Hey guys
So, I finally managed to get on my PC to try and install WP7, but I think I failed.
I'm going to list what I did below.
1. Booted phone into bootloader (has Android installed from previous owner)
2. Installed Activesync on PC
3. Went into HD2ToolKit, did a Task29, then flashed MAGLDR 1.13 (2.08 HSPL already installed)
4. In MAGLDR, I went to Services and did Last24NAND and Wipe Sd MBR
5. Went and selected USB Flasher
6. Opened DWI.exe from YukiBackToTheFuture folder, which flashed fine.
7. Went to boot into it, but it hangs at splash screen.
What can I do? I need help urgently, because I need this phone for tomorrow. I don't know how to reinstall Android, and I have no access to a PC until Saturday.
Helpful points:
HTC HD2 European Model
2.08 HSPL
Not sure what radio, dead pixels at the area in bootloader so I can't see it -.-
Help!
CJ
hmmm it could be the partition or the SD card?
this is what i did & it ran smoothly
.. run HD2 toolkit
...bootloader
- HSPL 2.08
- Task 29
- Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14 >>> not necessary if you have it already
- MagLDR
- MagLDR Repartition 300/ 45
...boot to magldr
- Magldr
- Service
- Clear SD MBR
- uselast24NAND
- USB Flaser
- Flash WP
- Done!
if still the error persist try replacing the SD card coz mine had a problem with Trancend's 16gig card.
Thanks for the assist.
I'm not sure what Radio etc my HD2 is running because of an LCD crack under the glass with dead pixels

Also, how do I do a MagLDR Repartition? Using HD2Toolkit?
Another point, I'm on a SanDisk 2GB Class 4 card.

Yeah, that's about phone in the menu. It was a picture taken when I received the phone in the mail yesterday, running CM7 Hyperdroid. Payed $50 for it, my first working HD2
I have downloaded Pdaimatejams ROM, so I'll give it a crack tomorrow
Thanks! will get back to you if it doesn't work
I'll use a 4GB card tomorrow

YAY IT WORKED
Only problem. SD Card not working is what comes up when I boot the phone up, and the SD Card isn't read on my MyTouch either :'(
time to get another one, Sandisk or Kingston commonly works well with the HD2, get not less than 8gig & if you plan to dual Boot get the 16gig.
Damn. What I did was use my SanDisk 4GB SDCard, and when I went to MAGLDR I did a Wipe SD MGR or something in services, and now the card won't work. Lost all my pictures and everything too
Is it possible to format it into a Fat32 format on my PC and give life back to it? Then put it in the HD2?
if you still want those pictures back there are a lot of software that can recover them.
for format try using mini tool partition - it's free
http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html
BTW
any SD card that has info will be formated or erased so be sure to back up first

When you dual boot you should always go into magdlr..10.services...1. boot setting...2. always menu. this will give you the chance to pick which os you want to boot.

sounds like your sd is locked...you need to reflash yuki v2.1, do not reboot after flash...just go through the phone set up until wp7 is up. install storagelock.cab via wpcabsender...run storage lock app to unlock sd...power off...now your sd is available for use.
remember yuki/xbmod rom locks the sd for security...so flash with care and use of sd. also think about buying a replacement screen...$23 U.S. on ebay

I got a new G1 yesterday, Had to since that new SPL that bricked it, I had to get new one.
I rooted my phone, No problem, Installed JF 1.5 Build, No problem, Updated radio, No Problem, Installed theme, No problem. But if I do Apps 2 SD OR/AND cache (I have tried just cache and tried just apps on sd) but no matter if I do them alone or apart or only do one, each time same result, it loops on animation part of boot screen untill I wipe. On my old G1 I did these same steps a million times with no error, but this new one is being a *****
So you think reformatting my sd card might fix this?

I am not sure what you are saying as you stated "but and this is my problem, every time I do apps on sd or caches to sd it loops on boot screen and I have to wipe it, to get back then it works fine"
then you state "yes sd card works fine and ext2 partition" so I am assuming that you are stuck at the andriod sceen and it just keeps rebooting... this happened to me just last week Ihad my phone in the front pocket of my hoodie and forgot it was there as I pulled the hoodie up over my head to get it off the phone fell to the ground I have one of those clear plastic covers but i picked it up and it looked fine, so I powered down just to let it reboot and I had the android looping screen... I reflashed jf1.5 and it worked went to do the apps to sd... loops... so I just reformatted my SD and re-partitioned it and it has been working great ever since even got the [email protected] to update to the new SPL... but I would try that reformat, re-partition... hope it works out for you!

Hey Tanner... Damn what did you really mean to say... LOL Just Kidding... all I can say Tanner is that doing that worked for me it got rid of the booting "andriod" and stopped it from bootloop... what can it hurt... just save everything on your SD card... if you have the Ubuntu CD you can even save you ext2 stuff if you need to... i have only used Ubuntu CD to partition my SD card so i can't comment on the other software that others have used... its worth a shot...

and it wont work, the problem with the boot is fixed, phone boots but apps on sd wont work and this has never not worked before
the app folders are empty on phone and when i link them then they full but none will install or show up on phone even tho they say no phone memory left but properties says there 50 mb internal memory
so wtf, is it the phone or sd card? note before I got this new g1, the old one did all of this maybe 30 times without failure but this new phone is just....

Tanner i am not an expert... but you partitioned your SD into EXT2 and FAT32 correct you did the FAT32 partition 1st? and the EXT2 does not exceed 450mb correct...
Open up your terminal emulator (if you don't have it, go to the market and get it!)...
$ su (at this point, allow superuser access when the whitelist asks)
# cd /data
# ls -l (the l is a lower case L)
here is what the output should look like.

If your apps are going to SD, you will see the line app -> /system/sd/app as well as a line for app-private also...
The phone sdcard still works, and it does show system/sd on the thing,
but some reason wont let me do apps on sd
when i do the commands via adb
it removes current ones and i link to the one son sd card
but once phone reboots no apps are installed yet internal memory says 55 mb left but yet when i access the phone in data/app all apps are there and yet i cant download anyone it says not enough space
so whats up?

Sounds like a broken partition to me. Have you tried an adb logcat of what happens when your phone loops? It'll at least give the error and give us a starting point at figuring out what's going on.

Hello.
A couple of days ago, I turned on my viva and accidently pressing down the volume down key at the side of the phone. Then a text appeared saying 'Searching SD Card Contents' and then it goes to the tri-color bootloader. Then I was reading a couple of threads on Flashing roms via an SD Card. The instructions was pretty much of the same (I mean that by going into the BootLoader and the Searching SD Card contents part). So i was searching on the XDA wiki on how to flash ROMS via the SD Card. I was looking at the HERMES and NIKE ones, It says you need to name the nbh file HERMIMG.nbh and NIKEIMG.nbh. So i tried by renaming V20 OF PhamQuang's Wm6.5 Rom to OPALIMG.nbh (OPALIMG because its the first four letters of the codename of the Viva, like the HERMES is HERM) with no success, but the original HTC Stock Rom to OPALIMG.nbh also with success! Not bad for a 12 year old kid! Lol.
anyway, if you don't wanna read that, just follow the steps below,
1. Empty (erase the contents) of your microSD card from the Windows Mobile file explorer or format it from your computer using a card reader, make sure to format in FAT32 and not FAT.
2. Extract the .NBH file from your prefered ROM upgrade.
3. Rename the .NBH file to OPALIMG.nbh and copy it to the root folder of your microSD card.
4. With the microSD card inserted on the phone, start the bootloader (The bootloader is booted by pressing down the Volume Down button immediately after resetting or turning on your phone), keep the button pressing until this image appears.

5. Flashing might hang after some time but this is normal. Just wait. Complete flash takes about 30 minutes, so check your battery or connect to charger before the flashing process starts. After the flashing process is complete, it will tell you to press any button to continue. After this the bootloader screen with its red/green/blue color is shown. Just reset the device and it will boot the new ROM.
I Successfully flashed nguoc's 23053 rom with this process, took less than 10 min

Ah my bad i guess scanning thru it u dont get the whole "picture"
yea its not problem but to use this feature to the max we should have a stripped version of our roms like Ivan's Juststable micro edition over at the herald sub-forum and then we could really have memory to waste and such
I've been using this method for a while, in my opinion its safer. In my experience it works for flashing Phamquang's ROMs as well. I used it for v 19 and 20.

Problemm with the ROM!
Hello everyone, i'm new here, i have a HTC Opal (viva), and i want to upgrade the rom, i was trying to do it by SD card, and when i press the down volume button, appears the screen red/gree/blue but it never disapears. I can't do it by an other way (by usb cable) cause the device turns off when the status bar goes on 2%, so the only way that this thing doesnt turns off is when i insert the rom in the SD card, what can i do!!?, please help!.
PD. oh an other thing is that sometimes appears something like "your update is corrupted". this is a very confusign thing
problem ROM
if i named OPALIMG.nbh appears a white screen and says "Cheking SD contents" then "Invalid certificate, press any key to continue"

I have the same problem that a few others have faced, Once i restart my phone and hold the vol down button, it goes into bootloader mode but after that nothing happens. It just stays there.
And in the in the SD card all that is reqd is the OPALIMG.nbh file? sounds strange cause a lotta other places have other round about procedure as compared to this.

The SD card wasn't formatted using FAT32 it was formated using FAT. re-formatted it,
issue resolved. So for others who faced similar issues, here is your salvation.

using HTC HD2 512MB version, with MIUI.COM installed into the NAND
Questions:
1) I went to setting, and check the disk space free for the phone, adding up the disk space used, and free space, I only have 250MB in my phone? Why? How do I see 512MB in my phone?
2) How do I make the SD card the place to install all applications? like making it default?
3) When an application has been installed onto the phone; it says "30MB on Phone" and I hit the button "move to SD", and after moving, it says "140kb on SD" - what happen? Does it mean that it couldn't move the application from phone to SD? Or file size reported incorrectly?
250mb is a lot of room still left on your device. i only have 73.5mb in my system and i partitioned my sd card to 1gb so i still have 686.1mb left for data.
a great tool to know what apps can be moved to your sd card is appmonster. i personally love the app and have the pro version. it will tell you what apps can be moved safely as well as create a backup of evey apk file you install. a lot of other features as well. im sure there are other ways of doing this but i'll stick with this app instead.
I think you have misread my post; I have using HTC HD2 which is suppose to have 512MB in the phone,
but when i go into the system setting and take a look, adding the used up space + free space, both of them adds to be only 250MB! where did the 256mb go to?
Thanks, I will try app monster, but please let me know how do i utilitise the whole 512mb? It seemed that I'm only using 250MB of the 512Mb in my phone
yes i thought you meant you had 250mb availible after you installed your ROM. also there is a app called Move2SD Enabler (root only) free in the market that will allow you to install to your sd card by default. to answer your question that you only have 250mb total it would seem this is wrong in some way. i mean if that was true you wouldn't be able to flash almost any sence ROM because they almost are always over 250mb. what miui ROM are you running and how large is that ROM? all i could think of is you partitioned your phone incorrectly but thats really just a quess so my advice would be to wait for someone with more experience. sorry i couldn't help out more.
Sense rom? I'm using MIUI rom, which is about 78MB when download from the website;
I wasn't saying that's what you are running only that if your device only had a total of 250mb that you wouldn't even be able to flash a sence Rom. Have you tried to look at a app that will tell you how much space you have as a way of double checking the numbers you've gotten?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
You have 512 but your Rom and system files are installed on there so you dont have much leftfor apps
You need a Rom with apps2sd support and you need a ext partition on your SD, cwm will partition for you, use this Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010498 there is an app on there to move dalvic cache and apps2sd

your question was answered earlier as you already have titanium "BACKUP" then use it no data will be lost
and also THIS page will help you out alot
Use miui backup its pre installed back everything up, install new Rom format SD via cwm (back up everything on SD first pictures videos and stuff and your miui folder) when you partition it using cwm it will wipe your SD install new Rom, go to the apps2sd GUI turn everything on, then go to miui backup and restore everything

thanks guys for helping a complete newbie!!! the official miui tutorial should include this info too!
btw, from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010498
it says:
Choose EXT size (Maximum is 2048Mb) and Swap size (Recommand is 128Mb)
but there's a select to choose 4GB as EXT size........should i go with 2GB or 4GB?
I think my microSD class 2, which is way too slow for this; I've to get a class 6 or 10 one.
I tried to use 1GB ext, and it's working perfectly now; even with class 2 speed!
Stick to 1gb you'll have problems after that

Hi
1024 MB with 0 MB swap is all you need.
Any more will possibly give you problems.
0MB swap? i used 258 or 128,
is there an easier way to change swap to 0MB?
Yesterday I used the tool Killdisk (Free Edition) to try and revive my locked Transcent 16 GB Micro SD Card. I normally use this tool to revive my SSD's when installing a fresh version of Windows. The tool does not look at partitions but simply writes zero's ("00000") to the medium.
I used the Linux version located on the ultimate boot CD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/). So I booted my laptop with the ultimate boot CD in it (USB reader + mico SD card plugged in). Ran the Killdisk tool for over 5 hours (!!).
After that I booted my Windows and I was able to format the micro SD card !
So no Nokia phone was needed .....
Hope it works for everybody with a locked card.
yea but how did you get your pc to recognize your sd card i am using my psp thats the only way my pc recognizes my sd card

Within Windows my pc did not recognize my SD card. But when I use the bootcd (restart machine, boot from cdRom enabled) the pc will start a Linux distribution with a menu with all the tools. When starting the Killdisk tool it recognized the locked SD Card. Using this tool from the ultimate boot cd it is all very straight forward. No Linux knowledge is required ....
so i need lenux boot cd? where do i get it?

Hi Perlian, well done.
For your information, I found the windows version of killdisc (v5.5) and it does recognise that the sd is inserted but says "disc not ready", and you cannot start formatting. Oh well it was worth a try
You should post this method in the "[REF] - Confirmed Devices for unlocking WP7 encrypted SD Cards" thread

Can anyone provide more info on how to use killdisk with UBcd please?
I don't know if i'm just missing something obvious, but I get as far as launching killdisk, but it doesn't recognise my USB card reader. It only shows hard drives.
Other utilities on the bootcd recognise the card reader, but can't format my sd card.
Can anyone offer some advice, please?

Today I downloaded the UltimateBootCD. I've burned on a CD, boot my PC with the USB-Card-Reader and then I choose the option ActiveKillDisk.
What I have to do after this?
I'm afraid that all my HD's are killed after.
Please, sorry for my english!
Is there a manual in german for this program online?
Thanks from Germany

you should be able to find your sd by starting killdisk, then inserting the card in cardreader, then hit refresh. The card should appear.
I think there is only one option and that is to format the sd.
As for german, try google killdisk and translate user guide

Thanks for your reply, but I using UBcd I still can't see my USB card reader, even after refreshing etc.
On the UBcd menu it gives a summary of what each program does, and Killdisk is listed as being able to wipe hard drives, but it doesn't say USB devices.
Other programs on UBcd which list USB support recognise the card reader, but can't format my SD card.
Is there a later version of killdisk which supports USB??

hmm thats a very good question & id say it is the last question in our serch for soluion to bad no one else has commented much on this subject anyway if thare is not
lunix is open sorce so maby we could mod the kill disk program or boot cd?
i have not atempted to even download or use the program kildisk so i dont have any idia but i am no stanger to lunix and all of its 32 flavers!
i dont see why we couldent add some more code to it to enable it to serch for usb?
if it would help users it might be worth a shot
truth be told i know its a real pain to have your card locked and basicly bricked and locked and bound to the wp7 os only
i searched for a week to find a solution and made a tutorial out of puting to and to together and connecting te dots and it wasent easy and as it turnsd out it only works for hd2 users and even that is unconfermed at teh moment
i eventuly got back mybricked & then resurected phone and reinsteled my wp7 os with the locked card wich enabled me to then just use an application to unlock it from the phone wich seams to be the easyest way right now
the fact that we find these tools and thay actuly work is only ben confermed buy one person at the time i wright this
i think it should be in the fine print in the orional post
IF YOUR GOING TO DOWNGRADE FROM WP7.5 TO ANY OTHER ROM YOU MUST FIRST UNLOCK YOUR MICRO SD CARD! with one of the knowen methods!
all i read at the time was some lunix disrto unlocked it sence then devices have ben confermed and also other unlocking metod like this!
if you to end up finding a new way with your usb addapter problum please post your results!

The first thing you have to make sure is that you see and select the correct drive. The way I did it was that I first booted everything without the usb-micro-SD-card reader to see what drives it would see. After that I plugged in the reader, rebooted the machine and ran killdisk again. I saw that my SD card was identified as a floppy drive.
The screen looks similar like this:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

}
Just make sure you select the SD-card and choose to Erase (in this case F10)
To confirm the selection you will have to type: ERASE-ALL-DATA in the pop-up.
The you will have to wait for a few hours ....
Good luck !

Tried that, but it fails. It does not even proceed, Just says error, card is not ready or some other error. And I have tried all version of Kill Disk :-(
Lets try to triple Boot our HD2's with WIN7 + SD + Native SD via Magldr, although I got mine working OK, i'm not entirely sure if this is viable to all. please see last part.
I assume you already have Magldr in your HD2 & its either running WP7 or Andy in NAND or already dual Boots.
If not flash WP7 first in NAND by trying to follow this, WP7 is always in NAND **Anything you have in NAND/ SD will be deleted including CWM**
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25781675#post25781675
after that is done the partitioning begins
1 FAT32 Partition
1 EXT4 Partition
1 WP7 Partition
MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition (MTPW) using this to do those above.
Be very careful when using the minitool partition as you can accidentally format/ delete your Hard Disk Partition.
i'll be using a 16g card & after flashing WP7 it uses the SD Card as it's own storage using it's own format similar to a RAID setup making it like an Internal storage & what's left is usually 200mb of free space. We need to take back some of that space! :cyclops:
A - Set Magldr > Service > Boot Setting > Always Menu
After you reboot & setup WP7 go to:
••settings > about > reset your phone > YES! > phone re-boots
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
since you set A your still in magldr (don't let it boot to WP7 - yet), remove the card, put it in your PC & run MTPW
you will see something like this
right click on the larger (other)(14.64GB) partition & choose delete
right click on the larger (now unallocated)(14.64GB) partition & choose create partition as "Logical" with "Unformatted" file system.
Slide the tab to the Right leaving a partition slightly larger than 1/2 the SD card that was shown in MTPW
Make sure the "Unallocated Space After : is ZERO 0
after pressing OK something like below will show
Noticed that the "Unformatted" is larger than the "Unallocated" partition
click "Apply" & wait for it to finish.
••Close MTPW > insert SD card to HD2 > Boot WPH
WP7 will continue to boot & do the usual setup stuff
settings > about > to see if the partition has changed.
Turn OFF the phone, take out the SD card & plug it in the PC then run MTPW
the "Unformatted" before now becomes "other" to MTPW which WP7 formatted for it's own use.
right click on the 200MB "other" partition & delete it!
noticed that it combined with the "unallocated" partition & now we have just 2 partitions
right click on the "unallocated" partition
Create As > Primary > FAT32
slide the Tab to the Left for the EXT4 partition, i choose around 2g
when you press OK, an allocated space will be there
right click on the "unallocated" partition
Create As > Primary > EXT4
right click on the "Other" partition
Modify > Set partition as Primary
Now we have 3 Primary Partitions, click Apply & when all is done your ready to go!
copy all the necessary files you need to the SD & see if WP7 boots First, see more on NativeSD+EXT4 below
NativeSD Rom+EXT4 for New Users with peechurs

Hey man , thanks for tutorial.
I'm using WP7 on my tmous hd2 for long time.
Today i decided to try dual boot native sd and wp7 , and i was searching all day how to do it.
However i accidently did what you wrote there , formatted my main hard disk!
And now trying to recover my partition
I'll try dual boot with that tutorial tomorrow.
YIKES!!!
that's what I was afraid of, that's why I made BIG & Clear, well actually it happened to me once a long long time ago
Anyways there are powerful partition recovery out there, I hope you get it back.
Man this is a pretty good guide, it is also needed to as Native SD is still new to the HD2. I am glad to see you can use 4EXT with the HD2 now as I feel it is truly the best custom recovery out at the current time. I absolutely love the 4EXT recovery Control app, it is the paid version but you can also get the 4EXT Updater app which is free but not all the features are available in it. I am going to suggest this guide for the Portal as it proves you can multiboot OS using Native SD. Thanks for taking time to write this up mengfei.
thanks Man!
I just extended the dual boot of WP+SD to include EXT4 & i hope it's helpful to those that want to have as much option as they can have. I now have like 10 roms just in case one goes bonkers, what a Paranoid hehehe :cyclops:
BTW here's Xylograph's reply to the error I was getting.

Hi mengfei, do you expierence poor speed performance on android with triple boot? I installed NexusHD2 rom with nativesd and, I must say, it is painfully slow and barely usable. Even downloading something to the card is slow. I have no speed problem with wp7. I have a transcend 8gb class 6 with this partition layout: 2,5Gb Fat32, 1,5 EXT4, 3gb for wp7. Is there something I can check or I can do to improve my android installation or the speed of sdcard?
@serverless
no problem with my 16g Sandisk Class 10, just flashed JB AOKP's latest & it's buttery smooth.
I had problems with a 4g Sandisk which i think had a problem or is fake even when running normal SD Rom's & my Class 10 16g Transcent is not compatible with WP7 - it wont detect it.
if you can try another Card or reformat the card, give it shot.

Yes, it is very good. though I now feel that I need to change my SD card. I have an 8 GB Class 2 SD card (the main culprit for slow speed) and now I am thinking to buy a 16/32 GB SD card but confuse with the class. I know Android write data on non-sequential manner but which one would be better? I am thinking of buying either Class 4, 6 and 10 SD card.
Thanks

Because Class 2 and 4 have better random access speed than an Class 6 or Class 10! Class 2 or 4 was the better choice for an OS, Class 6 or 10 was the better choice for big datas like movies or pictures, because they have a cache! This cache (Class 6/10) must always rebuild and this make it very slow for random access.

By the way , i took back all my files which i formatted that day with partition recovery wizard :highfive:
Then i followed your steps and flashed wp7 and android. Everything is working perfectly in spite of using 16gb class 2 sandisk.
Today i bought a 16gb class 10 sandisk mobile ultra which is specially for android devices (thats what they said) and will flash android again.
I have question regarding the used radio when dual booting wph7 and android (native sd). Currently I use radio 2.15.50.14, as I did with android on NAND. Now I read that in wph7 it's recommended to use radio 5.51T. Is that even possible?
I'm sorry if that's the wrong thread or a stupid question.
@soulforger
good to know you got your files back! :highfive:
let us know how it goes with those cards.
@derschnelle
2.15.50.14 is good for all, once you flash this radio from the start you can leave it alone with WP7 or Andy. One Radio to rule them all :cyclops:

Thanks again,
Hi,
I have followed the tutorial but my nativesdrom (evoHD2v10final) can't find the FAT32 partition. So i can't use the storage.

Does any has the problem?
