If you press on the cable right near the microusb location (to insure there's no "wiggling" around in the socket), does it charge properly?
If it's not, it might be some weird combination ROM/flash/phone and I suggest you switch back to a stock ROM and see.

I got that. Does it do the same when you plug in the wall charger (wall socket one)? Does it charge continuously or does it make connected-disconnected cycle sounds?

I'm out of ideas, so you should probably ask in the custom rom thread for help (last you flashed).

can be due to a USB connector short.
Try this video: youtu.be <slash> x32b0YeAGX8
the forum does not allow me to paste a link - which is weird - this being a internet forum and all.

My focus had the same issue. Vibrates, gives sound, screen comes on. I searched on google and found out it is a hardware issue. The pin inside the charge port might be too close to the corner. Check it. Solution: Use a sharp pin to pull it back to middle. It worked for me.. You can give it a try.

Try unchecking usb debug mode in settings/applications/development. If that doesn't work, check it. Let us know.
The spellchecking chip may have overheated and burnt your cpu to smithereens.
I couldn't get the phone to connect as stock. Turns out it was the cable- I had another (shorter) micro usb cord, and it worked like a charm.

Uninstall old samsung drivers in control panel and reboot.. Make sure the phone is unplugged after reboot.. Install the drivers once more and plug in the phone. It should start to install the drivers automatically, and viola. You need to try different ports on your computer also, some do not play well with Odin and the phone itself.
Are you connecting to the same USB port as before? For some reason only one of the three USB ports on my laptop recognizes my phone. I read somewhere that its something to do with amount of pins on the USB port but I don't know very much about that.
Try other USB cables, try ports directly on your motherboard in the back, try another computer, try reinstalling the drivers, try typing out your words and being a little more clear, you are talking about your 500$ phone, not texting in class... not to be mean, but cmon... that was literally hard to read... I must be getting old. Oh, and have you tried getting your epic drunk? your PC will look better after that and that may just get the job done. No, seriously, read the threads relating to Odin'ing and the 'one click root' as they both have every imaginable way your phone and computer can not see each other. Get a snack, they're a long read, and that was a month ago...
Disclaimer: not responsible if you actually attempt to put alcohol into your phone.
Also, Schizo is right, that cable is junk, only use it for charging!
I've noticed the cable that comes with the phone is crap. After a few days of use I also had this issue. Your best bet is to use a third party cable.
I actually bought a shorter cable and my computer only recognizes my phone with the STOCK longer cable. It won't recognize the one I bought.

Yesterday my Phone became an unrecognized USB device

After months of no problems yesterday I plugged my phone in for its nightly charge and noticed that it did not trigger the usual USB mount prompt.
I assumed it was Windows, but I have a bunch of machines and operating systems so I checked and they all has the same result. I switched out cords and did a complete power reset (taking battery out) no change.. The Phone charges through the USB but the computers say "unrecognized usb device" and cannot mount the phone as a drive and the phone does not offer the option as it used to???
I don't recall getting any sort of update that might have related to this?
This is the original T-mobile version
This happens to me all the time. However a restart of my phone and computer solves the issue.

How do you do that without USB connectivity?
It is very frustrating, maybe a hardware fail? I see just enough post relating to the issue that makes me know it is real but not sure how to resolve,, Do we have to go to Best Buy? or is there a direct Samsung route?
This too happens to me. Whenever I plug it into my laptop on the top USB slot, it doesn't recognize it. If I plug it in on the bottom USB slot, it does. Not sure why. This, however, is only the case if I'm using a different USB cable than the one that came with the phone itself. Once again, not sure why.
Perhaps you are using an alternative USB? Or plugging in on the top? Not sure how I can help you more than that, sorry. Hope you find a fix!

Using official OEM cable that came with the phone. And, again, USB worked fine until I manually installed 2.3.4.
Well It is off to Samsung for repair
After time on phone with them and a factory reset belief is that the usb connector is defective. BTW Best Buy just hands off to Samsung 1-800 #
So Back to a barely functional G-1 for a while, glad I could find it!

RUU not working

I'm having a problem getting the RUU from the Wiki to work. It runs for a bit, then when the phone restarts and comes up on the black "HTC" screen, it says it's lost USB connection and I have to restart. The phone doesn't do anything and I've got to pull the battery to start over.
USB debugging is on, so that's not the problem....
any help would be appreciated.
Make sure your using an HTC usb cable, or at least a really good quality one. I was having a few problems awhile back. Turned out to be the generic (cheap) usb cable I was using.

By far the easiest way to go back to stock. Won't work unless your SD card is formatted to fat32.

I tried that, didn't work, kept popping up an error while it tried to flash. Might have been a corrupt download.

That wasn't it, considering I'm still using the cable that came with the phone. It's something to do with my computer at work, because the RUU worked great on my laptop at home.

Nexus S USB connection issue.

Last week when I plugged my USB cable into my phone, it acted normal. The screen where it asks me if I want to connect USB came up, and I said yes. Everything was normal. It was baller.
Today, that doesn't happen. The screen doesn't come up and all the USB cable does is charge my phone, much like the wall plug does.
I've tried to install USB drivers, but they always require me to find "Android" in Device Manager, and it's never in there. The USB cable is doing nothing but charging my phone.
I managed to add a few mp3s over wifi, just to make sure that was actually working.
The phone is not rooted, (I was actually just going to try to do that) and everything is stock aside from a few apps.
I would really like some insight on this, please.
Do I need to get the phone replaced? Am I doing something wrong?
OK, I new to this, but thought I'd comment. If USB debugging is turned on, my seems to do that.

Wow, you're right. My HTC cord worked. Thanks a lot.
I have had this happen on to me and have determined that a) the long cable that came with the NS4G is unreliable when used for USB connectivity with my PC. Shorter cables (even the shorter Samsung cable that came with my Epic) work consistently. I am guessing that this is a USB Bus power issue and some people will have better mileage than others using the stock cable, depending on their PC.
b) on a few occasions, it seems I've somehow borked the PC's USB controller and the PC wouldn't recongnize anything until I rebooted it.

I would like to flash my phone to factory using Samsung Simple downloader for NS4G.
Background, installed Ice Cream but didn't have radio.img so used an SU to downgrade back to 2.3, did that but no mobile network. Then the phone updated to 2.3.6 and now getting that error. Any help will be appreciated.
I searched a few times on this forum and on google.com no luck. tried to adding a recovery file manually and zip it as update.zip and install from bootloader no luck. (use file explorer and dropbox to get files on to phone).
Thanks

Was your phone rooted at any point before the issue? Not sure if they would fix it under warranty for me. I will call Samsung and see.
Thanks, I tried that but no luck. Still need to tried other cords. Also.
My phone developed this problem a couple days ago. I haven't done much to troubleshoot it...figured the port must be damaged.
(Not using the Samsung cable, btw)

It might be the port. I will have to get a samsung cable and try it, but i doubt it will help. Plus i can tell Samsung I tried everything. (I looked a ticket, but they said get a samsung cord, they don't trust the Palm Pre cord i am using).
I had to downgrade to the HTC Hero until i get the phone fixed.

Bricked? What can i else do?

Hi, i tried too install Android 4.0.4 on HTC H2 After many failes(Android stucked at GoGoGo) I have done next task29+radio, then on 96% it stucked vibrated few times and error occured. Now when i'm trying to turn on phone it keeps vibrating, and display nothing, cant get to bootloader either. Anything else i can do about that?
EDIT: ALSO when connecting phone to PC its system "sees" yet it keeping disconnecting and connectiong every 5-10 sec.

Yes i think the problem is the flash (ROM) chip. It is on motherboard so yes you must replace "insides". And i am sorry for your phone.:crying:
Have you tried to uninstall the drivers for the phone? And if your computer is Asus, do you have an app called Asus usb charger or something like that?
I had a problem with an Iphone which was not recognized by Itunes. And the device manager was going crazy, bcs the computer kept switching off the connection with the phone. It turned out there was an Asus app, called Asus usb charger or something like that, which was causing the problem.
So, check everything on your PC and find out why the connection keep getting switched off, format your memory card with SD formatter and after that try to flash it with Windows 6.5.
Best of luck!
