Hey guys,
I´ve got back my stolen DesireZ (thanx to Theftaware) and want it to bring up-to-date to the same level my other DesireZ is. Since it is already prem rooted with S-OFF SHIP putting on it Andromadus Audacity was no problem. I also want to update radio, but with S-OFF SHIP only it´s impossible to flash. I would need a step up to S-OFF ENG (engineering).
Is there a simple and fast way without installing the dev suite for having the ADB command? Thank you, in advance!

I don't think there is a way to flash that partition without adb. You might be able to do it with a series of commands through terminal emulator but I doubt it. Someone a bit wiser in these things would have to chime in

Pretty sure you can update the radio without eng hboot, just get the PC10IMG's from the official radio thread and flash them through hboot.
Otherwise, it should be possible to dd the eng hboot in, it is quite risky though. One mistype will mean a bricked phone.
Though if you really don't want to bother with adb, get gfree, and the correct eng hboot, and run
./gfree -b hboot-eng.img
from terminal (you'll have to cd to the right place, chmod and all that jazz first)
then triple check the md5sums to make sure you havn't killed anything before rebooting.
-Nipqer
In fact in SHIP mode only the last original radio for my DesireZ is possible, not the lastest radio of all. So I need ENG mode to do it. But I see I have no choice and will install ADB again. Thanx guys for your help!

I have a HTC desire hd I want want to change rom to android revolution hd, I followed all the possible tutorials here, and I got all done until the recovery mode. I installed Rom Manager and the ClockWork Mod, but I cant get into recovery mode, i get the phone and the ! sign all the time, i reinstalled clockwork mod and reinstalled the rom manager, and nothing, all the time this problem.
I got permanroot with visionary, and it works.
Please help.
Thanks
Do you have S-OFF?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
i tried to do it, but i find some many guides about that, and i read that this can brick my dhd, so I didnt do it.
is it necessary?
Yep, you need it. Use my radio S-OFF tool, it is easy as pie. Nobody has bricked a DHD using my tool yet, the possibility of bricking is basically zero. You can find a link in my signature.
and how do i check that i have s-off??
i have done this s-off, but my phone is on the initial booting logo, htc and after the vodafone animation, and it is going over and over again.
thanks people for help. i had this that press vol - and power and you get into advance settings, then factory reset, then again root, and now is working.
thanks
solved
check my guide. regarding the ! sign, did you use "Flash clockworkmod recovery" BEFORE tapping on "reboot into recovery"?
I had that problem too but then I did s-off and clockworkmod worked. Now I need radio s-off , and I need help with choosing right radio to flash.

You need to have the radio which comes with the 1.32 you have installed.
Then use the Easy Radio tool v2.2 to make the Radio S-Off
Then you can flash the radio you need (the recommended one for the rom you are going to install) using fastboot (some tutorials there).
Hy, need some help please!
I rooted my phone, and do the s-off, and install custom rom. but what is eng s-off?
when I go to boot i have " ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF"
Do I have to make eng s-off or what or can I use my phone like that?
tnx
I'm sure if you have a little look on the forums you'll get the answer you're looking for...

ENG S-OFF is not essential, unless you want to flash a new radio although it is recommended to have it. Look in the Dev section, there is a very good tool to use.
Here's the story. Got my original G2, played with it, rooted, s-off, the works. Needed to send it in for a warranty exchange so I unroot, s-on, etc etc, and put gingerbread on it. So I had the pc10img file on my sdcard.
Fast forward, I got my replacement G2, it had Froyo, had it rooted, s-off, the works before the battery was even finished charged (I waited for it to finish before I rebooted of course!) and I loaded up the official MIUI. usb tethering wasn't working so I figured I would download and flash a pershoot kernel! That "bricked" it. Wouldn't boot at all! So I booted it in to recovery (vol down + pwr) forgetting that the official gingerbread pc10img was on the sdcard. I was out and about so I just needed my phone back ASAP, so I went ahead and flashed it. So now I have stock gingerbread, with S-OFF and no way to get root. Is there another pc10img I can flash that is pre-rooted, or am I SOL til someone figures out how to root the latest update?
I'm gonna try gingerbreak after posting since I DO have s-off still...

To my knowledge there is still no temporary exploit for gingerbread that you would need to gain permanent root, sorry. It looks like you might be sol, but since you do have s-off try some of the other exploits like psneuter or gfree and post back. I would be very intrested if the hboot was somehow responsible for keeping the gingerbread g2's from getting root

I'm unsure if HTCs .zip includes a HBOOT update or not...but can you enter HBOOT (power+vol down) and check if it says SHIP S-OFF or ENG S-OFF?
I think that, since you're S-OFF, you'll be able to apply any PC10IMG.zip since it won't check signatures/versions - can someone correct me on this if I'm wrong?

It says SHIP S-OFF. And I was also thinking that since it is S-OFF that I could flash a PC10IMG that was already rooted, but seems almost all roms these days are only clockwork flashable.

SUCCESS!
Back to semi-square one anyway.
I was able to successfully flash the shipped rom as a PC10IMG which I got here (http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision) and I'm going to say that this is most likely because I am radio s-off.

It is because u were s-off. That was my configuration also so if I flash that official gb PC10IMG I'm still s-off but unrooted. To reroot I simply flash the 1.19 PC10IMG, let it get the 1.22 OTA if I feel like it then psneuter/gfree it all over again.
PS - to anyone else... don't even bother with gingerbreak for that official gb

I would put anything with root on it, just to get cwm. Than do as you normally would. As you may know, things are far easier through recovery.
::edit:: you should be able to find a custom built pc10img zip thingy, somewhere on these forums or from someone.
I'm sure you can easily make your own, and it should work.
Goodluck.

Posting this to get it out in the community for anyone who wants it. This is the shipping hboot 1.04 patched to give s-off identical to the current ENG hboot everyone is using as well as including the ENG commands and fastboot flash/erase support. Obviously if you have a perfectly running device there might be no reason to flash this. For those who are yet to flash a hboot you might choose this instead since it's newer and we don't know what flaws could have been fixed from the older ENG release.
This will likely accompany our official root release for the device when we finish it.
I have tested this to be working on my phone, as well as another developers device so it should be safe. You however take full responsibility for anything that goes wrong with this flash as with any aftermarket mod.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
For those not aware, the thunderbolt is not a true s-off device. The ENG hboot or this patched hboot give you fake s-off while the radio is screaming s-on... This doesn't mean much, but DO NOT flash a hboot that isn't patched or you'll be stuck.
UPDATE 8/1/2011: This has been updated to now block normal hboot flashing to make it much safer. It's still wise to not arbitrarily flash things but you should rest a little more at ease now.
Thread update (not a new version):
Here is the commands to re-flash hboot after installing this:
"fastboot oem mw 8d08ac54 1 31302E30"
"fastboot flash hboot whateverhbootfile.nb0"
where whateverhbootfile.nb0 is in your path, you can get this file by unzipping the PG05IMG.zip with a hboot in it
(BE CAREFUL WITH THIS, YOUR PHONE WILL FLASH TETRIS.EXE AS A BOOTLOADER IF YOU ASK IT TO)
Enjoy.
Sweet thanks

Thank you sir, I shall try this soon.
This is not newer than the ENG, its actually the same version number. The ENG one came from a 1.12.605.6 eng ruu (same as shipping)
Will this block hboot flashing like the alpharevx one (please say yes)

Ah, I guess I was under the impression it was older from what I was told. Regardless I never ran that one. Currently it doesnt block hboot flash, but I'll look into that patch next. I guess we'd want to block hboot from zip files but not from fastboot flash in order to protect soff while still having a way to return to stock.

I ended up not releasing the older one, as I had both (im not sure if joshua was given both or not).
Once you add blocking hboot flash (artificially high version number does it i think??) would it be ok to place in my guide until (if/when) yall release a package? (I intend to remove mine once a reliable "auto" is out).
Flashed for fun and it works great.
Having another method of root may not mean much to Tbolt owners now but it will once devices start shipping with GB.
Great to have you guys working on this.
so this a a way to root in the future for GB owners? just want to make sure so i dont flash if i dont need to because i am already rooted

Ok, updated main post with new updated hboot. Now patched to block normal hboot flashes which should make it a lot safer. To test, flash the update, then try flashing it again. The second one should not take.
yes! thank you kind sir. so,if im understanding correctly,it will prevent the flash of any other hboot, including the original engineering one?

Correct. I figure eventually someone might need to flash back to a original and ill eventually toss up instructions how to do this. For now, this should block everything we've seen for the device to date.
Is revolutionary working on root for the thunderbolt? Will it give us true s-off?
from the first post,no it will not give us true s-off. im running it now, tried flashing the stock s-on hboot and the old eng hboot and it blocked them both
next question: if one installed a stock recovery, and accepted an OTA... would this prevent hboot from being overwritten there as well?
Yes it should always block hboot unless they do something purposeful to overcome the block method. I'll post a command in the first post sometime next week that will allow you to overwrite hboot should you want to.
Is there already a tool for Rooting the HTC Magic automatically?
I'm looking at making a tool that will do everything needed to get HTC Magic rooting with minimal knowledge needed by the user.
This was my first Android Phone and I rooted it no problems the 2nd time around. My first attempt resulted in a hard brick. I was lucky and the phone was replaced. My second attempt went better and I was able to sucessfully root, install Amon_RA recovery, flash Eng SPL, Custom ROM.
I was hoping to help make the process a little more "foolproof" for first timers.
I searched the forums here and have yet to find such a tool.
With help and suggestions I would like to make this program support multiple phone models both HTC and beyond.
Superoneclick. Roots in... well... one click
superoneclick seems to work pretty well, not sure if there others like it.
Yeah. SuperOneClick is the best and easy.
SuperOneClick is good for rooting but it doesn't flash an Engineering SPL or ROM.

Pretty much. Just trying to figure out how to get it to detect the phone type as well. Once I can get that I can make it useful for a broad range of phones.

Good idea. But I also want it to be able to detect the phone type to ensure someone isn't trying to flash the wrong things. Would hate to see brick posts because someone tried to flash the recovery for the wrong phone.

In theory there are following differences between types:
Magic 32A: hboot 1.33.xxxx / radio 3.22.xx.xx OR hboot: 1.76.xxxx / radio 6.35.xx.xx; MID: SAPPxxxxx
Magic 32B / MT3G: hboot 1.33.xxxx / radio 2.22.xx.xx; MID: SAPPxxxxx
MT3G v1.2: hboot 1.33.xxxx / radio 2.22.xx.xx; MID: SAPP31000 (only); 3.5" audiojack
You can query hboot, radio and modeild from fastboot commands:
Code:
fastboot getvar version-bootloader
fastboot getvar version-baseband
fastboot getvar modelid
But it is not enough. In some cases there are exceptions like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23595971&postcount=1
User wrote about Magic 32B, but device changed to 32A via inappropriate radio
Just note: it is a "brick" (half or full). If phone has 1.33.xxxx hboot, then it can not have radio 6.35.xx.xx - it will not work normally.
Case #2 - modelid can return sapp*****

Hi Gents,
Before I get flamed, have been on XDA for with a HD2 for a while so bear with me - I have purchased a Mytouch and it has come with S-off but no root have tried pushing CWR via adb but comes back not reading the img - also came with 2.3.4 update S-off is ther a way I can flash a rom thats rooted to get Su permission ??
I am on H-boot .89
Any help would be great.
Thx
Stickies and INDEX are a great help.
Some basic reading is expected.
Thank Jack_R1 used to say the same myself I think re downgrade and start from scratch ... eeek and this one has a bad chipset -
No need to re-downgrade. If you got S-OFF - you're good.
Now flash engineering bootloader (0.85) by PD15IMG.ZIP way (search the guides for it) and use fastboot for flashing recovery.
This should guide you enough.
Thanks mate appreciate the help
Edit: have done your suggested but i am getting a Cid error ??
Means you probably don't have MT4G, but HTC Panache.
Look up a thread named "Videotron/Mobilicity Panache thread". There are instructions for making goldcard.
Actually, what it could also mean is that your phone was S-OFF-ed by XTC Clip and not by gfree, which means you're still not SuperCID. You might want to downgrade to Froyo and run gfree for SuperCID only.
