Overclocking >806? - Optimus One, P500, V Themes and Apps

Okay, so i was browsing through the results of the Antutu benchmarking application, and I saw this guy, he had a CPU freq of 844 freq. Is that even possible? Just wondering
for reference, hes number is 887243

It is possible, within 5 or 10 minutes. As soon as the run game, the phone goes to restart (((

Overclocking the phone to even 787Mhz makes it quite unstable. That's why clock speeds above 806Mhz are not included in most kernels...but even if you do somehow overclock to 844Mhz I don't think the phone would survive for more than 15- 30 mins not to mention lots of heating up. In short-such speeds are not feasible for daily usage

If he's really hardcore, maybe he opened it up and used a fan or something.

Like the other ones written bevor me. Overclocking the O1 above 786 Mhz are like Gambling. Every CPU are a litle bit Unique, so nobody knows what kind of Frequency youre once are able to handle.
For Exemple iam running myone stable @ 320/787. But every Step Higher will be results in FCs and Reboots.
So the only way to go is to OC youre Phone step by step to find out what kind of Frequency youre CPU can handle

I once accidentally left my phone on 787mhz performance after benchmarking, and after a few days my phone crashed and would not boot into android, scared the **** out of me, but after about 10 mins it was fine, i quickly found out why this happened after. Overclocking your phone to 787mhz adds a lot of extra heat to your phone, and unless you live in a freezer or Antarctica and never keep your phone in your pockets I would not recommend over-clocking it that high.
If your new to the whole overclocking things, youtube extreme overclockers and you will realise would needs to be done to cpus to overcome the excessive heat.

[Q] SetCPU settings for Epic?

Being new to the Android world, I'm a little unsure of what my settings should be for SetCPU on my Epic.
Looking for something that would offer a good balance of battery and performance without crippling the device too much.
Thanks in advance...

I keep mine short and simple. I am using a kernel at allows for overclocking so I set the max to 1.2Ghz and the min to 200Mhz. You can play around with the scaling to see which governor works for you best. It's really up to your butt-o-meter.
Under "Profiles" I have one single profile for "Sceen Off" that keeps my EPIC at 200Mhz when the screen is off.

Your epic doesn't freeze when you do that? No matter which kernel I use, if I set it so that my phone down clocks when the screen is off it freezes. It won't unlock and the only way for me to be able to use it again is to pull the battery out and reboot.

Nope. Seems to love it. I guess my EPIC and my EVO share their love for UV + underclocking maybe they really are related
I keep my Epic 1.2 -600 , I'd recommend the Stoopid Fast Kernel as well. The phone is still quick and phone is better with battery life and a hell of a lot quicker when it comes to charging.
I have mine set to 100 Min / 1200 Max. No problems that I can tell.
MixUp kernel.
What about the advanced settings? Can somebody explain to me what they are for?
when i input my own settings it wont show the settings. it just says 1 if at max and 0 if anything else. i love the app i just dont think its really working. i'm wondering if the kernel i'm on allows it to change cpu speeds.
running suppernova build 1.5

I forgot where I read it but it was when I sold my Evo and moved to this section of the forums. I'll look around some more and see if I come up with something but I thought it was something like "Until Froyo gets officially released Set Cpu can't work with it. I bought set cpu a long time ago and didn't use it since. I'm about to throw that bad boy on though to see if it makes any difference.
It's not that SetCPU doesn't work with froyo, but the stock kernel on froyo already scales between 100mhz to 1000mhz without it. I do not have it installed and when I run a system monitor mine usually idles between 200mhz to 400mhz and ramps up whenever a notification comes in or syncing starts.
Just did a screen cap and the phone it idling at 135mhz.

G2 benchmark... numbers sucked!

Just flashed enoms g2 rom and I cleared up what I can, tried making it efficient.I ran some benchmark tests on quadrant standard and was kinda disappointed in the numbers. My bests score was low 1100 after that it was 850,900, 835... very basic stuff any suggestions???

If you ran the benchmark on battery power, try plugging the phone in. Sometimes the CPU will underclock itself to save power. If that doesn't work, download SetCPU (google it) and make sure that the max speed is set above 800 MHz.
On the stock G2 ROM I was getting 1600-1800... maybe it's the ROM your using

Using enoms cpu controls
Cpu governor: performance
Max frequency: 1,516,800
Min frequency 245,760
I dropped 3 percent in battery writing this message.... my main concern is battery and overworking the cpu.... I'm thinking about downloading set cpu and clocking the performance settings then set it for power save after a certain drop point........ does this sound logical?

When you set your cpu to performance it means your cpu will stay at max all the time and it never goes down which is why you are getting bad battery life.
There is no need for that.

Putting stock in scores is foolish though. 936 does seem a Tad bit low for sure. My set up is cm7 #36, tiamat kernel 3.3.5, JIT on, setcpu 1113 Max, 422 min smartass governor. I just ran a linpack and got 37mflops and 1200 in benchmark. This is the same set up I usually run on any rom or kernel. I try not to clock so high because it just drains battery. My evo actually can perform flawlessly clocked at even 998mhz. The only thing I notice different is that scores change and I don't really take a performance hit. Underclocking is the new overclocking lol. My last suggestion would be to play around with different kernels to achieve what you desire. Try savage zen!
Edit: just ran these 2 test just for you right now. Same results and I'm using same kernel you are.
~ d3rk
Run, it once, and then run it again right after w/out quitting. The if you run it multiple times (at least on my phone), all subsequent scores are on par with the second one which is usually 1-300 more than the first. Won't mean anything any different, but at least you might get some higher scores.
Also, you might need to try some different kernel combinations as well as different clock speeds. Mine usually does fine at 998 sometimes even at 921, but if I go too high it will start to slow things down. If you're not getting good results at 1190, try backing it off one setting at a time and see if you can get improved scores.
As far as comparing to other phones, even of the same make/model, you can't really do that. As long as they're in the same ball park, within a couple hundred, you're probably OK. Every phone reacts differently.
It also depends on the version of quadrant. You def can't compare diff phones running diff versions. I usually don't use it to compare to other phones, just diff setups on my phone. I know if I'm getting 1200 avg and then I all of the sudden flash a ROM and kernel and can't break 800 that something is probably wrong.
The most important thing is how the phone feels though. The fact that you say it feels sluggish leads me to believe you might need to try a diff kernel or see if something is eating up your CPU. Also, when you're over clocking, the min clock speed can effect your scores just as much as the max speed.
Ya give savage a go.
Kernel CPU setting:
Ondemand governor
Min 245
Max 998
My Device scores high runs smooth battery drain not a problem.
I just tested mine and got 1326. With these settings.. CM7 Nightly 36 with 2.6.37.6-Tiamat -v3.3.5 kernal.
Governor - Conservative
Min - 384
Max 1036

I know that you only use both cores when you need it but when you underclock to let's say 750Mhz or lower, the second core will go offline after a while and stay like that. If you play a game or watch a video, the second core will still stay offline and one way to find out is to go to the "Times" tab in System Tuner, and you will see that the second core has not been working at all even when you play intensive 3D games or watch HD videos. This happens only when you underclock.

I believe the second core has to work when you are playing 3d games and watching HD videos regardless of the frequency. I basically want both cores to work at 750mhz but the second always goes offline and it never comes back. Even when browsing you can feel that its slower due to the second core not working.

strange I don't have that. Maybe because I'm running gingerbread stock based Nottachtrix ROM?

Why not just use the 1.3 ghz overclock kernel and underclock to 1.0 stock?

doesn't work either. Whatever controls the max frequency goes away...gets pushed out of RAM...returns to full overclock of 1.3ghz.

[Q] UnderVolting.

Hello!
I'm interested in undervolting my nexus 4.
My primary cause is to get better battery life and reduce heat.
I use Franco Kernel.
Is undervolting -25 will be useful for my cause?
Undervolting -25 can cause problems?
I heard that if you undervolt too much your device can be damaged.
Thanks in advance to all the helpers!

You won't even notice -25, people usually undervolt -100 or more. I don't think it can damage your phone, it can only get unstable in which case you need to find stable voltages for your device (CPU).

Yes, my chip is "FAST" and I use these voltages:

I answerd with a few questions xD in the qoute ( im from the phone and it is a little bit hard to edit )

These voltages are stable on my phone. Some users use even lower voltages on their "FAST" chip.
On stock ROM I did felt that phone is not as smooth as with default voltages but on Purity ROM which I use now I don't feel huge difference.
It does reduce heat if you undervolt enough.
About chips: Basically, when Qualcomm makes the APQ8064 chip that you see in our Nexus 4, there are 4 different "types" based on how it meets their quality standards. These are Slow, Nominal, Fast, and Faster. The main difference IIRC between these types is how stable each can handle undervolting. CPUs that are "Fast" for example come pre-configured at a lower nominal voltage than a "Nominal" type CPU, and more so than a "Slow" type. (Does this account for how some people's phones generate less heat? Maybe, maybe not. IIRC, there's like only a -100mV difference between Faster and Slow out of the box, however Faster CPUs should be able to handle lower voltages than Slow-type.)

Do you recommned to me to undervolt?
I have a "Slow" cpu.
What voltages should I set (if you recommend to undervolt)?
Iwant to reduce heat and save battery.
Im using franco kernel and PA 3.99.

If you want to reduce heat and save battery than undervolt your cpu.
Set -50 or -75 and use your phone (test it) for stability.
You can always set the stock voltages if you see that your phone becomes slower and you don't like it.

Just use your phone, play games, run some benchmarks, run StabilityTest app, take some pictures and or videos as well to see if there are any artifacts etc
Check some other threads about undervolting like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155495&highlight=undervolt
Read what users report.

What app are people using to undervolt?
I'm currently using SetCPU, but somehow i don't trust it to not mess with anything else, like the governor, ect; (any chance of that happening if i don't change anything?).

Trickster looks interesting.
As a question, how come you yourself use it over a more "common" app like SetCPU?
