well I decided to mess around with cm7 once I saw that it had 4g.
I probably should have done some more research on the differences between mtd and bml before trying to go back to a bml rom from cm7.....
Now for the first time ever I think I bricked my phone since I can't even get it into download mode to restore with odin.
Just really wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on something I might be missing before I take it back to sprint and probably have to pay something
Thank you
Hold the little pin down by the camera for 30 seconds. Cover has to be off to access it. Or try leaving the phone alone for an hour with the battery out, and then use odin, but do it with the battery out. The computer will power the phone for you.

This. Also take sdcard out
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Others have had success by popping the battery in and out a few times while attempting to get into download mode. But mostly try no battery, no sd card, connect to computer and try download mode.
Yea I ended up remembering this from way back when I first got the phone, took the battery out for 15 seconds and put it back in and got into download mode and restored the correct tar thsi time not just the modem tar i had....
Thanks for all the quick replies though

Wow another "I believe in magical reset buttons" guy..... there's no button if you take it apart it was from leaving the battery out long enough that makes people believe this. Leaving the battery out usually drains the charge and resets the phone somehow....

If your phone is bricked and you cabnot use the 3 button mode there us an solution for that. The jig. But i have an free solution. Put your charger into your phone (NOT USB). Then wait for 45 minutes. When the minutes are over try holding VOLUME DOWN+HOME+POWER and it should must go into download mode.

Well...
To give the OP a little bit of credit.
I think it just sometimes works like the previous recommended methods of heating the phone.
I have never had my phone in a full brick state to prove this, but I have had the [phone ! PC] screen once, and was not kicking into download mode no matter what I was trying.
I did plug the phone on USB charge for a good half hour to an hour, because the USB charger seems to generate more heat in the phone. After this it did kick into download mode.
I just think it falls back on a natural way of heating the phone enough for it to work.

Hello people, I thought I would inform you all of a much better and effective method to deal with your phone freezing. Many of us are using custom kernels such as nemesis2all's OTB or imnuts peanut butter jelly time in which have a tendency to freeze our phones due to the overclocking/undervolting. Or, we are on JT's new CM7 mtd or Andmer's GB MIUI and our screens will turn off and nothing that we do will turn them back on. The natural reaction to this occurrence is to take the back off the phone and pull the battery out. But, this is not good for it to be abruptly pulled in the midst of supplying power to your phone. Not to mention the severe battery drain that comes along with doing this, as I'm sure many of you have already noticed to be the case. No matter what rom/kernel you are on and no matter how frozen your phone is, if you simply hold both the volume up and volume down buttons and the power button at the same time for about 10 seconds, your phone will do a hard reboot. Problem solved without doing harm or damage to your phone and without excessive battery drain. This method even works for CM7 MTD/GB MIUI MTD. This is not the same thing as the three finger method that you are warned not to do with these roms. This method will lead to overall better battery life and phone life. Not to mention, a lot less frustration.
I think just vol UP + power works, but either way.. it's a useful trick to know!
And especially helpful if you have a case on

Good to know. I broke my case by taking it off and on so many times. It's still useable but this will prevent further damage, and save me some time.

Yea, but not while the phone is on and in a frozen state with a steady stream of battery power being supplied to it, I assume. That is very different.

Power on but not frozen... but I agree its not good to pull battery in frozen state... volume up and power button is what I do in that situation. My SF has only froze two times and that was from overclocking... not very stable over 1200 on the stock rom. Srry hope my last post did not offend, I meant as verizon was dumb for having me pull the battery with power on!

It's what I use as well, power+both volume buttons does nothing for me, I think technically power+volume up is a soft reboot, but, it works.
I will use this next time... My phone froze up this morning. I thought I was going to have to pull the battery and just as I was tapping the battery out of the phone I saw the bootlogo. When I put the battery back in my /data was gone. Phone would boot, but there was no data partition. It was toast.
Had to Odin back to stock and start all over. My last Titanium Backup is from more than a month ago. I have a Super Manager backup from ~ a week ago. Will give it a shot.
Ok, I know i cant be the only one thats done this(several times actually). I'll be laying in bed at the end of the day tired from work and having just downloaded the newest Rom, phone still plugged in to the usb, boot to recovery, full wipe, and the next thing i know my HOTT!! a$$ phone wakes me up several hours later and i realize whats going on. Surely some of you have done it too, Right?

It's happened to me before; I was really tired when I was making a backup, and it was taking a while (as backups tend to do) so I fell asleep. Ive fallin asleep. Luckily I had enough battery life so my phone didnt die lol

Someone will dissect the phone and show all the parts on a tech blog. They do it for most flagship phones.
If you don't feel like waiting, there are 4 easy steps to verify battery capacity:
1. Acquire hammer.
2. Smash phone.
3. Read battery specs.
4. Weep.

i was looking forward to that phone, until i read that. i have 2000mah batteries for my evo, and they don't last. i have 4 of them and i use 2 a day. i was so excited that the evo lte looked awesome and had all the features i wanted, until i read that. i'll be looking elsewhere now. it really ****ing sucks that they would do this. if anything, i'll wait until somebody takes it apart to see if its soldered in and possible to swap out... i'll just throw a case over the back and keep it unscrewed if its an easy swap, but otherwise i'll pass... i'm not around chargers enough to justify not being able to swap a battery. might as well get an iphone, it'll at least last longer.

Press and hold volume up, down, and power at he same time. It takes 5 or 6 seconds. You can even get to hboot if you press volume down after it shuts off the screen.
Sealed Battery
I just canceled my upgrade. Swapping out the battery is important to me. And what happens after a year when the battery just doesn't hold a charge very well. I'm disappointed with HTC and we have 4 EVOs in our house. I'll have to see what else is available now. Samsung???
It may only be the need to open the phone, and remove a flex cable, peal the battery out, it may or may not be soldered in, or in a clip. Its very simple, and with ICS and the S4 in the EVO LTE, I am not worried at all, but that's because I also fix phones all day lately.

You never know!! Gotta think positive man! And actually, I had Wimax on launch day in STL. But LTE will take longer for me this time around. I only used 4g a few times at the start(20mb/s in class), but never really even attempted to use it after the first few months as I didn't get great 4g at my place, though I probably haven't tried in about a year...
So in a couple months I'm going to upgrade my EVO.. maybe to the EVO LTE even though it doesn't have a removable battery.. I havnt read up on it much but in case of freezing, how do you shut it down or do a hard shut off? Would hate to have a frozen phone for all time until its battery dies =/
I've heard both though. some reviews on YouTube shows that it does have a removable battery. Some say otherwise. Will report on Friday (=
I think if it does freeze u can restart the phone by holding the power button and a combination of the volume up and down button or hold all three at the same time...when I had my iphone you could hold the power button and menu at the same time for like 15 sec and it would restart

The battery is NOT removable for the 1 millionth time, it is a sealed non-removable 2000mah battery. Read the spec sheet instead of watching YouTube, if you believe everything from YouTube, GW Bush is a reptilian alien, Bigfoot plays for the Lakers, the titanic never sank, 9/11 was perpetrated by a US military demolition crew. Actually most phones all you have to do is hold power for 10-20 seconds and it will turn off, even phones with removable batteries. My et4g does it you just hold power down for 15 seconds and it turns off, hold it for 20 and it reboots, hold power & volume+ for 20 seconds and it reboots to recovery and hold power & volume- for 20 seconds and it reboots to download mode
