass or smallest of dent in housing. This phone is a tank. :good:
Its a Motorola phone. That's the reason it didn't break. My dad dropped a DROID RAZR HD into a car mother and it kept banging around and it slammed very hard onto the ground and the phone was still fine.
For every good outcome, there's a bad one.
I dropped my turbo face down on concrete and it shattered. Had to have Motorola replace it.

My red Droid Turbo dropped face down onto gravel 2 days ago and shattered the glass. Will have to return it to stock image before I return it. Replacement should arrive Wed. It was in an Encased case, which does fine to protect the corners and back but only has a very minimal lip above the screen. Gravel seems to be gorilla glass' worst nightmare. A couple of years ago my wife smashed her Droid Razr screen the same way (face down onto gravel). Hers was even in a case similar to an otterbox that had a large lip around the screen. The uneven surface and raised points of gravel seem to be the issue.
It is the metalized carbon fiber version. Not really fond of how easily the casing gets damaged. Before I got the Encased case, just a short drop from my windshield phone mount onto certain parts of the car has resulted in numerous damage including a deep nick in one corner, a couple of small dents around the screen by the volume rocker, and a 2mm section near another corner where the outer paint chipped off.
