Hi!
I've been using CM9 nightly's since some days ago, but when I updated to the version of the day 19, it began with FC until that this morning, it reboot suddenly and it hasn't boot again.
I suppose that if i reflash the XXJW4, so i've tried it but, when it tries to boot, it boots on recovery and gives the following errors:
E: copy_dbdata_media: Can't mount /dbdata
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI men u for format and reboot actions.
Meida files copy failed

E: failed to mount /dbdata (File exists)

your storage not prepared yet. please use UI men u for format and reboot actions.
Meida files copy failed
----Updating filesystem....
E: failed _filesystem_for_rfs:can't mount /dbdata
Of course, it doesn't boot now.
Any solution? Thanks a lot!
I had similar problem and I had to do full cycle
restore from recovery also was giving me bootloop
1. flash stock gingerbread rom
2. flash CF-Root (corresponding with ROM)
3. install CM9 from recovery (wipe data and cache).
If you still can go to the download mod, try to flash a ginger stock rom.

# 77To those of you who get bootloops after flashing:
Go into download mode, and flash this, via odin, after you unzip it. (i.e. flash the .tar file, as usual - not the zip).
dbdata.tar
Cheers
Explanation: The bootloops are caused because the dbdata file is missing from the rom (it's just a Kies upgrade, not a full rom), and you probably ticked repartition when flashing.
nope.
in my case repartitioning was not checked, because I'm having a bootloop after flashing kernel, updatet rom, ... from CWM, so there is no option to repartition.
Those recovery fixes never worked for me, but maybe authors case is easier.
finally i have fixed it flashing a stock rom (JVU), XXJW4, root, CM9 and that is! thank you everybody!
Yes. Me too.
But... I've had boot-loop like 8 times now. It's irritating I have to flash stock, CM9, slim-ics every time. even worse I don't know what causes the boot-loop. Tooday I just rebooted to CWM, cleaned dalvik-cache and cache and my phone didn't start any more. I was on semaphore 1.0.0s kernel.
Now I'll try stock slimICS kernel and we'll see...

Hi Guys,
Firstly, the specs:
-Tab is rooted (using Gingerbreak)
-Tab has CWM Recovery installed
-Tab is on ROM - ACER_A500_1.139.05_COM_GEN1
-Tab is on Kernel - unity_V3_picasso_acer (Due to my idiocy)
-Tab is on OS - 3.0.1
Now, the story:
My A500 (stock 3.0.1) was not receiving the OTA update to 3.1 so I jumped on these forums and began reading... I decided that I wanted to flash to the Virtuous Picasso ROM so, after rooting and installing CWM without issue, I then downloaded the Virtuous_Picasso_v1.1.0.zip and followed the video found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129826
but i got this error when i 'choose zip from sdcard'
-- Installing: /sdcard/Virtuous_Picasso_v1.1.0.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/Virtuous_Picasso_v1.1.0.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I tried loads of stuff (flashing other roms and kernels) but I kept getting this error. Out of frustration I tried formatting the sdfcard (which deleted my backup) and flashing the unity_V3_picasso_acer kernel and it actually worked.
So after flashing the sdcard again I tried Virtuous_Picasso_v1.1.0.zip and 'worked'. But now for some reason it wont even boot past the ACER screen (I can still boot into CWM Recovery).
PLEASE HELP!!!
ps. This is my first post on xda, let me know if i have/haven't given enough/too much info!
A quick list:
Did you wipe the tablet before you installed the new rom? If no then do so now and repeat the process.
Did you check md5 sums? If no check them now.
Did you try using a different SD or an USB drive?
Format /system and /flexrom from "mounts and storage" menu in CWR. Then do a full wipe and reinstall the rom
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA App
thanks guys
had to format the /system and /flexrom and then use a usb drive instead the sd card..
you guys are awesome!
when you CHANGE roms or kernels wiping cache and dalvik cache will usually prevent this. If you are just upgrading the same rom/kernel to a newer version you shouldn't have to wipe. Unless the dev tells you to in his/her post
Running EC07_clean and followed the directions precisely. I know I didn't do anything wrong during the installation. Flashing ROMs is second nature to me at this point. Everything works seemingly fine while in the UI but as soon as I boot into stock recovery (2e) things start to go haywire.
Booting into recovery on the first screen I instantly get code errors:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl11
(Invalid argument)
#MANUAL MODE#
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl11
(Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl11
(Invalid argument)
I have to apply update.zip every time I boot into recovery.
Apply update.zip into cwmred and I instantly get:
CwM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v2.5.1.x
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open CACHE:recovery/log
The screen is glitchy and every time I boot into the UI all the changes I have made are lost including but not limited to RSS settings, notification settings, sound and volume settings etc...
Mounts and storage menu is as follows:
- unmount /system
- unmount /data
- mount /dbdata
- unmount /cache
- unmount /sdcard
- format boot
- format system
- format data
- format dbdata
- format sdcard
- format sd-ext
- mount USB storage
If anyone can help me I would be very grateful. I've never done this much damage too a phone but I feel like there's a simple fix. Thanks again.
i would recomend finding an odin image for DL17. do it back to complete stock, perform a data/system wipe within stock recovery. Once booted up search for updates and install whatever updates verizon pushes.. sometimes this can/will fix whatever issues. This sounds like it may be a mounting issue. i have had similar issues when i was on the droid x, they resolved themselves and were more of a nuscience than anything else.
I have seen a few scripts that specifically taget those sectors/partitions when reformatting. I can try and find/write a script in an update.zip form to reformat it.
In reguards to the recovery and always having to reflash CWM recovery, this is normal it doesn't completly replace the stock recovery, simply allow to have normal functionality along with the enhanced features of CWM once flashing the update.zip. Be warned however if you download any updates pushed by verizon, often times they are named update.zip and are placed on the root of the sdcard so they will overwrite CWM's update.zip so have a backup handy

figured it out... when you installed my rom you hit repartition. This deleted two files as stated here
Code:
What happened is you probably flashed using Re-Partition but your PDA and/or CSC was missing the cache.rfs file.
If you tick Re-Partition, you MUST flash the complete set of firmware files (those that include cache.rfs and dbdata.rfs) otherwise you'll get errors like that.
To fix it you have to flash again with Re-Partition and make sure this time your PDA or CSC file has the cache.rfs and dbdata.rfs file inside. You'll lose all your app data, so backup first.
Next time when u flash, don't Re-Partition unless you know you need to. For example, the official JPM/JP6 Froyo update files do not come with a dbdata.rfs, so if you (wrongly) click Re-Partition when u flash them, you're gonna get a similar error but with the /dbdata partition instead.
When i get home from work i can create a zip that will install these back, if you are unable to fix the issue
I would greatly appreciate any kind of zip file you could upload for me. I'm happy you've taken so much time getting me back online. When I fix the cache errors I'll reflash Miunia and we'll go from there working on bugs and such.
Thanks again,

No rush just have to keep my phone from rebooting, I've reapplied personal preference settings about a dozen times since I woke up this morning. xD
working on it now.

This isn't a flashable zip, but rather a file you will flash through odin
Heres the link, make sure the repartition is not checked then stick this into the pda location then flash to your phone.
Fix
Between help from both you and Trailblazer I seem to be back in commission. Thanks everybody, now I can get back to debugging! I appreciate all the help, flashing in the next 20 minutes.

well that is dependent on how long it takes for it to backup and upload

Hi guys, I hope you can help me.
I have just rooted + flashed my motorola defy plus for the first time (on any device for that matter)
I installed 2nd init, version 0.6.... or something.
Put a rom, kernel and google apps on my sd-card
Then I turned usb-debugging off and rebooted my phone.
Now I can get into bootmenu, and this is what I do:
1) go to recovery
2) select custom recovery
3) then it says: Clockworkmod Recovery v2.5.1.8
E: Can't open /tmp/recovery.log
4) I then select wipe data/factory reset
5) then it says this: Formatting DATA
Formatting CACHE
FORMATTING SDEXT
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext
Formatting SDCARD:/.android_secure
Data wipe complete
E: Can't open /tmp/recovery.log
6) After that i select install zip from sdcard
7) then I select choose zip from sdcard
8) then I select the zip file containing the rom
9) And it says: Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update
E: Can't make /tmp/update_binary
Installation aborted
Now I can't go any further and can't use my phone at all
I hope u guys can help me, and that I haven't F*ed up my phone

if I'm not mistaken the last release of 2nd init is not compatible with defy. Try to check this on the development forum. I hope I have been of help.

I think you need to go to stable recovery after you wipe your data from custom recovery
What do you mean by "stable recovery"? You talk about version 0.6. of 2nd init or something else?
Can you show a step-by step procedure?
Thank you in advance.
However, which is the procedure to un-root a defy+ and to have it with the original, fresh system?
I had flash a new SBF, root with Unlockroot v2.3, anything else doesn't work, 2ndinit v2.0 stable, wipe data/cache/dalvik (same errors), try to install cm9-ics, the same error "Can't make /tmp/update_binary"

Hi, I have exactly the same problem.. Trying to find a solution but is quite difficult. First I thought it has something to do with the partitioning, as stated in THIS topic. But, in THIS topic, people say that partitioning the SD card is not necessary at all..
@Cretu22: Yes stable recovery is CWM 0.6
Don't install stable recovery! I too faced this issue when I flashed using stable recovery. In snd init install Latest recovery and then try flashing your ROM. That should work..
I did choose the stable version indeed 0.6.7.
Now i did uninstall it and installed the latest 1.0.7, but when I reboot my phone it won't get into the boot menu but just boots into android. Tried it several times, but only with 0.6.7 I seem to be able to get in the menu

Okay!! I hope you were pressing the volume down button when the blue LED came?? Try doing this again all over.. I mean reinstall 2nd init and then latest recovery.. I remember doing this once(instal latest recovery after I installed stable recovery)..

Yes, its working Pressing the volume down button was not necessary with 0.6.7, that was what went wrong. Now the zips installed like a charm
i know the answer and is very simple
the problem is that you cannot create that specific folder.... because it already exist, cmp (connected music player) creates it, just delete it from SD and done!
Hi Folks,
I'll try to be as detailed as possible..days ago, I flashed a custom ROM on my ICS 7.7 stock Tab, however it kept on a boot loop. I made a backup via CWM so I tried to restore back to ICS...can't restore it ("Error while restoring /system") OK, no worries....
I tried to flash the HC and ICS stock back using ODIN....can't do it (in both times, It keeps getting stuck at "factoryfs.img" at the beginning)...starting to get worried..
Tried to use adb shell and e2fsck -cy /dev/block/mmcblk0p9.... no luck (kept getting the "error reading block *numbers increasing* (Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read) while reading inode and block bitmaps. Ignore error? yes Force rewrite? yes" and then nothing happened...tried to wipe/format data...CWM crashed
Tried to flash a P6810 PIT file to repartition the tab...no luck, ODIN still stuck at "factoryfs"
Tried to flash Android Stock Recovery...finally got wipe/format data to work...tried to flash "SkyHigh ROM" based on stock ICS (Remember that ODIN method doesn't work?) it installs, BUT when rebooting, it just stays looping at the Samsung Logo... now oficially Freaked out..!!:crying::crying:
Finally everytime I went to recovery mode, I get the following:
"E:failed to mount /preload (Invalid argument)
E:install_application_for_customer:can't mount /preload
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot options
copy aplication failed"
Like I said, I can wipe/format data and cache on stock recovery (can't do it on CWM) and also can flash ROM .zips (can't do it in ODIN)
So, to sum it up:
- Can't flash anything using ODIN (stuck at factoryfs)
- Can't flash using CWM (getting Samsung logo bootloop)
- Can't wipe/format data on CWM, it crashes (althought I can do it with stock recovery)
- VERY BASIC skills in adb shell (don't know to use it very much)
- I know (hope) it's not hard bricked because I can enter Download and Recovery modes
- Basically at this point, yeah I'm pretty sure to start banging my head on the wall
Can anyone help me out on this one..??? It's been 4 days trying everything
Any, ANY help will be deeply appreciated... :crying:
Thanks
have you wiped using the stock recovery? this happened to me before (there's a thread here entitled stuck at bootscreen/boot loop) some let the device drain it's battery, what I did was wipe it using the factory wipe the connect via ODIN to install the stock HC ROM
I wiped using the stock recovery...however, everytime I try to flash HC or ICS stock ROM using ODIN, It gets stuck at the very beginning of the "FACTORYFS" phase....
Last night tried to adb shell but now it gives me the "/system/bin/sh failed: no such file or directory"
I've been reading every single thread about how to revive it, but somehow I can't....
Go to notes forum they have threads how to repartation yr tab n make it work

i got stuck at the 'FACTORYFS' in ODIN no matter what i tried. i had flashed CWM using ODIN, but no ROM would flash.
turns out my usb cable being plugged into a USB hub was the culprit. it still flashed CWM like that, but the first time i tried flashing the ROM with the USB plugged right into my desktop, it worked.
just throwing that out there.
Yes. Seems like you have emmc bricked your tab. There is a fix for it. Search for emmc bug

to add to this. while i was experiencing this, i too could not flash any zip rom via CWM, it would bootloop also.
however i could wipe cache using CWM, which you can't.

Hi guys!
I did a backup of stock rom using cwm. then restored a backup of cm7. on restoring, it gave me this error:

so i rebooted my phone. now it get soft bricked. i can open recovery. in stock recovery, i can see all the recovery options but at the bottom its written

yes.. spellings are written wrong on recovery.
if i goto cwm and restore nandroid backup of stock recovery, its giving error that

i tried formatting system via cwm, but it gave me error that

DONE.
i tried flashing other kernels via cwm but it didnt help. also i cannot use odin (it takes upto 1-2 hrs trying for odin to detect my phone)
i am going to flash cm7.. i dont know if it will help or not..
pleaseeeeeeeeeeee help..
UPDATE: I think dat it will help if anyone could give a backup of /system dir in form of flashable zip (with commands like mkdir etc to remake system dir),, then it would be gr8..
If you a restoring a nandriod backup of cm7 you need to flash percys kernel first (I presume you were using that kernel when you were using cm7 as that is required) then reboot to recovery wipe system data cache then you can restore your nandriod backup
Change kernel to stock using hell fusion and format system and mount

If you have a nandroid backup of percy's cm7 then try flash stock rom via odin. Then go to stock recovery and flash percy's CyanogenMod7#2 kernel. Reboot phone and go to recovery again... You will must see CWM recovery and then try restore your nandroid backup.
Sorry for bad English

Please check where you are posting before you post - this forum is for the galaxy y 5360
As a general rule when restoring backups
1- restore the backup using the same kernel to which the backup was made
2- restore the backup using the same recovery version to which the recovery was made
When flashing stock rom via odin make sure you have the Samsung USB driver installed
Never flash bootloader or pit unless you know what you are doing - they are not needed for typical stock rom flashing
Goto your own phone forum for support on flashing stock rom for your device
