[Q] perma root cid error - G2 and Desire Z General

Trying to perma root a uk vodafone desire z . The thing is gingerbread and ( despite best efforts) seems impossible. Followed many instructions on xda . Attempted to roll back to froyo and s-off but having trouble flashing a new pc10 img. This failed with a CID error.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Well that was one of the most useless posts I've ever read.
To sort the cid error you need a goldcard.
There's good instructions on making one here
-Nipqer

Was guessing, thanks for educating me with your link,I had a easy root didn't need a goldcard

I had attempted to flash the PC10IMG.zip using a gold card, got the .img emailed to me and copied some hex code over the .img file generated by a WWE RUU with the same radio version, I attempted it twice both returning a CID error.

Did you look at the link I posted? There is no hex editing involved with that method.
-Nipqer

i just did a gold card and it worked fine without anything else. I'm on a different carrier though.
My guess would be that you messed up in the creation of your gold card, since it's supposed to bypass the cid check anyway (?)...did you reverse the number when submitting it for the goldcard.img? It confusing because in the website it says to type in the cid number, but you really have to paste in the reverse cid number that can easily be generated from the Goldcard Helper app. I hope that helps!
Also see my recent post about using the gold card to avoid flashing eng hboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315324

Thanks for the responses guys. Must admit I was being lazy and I did not check your link niqper. Now that i hear there is no hex editing involved I have some new found hope. I will give those methods a go and hopefully return with a million thank yous.

Good news gentlemen, I have achieved permanent root and am now in the process of choosing a ROM!!!
Thank you guys so much, I've been trying so many different tutorials over the course of a month, it is such a relief to finally have this freedom. Again, thank you both!

goldcard

I followed the goldcard instructions in the GSM hero forum, and I think i have a goldcard.. is this used on our phones? or how can I see if it worked
Dont believe that can be used on the CDMA version... Could be wrong though
i would strongly sugest not dicking round with that whole thing unless you know kind of what you are doing, or you read up more on the topic.
The goldcard is used to bypass a check the recovery software uses to make sure a specific update is for your phone and carrier. This allows people that bought the asian hero to put the software that was made for the uk on it.
The version that is for the uk has a exploit in it that allows root access, the asian version does not. We tried this on the CDMA version and it doesn't bypass the hardware version check in the recovery software.
The GSM version doesn't have a problem cause they are all the hero100 model, we have the hero200, so it won't work.
I don't want to steer you away from tinkering, but at least read up on the subject more before you do so. Expecially when it comes to stuff like this that could damage your phone.
hope this helps

well nothing broke when I did it.. I still can't flash anything but the phone boots up and operates fine. I just don't see too much activity in terms of rooting, so I was just trying out mothods on the other phones

-please note which version of RUU you used in your method. Page/file link if possible.
-please also note what SD card you used brand & capacity, also link to procedure you yourself used to create the goldcard.
I have been unsuccessful as many others of us have been and are eager to hear your reply on this as you are the only recorded success story.
I'll be more than glad to help you once I find out the info above in terms of next steps to take to get you rooted.
Thanks,

well I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683
that guide, but I used QMAT version 4.30 instead of 5.06 (the site was down when I tried to use it)
I have a 8gig sandisk sdhc card

all the qmat is used for in that guide is reverseing your card's cid code. This can be done manually by typeing in your number backwards but qmat does make it simpler.
ok so assuming your goldcard is functioning you would attempt to flash a RUU from a different carrier in the step listed below
20. Use the Official HTC RUU to downgrade to 2.73.405.5 (
ftp://xda:[email protected]_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
) from which you can fastboot boot and/or root your phone with flashrec.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559613
now this step is where most of us have failed, it says incorrect hardware ID when you try to flash because we have hero200 as the hardware reports to hboot/recovery image. The goldcard was to my belief just to bypass the cid check not the hardware ID check.
I was under the assumption that you were able to flash this RUU. So I'm taking it that I was confused and you are in with the rest of us.
yea i think he is unable to flash, so its back to square one...

I'm having the same problem, but it has nothing to do with the fact you have a 32B board. My last MT3G was a 32B, rooted with ease. However, T-mobile just sent me a replacement under warranty. Still a 32B, but with a different SPL. Its a perfected SPL 1.33.0007. I have not been able to root this yet and I've tried every method possible. The goldcard method is supposed to be the only way to root this as of right now, but it didn't work for me. I tried multiple SD cards and converted them to goldcards. I tried multiple SAPPimg files. Both zip and nbh files. No go. Some have claimed to have rooted this SPL but never seem to give much information as to how they did it, which makes me wonder. Anyway, check your SPL, post your specs on here and I'll let you know what can be done.
I have rooted that spl

P.S. sdcard must be inside phone to get the info you need to make the goldcard.
Edit: where should i upload it?
check theunlockr.com
they have step by step instruction as to how root and flash your phone. They also have videos in case you are not sure if you are doing it right or wrong.

I can try and help ...
I had tried the xda-dev post entitled [How-To] Root and un-root the T-Mobile myTouch 3G, and I was receiving the same errors you described. I tried creating the goldcard following this xda-dev page Qns wrt SG Htc Dream and SDcard, even though I followed the hex editing info exactly, I continued getting the same errors similar to what just you described. I tried it using the exact method, which meant I had to wait to create the goldcard at work, since I don't have a windows machine at home (not trying to imply that this couldn't be done on Windows, just letting you know about what happened with me, when I was trying it too).
After trying most things and getting practically fed up, I decided to find out if I could just create the gold card on Ubuntu (since I didn't want to wait any longer). There was a Tutorial for the that I found my searching google Nazri Awang: How to create a goldcard with Ubuntu Linux, which is what I used finally to successfully create a working goldcard. I would have given you the links, but as newer posting member here, I am unable to link using any outside links in this forum yet.
I can try to and help you as I struggled with this last night and at the end of the evening, I am now running a 2.1 cyanogenmod version. I would like to document what works this time, as I really didn't get a chance to do that when I was trying to figure it out for myself. If you want send me a private message here, and I will IM you as soon as I can to try and help. We can then post the how-to here so that others can benefit from it.
Let me know either way.
Thanks,

Can you either paste the link here, or put the title of the tutorial or wiki you used to create your goldcard. After creating it before doing anything else did you try and insert it back into the phone? Does it do that successfully?

Greetings potential saviors!!! I swear on my immortal soul that I have scoured these forums for an answer, and I can attest to having followed technical instructions to the T, but after countless hours of suffering through endless failures I am humbly asking for the assistance of someone wiser, someone stronger, and someone with the compassion and fortitude to help someone as desperate as myself.
My phone, like the others mentioned in this thread, is a T-Mobile myTouch 3g (Google branded) with the following specs:
Firmware Version:1.6
Baseband Version: 62.50SC.20.17U_2.22.23.02
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37 - [email protected] #19
Build Number: DMD64
saphire pvt 32B ship s-on g
radio 2.22.23.02
cpld-10
hboot 1.33.0007 (SAPP30000)
I'm trying to root my phone and from what I have read it is necessary to create a "goldcard" in order for the phone to flash the sappimg.nbh file. I followed the steps (theunlockr) and was successful according to their test of being able to read the SD card after the process of coping the goldcard image to the micro SD. I've made four separate goldcard's using Kingston 2GB cards, each time I believe successfully.
When moving on to process of going into HBOOT I continually receive the same error message "Update Fail, Main Version Older." This error appears as the update is finalizing during the checksum process.
Does anyone have an idea of what my next step should be? Thanks for your help!

Can try itnet7's idea. Perhaps something is failing with the goldcard. other then that, other random things I guess you can try, is re-downloading the nbh, or try another brand sd card.

Problem solved! It turns out that I required a later version of the sappimg file. I used 2.53.707.2 sappimg (Google searchable). The only issue is that when the phone booted with that image it did not have andriod market installed (need for the Linda file manager). After a short freak out, I loaded the sappimg from theunlockr redirect. Tada...was able to root and now running Froyo.

The 2.53.707.2 sappimg did not work for me but "SAPPIMG_Sapphire_TMUS_1.88.531.1_COC10_release_signed.nbh" did. Search in google - lots of download links. I used the goldcard method.

Help Required

Hi Gents,
Before I get flamed, have been on XDA for with a HD2 for a while so bear with me - I have purchased a Mytouch and it has come with S-off but no root have tried pushing CWR via adb but comes back not reading the img - also came with 2.3.4 update S-off is ther a way I can flash a rom thats rooted to get Su permission ??
I am on H-boot .89
Any help would be great.
Thx
Stickies and INDEX are a great help.
Some basic reading is expected.
Thank Jack_R1 used to say the same myself I think re downgrade and start from scratch ... eeek and this one has a bad chipset -
No need to re-downgrade. If you got S-OFF - you're good.
Now flash engineering bootloader (0.85) by PD15IMG.ZIP way (search the guides for it) and use fastboot for flashing recovery.
This should guide you enough.
Thanks mate appreciate the help
Edit: have done your suggested but i am getting a Cid error ??
Means you probably don't have MT4G, but HTC Panache.
Look up a thread named "Videotron/Mobilicity Panache thread". There are instructions for making goldcard.
Actually, what it could also mean is that your phone was S-OFF-ed by XTC Clip and not by gfree, which means you're still not SuperCID. You might want to downgrade to Froyo and run gfree for SuperCID only.

[GUIDE] REVONE, MOONSHINE & RUMRUNNER Pre-S-OFF Steps.... READ FIRST

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
READ THIS BEFORE GOING TO THE S-OFF THREADS
This simple guide is aimed at giving you the best chance at achieving S-OFF on your device. Although not all of the steps listed below are 100% necessary if you are failing to achieve S-OFF or still receiving errors of any sort then you either cannot S-OFF your phone or you haven't followed the guide. In my opinion your best hope for S-OFF is by using RUMRUNNER. It supports the largest amounts of firmware and the support is great.
You should only use MOONSHINE/REVONE to S-Off if......
1. You are on or flash a STOCK Sense 5, Android 4.1 ROM! (NOTE: 4.2 Software may be OK however for your best chances use the oldest you possibly can!!)
2. Have an old un-patched 1.44 HBoot or If on T-Mob or AT&T and on Patched 1.44 HBoot you have downgraded using one of the guides provided at the bottom of this post. (NOTE: To my knowledge patched 1.44 HBoot's are most likely those dated from June 2013 onwards, to check this reboot to bootloader and find the date there.)
3. Use the up to date 0.2.1 revone (the older ones give false successes)
4. Are Rooted (Not necessary but seems to improve chances of success)
5. Have the correct Moonshine package for your exact firmware and software version! If your firmware is not on the site and there is no way of you getting a matching firmware then you can't use it!
6. Are not on stock 4.2 software upgraded via OTA. (NOTE: Custom 4.2 Software may be OK as long as your HBoot is still 1.44)
7. Are not using a GE ROM, 4.3 Rom or on stock 4.3 software
8. Are not on HBoot 1.54 or higher
9. Are NOT on HBoot 1.54 or higher
10. ARE NOT ON HBOOT 1.54 OR HIGHER
11. Are not an Idiot! (Most important of all)
Before you try RUMRUNNER you must.....
1. Ensure you are on 100% Stock firmware/software that is supported. (note:you may be rooted or have custom recovery they should not effect success)
2. Ensure that if your device is carrier branded you are running stock firmware/software for your carrier (i.e H3G = 2.24.771.3)
3. Have your bootloader unlocked!
4. Use the correct RumRunner package for your device firmware. If you are not then flash Stock software matching your correct carrier firmware before starting.
5. Have HTC Sync removed from your computer!
6. Have firewalls, antivirus and anything else turned off or un-installed! (Ensure to turn back on after completion )
7. Have read the RumRunner thread and Site HERE and know you can email them with your firmware version so maybe they can S-OFF your phone! But DO NOT pester them on their IRC channel, that is for support only!!
8. Have more then 40% battery life.....
9. Not be an idiot! (Always the most important point!)
Notes:
1. If it still isn't working try a different stock rom and re-flash your correct stock firmware and try RumRunner again
2. If RumRunner gets to pouring (5)... Or higher it's more then likely failed already.
3. Some branded firmware's might work with the international package i.e 2.24.111.3 works with the 2.24.401.1 rumrunner package.
Again as I stated earlier some of these may not apply but if you want to guarantee revone or moonshine to work then you should follow these rules! Also in addition to this. READ THE OP of the threads in question (and POST 2 of revone!) They are your bible and will tell you what to do.
If you aren't sure what S-OFF is, does, why you might need it or how to achieve it safely then you DO NOT NEED S-OFF. You could ruin your phone and you really should start with more basic things first!!
WARNING Going back to S-ON isn't necessary for warranty, just lock the bootloader and go back to a stock rom/recovery if you do decide to be crazy and go S-ON again you may receive back a non-s-offable device that isn't supported by any of the above methods... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Error codes and what they mean (from my experience, and what I've read!) ;-
Error Code -1 = Potentially you need to try a different ROM or it could just be random and after a few tries and reboots it might work. A few people have reported that rebooting and using -p rather than -P has worked but I'm not convinced as -p isn't built as a command but you're free to try whatever you wish.
Error Code -2 = I've seen people report this but revone has actually worked so should you see this try and reboot and carry on, if not then try changing ROMs and try again.
Error Code -6 = More then likely you're on either a patched or a 1.54 HBoot and you're not going to be able to S-Off. If you reboot to bootloader and you're on 1.44 then you might be able to downgrade using one of the guides on xda. Xboarder's guide on rootzwiki for TMob is a good one. In addition you may be on the right 1.44 HBoot but the software/ROM you're running could be the issue. In any case run a stock RUU for your CID and you should be sorted.
Error Code 1 = I've had this myself and this basically means it's not ever going to work. I think it's a variant on the -6 Error. If you see this, you're out of luck IMO.

Additional Info (On Downgrading HBoot from 1.54 with S-ON)
If after reading this guide you're thinking OK so I need to downgrade my HBoot, then to clear things up here is a list of methods that categorically do not and will not work to downgrade your 1.54 HBoot to 1.44 HBoot if your device is S-ON regardless of how much you think it should work because it did on your old phone.
Note these methods WILL NOT WORK to downgrade HBoot from 1.54 to 1.44 while S-ON!
1. Running an old RUU for your device with a lower HBoot inside
2. Writing directly to any of the board or hboot partitions mmcblk0p4, mmcblk0p5, mmcblk0p12. This includes:-
a) dd'ing your hboot/board image, editing the version then dd'ing it back
b) dd'ing any other hboot/board image to your hboot partition mmcblk0p12
c) dd'ing anything to anything!! HBoot and board are WP from low boot and cannot be written to or modified at all unless S-OFF
d) chmodding mmcblk0p12, deleting it, editing it, or anything else you might thing could work
e) using recovery to flash to mmcblk0p12 using busybox and dd command.
f) anything else I missed (I hope you're getting the picture here anyway) Oh and note, if you try to dd and it says it worked.... It didn't!
3. Modifying and flashing an encrypted or decrypted rom.zip, firmware.zip, PN07IMG.zip or RUU.zip from recovery, fastboot or RUU mode
4. Flashing an old encrypted or decrypted rom.zip, firmware.zip, PN07IMG.zip or RUU.zip from recovery, fastboot or RUU mode
5. Using a Y-Cable with or without a goldcard to flash an old PN07IMG.zip
6. Using a Y-Cable with or without a goldcard to flash a modified PN07IMG.zip
7. Running a modified RUU with old or editied HBoot version
8. *Not totally proven yet* Trying to brick the phone by shutting it off during RUU.zip install at the HBoot writing stage. (This has only been tried once so far and didn't pay off, I would not advise trying this unless you are a "VERY" confident/crazy android user/dev)
I hope this helps clear things up, have a nice day and happy flashing

OK so following my post of pretty much exactly this on the revone thread it seems that a lot of people still aren't sure what's going on so here is my simple guide to follow BEFORE you try to S-OFF your phone or post in the Revone or Moonshine threads.
You should/can only use revone or Moonshine(potentially different as I am not as familiar but I'm pretty sure the same rule apply) to S-Off if;-
1. You are on or flash a STOCK Sense 5, Android 4.1 ROM before you try!
2. Have an old un-patched 1.44 HBoot or If on T-Mob or AT&T and on Patched 1.44 HBoot you have downgraded using one of the easy to find guides provided.
3. Use the up to date 0.2.1 revone (the older ones give false successes) <revone only>
4. Are Rooted (Not necessary but seems to improve chances of success) <revone only>
5. Have the correct Moonshine package for your exact firmware and software version! If your firmware is not on the site guess what..... You can't use it! <moonshine only>
6. Are not using a 4.2 ROM
7. Are not using a GE ROM
8. Are not on HBoot 1.54
9. Are not on HBoot 1.54
10. ARE NOT ON HBOOT 1.54

Aditional Information - SuperCID
On a separate note If you are on an updated HBoot but SuperCID (11111111) Then the above rules may not apply. If this is the case for you and you are SuperCID, S-ON on HBoot 1.54 or Higher then you may have to try a few different routes as SuperCID bypasses some things on occasions. You may well be able to downgrade your HBoot and S-OFF.

Lets hope so. Mods moved it from the Origional Dev forum though and I have a feeling a lot of Muppets will totally bypass this forum and go there and still crack on blindly...... Maybe if this was a sticky then it would be missed less.... I dunno..... MODS?

I know. I'm thinking that at least from now on noone has to answer the questions though. they can simply send them to this thread lol.
I'd be better if this was in the Orig Android Dev forum imo, that way when they jump in there head first they might see it!

the ONLY way is for XDA to automatically redirect the noobs to this thread whenever they click on a S-OFF thread. otherwise they wont see it

S-Off via jtag or by an external paid source is completely different to revone or moonshine. For one they're a lot cheaper!
Also the company you mention has been offering S-Off on the one for while now.
