My 3rd Root & guide for the ultra-noob [WP7/ Android] - HD2 General

I just got my 3rd HD2 here in HK & it seems like there are a lot more here that are in very good condition. I use 3 SIM cards so i have 3 HD2 but i'll be giving them to the wife & son
I just realized how efficient WinMo6.5 was when it came to battery life, 4 days of continuous standby & there is still 3bars from the 4bars of battery indicator - will we ever have this efficiency in WP7/ Android system?

so if you just got your HTC HD2 & it's running WM6.5 & you want to run WP7 or Android or even Both, here's what I did with mine & for some of my friends. I have made this as close to what the steps I took with pictures & screen caps so that the first timer can also follow it easily. For some steps I really can't explain since some of them just came out of trial & error, please do correct any mistakes I've made, thanks
Many-many thanks to guys, dev's, chefs for making such software's & ROM's for us to continuously enjoy our HD2's. Don't forget to thank them also by hitting the Thanks button
What you will need
- USB cable from HD2 to PC(preferably connected to a UPS)
- a fully charged battery
- a Micro SD with Card reader (16gig if your going to dual boot, Card will be formatted & all files will be deleted during the process)
- MS Active Sync, HD2 Drivers which you might have already, ADB & USB drivers >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23358842&postcount=16
- HD2 NAND Toolkit - A must have!
get it here >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
- Radio 2.15.50.14 - I use this & it is mostly recommended [TMOUS user read this to avoid bricking >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=669733]
get it here >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787 or here >>> http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-2-15-50-14-radio-on-htc-hd2/
- Your choice of ROM [Android or WP7]
see them here >>> http://www.mojardroid.com/htchd2/index.php or here >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=977
Once you've downloaded the software's & ROM's needed we can proceed to root/ flash our HD2.
here's a peek at the existing spec of WM6.5 I had (most of the HD2's here are in Chinese)
IF IN DOUBT - DO NOT FLASH!
1. So first thing we need to do is to get into HD2's "bootloader mode" or the "Tri-color" screen.
- turn off your HD2 [I assume you got ALL you files/ Data on Backup already]
- hold the volume down button
- while holding the VOL. down then Press the POWER button
this is what you will see, notice the SPL version & the word "Serial" at the bottom. We need to change the SPL-1.42.0000 to SPL-2.08.HSPL
while in this mode, plug in your HD2 to the PC, noticed that the "Serial" has changed to USB.
run HD2 NAND Toolkit & hit Install HSPL 1
a screen will pop-up & noticed the SPL's needed before rooting/ flashing can be done, press Next
select 2.08.HSPL
there you go, your phone now is in SPL-2.08.HSPL
Now go back to the bootloader mode as in 1. & noticed that the SPL-2.08.HSPL is already there & is in USB, unless you've unplug it.
2. run HD2 NAND Toolkit & hit Wipe(Task29) 2
when a series of screen pops up just tick the Boxes & press next & flash
this is what you will see while flashing
& this is what it will be after Task29 - an empty shell
3. Now we need to flash the Radio 2.15.50.14 (you downloaded it right?) TMOUS users read Warnings >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=669733
open the Folder [HD2_Leo_Radio_2_15_50_14] where the Radio is & run CustomRUU
Now go back to the bootloader mode as in 1.
when a series of screen pops up just tick the Boxes & press next & update
check out the Radio Version
Alternatively you can flash Radio via HD2 NAND Toolkit
open Toolkit & select browse & point to the location of your Radio
just follow the next steps. Be Careful when flashing RADIO as it can Brick Your Phone

Now we are ready to flash magldr - a versatile bootloader for our HD2's
Now go back to the bootloader mode as in 1.
4. run HD2 NAND Toolkit & hit Install MAGLDR 4
when a series of screen pops up just tick the Boxes & press next & flash
when the phone starts it will show you the magldr bootloader
Now going down to #8 AD recovery (vol. button up/down) we see that CWM is still not there.
No Boot Sources
5. Now "I" repartition my HD2 which also places CWM into the HD2
put the HD2 in USB Flasher mode via magldr #5
now in USB Flasher mode
ticking Magldr Repartition 5 I choose 300mb 45mb cache & click repartition
a warning message will pop-up, press OK
a series of pop-up screen will appear just press next & finish
showing you the instructions w/c we just did
Booting the phone again & going into magldr & Choosing #8 AD Recovery we see CWM, the phone now is ready for either WP7 or Android.
In this Phone I will flash WP7, I choose Pdaimatejam Rom Wp7.5 Tango **This will erase CWM **
- in magldr choose #10 Services
- choose Clear SD MBR press the green key(call key) to confirm
- choose uselast24Nand press the green key(call key) to confirm
Put in USB Flasher mode option #5 in magldr
I then ran the DWI file of Pdaimatejam Rom Wp7.5 Tango
here is what you can see while flashing is going on
& there you have it
common errors that occur when there are problems with the SD card/ partition or forgetting to uselast24nand & clear SD MBR.
How To Dual Boot Windows Phone 7 And Android On HTC HD2

An In-depth Guide - What is HSPL, MAGLDR, cLK, and CWM, and how to install them.?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021837

Good guide, I do have a suggestion though. You should put a warning about not installing a 51 radio or a radio veraion lower than a 2.08.50.?? radio to a TMOUS HD2 as that is a assured way to brick a TMOUS HD2. I know you have to have a TMOUS radio for MAGLDR to even boot. But considering this is s guide for noobs you should still include this info.
Also you can use the HD2 NAND Toolkit to flash the radio if you want to you just have to browse to the location of the .nbh file for the radio and use the custom RUU built into the toolkit.
Last you do not have to flash CWM if you are going to install WP7.
Just some suggestions.

I get a [260] Error. Why is this? Was it because mine was x50 ,on the blue green white screen? and yours was x30?
Or what am i doing wrong?
Connection gets lost and I don't get the white HTC screen, rather I get the Stick Together logo by T-mobile.

@T-Macgnolia
thanks for the suggestion, yes I already thought about the TMOUS & radio last night but i was like very sleepy lol I will add that warning - thanks.
as for the HD2 NAND Toolkit to flash the radio, i'll look into that. i'm new to this also & when i first used the HD2 NAND Toolkit, it was really intimidating!

How to Run Android SD-ROMs
OK, so I wanted to try out an Android ROM but i don't want to go through all that hassle about dual booting with one SD Card & since I just want to try one out & still keep the existing WP7 in NAND I opted to go for another SD Card
what you'll Need to boot to Android SD
- another SD Card, preferably 8gig but 4gig is also OK w/ card reader
- Your Choice of SD ROM, get it Here >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735
To Do:
- after downloading the SD ROM (i choose MIUI SD for this) unzip the file on your PC then copy the whole Folder to the Root of your SD card.
my folder name is MIUIICS remember your folder name
- Turn OFF you phone & take out the SD Card that is used by WP7 & insert the SD Card from which you copied the SD ROM Android.
- Press the Power button & don't let go untill it boots into MAGLDR & then scroll down to #10 Service via the up/down Vol. Key
- Press the CALL button to get into the SERVICE MENU then select #1 BootSetting
- Press the CALL button to get into the AutoBoot Menu then scroll down to #3 AD SD Dir
- Press the CALL button to Select Directory then scroll to find your directory & then Press the CALL Button again where the Folder of the Android SD Rom is located.
- which will bring you back to the Boot Menu, scroll down to #2 Boot AD SD then press CALL button
- then you will see the ROM booting
& if all is OK the familiar MIUI GUI will appear

hi, what was your OS & is your phone TMOUS?

Android in NAND via CWM
Android in NAND via CWM
OK, so I've decided to have Andy in NAND but at the moment WP7 is in NAND! So before flashing an Android NAND we must wipe the NAND clean so that we can use the full space of the NAND which is only 512mb in our case. Tmous users have 1024mb.
*Remember to get all your Files/ notes/ message/ pictures from WP7/ other OS*
*Repartition/ Format your SD card using minitool partition or eause since WP7 formats the interior SD card with a RAID format. This is wp7 special format that allows WP7 to use and see the SD card as internal memory, not as removable storage.* Thanks T-Macgnolia
put your HD2 in bootlaoder mode (tri-color) by Holding down the Vol. Down button then press the power button.
follow the steps in:
2. run HD2 NAND Toolkit & hit Wipe(Task29) 2
**Again this will wipe/ erase WP7 & Magldr**
4. run HD2 NAND Toolkit & hit Install MAGLDR 4
**We don't need to flash Radio anymore since Task29 leaves it alone**
5. Now "I" repartition my HD2 which also places CWM into the HD2
**I choosed aokp_leo_build-40.zip to be flashed to NAND so we must check what the chefs recommended partition size**
here is the partition size table
Code:
misc ya 1M
boot yboot|ro 5M
system ya 150M
cache ya 2M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize
follow the steps in 5. but this time we will set the partition to 150m & cache to 5m(minimum for toolkit) & since this is the only option we can change in the Toolkit we can disregard the other settings.
Booting the phone again & going into magldr & Choosing #8 AD Recovery we see CWM & now we are ready to Flash "aokp_leo_build-40.zip" which should be in the Root of the SD Card. Just copy aokp_leo_build-40.zip to you SD card & do not decompress it since recovery will look for a zip file.
perform the following
- wipe data/ factory reset
...- Yes delete all user data > press the call button
- wipe cache partition
...- Yes - Wipe Cache
- advanced
... - Wipe Dalvic Cache
.... - Yes - Wipe Dalvic Cache
Press the end call button which brings you back to the main CWM.
- install zip from sdcard
...- choose zip from sdcard
.... scroll down to aokp_leo_build-40.zip > press the call button
..... - Yes - Install aokp_leo_build-40.zip
if all is OK you'll boot into Android NAND
HTH
NOTE:
after flashing this ROM I only have a total space of 256MB & an Available space of 201MB, i guess this is the cons of not having other options in Toolkit to set the desired partition. I used/ set 155MB total when i partitioned it but now i'm missing 101MB which i guess was distributed for the other partitions needed.
Also there are still a lot of options in recovery that you can do like partitioning your SD card for Ap2sd/ LinktoSD functions if the ROM supports it & off course backing up your ROM etc.

- was the phone in 2.08 HSPL when it was given to you?
- do you have the HD2 NAND Toolkit, if so try it from the Top
- try to press the RED reset button a couple of times together with the power button.
- I see that it is a Tmous phone - could it be a wrong radio flash?

Very good guide that will help a lot of newbies, good job !

here is a video of my problem.
Edit: after do a task29 my phone still in the problem and not show the empty shell whith the HTC logo on screen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAQnWUBrz80
Other symtoms.
- When i plug my phone via usb to the computer its turn on automatically and tuck on bootloader.
- If the phone are power on i cant turn off... not if i press the power bottom, so if i want to turn off the phone i need to take off the battery.

i'll be experimenting on that, but my guess is once you install magldr - clk will be overwritten, i guess no ned to task29 here unless you have existing OS that you want to clean from nand.

Some how your bootloader has become corupted, you should go to this thread and start trying each of the ROMs listed there. Do not try 2.01 as it has a non TMOUS compatible radio and WILL brick your device if you flash it to it. I recommend that you start at 2.02 and work your way down the list. When and if you find a ROM that will flash I suggest that you try flashing the 2.07 or the 2.09 ROM, if that is not the first ROM you got to flash. After you have flashed one of those ROMs you should be able to flash the 3.14.1 ROM and that will have you good to go again.

@T-Macgnolia
thanks for shedding some light on acarmons problem, i do hope he can fix his Tmous HD2.

If you have a NAND Android ROM, you have MAGLDR installed on your device.
Just go into the MAGLDR screen and flash the WP7 ROM of your choice via USB.
If you run Android from SD card, WinMo still your core OS, you first need to install some other stuff (make sure to have a correct Radio ROM, HSPL 2.08 and finally MAGLDR).
Also, for a smooth WP7 operation, please check your SD card, if it´s one of the critical ones, you might have a bad experience.
WP7 ROM on Android 2.3 Nand
Hi, I tried gettin into MAGLDR screen by
1] removing battery and scard
2] Power on with vol down
3] it shows triband
4] I connect USB to phone and pc
5] I see USB written on Phone
6] Message on bottom status bar of phone identifying the phone
7] I run the DWI.exe on the desktop, but it just keeps on searching the phone on USB. does not proceed ahead

To flash from MAGLDR screen, you should not go into the standard bootloader screen (the tricolor one), but MAGLDR itself. After turning off your device, keep holding the power button, until you get the MAGLDR screen, select option 5 (flip through with volume buttons, confirm with phone button), and there you go.

You need to install MAGDLR by following the steps above to connect to your PC. Then restart your phone while holding the POWER button, which will get you into the MAGLDR options menu. Select option 5 with volume up/down and bottom left key.
thanks guys
OMG you flash it through MAGLDR, not BOOTLOADER.
First what you have to do is check whether your MAGLDR version is 1.12 or 1.13(recommended) if you want to install WP7, if not, flash it first and then enter USB Flasher in bootloader and run DWI.exe.
Thank u friends. I did it. Installed WP7. worked fine except the live services. Too much of a pain to activate live services on HD2. Not worth the efforts. Do we have key gen or a simple process? I just needed the gtalk. Have switched back to gingerbread.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Nope, there ain´t no keygen.
My own efforts actually were minimal: I sent an email to MS support, couple of hours later I had my activation code.
Look for .xap for gtalk and sideload it... I have an activation key but since there's a limit to each key on the number of activation. I'd rather have the .xap of the apps I use then like that I can use wp7 without live services... Because I know ima be switching between os's
@OP,
Please read the sticky guides in future before asking questions, there are MANY good guides on how to do everything, all you have to do is look at the sticky threads.

[Tutorial] Flash HD2 and solve problems with Android installations

Let me give a overview how to get (almost) every Image running within cLK v1.3.3 or MagLDR 1.13.
I have had the problem that I need send my device for service and repair. When I get it back it was running on a 3.14 O2 Image with the boot loader 3.03.xx because the Service Team has done the update for me.
Great service – bad idea!!!!
I don’t know why but this causes 2 Weeks of troubles and not fully working Android Images. I was Android running before and I flashed the old O2 1.72 WinMo back to keep the warranty valid for this device.
What was the problem?
- Nearly EVERY Image was running but I was not able to connect to Internet
- Weather Update was not working
- APN Settings are not working
- Sending APN settings from Provider was possible but they were not saved
- Sometimes graphic lags and not smooth scrolling
- etc, etc…
Click to collapse
More or less small issues but from my point of view this was not acceptable. I spend more than 1 week to sort this out and I found finally the solution. I have tried to flash also back 1.72 and flashing HSPL3 from there and lot of things. Nothing was working. The listed procedure is the only solution which was working for me to get my device back to working with Android. If someone has a better solution pls. post this here.
Last night I found this way and I was only one step away to sell my device on eBay because 3G was working but no Internet access.
When I was using Windows Mobile everything was working without problems which were a confirmation that the Hardware is not broken. But on ANDROID – nothing was working. This was really incredible because I have flashed just nearly every Image beginning from January. With every Image the same result – NO INTERNET, NO UPDATE but 3G was enabled. So selling the device or modifying the device with a huge Hammer was my last option. But giving up is not my favorite option
Ok, let’s assume you will have an HTC HD2 with the latest O2 Image (RUU_Leo_S_O2_DE_3.14.207.1_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe) and the 3.03 boot loader. If you have this installed on your device you need to become a flash junkie to get ANDROID proper running on your device. I don’t know if other providers are causing the same problem but for O2 devices this will work.
If you have any troubles with ANDROID and HD2 just do it within this way and flash your device with this procedure EVEN if you have experience and if you know what CWR, cLK and MagLDR is.
All things you need are available within ONE PACKAGE at the end of this FAQ. Just download it and you have EVERYTHING you need. Read it, do it, enjoy it!
First at all:
1. REMOVE YOUR SD-CARD and copy all the things away or you will lose all data on it!!
2. Disable your PIN on the SIM Card for the first ANDROID flash. You can enable it after all is done. It’s not a MUST but I recommend this always for every time when you flash a new Image.
3. If I told you to repeat a step which was already done – this is not just for fun.
Click to collapse
O.k… now, let’s start:
1. Remove the 3.03 boot loader
REQUIREMENT: HSPL4.exe and HSPL3.exe
Your device is running on Windows Mobile 6.5 and when you check the boot loader you will see 3.03 within the display. BUT – how can you see this boot loader information? Damn easy…
For this you need to switch off your device. Keep the VOLUME-DOWN button pressed and switch on your device. When you see the RGB colored boot logo release the VOL DOWN button you will see now the famous boot loader of the HD2.
If you have the device connected to your PC you will see “USB” within the white area. If you see the “SERIAL” information just connect your USB cable to your device and PC and it will automatically switch to “USB”. If this is done, you are ready to go.
Now run HSPL4.exe and be patient. Do not run HSPL3.exe because this will not work with boot loader 3.x. After 10 or 15 seconds HSPL4 will give you an option that you are now able to flash the boot loader with 2.08 or HSPL 2.08.
NOW – it’s important, choose the 2.08 WITHOUT (!) the HSPL option.
Click to collapse
Flash it and when it’s done the reboot will automatically after it’s done. Don’t panic, this will take round about 30 to 45 seconds.
Let the device boot into Windows and get ready to run HSPL3.exe. Reboot your device and press the VOLUME-DOWN Key again. Now go on with HSLPL3.exe and flash now the HSPL 2.08.000 to your device. This will take some seconds and you should see the “…hacked…” screen on your device.
IMPORTANT:
If you just see the OK within windows and only the HTC logo on your device your device is still not hacked and not 100% ready for ANDROID.
This is the reason why you need to do it first with HSPL4.exe and then with HSPL3.exe.
Click to collapse
The “….we hacked it…” splash is the READY TO GO TO ANDROID for you.
2. DEVICE update
REQUIREMENT: RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2….exe
Your Windows Mobile is still running because Windows is not claiming about changing the boot loader of your device. Start up your device boot into your windows mobile and run the RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe to update your device.
This will update your current Windows and also the Radio firmware on your device. Just run it and wait for round about 10 or 15 Minutes until everything is done. Now you have an English Windows OS on your HD2 and the RADIO firmware is also up to date. Don’t care about if you like or dislike English OS on your device. You need this only to …hmmm… let’s say “unlock” your device. I don’t know why or what this Image will do on this device but it’s important for ANDROID to flash it.
3. Run Task29.exe
REQUIREMENT: Task29.exe
Switch off your device again and keep the VOL-DOWN button pressed again. Now you will see a lot of Numbers and also HSPL 2.08. Yeah… this is what we want to see and what we need to run ANDROID on it.
Start the Task29.exe, make your confirmations and NEXT clicks and wait. When everything is done your device will reboot and you will see the whit HTC logo and nothing will happen anymore.
This nice tools will „format“ your device and everything within the ROM will be erased. If you see this logo you are ready to prepare your device for ANDROID.
4. SD-Card and LINUX partition
REQUIREMENT: SD-Formater and MagLDR 1.3
No worry, you don’t need to GOOGLE how to do this or note down the commands to do this. You just need to flash the MagLDR 1.3 and press some keys on your device.
I recommend a SD-CARD Class6 with 8GB. 4GB is also good but from my point of view it’s the minimum you should use.
Insert the SD-Card to your PC and start the PANASONIC SD-CARD FORMAT TOOL. It’s Chinese and English mixed but you only need to start it and click on “FORMAT”. You don’t need to copy some data on it for the Recovery also known as “CWR” because you will do it within the next step by flashing the device. Unplug the card and put it back into your HD2 device.
Now go to the folder “05 – MagLDR113” and run the MagLDR113.exe in it. Follow the screen on your PC and flash MagLDR on your device.
When this is done your device will boot into MagLDR screen and you see a lot of options. No worry, you only will need Option 8 and Option 5. All others are not important for the first flash.
With the VOL-DOWN and VOL-UP you can move within this menu. Select Option 5 – USB FLASHER and go ahead on your PC within the folder 07 – DAF-FLASH.
Select the DAF.exe and go on to flash your device. With this your device will be formatted with LINUX partitions which are required for ANDROID. With this step you will also flash the RECOVERY partition on your device which is required to flash almost all the Images. More and more the Cheefs will go away from DAF Images.
With this DAF.exe you will flash a 400MB system partition. But – why is this important? This information is important because some images requires space on the device and others not.
If you download an Image which you want to flash on your device always take a look at the point where the Cheef give some information’s about the flash procedure.
Let me give a short example.
Take a look within the 07 – DAF-FLASH Folder and open the flash.cfg with a text editor. DON’T USE NOTEPAD FOR THIS!!! USE NOTEPAD++ or WORDPAD from Windows, but NOT NOTEPAD!!!
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize recovery.img
boot yboot|ro 5M
---à system ya 400M
cache ya 4M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize
Click to collapse
With my package I have add an Image which requires a 400MB system partition. If you found an Image which requires a 150MB partition than you need just change the value 400M to 150M.
Reboot your HD2 phone, keep the POWER BUTTON pressed and you will enter the MAGLDR Menu. Choose Option 5 – USB FLASHER and run the DAF.exe with the modified flash.cfg.
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize recovery.img
boot yboot|ro 5M
---à system ya 150M
cache ya 4M

Click to collapse
Your device will be prepared with a 150MB system partition, recovery will also flashed on your device and you are now ready to flash your downloaded Image.
HD2 with O2 3.14.x and Stock O2 3.03 Device Loader:
From now you can also use the MAGLDR 1.13 Boot Loader.
The cLK boot loader will not longer work with your device!!!!
I have no clue why but this is the only way to get ANDROID working after flashing this damn Image.

5. RECOVERY or CWR Mode
Recovery sounds very dangerous but it’s not true or let me say the right word. This is only a Micro Linux for your HD2 which is required for doing some nice things with your device and flash ANDROID images to your device.
With my Image a SD-CARD with a second partition is required. And how to do this? You have 2 Options.
You can download GPART from the Internet which is a linux live CD and boot your PC with this disc. GPART is a nice GUI which can format your SD-CARD but if you select the wrong disc you need to reinstall your windows.
A better option for beginners is the device intern option which is provided by the RECOVERY option.
When your device is within the MAGLDR Menu select Option 8 – AD RECOVERY and enter the Recovery Menu. You will now see these options:
- Reboot system now
- Apply update from SDCARD
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe cache partition
- Install zip from sdcard
- Backup and restore
- Mounts and storage
- Advanced…………………………………………ß
- Power off
Click to collapse
Now select “ADVANCED” and within the next Menu select “Partition SD Card”. Depends of the size of your SD-Card you can now select the “EXT SIZE”. On 8GB or 4GB Cards I recommend you select the “- 2048M” Option.
The next you can select the “Swap Size”. Please select “- 0M” because almost this is not required.
Now confirm and be patient. Depends of the speed of your card and also the size it will take up to 15 Minutes until your card is formatted. When everything is done you can now power off your device. Remove the SD-Card and plug it into your PC.
6. Flash your 1st Android
Now your SD-Card is plugged into your PC and you will see that the card is now 2GB smaller than before. This is O.K. because the second partition is now an ext3 LINUX partition which is not readable by windows. No worry, you don’t need to have access to the card.
Go to the downloaded package folder 08 – ANDROID and copy the file “efp_v2_hd2_deshd_stock.zip” on your SD-CARD. Very important!!!!
Just copy the ZIP file!! DO NOT EXTRACT THIS FILE!! Only ZIP Files are flash able Android Images.
When this is done unplug the SD-CARD from your PC and plug it back into your device. Power on your device and you will back again within the MAGLDR Menu. Choose again Option 8 – AD RECOVERY and now within the recovery menu select now:
- Reboot system now
- Apply update from SDCARD
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe cache partition
- Install zip from sdcard ………………………… ß
- Backup and restore
- Mounts and storage
- Advanced
- Power off
Click to collapse
Within the next menu select now:
- Choose zip from sdcard
Click to collapse
If you have pressed the PHONE Key you will see your file:
- Efp_v2_hd2_deshd_stock.zip
Click to collapse
Press again the PHONE Key and your Image will be flashed on your device. You will see some information’s about the Image and the text will scroll. It will take round about 5 to 10 Minutes until the Image is written to the device.
Now, when it’s done please do not reset your device!!!
Click to collapse
Power off, wait a view seconds and powers on again. The first boot of every installation will take some minutes. Please be patient again. I recommend waiting 20 minutes until you should use your device because even when you see the ANDROID login screens some additional installations and settings running within the background. When this is done, REBOOT your phone again and from now you can use your HD2 with a smooth running ANDROID on it.

Hi,
Good post.
One question please:
"Take a look within the 07 – DAF-FLASH Folder and open the flash.cfg with a text editor. DON’T USE NOTEPAD FOR THIS!!! USE NOTEPAD++ or WORDPAD from Windows, but NOT NOTEPAD!!!"
Why not NOTEPAD?
GREAT tutorial, very detailed... I have two questions. I have a t-mobile HTC HD2 witch i converted to android using Flashing Your First NAND Android Rom [For Newbs] everything works fine except sending picture message or receiving them. It brings a message that says generic network failure. I am using the T-mobile network with GSM/WCDMA auto option. Will this fix this problem? And second, will this install android to the SD card or to the phone itself? Thanks again...

Notepad might cause problems with the format of the file. Just good enough for look into some txt files but it will almost destroy linux format if you save the file.

I don't have a TMO HD2 so I can't give a feedback because of this.
But it could be that this might solve the problem. Not sure.
I still don't understand why this was happens at all. I have had the advantage that it was running before I shipped it for service. That was the reason why all the "little" issues drives me crazy. Everything was working before and after they have repaired my device just only some little things are not working.
From my point of view do a Windows Mobile installation and check if it's working to make sure the hardware is working. If this will work do the steps within this FAQ.
Let me know about your results...
thanks for your post.. learned new things
Sent from my HTC HD 2 powered by HYPERDROID
Edit:
More and more strange things happens...
I'm able to run Android with MagLDR 1.13 but if the device is installed with cLK boot loader I'm not able to connect to the Internet.
First off thanks for the guide as I know users will find it helpful, and I can tell you put alot of work into it. We need all the guides and tutorials we can get here as so many people have trouble converting their HD2 to Android. But I have a few things I want to point out to you so you can be aware of them if you are not. I mean absolutely no disrespect what so ever.

All you should have to do if you have this ROM is use HSPL 4 to flash HSPL 2.08 to your HD2 and then flash MAGLDR or cLK which ever one you want to use. Then flash either you ROM using option #5 USB Flasher of MAGLDR and the DAF for your ROM, or Clockwork Mod Recovery using option #5USB Flasher and the DAF for Clockwork Mod Recovery then your ROM via. zip file. If you wanted to use cLK just flash cLK and then manually flash either your ROM or Clockwork Mod Recovery via fastboot and the use of manual commands into command print of your computer. If you choose to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery just flash your ROM.
Remove the 3.03 boot loader
Click to collapse
You don't really remove the bootloader as the bootloader is made up of a IPL and a SPL. The SPL can be modified, so when you flash HSPL or a different SPL all you are doing is modifying the SPL or changing the SPL. If you removed the bootloader you would brick your HD2.
REQUIREMENT: HSPL4.exe and HSPL3.exe
Click to collapse
Why HSPL 4 and HSPL 3? Why not just HSPL 4 as it has all the SPL versions except the SPL 3.10.0000 and it has all of the HSPL versions also.
Now run HSPL4.exe and be patient. Do not run HSPL3.exe because this will not work with boot loader 3.x. After 10 or 15 seconds HSPL4 will give you an option that you are now able to flash the boot loader with 2.08 or HSPL 2.08.
Click to collapse
You are correct that HSPL will not work with SPL 3.03.0000 or 3.10.0000 but HSPL 4 does.
Now go on with HSLPL3.exe and flash now the HSPL 2.08.000 to your device.
Click to collapse
Again you can use HSPL 4 to flash HSPL 2.08. Also only SPL has the four zeros, HSPL does not.
Your Windows Mobile is still running because Windows is not claiming about changing the boot loader of your device. Start up your device boot into your windows mobile and run the [ COLOR]RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe to update your device.
Click to collapse
Ok this step is not needed. The only thing that is needed from this step is the 2.15.50.14 radio as MAGLDR has to have a 2.10.50.02 or 2.15.50.14 radio to work. So maybe this answers your question about you not knowing why.
When everything is done your device will reboot and you will see the whit HTC logo
and nothing will happen anymore.
This nice tools will „format“ your device and everything within the ROM will be erased. If you see this logo you are ready to prepare your device for ANDROID.
Click to collapse
Yes it is a good idea to run a Task 29 before installing MAGLDR or cLK. This tool wipes the current ROM and reformats the ROM partition of the NAND memory.
There is a few other things that you I see too such as you used the " Efp_v2_hd2_deshd_stock.zip" in your guide bit that is the name ofcthe ROM you used will not be the name of another ROM that someone else might use. SO you should just tell them to look forcthecnamecof the .zip file they downloadedcand copied to their SD card.
Also MAGLDR and cLK are both custom bootloaders madecto allow us HD2 owner to be abalecto boot Android from NAND. MAGLDR allowscus to boot Android and WP7 were as cLK only allows us to boot Android. Both of these bootloaders run I'm susseson of the original WinCe based bootloader that comes on the HD2 therefore theycarecstored in the ROM partition of the NAND memory. This is why you can not have MAGLDR and cLK at the same time because they both are stored in the same place.
Hope this helped you understand a little better. And again I mean no disrespect catcalled toward you, just trying to inform you is all.
Cheers

remove windows phone 7

I just bought an HD2 with windows phone 7 already installed. The guy i bought it from said that the phone came like that from the previous owner.
From what I can tell, windows phone 7 has been flashed to the nand/internal memory.
Can someone point me in the direction of where to look to remove this OS so that I can install the other wonderful Rom's developed for the HD2 (android, meego, etc)?
I've been looking around but i'm a little lost.
Thanks!
Personally i would seriously consider taking the HD2 back to its stock defaults and then work forward, the problem of using someone elses work is that you dont actually learn anything, which is what this commuinity is all about
So if you want my advice do an SD card flash of a stock ROM for your device
first things first, go to HTCs website
http://www.htc.com/europe/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=297&act=sd&cat=all
grab yourself a stock ROM (if you have a 1024MB version of the HD2 then be careful!)
extract the file you downloaded, use winrar or 7zip
- Take the "RUU_signed.nbh" and copy it to a blank SD card .
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- put that SD card in the HD2
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
- Follow directions
that should perform an SD card flash, meaning it will remove absolutely everything and start from scratch, ie Windows Mobile
you can then decide what you want to install and go from there
as a rule the process is HSPL>RADIO>(MAGLDR)>ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914924
has some general guides
but as a rule you should really just do to the thread of your chosen OS, that should have some stickys on how to do things and dont forget the wiki!
Thanks for your reply!

nope!
your holding down the power button arent you?
take out the battery
hold the vol DOWN key
put the battery in (keep holding down vol down)
then "tap" power button (push and let go) the phone will vibrate a bit
keep holding down the vol down key until the tri colour screen comes on, if you copied the .nbh file and renamed it too your SD card it "should" allow you to install it
i tried it to it stays on red green blue white serial.
i have installed win7 but want to loose it

yea...so once when you are on the 3 color screen why dont you simply go ahead connect your USB and flash a custom ROM ???
or if you want stock...copy the .nbh file in your SD Card...and the flashing will start automatically...get it ???
Whats your reason for wasnting to remove WP7?
I personally think its better than most roms, and a about tied with the energy rom.
try flashing Yukis V5 and you might prefer WP7
no connection

[Guide] Install cLK, cLK 1.5, CWM and a NAND rom

Post 1 How-to install cLK and CWM using HD2 Toolkit.
Post 2 How-to install a rom using CWM
Post 3 How-to install cLK 1.5
Post 4 How-to uninstall HSPl (For warranty issues)
Okay, you asked for it so here it is! Complete! Magldr & Clk! I have built a website centered around my current rom development. And because of lack of space my entire guide is located there as well.
I have added a Magldr guide!
If your USB is broken (good luck charging your phone) BUT DO NOT WORRY!!!!
This guide also covers how to flash rom WITHOUT USB!!!!
Post 3 part 2 (the 2nd way) describes how to install cLK and CWM WITHOUT USB
This is also the most up-to-date cLK version, it has many nice features but it is not yet integrated in HD2 Toolkit and I want this guide to be simple.
How-to Install cLK using HD2 Toolkit and CWM
Note:
CWM stands for Clockwork Mod. CWM is the method of choice for developers to program roms for. CWM supports both MAGLDR and cLK. I am considering writting a MAGLDR guide, but I have not yet. cLK is my preferance and I want this guide to be the best it can be before starting something new.
I know has been posted before, I will use this as a question and answer thread!
I am going to begin from the very beginning.
HSPL Needs to be installed to complete this process.
BACK UP ALL DATA!!!! It will be lost during this process!
First you must choose a rom you want to try.
Here is a link to list of roms currently in development here on XDA. (Thanks yz.hd )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19138750#post19138750
The rom is very important in this process, for mostly one reason. When cLK is flashed their is no way to change the partition size except to reflash it again. this is a lot of trouble so we want to get this right the first time.
Different roms have different size requirements. Each developer will post the size requirements within the first few posts of their rom thread.
The sizes are normally posted in one of two different formats.
The post will say something about partition size:
And then be either 5/220/5 or 220/5
The first format (5/220/5) stands for this:
(CWM size = 5MB/System size = 220MB/Cache size = 5MB)
The second format (220/5) stands for this:
(System size = 220Mb/Cache size = 5MB)
Now the system and the cache size are the only thing needed. The CWM size stays the same.
When you pick the rom you want to use, write down these numbers so that later when you begin flashing your phone you will know what option to pick.
Once you have decided on a rom that you like then you need to download and install the HD2 Toolkit program. ( Thanks ksubedi )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
Once HD2 Toolkit is installed open the program.
Before continuing a 50% phone battery is required!
Click the Download Drivers icon in the lower right corner.
Download the drivers, and unzip them to the desktop.
These will come in later.
Okay, now you are ready to start.
Before we can install a rom, we have to have a bootloader. But before we can install a bootloader, we have to install HSPL.
HSPL basically roots your phone, it allows the use of custom software.
Step 1. Power off your phone.
Step 2. Hold the Volume Down Button and press the End (red) key once.
Continue holding until a multi colored screen appears.

Step 3. Plug in your USB cord to your phone. At the bottom of your Phone it should say SERIAL until your USB is connected. Once USB is connected it should say USB at the bottom.
Step 4. Click Install HSPL at the bottom right hand of the screen. Make sure to install HSPL 2.08 Just follow the steps, and make sure your device meets the requirements before preceeding. (50% battery, anti-viruse disabled, etc)
Step 5. Click the Wipe(Task29) button, right corner, and follow through the steps.
Task 29 Wipes all data off of phone!!
Step 6. Once the wipe(task29) has finished, your phone will be partially booted. Now we need to power down, so pull out the battery, and unplug the USB.
Step 7. Replace the battery.
Step 8. Now again we need the tri-colored screen. So hold volume down and press the end (red) key
Step 9. Once the tri-colored screen appears, let off the buttons and replug the USB cord.
Step 10. On the HD2 Toolkit up at the top click cLK Repartition.
Step 11. One the right there is a column that says Choose System Partition Size (cLK) click what size you want.
Step 12. Below the column is the cache size, there are two options. Pick one. I usually use 5.
Step 13. Now you are ready to install cLK. On the left bottom side of HD2 Toolkit it says Functions, with a few options. Click repartition, and go through the steps on the screen.
Once this is completed your phone will boot into cLK.
Windows 7 computers do not come with this interface installed, and the driver isn't located on Windows update.
Your computer should bring up an option to install Drivers. When it prompts you, locate the google adb drivers on your Desktop. This should install fastboot so that your Phone works.
If you have problems with Windows 7 recognizing the device now that it's booted, try this HERE
Step 14. Once the drivers are installed. The phone (when connected via USB) should say Fastboot: Processing Commands
Step 15. At the top of HD2 Toolkit click the cLK Install Recovery
Step 16. At the bottom of HD2 Toolkit where it says Functions, it will now say install. Click install.
Step 17. When a Radio box appears say there are two methods of installing cLK. Click yes you are in Fastboot mode.
Step 18. A command prompt box will appear. Just hit enter each time an option is given (three times.)
Step 19. After the third time you hit enter, your phone will begin rebooting.
Press and hold the home key when your phone begins to turn on. After about two seconds CWM Recovery will appear Congratulations CWM is installed!
How to install a rom using CWM
How to install a NAND rom by Clockwork Mod (CWM)
Definition:
NAND- Nand is internal phone memory.

Okay, Almost done! cLk and Recovery are both installed!! This is the easy part now!
Earlier, you picked out a rom you wanted to try. Download it and save it to a convenient place. Do not unzip the rom!
Step 1. Turn your phone on, and hold down the home key so that your HD2 boots into CWM.
Step 2. Once your phone has booted into CWM, press the volume down so that mounts and storage is highlighted. Then press the green call button. (This selects what option you want.)
Step 3. Press Volume Down again to select Format SD Card, then select. (Green call button.)
Step 4. Once the SD card is formatted, plug in your USB cord.
Step 5. Press volume down and select Mount USB Storage.
Step 6. Transfer the rom you previously downloaded to your phone SD card.
Step 7. Safely remove USB drive from your computer.
Step 8. Select unmount on your phone.
Step 9. Press back to return to the main menu.
Step 10. Select install zip from SD card.
Step 11. Select choose zip from SD card.
Step 12. At this point select the rom you chose to install.
Step 13. Confirm install.
Step 14. Wait. The rom you chose is installing.
Step 15. Once the rom is installed, press back.
After pressing the back button, the main menu will appear. Select reboot system now.
Step 16. Your system is now booting up for the first time. Give it plenty of time to start up. This can take around 10 minutes, just be patient.
Step 17. Once your system has started and has booted up to the start screen, go through the directions.
Step 18. When you have completed the first boot up process, and have gone through the options when your phone first boots, hold down the end key and shutdown your phone.
Step 19. When your phone has completely shut down, press the end key to turn back on.
Step 20. When your phone turns on to the lockscreen, ENJOY!!
Note: I will add more pictures soon!
cLk Version 1.5
cLK V1.5 More Advanced Users
Note: cLK V1.5 is newer than cLK 1.6.5 DE, I know its confusing, but cLK V1.5 is the best out right now.
cLK 1.5 includes
-Flashlight
-Ability to resize partitions without computer
-Recovery
-Other things as well
There is a newer version of cLK that has not yet been updated in the HD2 Toolkit. This new version can be installed two different ways.
It can be downloaded from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1114053
1 Way. It can be flashed with HD2 toolkit. (Probably the safest)
2 Way. It can be stored on the root of your sd card and then installed by pressing Volume Down + End. (The benefit is a USB connection is not needed for this method, but more chance of bricking your device although still very slim)
If your USB port is broken, follow the 2nd way posted below!
1st Way. I will be using HD2 Toolkit.
Step 1. Download the attached Leoimg file.
Step 2. Unzip file to someplace convenient.
Step 3. Open HD2 Toolkit.
Step 4. Shutdown phone.
Step 5. Press volume down + end key and hold until tri-colored screen appears.
Step 6. Task 29 on HD2 toolkit.
Step 7. On bottom left of HD2 toolkit theirs an option to install custom ruu, click browse.

Thank you. I know that their are several. I want to contribute to this device and forum because without these two things my phone would be junk.. I don't know how to develop yet (I've been playing around with the kitchen some.. but I am a long way from an actual rom.) But basically i have been reading and trying to help on the question answer forum and I've noticed a lot of people have problems with initally installing Android. I'm not sure if they don't search or what but I wanted to write a fail proof guide. And then when I see someone needing help I can just link them to my guide and hopefully that will answer all questions. I've also found some people having trouble with some steps in other guides. I just want to help out where I can. I'm still working on this though. I'm trying to add lots of pictures, and I'm going to include MAGLDR(I think) and how to install via CWM.
What do I have to do when my HSPL is 3.03.0000? Because the HD2 Toolkit can't work with it now?
I would uninstall it and then reinstall 2.08
You can install hspl by flashing an official rom (win mobile 6.5) you flash this by putting the leoimg.nbh file on the root of your SD card and pressing volume down + end keys. Once installed theirs really not any need to boot windows just shut down the phone again and start at step 1.

I'm not sure if hspl 3.03 is compatible or not 2.08 is recommended.

It did work! I got to step 13, so the problem with hspl is over.
But as I said, I got stuck at step 13. Normally I should have the phone booted in cLK with a black screen, and then select the drivers. But mine HD2 doesn't do that. When it boots, it boots partially. I got a white schreen with in green letters HTC. This screen stays, and doesn't change at all.
Is there something I did wrong?
Okay, you need to remove your battery . Then replace it.
After you replace the battery hold volume down + end key. To enter tri color screen.
Plug up your USB cord and now flash clk

I did de flash with cLK version 1.4.0.1 with cLK size of 100MB and 5 mb cache.
The flash went well according to the message of the toolkit. (It was done in approximately 20 seconds.
It finishes with the stituation I started with; white screen with green HTC.

[Q] Can't get the Rom update utility to work

Hi,
I want to instal WP7 on my HTC HD2.
In the tutorial i use i should use the Rom update utility to get MAGLDR on my phone.
When i try to use this utility i don't get further than 0% and after some time i get a error (error 626)
What i did is:
- I reseted my HTC HD2.
- I started the Rom update utility. It says that i need a update from 1.66.404.1 to 2.00.000.0.
- So when i start this it will restart my phone and show me a progres bar.
This will stay on 0% and after 10 minutes the utility gives me a message that says:
You connection is lost(error 626). Than i need to "recover" my phone by taking the battery out and put in in again.
When i do this it wel restart my phone with the WM6.5 so nothing happend.
I tryed the following things:
- A different usb cable and usb port.
- redownload the Rom Update Utility from this site.
- Hard reset my phone.
Nothing happend a still geth the same error.
Does someone know how to fix this?
Or is there a defferent way to install WP7 on my HTC HD2.
Thanks,
Maarten
read tutorial from my signature
I will try that thanks.
I finished step 0.5 and 1.
But when I am at the line "When phone boot in MAGLDR use:"
I get stuck.
The MAGLDR is installed but when the phone restart i get stuck on the white HTC screen.
Any clou what i should do next?
if not boot, press and hold power button to start magldr....
I tryed it but it wont do anything else than go to the white boot sreen with the Green HTC logo.
I tryed to press the power button for a long time and while he is booting.
Butt notting more than te boot screen shows.
The only way to start the phone again is to remove the battery.
I can get in the "red-green-blue-white screen"
I already tryed to reinstall the magldr. But no luck.
And what do you meen with "in not boot"?
The only thing it does do is boot to this logo and that's it. So its always booting when i turn it on...
"if not boot to magldr"
which HSPL you have installed on device?
try install WM6.5 first then install magldr....
first time when phone boot after magldr flashed, must boot to magldr automatically
I have HSPL2.08
It doesn't start the magldr automatically.
Even if i hold the power button. It just starting with a white boot screen with HTC logo.
Don't know how to install wm6.5 again.
Please help. I would like to use my phone tomorow again.
Edit:
Maybe it's bricked...
boot to threecolor screen and flash WM6.5
Ok I flash back to WM6.5
What to do now?
Follow the instructions again i asume.
Anyway many thanks for your help!!!
yes, after flash, install magldr and continue...
Ok I flashed my phone back to WM6.5
This is working again.
After that I installed the magldr but it doesn't load anything after that.
It says the flash went correct but when the phone reboots it goes to the white htc boot logo. And thats it.
Even if i start the phone with the power button on it doesn't go to the magldr.
Did i install the right one?
I installed the MAGLDR113_DAF
After that i tryed to flash the rom to WP7.5 but is says that the phone is not connected.
Don't know what to do anymore.
you cant flash WP7 without magldr menu (setting options and enable USB flasher in magldr)...
yes this magldr is ok...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893618

I used the manual from dxdy:
STEP 0.5 - from same beginning, WP7 never or not installed on phone
- If needed (if Android NAND installed, or if any error during flash
process, erase NAND with Task29). Flashing WM6.5 not needed.
- if you have SIM locked phone and want unlock with code, you can this only in WM6.5
- insert formatted microSD card to FAT32 in phone
- flash radio if you want (if flash version available) or use radio upgrade during ROM flashing (put radio file
part00.bin in data.zip file before ROM flash)
STEP 1. - when HSPL and/or MAGLDR not installed
- Flash HSPL 2.08 if needed (put device in bootloader before Flash:
press and hold Volume down + Power button)
- Flash MAGLDR 1.13 (put device in bootloader before Flash:
press and hold Volume down + Power button)

- I didn't erease the NAND with Task29 because i don't have android installed.
But after the last step it wont go in to the MAGLDR.
- I didn't Flash the Radio. Is this needed?
Where can i find the radio version that is installed? Or does it need to be a tweakt version from this forum?

you should do task29 whether you have android or not....between flashes even if wp7. task29 cleans out the memory area where the OS will reside.
as for the radio...radio thread for the TMOUS radio is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111613
more than likely you shouldn't have to flash a radio, but it won't hurt. only have to do it once.
in order to use the rom flash utility...you have to go into magdlr main screen...scroll down to and select 10. Services, then select 5. CleanMBR, and then 4. Uselast24NAND. Finally, back at the main set of options select 5. USB Flash.
Then you kick off your DWI.exe in admin mode.
