So in a couple months I'm going to upgrade my EVO.. maybe to the EVO LTE even though it doesn't have a removable battery.. I havnt read up on it much but in case of freezing, how do you shut it down or do a hard shut off? Would hate to have a frozen phone for all time until its battery dies =/
I've heard both though. some reviews on YouTube shows that it does have a removable battery. Some say otherwise. Will report on Friday (=
I think if it does freeze u can restart the phone by holding the power button and a combination of the volume up and down button or hold all three at the same time...when I had my iphone you could hold the power button and menu at the same time for like 15 sec and it would restart

Most if not all phones these days (especially ones without removable batteries) have a button combination that will restart the phone. Even your evo. I haven't pulled a battery in about 6 months. Power+volume up and down. Takes anywhere from 2-10 seconds.

The battery is NOT removable for the 1 millionth time, it is a sealed non-removable 2000mah battery. Read the spec sheet instead of watching YouTube, if you believe everything from YouTube, GW Bush is a reptilian alien, Bigfoot plays for the Lakers, the titanic never sank, 9/11 was perpetrated by a US military demolition crew. I could go on and on. 99% of the people reviewing phones on YouTube don't even have one or else they have a non working display model like the guy who got an Evo LTE prototype leaked image and swore up and down it was the next Evo 3d :shakes head:

Actually most phones all you have to do is hold power for 10-20 seconds and it will turn off, even phones with removable batteries. My et4g does it you just hold power down for 15 seconds and it turns off, hold it for 20 and it reboots, hold power & volume+ for 20 seconds and it reboots to recovery and hold power & volume- for 20 seconds and it reboots to download mode

I wasn't rude I could easily point you to about 100 places its been said that its sealed and that's with out even trying to look. Maybe a million is a slight exaggeration but seeing the same crap posted 900 times and and no one apparently reads any of it or if they read it it doesn't stick gets frustrating. I see the same stuff posted over and over and over in both forums for my phones and its the exact same crap about the evolte and the sgs3 and there's atleast 3 new threads every day with the same exact stuff, its rather annoying. Personally I don't give a crap about either phone I don't come to the evo4g and et4g forums to read about the Evo lte and the sgs3

Hi all.
I currently have a galaxy s and I'm tired of all of the bugs (lag and gps). I've searched the www. And I don't see any complaints about the evo other than battery life.
Im thinking about switching to the evo becuase it seems like a pretty solid phone with great community dev support. But before I do, I thought I would check in with you all to see if there are any known issues/annoyances with the phone.
Thanks!

the battery life has gotten a lot better over the past few months. Now 2 days on a charge is pretty easy. It sucks compared to dumbphones but considering this phone is more powerful than my original eeePC netbook which only lasts 2 hours on a charge 2 days is pretty phenomenal
The REAL flaw with the Evo is that the housing cracks. Pretty much all Evos develop hairline cracks/fractures at the power button and volume buttons. It's not going to cause the phone to fall apart but it's kind of a downer when you find the cracks in your phone. If you get a case that protects the phone and has its own buttons that press the power and volume buttons for you then you can likely avoid developing those cracks.
Other than that this phone is amazing.
All I can say is my wife and I got rid of our etch e sketches (iphones) and switched over to Sprint for the EVO and have never looked back.
With ROM/Kernel combo in my sig I am currently at Uptime of 11hrs 39 min and 50 min with Awake time while at 90% batt life. I stream a lot of music through bluetooth headset, watch videos, hulu tv, pull data thru apps from home computer, email etc.
The least I do is make phone calls and I dont have 4G here so I am sure battery life will get pegged somewhat when we do get it.
All in all I use between 8-9GB of data a month since EVO came out. I have also upped from 8GB micro sd to a 32GB and bought Sprints OEM extended battery.
When you see pics of cracked screens on the web you will learn not to drop it... Again, I think you will like it.
I made the switch from a vibrant and I love the evo. The only thing I miss about the vibrant is the amount of on board storage. Evo has no lag, perfect gps and great support so far

You guys are awesome; thanks for all of the replies.

Well, I live in Arizona so it is pretty hot here, and my phone, as a result gets pretty hot as well. Anyway, after some lengthy use the phone gets to about 40 degrees centigrade and then after a bit turns itself off, and vibrated five short times. After that, I cannot turn the phone back on until I pull the battery and put it back in again. Is this normal? Or is this just a faulty EVO?

I play a couple games that cause my evo to get very hot ie star legends, however it has never shut off on me. i never checked the temp, but it definitely gets very hot to the touch and even though I continue to play, it doesn't turn off..
This is just from my experience.
It's a faulty cpu temp sensor - the phone must be replaced. Search for my identical thread posted about a week ago.

I also cool the phone to approx. 30C on an AC vent before flashing any roms or mods - it struggles booting up when the temp is elevated but runs great once booted and under 40C. This will have to do until the 4g's true successor is released...I love my rooted phone running Evo Deck and SZ bfs

I hate when you buy a electronic device that is defective and they give you a refurb as a replacement. Hope you guys get root soon.
It is kind of like a swift kick to the junk, furthered by the fact that they gave me an older refurb. Not a fancy 004 refurb... Anyway, patiently awaiting root, since I in no way shape or form have the skill to figure something like that out.. I gave up that career a while ago...
I am in AZ also. When I get high temps, my indicator lights flash an alternating red/green, usually while charging, but it has never turned itself off....

well I decided to mess around with cm7 once I saw that it had 4g.
I probably should have done some more research on the differences between mtd and bml before trying to go back to a bml rom from cm7.....
Now for the first time ever I think I bricked my phone since I can't even get it into download mode to restore with odin.
Just really wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on something I might be missing before I take it back to sprint and probably have to pay something
Thank you
Hold the little pin down by the camera for 30 seconds. Cover has to be off to access it. Or try leaving the phone alone for an hour with the battery out, and then use odin, but do it with the battery out. The computer will power the phone for you.

Others have had success by popping the battery in and out a few times while attempting to get into download mode. But mostly try no battery, no sd card, connect to computer and try download mode.
Yea I ended up remembering this from way back when I first got the phone, took the battery out for 15 seconds and put it back in and got into download mode and restored the correct tar thsi time not just the modem tar i had....
Thanks for all the quick replies though

Someone will dissect the phone and show all the parts on a tech blog. They do it for most flagship phones.
If you don't feel like waiting, there are 4 easy steps to verify battery capacity:
1. Acquire hammer.
2. Smash phone.
3. Read battery specs.
4. Weep.

i was looking forward to that phone, until i read that. i have 2000mah batteries for my evo, and they don't last. i have 4 of them and i use 2 a day. i was so excited that the evo lte looked awesome and had all the features i wanted, until i read that. i'll be looking elsewhere now. it really ****ing sucks that they would do this. if anything, i'll wait until somebody takes it apart to see if its soldered in and possible to swap out... i'll just throw a case over the back and keep it unscrewed if its an easy swap, but otherwise i'll pass... i'm not around chargers enough to justify not being able to swap a battery. might as well get an iphone, it'll at least last longer.

Press and hold volume up, down, and power at he same time. It takes 5 or 6 seconds. You can even get to hboot if you press volume down after it shuts off the screen.
Sealed Battery
I just canceled my upgrade. Swapping out the battery is important to me. And what happens after a year when the battery just doesn't hold a charge very well. I'm disappointed with HTC and we have 4 EVOs in our house. I'll have to see what else is available now. Samsung???
It may only be the need to open the phone, and remove a flex cable, peal the battery out, it may or may not be soldered in, or in a clip. Its very simple, and with ICS and the S4 in the EVO LTE, I am not worried at all, but that's because I also fix phones all day lately.

You never know!! Gotta think positive man! And actually, I had Wimax on launch day in STL. But LTE will take longer for me this time around. I only used 4g a few times at the start(20mb/s in class), but never really even attempted to use it after the first few months as I didn't get great 4g at my place, though I probably haven't tried in about a year...

At about 70 degrees Celsius the phone would melt, then brick and not have any power at all. So yeah, she thought she had a get rich quick scheme.
And to be Honest 70C is the limit of newer phones, the HTC Evo 4G wouldn't live over 117F it would warp the board causing instant power loss....trust me my first OG made it to 120 once...shortly later I had a replacement.
