Help Required - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Gents,
Before I get flamed, have been on XDA for with a HD2 for a while so bear with me - I have purchased a Mytouch and it has come with S-off but no root have tried pushing CWR via adb but comes back not reading the img - also came with 2.3.4 update S-off is ther a way I can flash a rom thats rooted to get Su permission ??
I am on H-boot .89
Any help would be great.
Thx

Stickies and INDEX are a great help.
Some basic reading is expected.

Thank Jack_R1 used to say the same myself I think re downgrade and start from scratch ... eeek and this one has a bad chipset -

No need to re-downgrade. If you got S-OFF - you're good.
Now flash engineering bootloader (0.85) by PD15IMG.ZIP way (search the guides for it) and use fastboot for flashing recovery.
This should guide you enough.

Thanks mate appreciate the help
Edit: have done your suggested but i am getting a Cid error ??

Means you probably don't have MT4G, but HTC Panache.
Look up a thread named "Videotron/Mobilicity Panache thread". There are instructions for making goldcard.
Actually, what it could also mean is that your phone was S-OFF-ed by XTC Clip and not by gfree, which means you're still not SuperCID. You might want to downgrade to Froyo and run gfree for SuperCID only.

need help rooting a 32B Mytouch 3g

i was reading instructions on how to root but i belive its more difficult to root a 32b version. can someone show me the easiest way to root a 32b mytouch?
thank you so much.
Check out the Cyanogen wiki for instructions to flash his rom on your Mytouch, the instructions are simple. Yes, you also get root access.
when i attempt to flash to the sappimg i get an error saying "Main version is older"
and in the cyan wiki it says the goldcard method does not work.
im having the same problem...i never had these many problems rooting a phone . I have a g1 that i rotted flawlessly. not only did i hear the gold card method doesn't work but it also is very complicated. Im stuck! I really wish the one click root method work for the 1.6
Pvt 32b
hboot 1.33.0007 sapp3000
cpld10
radio 2.22.19.26i
when i had my g1 rooting was easy, this is a nightmare.
I think you have to downgrade to 1.5 to root. That's what I did. Good luck!
Also as mentioned before, check out the cyanogenmod wiki. It gives a very detailed instructions list to help you out.
downgrading to 1.5 is the problem we CANT!!!!

ARE WE THE ONLY TWO THAT GET THIS?!!!?
I think the only way is either suck it up and use the goldcard method or wait until flashrec updates the apk. we're screwed!
I had this message when I rooted my 32b device yesterday so I followed the gold card option and everything worked without a hitch.
I was told it didnt work in Windows 7 but it worked fine on my xp pc.
Happy to help if you have questions.
Cheers
Dave
Guess its a 32B problem, im able to downgrade to 1.5 but them im getting an error when im trying to use Flash Recover to back up my files.

this video helped me root it by downgrading. If this doesn't work, I don't know..

Are you following this steps form the cyanogen wiki?
h t t p ://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_MT3G/Magic_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
I had the problem with flash recovery when I was running it under 1.6. Once I downgraded back to 1.5, it works fine without a hitch. Flashrec version: flashrec-20090815.apk.
same error message
I'm getting the same error message. I have previously rooted around 10 mytouch phones without problems, but using the same procedure now is giving me that error. It looks like the Hboot software has been updated on any newer phones and is having an issue with updating (or backdating, I suppose) to 1.5
If anyone has a work around I would love to know it.
The old version of Hboot that used to work is HBOOT-1.33.0006
The new version, which is not working, is HBOOT-1.33.0007
Anyone know of a way to backdate the HBOOT software?
WTF....
This phone is impossible to root (over acting, but pissed off) I've tried everything I've read online...I was able to build a goldcard from unlockr's web page, and when installing the sappimg file the damn phone still doesn't want to give up the 1.6....there has got to be something or someone out there that has encountered this bullchip and fixed it
I have a 32B mytouch. did you try unrooting first, before rooting? Just a thought bc i had to do it before rooting, and i had never rooted my phone before that.
do i have root???
HBoot - 1.33.0006 (SAPP 30000)
CPLD - 10
Radio - 2.22.19.261
As i search the forum, i realized that i have "perfected SPL"...that would require me to go through "goldcard" method. I tried and it was so complicated for me...
And then i saw this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633895 which said you should follow cyanogen's method on this site http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_MT3G/Magic_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod.
so i follow the steps and everything worked out and now i have cyanogens rom running on my MT3G. .... now my question is ....do i have root??...
can i flash other people's roms assuming i have all the right radio and SPL...
when i try to install Amon_RA's recovery img through Terminal Emulator, after i type $su and hit enter....nothing happens....it does not ask me for su permission????.....
Please Help....If i dont have root how was i able to flash cyanogens rom??
do i need to do the goldcard method....or am i set...with root.??

stock hboot (0.85.0005) ignores S-OFF?

Hi all,
today i discovered something strange and i like to get your opinion on that:
I am not able to do s-off things in fastboot even if i have s-off!
Situation:
Phone: Desire Z
HBOOT: stock 0.85.0005
FW: 1.34..
Rooted: did root, supercid and s-off via gfree and verified via gfree_verify - even hboot showes up S-OFF
ROM: GingerVillain 1.5
Recovery: ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5
Problem:
First of all, i myself have no problem, but i started experimenting after a friend semi-bricked his desire z with same setup.
I did a nandroid backup and when i boot into hboot and do a 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' (with my nandroid recovery.img) i always get a remote: not allowed.
Now from my point of view this should only happen if I have a S-ON and should be impossible with S-OFF ?! Even using 'fastboot oem rebootRUU' does not change anything.
The thing that concerns me about that is: If something destroys both system and recovery, your pretty much screwed + bricked because hboot is not allowed to write to something other then cache and all of this basic stuff doesn't work:
- flash recovery with CW
- flash a complete zip
- flash an other hboot
- RUU
When I rooted my phone i have read everywhere that eng-hboots are not necessary any longer. But it appears that they are the only thing that helps and you have to install them as long as you have a working ROM.
Any thoughts on that issue / can you reproduce this / are fastboot actions logged anywhere?
You need a ENG. HBoot to use fastboot commands, doesn't matter if your s-off.
yeah, i came to the same conclusion..
is there any chance to flash a eng-hboot from a bricked 0.85.0005? i did some experimentation with a goldcard, but at least remote commands didn't change in behaviour..
I think being full-bricked when something goes wrong and not having an eng-hboot already installed is not an acceptable solution for most people here

maybe thru a modified PC10IMG.zip

My thoughts exactly, its kind of a safety if you can't boot into android.
i'm not sure if a PC10IMG.zip will help at all.. my friend tried flashing both 1.34 and 1.72 RUU ROMs as PC10IMG and this didn't change anything.. in fact, the 1.72 even didn' install the new .00008 hbott, so i thing there is some heavy write protection in the hboot making it more or less useless..
what i can imagine that works is aa gokldcard with sppimg.zip, but i haven't yet found one for the desire z..
i have the feeling that this is a huge problem because with a short research i have found at least 3 threads of people having bricked their phone exactly this way and are now stuck.. some of the experts here might pay attention to this problem and in my opinion you should also consider removing the 'a eng-hboot is not needed, don't use it' advice from the rooting section of the wiki..
So what exactly is your problem.
You destroyed recovery and system?
If yes, and you used gfree to get Super-CID just install an PC10IMG that has a version higher or equal to the main version in you misc partition. And then do the whole downgrading, rooting, flashing recovery again.
If you are not Super-CID you might need a goldcard in addition if the CID of the phone is not supported by the PC10IMG that you whant to install.
have fun Guhl
It is almost impossible to brick this phone. The only possible way might be a failed copy of the eng-hboot and this is why the warning is and stays in the wiki.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I thought so, too, but when flashing a newer original RUU using the PC10IMG.zip, the flash process runs okay, but after the restart nothing (still hangs in HTC screen, no new hboot) changes so apparently no changes are made..
So from my point of view the phone is more or less bricked.. i guess maybe some custome PC10IMG with an eng-hboot might change this, but i only found one for the G2 and wasn't able to find one for the DZ.. Thats why I thing that removing the 'UNNECESSARY' advice is justified (of course i don't want the warning advice that this can brick the phone to be removed)..

What does this mean exactly?

PermROOT said:
Hello Phateless do you remember me? lol I am always on diff name so ya.
But yes PD15IMG.zip is not the golden solution to everything. It all depends on how you originally rooted your MT4G as VISIONary+ (TempROOT) and root.sh (PermROOT). In that case your S=OFF security off flag is dependent on the eng hboot which was pushed to /dev/block/mmcblk0p18 during PermROOT.
Now since its not true security off once you have newer radio. You try to run PD15IMG.zip (Sense 2.2.1 Rom/Radio 26.03.02.26_M) after the first update which is stock hboot you would be locked due to it changing S=ON thus on next step it will fail due to the image being older than originally on which is currently flashed which would be the radio. In this case your in a point where you shouldn't be as you can be locked out and no way to reroot. which I am working on finding. This also goes for gfree radio s=off.
If you do want to go back download PD15IMG.zip (stock radio 26.03.02.26_M) and then flash it once that is done then you can revert back to stock rom/radio using standard PD15IMG.zip (Sense 2.2.1 Rom/Radio 26.03.02.26_M). Keep in mind unless the new PD15IMG.zip is out you can't revert it back if your locked out due to source being outdated than current image.

Found this post here in THE Bible. Trying to understand exactly what it means.
What is he saying here?
Can someone put this into noob terms please?
THANK!!!
I am not sure how to explain it furthermore as when I posted that it was clear to everyone, but ill try to simplify.
The original stock rom that came with our device was 2.2.1S and later we had GB2.3.X port and we mostly switched. Then came the radio rom which I hope I don't need to explain what the image does. So the standard stock radio that came with our device was 26.03.02.26_M. So later on as Panache came out we had leak to other radios which user could flash, thus changing it from stock radio to leaked radio. I hope it make sense up to there.
Now keep in mind we have 2 type of root meth as one is via TempROOT/PermROOT as I explained before via VISIONary+ which just push the eng_hboot and gives the illusion of S=OFF but the true security is not off as that is only done if you do the other rooting meth which is PermaROOT which disables the radio security completely.
Now the problem few users faced was when they flashed the leaked radio and they wanted to revert back to stock rom/radio via PD15IMG.zip for our MT4G (IDD15000). The installation would fail only for folks who had root via PermROOT as they never had true S=OFF thus once the eng_hboot is replaced with stock bootloader the security is disabled thus user can't complete the second part of the process which would be flashing the radio. So only solution was that they first revert back to stock radio or wait for newer radio because the source of the image inside PD15IMG.zip was older than the radio.img that was already flashed inside user's MT4G.
I hope it explains if not well IDK how to explain any better man :O
So if I'm understanding this all correctly, how I find out if this will affect me?
Where and what information should I provide you in order to find out if this will happen to me as well.
I'm getting ready to send my phone in for an exchange and was looking to flash PD15IMG.zip before doing this when I came across this post.
I rooted my phone with Visionary R14 and Terminal Emulator.
What other info do you need? Please let me know. Thank you.
At this point it wont affect you as thats obsolete due to TMoUS releasing newer stock rom/radio for our MT4G few months ago as Panache radio leak is older than the current stock rom/radio. As its GB2.3.4S which comes with the newest radio which is newer than any radio you flash. So the source of the PD15IMG.zip if you have the newest one then it will always be newer or equal to the radio.img already in device and it means in simple term it will flash the 2nd part. I hope it make sense as it should not affect anyone now. Even if it does all they have to do is run the current new PD15IMG.zip and it will fix the issue which user faced few months back.

If this is all about going back for an exchange, i recently did just this. Please see my post on the topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241740
If all you did was the temproot/permaroot method via visionary+, and not the gfree method (gfree is actual s=off), then I believe some of the steps may be different. Specifically, you may be able to skip the whole bit about turning s=on again.
So which is it?
So rooted via Visionary R14 and being on Virtuous Unity (newest update)
I should be able to flash PD15IMG.zip from this link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863899
and have no problems yeah?
Sorry for all the questions. But yeah I'm only half to 75% following what you're saying.
I'm not advanced yet. =(
Thanks for the help again though.
Keep in mind PD15IMG.zip is the default system file for our device which is checked on the bootloader as our device ID is PD15000 thus getting the PD15IMG name. So PD15IMG.zip can be multi files as we have 2 of them 1 is 2.2.1 and newest one is 2.3.4 just look in the dev section you will find the newest PD15IMG.

Well that was one of the most useless posts I've ever read.
To sort the cid error you need a goldcard.
There's good instructions on making one here
-Nipqer
Was guessing, thanks for educating me with your link,I had a easy root didn't need a goldcard
I had attempted to flash the PC10IMG.zip using a gold card, got the .img emailed to me and copied some hex code over the .img file generated by a WWE RUU with the same radio version, I attempted it twice both returning a CID error.
Did you look at the link I posted? There is no hex editing involved with that method.
-Nipqer
i just did a gold card and it worked fine without anything else. I'm on a different carrier though.
My guess would be that you messed up in the creation of your gold card, since it's supposed to bypass the cid check anyway (?)...did you reverse the number when submitting it for the goldcard.img? It confusing because in the website it says to type in the cid number, but you really have to paste in the reverse cid number that can easily be generated from the Goldcard Helper app. I hope that helps!
Also see my recent post about using the gold card to avoid flashing eng hboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315324
Thanks for the responses guys. Must admit I was being lazy and I did not check your link niqper. Now that i hear there is no hex editing involved I have some new found hope. I will give those methods a go and hopefully return with a million thank yous.
Good news gentlemen, I have achieved permanent root and am now in the process of choosing a ROM!!!
Thank you guys so much, I've been trying so many different tutorials over the course of a month, it is such a relief to finally have this freedom. Again, thank you both!

Stock and S-on for exchange

I looked all over the place and cant find anything like my situation!
Ok so i called t-mobile and they are sending me a replacement because of the bad screen on my phone. All in all i used a method from CM7 to root my phone. I dont remember what method it was. I remember that i had to downgrade my phone and then root from there.
I am trying to get S-on because i already flashed the PD15IMG and it didnt give me the s-on. it just keeps saying s-off. do i have to have s-on for the excahnge? i already have the phone with the stock rom without root.
PLEASE HELP! thanks!!!!
If you used gfree you can run the script again restore S-ON if you still have the part7 backup files. If you don't have them, there is a thread around here somewhere that has the files with instructions to hex-edit your IMEI.
If you used root.sh, then you simply need to run unroot.sh
Edit: I came to the conclusion that if you looked and couldn't manage to find the gfree thread stickied at the top of the dev section that you would never find the thread about hex-editing part7backup. So here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195630

I dont think i used gfree because i used adb and my computer to root it
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Glacier:_Full_Update_Guide
THIS IS WHAT I USED!
:sigh: The last set of steps had you use ADB to push gfree to the phone. So yes, you used gfree.
Go to the dev section and look at the gfree guide stickied there. It has steps to unroot and 5000 people asking questions when they run into snags during the process. Read until your eyes bleed, then read some more.

okay i have tried everything i could think of and i still cant figure this out!
the problem is that i flashed the PD15IMG via hboot and it put everything back to stock. now the problem is that S is still off and i need s-on to send it back for a replacement. i have tried re rooting the phone from the guide i posted above but i have had no success CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP!?
i have the stock rom that is GB but without root or anything i cant even get temp root! please help me!
If your on gingerbread (2.3) you'll have to downgrade back to 2.2.1 before you can run gfree to turn
S-on.
After turning S-on reflash a stock pd15.img and you'll be back to stock.
For more info read the rooting guide in the sticky section. I think its the one by grankin01. Its the one that says check this out even if your rooted.
