Holy Sheet! - EVO Shift 4G General

HTC EVO Shift 4G is red hot, leaves burn in the shape of the phone on woman's body.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-...the-shape-of-the-phone-on-womans-body_id42542
Probably intentional.
It would have to be burning awhile b4 it'd leave that mark.
***** needs some cash.

I'm calling BS on this story.

Sounds like apple not android besides there's no way to get a phone that hot anyway
stare into oblivion
Fall into sleep

Mine has gotten hot a few times while streaming music and GPS, but never like this. Probably has gotten warm at best. Yeah...total BS. Why would she even let it get to that point?

At about 70 degrees Celsius the phone would melt, then brick and not have any power at all. So yeah, she thought she had a get rich quick scheme.
And to be Honest 70C is the limit of newer phones, the HTC Evo 4G wouldn't live over 117F it would warp the board causing instant power loss....trust me my first OG made it to 120 once...shortly later I had a replacement.

Phone Overheating

Well, I live in Arizona so it is pretty hot here, and my phone, as a result gets pretty hot as well. Anyway, after some lengthy use the phone gets to about 40 degrees centigrade and then after a bit turns itself off, and vibrated five short times. After that, I cannot turn the phone back on until I pull the battery and put it back in again. Is this normal? Or is this just a faulty EVO?

I play a couple games that cause my evo to get very hot ie star legends, however it has never shut off on me. i never checked the temp, but it definitely gets very hot to the touch and even though I continue to play, it doesn't turn off..
This is just from my experience.
It's a faulty cpu temp sensor - the phone must be replaced. Search for my identical thread posted about a week ago.

My phone runs ok since this issue appeared, I just make sure to keep the battery < 40C.
I also cool the phone to approx. 30C on an AC vent before flashing any roms or mods - it struggles booting up when the temp is elevated but runs great once booted and under 40C. This will have to do until the 4g's true successor is released...I love my rooted phone running Evo Deck and SZ bfs

I hate when you buy a electronic device that is defective and they give you a refurb as a replacement. Hope you guys get root soon.
It is kind of like a swift kick to the junk, furthered by the fact that they gave me an older refurb. Not a fancy 004 refurb... Anyway, patiently awaiting root, since I in no way shape or form have the skill to figure something like that out.. I gave up that career a while ago...
I am in AZ also. When I get high temps, my indicator lights flash an alternating red/green, usually while charging, but it has never turned itself off....

You know there's apps that can tell you that, right?
And as a company, it would be a REALLY bad PR move to lie to the consumers. It would be very easy to test. Come on man.

Someone will dissect the phone and show all the parts on a tech blog. They do it for most flagship phones.
If you don't feel like waiting, there are 4 easy steps to verify battery capacity:
1. Acquire hammer.
2. Smash phone.
3. Read battery specs.
4. Weep.

i was looking forward to that phone, until i read that. i have 2000mah batteries for my evo, and they don't last. i have 4 of them and i use 2 a day. i was so excited that the evo lte looked awesome and had all the features i wanted, until i read that. i'll be looking elsewhere now. it really ****ing sucks that they would do this. if anything, i'll wait until somebody takes it apart to see if its soldered in and possible to swap out... i'll just throw a case over the back and keep it unscrewed if its an easy swap, but otherwise i'll pass... i'm not around chargers enough to justify not being able to swap a battery. might as well get an iphone, it'll at least last longer.

Press and hold volume up, down, and power at he same time. It takes 5 or 6 seconds. You can even get to hboot if you press volume down after it shuts off the screen.
Sealed Battery
I just canceled my upgrade. Swapping out the battery is important to me. And what happens after a year when the battery just doesn't hold a charge very well. I'm disappointed with HTC and we have 4 EVOs in our house. I'll have to see what else is available now. Samsung???
It may only be the need to open the phone, and remove a flex cable, peal the battery out, it may or may not be soldered in, or in a clip. Its very simple, and with ICS and the S4 in the EVO LTE, I am not worried at all, but that's because I also fix phones all day lately.

You never know!! Gotta think positive man! And actually, I had Wimax on launch day in STL. But LTE will take longer for me this time around. I only used 4g a few times at the start(20mb/s in class), but never really even attempted to use it after the first few months as I didn't get great 4g at my place, though I probably haven't tried in about a year...

EVO Upgrade

So in a couple months I'm going to upgrade my EVO.. maybe to the EVO LTE even though it doesn't have a removable battery.. I havnt read up on it much but in case of freezing, how do you shut it down or do a hard shut off? Would hate to have a frozen phone for all time until its battery dies =/
I've heard both though. some reviews on YouTube shows that it does have a removable battery. Some say otherwise. Will report on Friday (=
I think if it does freeze u can restart the phone by holding the power button and a combination of the volume up and down button or hold all three at the same time...when I had my iphone you could hold the power button and menu at the same time for like 15 sec and it would restart

Most if not all phones these days (especially ones without removable batteries) have a button combination that will restart the phone. Even your evo. I haven't pulled a battery in about 6 months. Power+volume up and down. Takes anywhere from 2-10 seconds.

The battery is NOT removable for the 1 millionth time, it is a sealed non-removable 2000mah battery. Read the spec sheet instead of watching YouTube, if you believe everything from YouTube, GW Bush is a reptilian alien, Bigfoot plays for the Lakers, the titanic never sank, 9/11 was perpetrated by a US military demolition crew. I could go on and on. 99% of the people reviewing phones on YouTube don't even have one or else they have a non working display model like the guy who got an Evo LTE prototype leaked image and swore up and down it was the next Evo 3d :shakes head:

Actually most phones all you have to do is hold power for 10-20 seconds and it will turn off, even phones with removable batteries. My et4g does it you just hold power down for 15 seconds and it turns off, hold it for 20 and it reboots, hold power & volume+ for 20 seconds and it reboots to recovery and hold power & volume- for 20 seconds and it reboots to download mode

Maybe a million is a slight exaggeration but seeing the same crap posted 900 times and and no one apparently reads any of it or if they read it it doesn't stick gets frustrating. I see the same stuff posted over and over and over in both forums for my phones and its the exact same crap about the evolte and the sgs3 and there's atleast 3 new threads every day with the same exact stuff, its rather annoying. Phone Temperature?

During extended screen on time, like having Hit-it-rich running for 20 minutes
my Moto X Pure reached the temperature of 113
Still stock
The same screen time and app running on the One Plus One -- Reached the temperature of 101.3
The One Plus One is using CM12.1
These are battery temperatures according to the program.
I'm on my second moto x and it definitely runs much cooler than the first which would get to 112 browsing chrome.
I haven't bothered to check this unit as it is that much better.
The only time I noticed mine get hot was when I was installing all my apps. Since then, it's been remarkably cool, even when streaming Rick & Morty HD from Amazon.
It gets hot with Candy Crush...
mine gets warm from charging or just when i have the screen on ...it's always pretty warm, but as far as problems go that is pretty far down on the list
Mine hit 120 degrees F according to Ampere using Waze on the drive home. I use adaptive brightness set at half. I also have an Incipio Case protecting it....although I feel it's only hurting it temp-wise. I'm so on the verge of rooting tonight, but feel I might want to hold off in case I have to return it for lower than wanted battery life and the announcement of the Huawei 6p.
The only time I've noticed it getting warm since initial setup was while making a nandroid backup. I've not been very demanding of it though.
Phone Temperature!!!
Mine gets to 107 when playing heavy 3D games and at same time downloading with LTE beyond ten minutes. Other than that it is barely warm to warm. 80s and mid 90s. Upper 90s with 3d games.
Mine easily gets above 110 when I'm playing clash for a few min. Seems to avg 100 anytime my screen is on. Thinking I might need to swap for another one.
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA Free mobile app
Only time mine got hot was when I tried to play Monster Strike while plugged in..got up to 107 but there was no degradation of performance.
are you guys talking celcius or F!? i sure hope F lol.
right now installing all my apps and charging on my samsung fast charger, it's at 150 F lol..pretty damn hot. i just cut my sim down to a nano sim but i think it cut some of the sim part off ugh..gonna try it..if not, off to verizon to get a card
mine ran 100+ at all times. Texting, tapatalk, facebook, anything it was always hot. Worst call quality, awful heat and battery I had return label printed after a half a day of use. Worst phone ever
∆ Too bad you got a dud. My Pure is great fwiw.

Interested to see what you come back with. However, it might settle down a little since you are only 4 days into it. Let us know what GSAM shows eating up your battery. Something might have gone rogue on you.
mine randomly will hit up to like 103 if I'm using it for a bit and switching between apps etc. charging on turbo charger hits like 110 or so.

This is one of the reasons I sent mine back. Mine got insanely hot. Wouldn't burn you, but hot enough to the point that it would worry you. At first, If I started to feel it get warm I'd screen off and put it in my pocket, but even then it would build heat. Tried brightness settings and CPU tuning, but nothing worked except for a refund. Ordered a Tempered glass screen protector for nothing now. Tried to give it away twice with no success so the First person to PM me about it gets it free. I have no use for it.
Yeah that was a big reason for me sending mine back, I had it for a total of 5 or 6 days and it would get super hot for no reason. I could be going through emails or searching something on google and it would heat up almost to the point of feeling like I was running a stress test on the phone. I know 4 people that own this phone and they have all had problems with heat, I personally feel like all that heat kills the lifespan of the phone which was a big reason for returning it. Hope you figure it out man, good luck.
It's to be expected guys snapdragon 800 series aka housefire edition. Just be glad we didn't get the 810 which would start melting plastic if left unchecked. Qualcomm is at an end with Samsung's new exynos that barely emits heat while having ludicrous performence I wish Samsung would make a stock Android phone.
I don't think the phone gets that hot, but maybe that's just because I'm coming off the HTC One M9. My MXPE does get warm from time to time, but I have yet to experience it getting so hot as to render it uncomfortable to hold. I had the HTC One M9 and the M8 before it, and those phones definitely got crazy hot. Even my old Motorola XT912 (Droid RAZR Maxx) got hotter than the MXPE seems to. I got my MXPE with the Walnut back, so maybe the wood materials just don't heat up as much.
I wouldn't say phone heats up for no reason. Something is making phone work under no activity. Something running back ground. If your rooted, you can pin point the heateruper. I'm hoping with 6.0 coming soon, we can get optimized rom with bada$$ kernel for best battery tweaking. I can only hope and patiently wait..
