Triple Boot WP7+SD+NativeSD EXT4 @ 1 SD with pictures - HD2 General

Lets try to triple Boot our HD2's with WIN7 + SD + Native SD via Magldr, although I got mine working OK, i'm not entirely sure if this is viable to all. please see last part.
I assume you already have Magldr in your HD2 & its either running WP7 or Andy in NAND or already dual Boots.
If not flash WP7 first in NAND by trying to follow this, WP7 is always in NAND **Anything you have in NAND/ SD will be deleted including CWM**
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25781675#post25781675
after that is done the partitioning begins
1 FAT32 Partition
1 EXT4 Partition
1 WP7 Partition
MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition (MTPW) using this to do those above.
Be very careful when using the minitool partition as you can accidentally format/ delete your Hard Disk Partition.
i'll be using a 16g card & after flashing WP7 it uses the SD Card as it's own storage using it's own format similar to a RAID setup making it like an Internal storage & what's left is usually 200mb of free space. We need to take back some of that space! :cyclops:
A - Set Magldr > Service > Boot Setting > Always Menu
After you reboot & setup WP7 go to:
••settings > about > reset your phone > YES! > phone re-boots
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
since you set A your still in magldr (don't let it boot to WP7 - yet), remove the card, put it in your PC & run MTPW
you will see something like this
right click on the larger (other)(14.64GB) partition & choose delete
right click on the larger (now unallocated)(14.64GB) partition & choose create partition as "Logical" with "Unformatted" file system.
Slide the tab to the Right leaving a partition slightly larger than 1/2 the SD card that was shown in MTPW
Make sure the "Unallocated Space After : is ZERO 0
after pressing OK something like below will show
Noticed that the "Unformatted" is larger than the "Unallocated" partition
click "Apply" & wait for it to finish.
••Close MTPW > insert SD card to HD2 > Boot WPH
WP7 will continue to boot & do the usual setup stuff
settings > about > to see if the partition has changed.
Turn OFF the phone, take out the SD card & plug it in the PC then run MTPW
the "Unformatted" before now becomes "other" to MTPW which WP7 formatted for it's own use.
right click on the 200MB "other" partition & delete it!
noticed that it combined with the "unallocated" partition & now we have just 2 partitions
right click on the "unallocated" partition
Create As > Primary > FAT32
slide the Tab to the Left for the EXT4 partition, i choose around 2g
when you press OK, an allocated space will be there
right click on the "unallocated" partition
Create As > Primary > EXT4
right click on the "Other" partition
Modify > Set partition as Primary
Now we have 3 Primary Partitions, click Apply & when all is done your ready to go!
copy all the necessary files you need to the SD & see if WP7 boots First, see more on NativeSD+EXT4 below
NativeSD Rom+EXT4 for New Users with peechurs
Error Message
when i ran EXT4 recovery there was an error message & it does not boot to TWRP (touch), although with this error message all seems to be running ok - for now :fingers-crossed:
Many thanks to the Dev's & Guys that gave us so much for our HD2, don't forget to hit the "Thanks" button for our guys! :highfive:
for partitioning I followed This

Hey man , thanks for tutorial.
I'm using WP7 on my tmous hd2 for long time.
Today i decided to try dual boot native sd and wp7 , and i was searching all day how to do it.
However i accidently did what you wrote there , formatted my main hard disk!
And now trying to recover my partition
I'll try dual boot with that tutorial tomorrow.

YIKES!!!
that's what I was afraid of, that's why I made BIG & Clear, well actually it happened to me once a long long time ago
Anyways there are powerful partition recovery out there, I hope you get it back.

Man this is a pretty good guide, it is also needed to as Native SD is still new to the HD2. I am glad to see you can use 4EXT with the HD2 now as I feel it is truly the best custom recovery out at the current time. I absolutely love the 4EXT recovery Control app, it is the paid version but you can also get the 4EXT Updater app which is free but not all the features are available in it. I am going to suggest this guide for the Portal as it proves you can multiboot OS using Native SD. Thanks for taking time to write this up mengfei.

thanks Man!
I just extended the dual boot of WP+SD to include EXT4 & i hope it's helpful to those that want to have as much option as they can have. I now have like 10 roms just in case one goes bonkers, what a Paranoid hehehe :cyclops:
BTW here's Xylograph's reply to the error I was getting.

Hi mengfei, do you expierence poor speed performance on android with triple boot? I installed NexusHD2 rom with nativesd and, I must say, it is painfully slow and barely usable. Even downloading something to the card is slow. I have no speed problem with wp7. I have a transcend 8gb class 6 with this partition layout: 2,5Gb Fat32, 1,5 EXT4, 3gb for wp7. Is there something I can check or I can do to improve my android installation or the speed of sdcard?

@serverless
no problem with my 16g Sandisk Class 10, just flashed JB AOKP's latest & it's buttery smooth.
I had problems with a 4g Sandisk which i think had a problem or is fake even when running normal SD Rom's & my Class 10 16g Transcent is not compatible with WP7 - it wont detect it.
if you can try another Card or reformat the card, give it shot.

Yes, it is very good. though I now feel that I need to change my SD card. I have an 8 GB Class 2 SD card (the main culprit for slow speed) and now I am thinking to buy a 16/32 GB SD card but confuse with the class. I know Android write data on non-sequential manner but which one would be better? I am thinking of buying either Class 4, 6 and 10 SD card.
Thanks

here's one's posters take on about SD speeds

Because Class 2 and 4 have better random access speed than an Class 6 or Class 10! Class 2 or 4 was the better choice for an OS, Class 6 or 10 was the better choice for big datas like movies or pictures, because they have a cache! This cache (Class 6/10) must always rebuild and this make it very slow for random access.
Also sorry for my bad english.

Many thanks, once again :good:

By the way , i took back all my files which i formatted that day with partition recovery wizard :highfive:
Then i followed your steps and flashed wp7 and android. Everything is working perfectly in spite of using 16gb class 2 sandisk.
Today i bought a 16gb class 10 sandisk mobile ultra which is specially for android devices (thats what they said) and will flash android again.

I have question regarding the used radio when dual booting wph7 and android (native sd). Currently I use radio 2.15.50.14, as I did with android on NAND. Now I read that in wph7 it's recommended to use radio 5.51T. Is that even possible?
I'm sorry if that's the wrong thread or a stupid question.

@soulforger
good to know you got your files back! :highfive:
let us know how it goes with those cards.
@derschnelle
2.15.50.14 is good for all, once you flash this radio from the start you can leave it alone with WP7 or Andy. One Radio to rule them all :cyclops:

Hello mengfei,
Thank you a lot for your excellent tutorial. It's I've been looking for.
Would you Please let me know how to install native SD Android ROM on such prepared SD (WP7 delletes CMR I use to install zip ROMs from SD) or maybe you can address my question to developer who knows ?
Thank you once again and regards,

Hello again,
I've read your tutorial again, carefully and came to conclusion that my request is senseless, everything is described. So, I'll try to install WP7 on NAND and AD on nativeSD.
Thanks again,

Hi,
I have followed the tutorial but my nativesdrom (evoHD2v10final) can't find the FAT32 partition. So i can't use the storage.
i have 3 partitions: FAT32 + EXT4 + unformatted( wp7)
Does any has the problem?
Thanks in advance

I am going to get hd2

Special Sd card format program

It is not warez i think,free tool.
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/#download
Would this realy help for better performance?
Just a idea,have no clue if it realy works,just wanted to share the info with you guys
This is the info from the site:
SD Formatter 2.0 for SD/SDHC
This software formats all SD memory cards and SDHC memory cards using a formatting program that complies with official SD memory card requirements. SD formatting provides quick and easy access to your SD memory card. This program may only be used on Windows® 2000, Windows® XP and Windows® Vista®.
SD or SDHC memory card file systems formatted with generic operating system formatting software do not comply with official SD memory card requirements and optimum performance may not be experienced.
Jeez,i am formatting it now with this tool,you can sit back and relax when doing it lol.
It first doing a overwrite erase,after that a flash erase,and after that a format.
If i am done i am going back from 0 to android again (including fresh install windows mobile) and a clean android install.
Let's see if this helps
Is there something wrong with Right Click Drive and Format in Windows?? That is how I formatted my SD Card, no issues..

Yeah me to normally.....this is just a test,if i must believe the site from this program and i read it good,they say that you get not optimal performance for the sd card when formatting with widows or something
not optimal performace from windows format... hmm, interesting.. keep us updated pls..
I don't 'notice' a difference.
Total commander says still 18mb/s the speed of the card.
Did not test the speed in Quadrant,later this day i am going to compare that
Edit:
Just tested my new setup with quadrant,old score whas 1364.
Now it says 1443!
I don't no if it has something to do with this 'special' format tool.
Maybey some other people can test it to if you are going to do a clean install?
I've tried the program but with ATTO and a USB Card reader from sandisk. I didn't notice any difference. The benchmark results were almost identical.

With All flash memory starts getting slow with usage. Its why trim was invented for ssd(s).I use [email protected] KillDisk. Zero my card. Then use my phone to format it. Works every time, to cure the "cant find rootfs" issues.
For benchmarking purposes. I put a 6gb of crap data (pictures, mp3, a few movies, etc) on my class 6 8gb kingston sd card. Coped it off. Put it back on replacing everything. I did this 3 times.
"Stock - Windows format":
Read 11mb/s Write: 5.5mb/s
Read 9mb/s Write: 4.2mb/s
Read 5mb/s Write: 3mb/s
Windows Format #2:
Read 8.7mb/s Write: 4mb/s
[email protected] KillDisk:
Read 11.8mb/s Write: 5.7mb/s
just some food for thought. Your mileage will vary.
Thx for also testing!
Going to try active killdisk also
Here 2 screenies before and after,i have 4 times run the test (so 8 times total) and after that i used the highest score from both (windows format/and the special format tool)

Sd cards are flash devices just like ssd's. By using it (filling it with data) it will get slow by time. Because overwrites to sectors will be slow compared to fresh sectors as sd controller does not know actually which sectors are free when you delete files.
By formatting with the above utility and setting erase: ON it will instruct sd controller to release all charge from all flash cells so future writes will be much faster. (On par the day you bought your sd card)
This is comparable to MANUALLY TRIMMING an SSD.
NOTE: Do not confuse Overwrite ERASE with Flash ERASE. Overwrite ERASE is just overwriting sectors with zeroes so data is not recoverable but may not necessarily make your card faster, a real Flash ERASE is a command sent to the controller and will make your card freshly fast in short time. (discharging all sectors is a quick operation compared to overwriting them with null data) Also do not confuse with quick format. ERASE:ON is what you want for performance. (Smaller, older sd cards OR some sd card reader/controllers may not support real ERASE function, you will be notified by the format tool if this is the case
THIS IS AN HARDWARE ISSUE, NOT LOGICAL/SOFTWARE.
This may also fix if hardware sectors do not align with logical sectors. This will affect performance.
You may have trouble finding a configuration that can do flash erase.
Conclusion: Formatting with this tool may enhance your sd card performance and there are no negative affects. Worst case senario is you get do benefit.

when i choose flash erase, the program said that flash erase is not supported by micro sd card or something and skipped it after it had done the full format..
'Flash Erase' doesn't work with Micro SD cards......
Thanks for the updates, this sure does take a long time...especially if you are formating 16GB
very well stuff...
before use i must edit the "rel_path=Android" file to mckbl0 and after format dont need edit startup.txt
Well, this so called tool make me smile.
First of all for any card less or equal 2Gb it formats it in FAT16, yes FAT16 is slightly faster than FAT32, but when you miraculously loose all you data (needles to say your Android folder also) from your card, please recall this warning:
FAT16 is extremely fragile file system and is absolutely not subtable for removable devices!
Second, it partition SD so that it consists of one primary partition, it would've been good if we would've talked about "Big Brother", but we aren't, most mobile devices is tend use card's (not only SD) as unpartitioned disk and in some situations, the way this programs tend to format cards, will cause problems and not to resolve them.
And since 'Flash Erase' doesn't work with Micro SD card as stated by prashanthm, and I've checked that my self, there is only harm from such program.
Of cause it's easy to say all these since I'm typing it from Linux and it really ease to format SD card the way it should with just a single command e.g.:
Code:
su
mkfs.vfat -F32 -n [I][B]Replace with desired label[/B][/I] -I [I][B]Replace with block device name of your card, for example /dev/sdh[/B][/I]
but I can't make every one to migrate to Linux.
Although you could try some Live-CD/DVD, Gentoo minimal with bare console will do the trick, if you'd want more User/GUI-friendly I'd recommend to look for Knopix or even MeeGo.
Guys,
If you are formatting your SDCards with Windows FAT32 don't try to flash an Android ROM from it. If you use CWM recovery to flash, he can't mount the card to see the zip you want to flash. You need to use this program to format on Windows or Mac or else put the card in an Android Phone which has a format program. Most Android Tables don't come with any kind of format program. In the tablet forums people post every day that they can't flash a ROM because ClockWorkMod can't mount their SDHD. When this happens it usually turns out that they formatted the card with Windows, Iphone, Ipad, or Windows Phone. None of those follow the ISO stand for SD Card formatting. Android requires it. This program follow the standard. Just though I would let you guys know that its heavily used in the tablet community. Performance is never even a consideration since external SD are generally use on a Tables and entry point for files destined to go inside the OS. Or for storing backups.

[SOLVED] Help: WP7 won't create a partition on my SD card.

I am trying to dual boot WP7 NAND and Android SD...
I am following the instructions this YouTube Video: HTC HD2 Partition a micro sd card to install Android and WP7 in the same card but I am stuck on the second part where you have to reset your phone and insert your SD card in the reader to see the WP7 partitions.
When ever I reset WP7, insert SD in reader, and open Partition Master, It only shows 200MB, it doesn't show the unallocated partition. Basically, when I insert the SD card, I only see One Partition, instead of Two partitions (fat 16 and unformatted)
Can someone please explain to me how I can solve this problem?
(I am using ScanDisk 8 GB class 2 sd card.)
PS: I have tried to search this forum extensively, but I couldn't find any answers (I am not sure what other search term to use at this point.)
UPDATE: If you are having problems seeing the WP7 SD partition on your computer, don't use an SD adapter with the built-in card reader on your PC or Laptop, use an external SDHC card reader instead. You can buy one on eBay for like 5 bucks or less, OR you could get one at your local electronics/hardware store for no more than $15.

So you do have 200meg AND Unformatted partitions ??
@1:22 it shows the Unformatted Partition being deleted which means it becomes unallocated..
You need to delete the Unformatted partition..
Then continue on with video..
i assume your using the tutorial from [REF] Tutorial: How to partition sd card to run wp7 and android from same sd card
and following the Third Method.
If you dont see an Unformatted Partition -(no idea why you shouldn't - if it an 8GB card there has to be something beyond the 200meg partition) i'd re-format the entire SD...and start again.
I have reformatted my SD card several times, using (SD formatter), but I keep getting the same results.
Like I said, I am only getting One Partition and that is the 200MB partition on my SD card, whenever I flash WP7 (even when I reset WP7, I get the same thing.) -- I am sure that I followed the instructions correctly, well, up to the point where I got stuck.
If anyone have any other ideas, please share...

Ok, so after a fresh format and before trying wp7 re-install you're getting an 8GB sd card right?
If yes - start again by reseting phone in wp7 with your sd card installed. (settings/about/reset your phone)
let it reboot back into wp7.
goto settings/about
What size do you see under:
Total Storage
It should list 7.xxGB (for your 8GB Sd)
If it doesn't its more than likely that you have an sd card not compatiable for wp7 sorry.
OK, now I see
Total storage: 7.20 GB
Available storage: 6.82 GB
Is this normal?

definitely - and a good sign.
do you have easeus partition installed on your pc, if not install it.
re-set your phone again and stop at the MAGLDR screen. (Hold Power button down)
remove SD and load into PC.
Open easeus partition.
You will see a 200Meg partition and a Unformatted partition....
Continue with Tutorial.
Sorry, for the late responses...I appreciate your patience.
OK, I just reset the phone again, and I have inserted my SD into my PC, and loaded easeus partition; BUT soon as I insert the SD, I get windows message that I need to format the disk in drive __: before I can use it.
Now, in easeus partition, all I see is one unallocated 200MB partition (logical)
Any idea what's going on here?

Well, at the very least that partition should be Primary and not logical...
sounds like a faulty sd card
In EaseUs partition delete all partitions under the sd list. (in pic below i'd delete all 4 partitions shown)
ie in your case the 200Meg and anything else listed (but only for the sd) dont want you deleting your windows OS.
Apply changes so you have one 8GB block of unallocated space and then try re-formating the sd card back to origional 8GB FAT32.
Apply changes...
remove and re-insert into PC, check and make sure windows doesn't report errors.
dump a few files onto the sd and try reading them. (pics or movie)
Providing all good to this stage, repeat re-set phone process..
reboot into wp7 and check /settings/about.... if 7.xxGB Total Storage, remove sd and check with windows... if errors like you just stated i very much suspect a faulty sd card...
If you can take a screen shot (sniping tool in windows 7) of the sd card listing the Disk it would help
like this

This is potentially what you want to end up with (mines a 16GB sd)
One final thing i would try is re-installing wp7 (DWI.exe from PC.)
(I'm running out of ideas due to my limited knowledge sorry)
Thanks, but it's getting late over here, so I'll give it a try and I'll get back to you later today or tomorrow (if time permits)

well... you do have 2 sd cards i see, so worst case is you use one for wp7 and one for android.
Means you'll have to swap them out every time you want to change OS.. but it should work...
As WP7 loads into NAND you'll have to load an Android built that is SD MAGLDR compatible.
Hey, Canterbury
I found the problem and solution. The problem was with the built in card reader in my laptop. I guess it isn't powerful enough to read the WP7 partition or something; but anyways I found a solution. I used an external USB SDHC card reader to view the files on my SD instead. So now I can see all partitions on the SD
Thanks anyways for trying to help me. I really appreciate it.

Well actually, I have another problem...I don't have wp7 and android goodness; because I can't get DarkStone SuperRAM 1.5 to work with WP7, or any other build for that matter.
Do you have any build suggestions, or general ideas, about this issue?

I firstly assume your on one SD running WP7, and have partitioned your sd for android.
i use Cope's SD GB-CM7
As your using MAGLDR to boot, (instead of running wm6.5 and executing haret.exe) you MUST use an SD Android build that can support MAGLDR usually using a modified rootfs.img and startup.txt files. (Usually you'll have to copy and replace the two files manually)
Ref here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913964 regarding whats going on. If your a linux buff, the instructions may be of use, but further down the page is what you need...
Yeah, you know what? I tired Cope's SD GB-CM7, but GPS doesn't seem to work, and I really need that to work. It's a good build, but I want to be able to have the full android experience via DarkStone's SuperRAM froyo 1.5. So far, I have only been able to boot DS SR Froyo, but then it freezes and you can't do anything else. I guess I'll have to keep searching for clues, or I'll have to go back to dual booting WM/Android

[SD SOFTMOD] [A500/G100W] swap internal 16GB memory with 32GB external sdcard

Tested and working on HC321 and ICS403
In this tutorial I will discribe a way to ‘upgrade’ your internal 16GB memory to 32GB, not by soldering a new memory module to the internals of the device but by the means of a ‘softmod’. This method involves changing some system files and is completly done through CWM and is totally reversable. This is the second version of the softmod and is much safer than the first one.
Someone mentioned another thread in the A100 section, and asked me if my way was the same as that one. I checked it out and seemed that all the system changes were done through scripting. The thread author had actually used the recovery killer script that Acer loads at every boot to our advantage. He wrote a damm nice script for doing the right mounts and unmounts at boottime.
The original thread can be found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20907592
Anyway, I have adapted that script a bit so it can be flashed through CWM, added my own script to it which loads your internal SD in ‘mnt/internal_sd’ and added a modified ‘vold.fstab’ file for removing the ‘detach button’ from the storage info page.
CONS :
-if you use a slow 32GB micoSD card you might experience some speed loss
-by doing this mod, as it involves changing system files, there is always the possibility of ending up with a bricked device, you fully agree to the fact that when your device gets bricked in the process, you and only you are responsible for that !
PROS :
-you will have upgraded your internal memory capacity to 32GB
-you now have high speed access to this 'new 32GB internal' sdcard if inserted in a computer for backups or filling the card up with pictures, music, movies, documents, gamefiles, etc..
-CWM is not affected by this softmod. As a mather of fact if you select the option 'switch to internal storage' in CWM you can actually make use of your internal GB’s for storing CWM FULL backups of your device.
NEEDED :
-32GB sdcard
-CWM must be installed on your tablet
HOW IT'S DONE :
-format the 32GB sdcard to fat32 on your computer
-insert the newly formatted sdcard in your tablet
-reboot or start your tablet in CWM
-flash the ‘CWM - ROMUPDATER [sdsoftmod enable].zip’ through CWM
-reboot
illustration 1
after reboot your storage info should look like this :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
REVERSING THE PROCESS :
-reboot or start your tablet in CWM
-flash the ‘CWM - ROMUPDATER [sdsoftmod disable].zip’ through CWM
-reboot
After rebooting you are back where you were before this mod, with all your files still on the 16GB internal memory. (as they were before this mod)
If you like the mod and want to keep using it, you might wanna transfer all your old folders and files from the ‘/mnt/internal_sd’ to the new ‘/mnt/sdcard’
FINAL WORD :
-Its best not to remove the 32GB sdcard for backup purposes or whatever when the tablet is running. I advise to shutdown the tablet first, then removing the sdcard, do your stuf, reinsert in the tablet en only then fire the tablet up.
Good luck !

CWM stays unaffected, even more so, you can now use the 'lost' gigs on the internal 16gig for storing your CWM full backups. More info on this in the first post.
Is this only for 32 GB Sd card ore als for 16, 8 GB
Is this much faster then normal use of the sd card

Oeps, i see its not smart to go from 16 internal to less.

This method can be used with SD cards of any size, only when your internal memory is 16GB I wouldn't see why you would swap that with a 8GB external SD card, or a SD card of the same size. There's nothing to gain. When you do this mod on the other hand with a 32GB or a 64GB SD card you gain space.
Look at it as if you bought the cheaper 16GB model and upgrade it to a 32GB or a 64GB model, not by soldering in another memory module but the easy way with this softmod.
As for the speed it will be limited by the speed of the SD card. This may vary from SD to SD, faster SDs tend to be more expensive. The card I have used is slightly slower then the internal memory, but it is not an issue.
Hi, is this the same a100 mod with apply on boot? Or have you made some new changes to it. My only concern was the OS might create some file/directories in internal memory before your mod executes.
Thanks

I don't know about the 'apply on boot' mod, this is just a tuto I composed from scratch based on my findings when doing this to my own tablet.
If you want to go in detail about what happens : all of the stuff is done @ boot time, and because its based on setting a mount point, that would be done before the os starts writing stuff down. As for the affected partitions by doing this mod, it only affects the '/data/media' partition wich is mounted by default in 'mnt/sdcard'. This mod just disables the system from doing that and instead mounts your complete external SD to that mount point. After the mod the old files are stille accesable by browsing with your root explorer to /data/media.
Btw : I wouldn't recommend doing this mod on any other device than the A500/G100W as the program that does all the work, was specificly written FOR the A500/G100W !
Tutorial updated to v1.2
All needed files are in the attached zip (first post in this thread), including an easy readable pdf with word accentuation on the hard parts of the tutorial.
The title says 64G. I think SDHC is up to 32G. The 64G should be SDXC.
Does the Acer Iconia A500 really support SDXC?
Anybody tried a 64G SD?
Thanks!

I don't have ics, so i can't realy test that. I think that the mount (read swap) is done at login time, thats when you see the superuser has granted acces message. Then again android could be supressing these messages until userlogin. Who will tell?
I'm just mounting manually at boot before the internal sdcard script runs. Working great! Only issue is storage crashes in settings. Must be an ics issue.

I dont know for sure as mine is the 16GB model, but if its Iconia A500 or Packardbell G100W, it should work without a glitch. I would say, test it out and if it does Ill add 8GB to the thread title.
I have an 8GB A500 that is running Thor ROM vs12 and when I tried flashing the zip file it aborted the installation. Do you know if I needed to wipe the system before installing?

Thats odd. An abort during flash sounds like your recovery is not able to execute the commands during flash. You could have a number of problems there. What recovery version are you using (here it's thor v1.6), also is the downloaded zip in a good condition?

Need some help with App2SD - I *** up.

I am having a lot of trouble trying to partition my SD card so my HTC HD2 has more internal storage for this rom. I succeeded in partitioning it. My Sd card has 'lost' 1 GB.
I used this guide:
Guide On How To Create EXT Partition:
Power on your HD2 and don’t let go of the power button.
DFT MAGLDR Bootloader will then be loaded.
Use volume down button to scroll down to 8th option (8. AD Recovery). And press call button to select it.
ClockworkMod Recovery will then be loaded.
Use volume down button to scroll down to “advanced” and press call button to select it.
Scroll to “Partition SD Card” and press call button to select it.
Then, choose EXT Size = 1024M, then Swap Size = 0M (This ext partition will be used by App2SD to extend your phone internal memory.)
After the process is completed, press back button to return to ClockworkMod main menu.
Select “reboot system now“.

I tried it a second time, but now my 16GB SD card is down to 13GB and the partitions are invisible on my PC and on my phone. My SD card has now lost '2GB'.
I think I am missing some information to get this to work.
Normally I understand everything I read on XDA, but now I am stumped.
Please help me, this is the first time I really don't understand what I have done and what has gone wrong
Setup of choice = EU HTC HD2, Maldr1.13, CWM150, HyperDroid-CM7-Observant-Opossum -v5.9.0-cLK-magldr-signed.zip
Use Easus Partition manager on order to see all of your partitions then just resize as necesaary
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA
The partitions are as they are supposed too. One 15GB, one 1 GB.
And now? How does my phone recognize the App2SD Partition?
You want to know how your phone recognizes the ext partitions? well, no offense but that is none of your business. (jk )
If you want to know how it actually works, that is another long story.
As mentioned earlier by Nigel, Use EaseUs Partition Manager to see/edit the partitions.
And your sd card didn't lose 1GB, that 1GB simply became a partition in a format that is not visible to Windows. But it is there !
Edit:
As an elaboration to my previous post:
You don't need to know how to make it work, Hyperdroid uses an a2sd script (by default) so as soon as it detects one during installation it will be used.
All what you have to do is make the partition, and let the ROM do its job.
So in short; It's already working, but I am to stupid to see it?
I have reflashed, so it should be working. Awesome!
Those cookers keep blowin' my mind with their techie-godlike-powers!
I'm using App2SD now with this rom and the rom is not as stable as it used to be. Did I do something wrong or should I reflash?
"not as stable as it used to be" ?
I've been with HyperDroid since the sd versions. Never had any problems with a2sd, the ROM is always stable, fast & smooth.
Oh I think I might know why, did you actually check the size of your SD card before partitioning? A 16GB SD card has an actual capacity of 14.8GB which would explain why it looks like 13GB is left. Either that, or the one I was sold is a ripoff
EDIT: just saw marvlesz's post and he uses bigger words so he's probably right

No, you are correct. Most storage devices show less than the advertised capacity, you weren't sold a ripoff.
Usually it's like this :
4GB will show 3.73
8GB will show 7.45
16GB will show 14.9
32GB will show 29.8
even my 500GB HDD shows only 465
And so on ...
And I wasn't talking about the lost 1GB from 16 to 15, but from 15 to 14 (13.8) .
Because I thought he had already knew about the actual size of his sd.
Be lit, here : http://compreviews.about.com/od/storage/a/ActualHDSizes.htm
Lol I realise now that I knew pretty much all of that already, but I'm on holiday and my brain is taking a while to kick in The Vatican is mindblowing

I forgot to mention that everything is al right. I am very pleased with Hyperdriod App2SD implementation.
It was the first time I tried this, so of course there would be some start-up issues. After trying a few times, I am happy as ever!
Problem with SD Card Capacity
Maybe it has been mentioned before.
But if you feel uncomfortable with the Formatted capacity of your SD card,
download SDFormatter 3.1 (free)
(I cannot insert a link (yet) so you have to google it)
BACKUP YOUR DATA FIRST, YOUR SDCARD WILL BE WIPED CLEAN!
Then insert your SDCard in your PC using a sleeve (comes free with most micro SD cards)
And choose in SDFormatter: QUICK FORMAT, SIZE ADJUSTMENT ON
This should restore your SD Card to its full capacity (and format)
Then re-insert the Card in your phone and try the Partion SD Card again.
Worked fine for my 2 HD2's

Step by Step:: How To Set up WP7 and Android with NATIVESD / EXT4

All development, links, and information here are piecemealed together from the forums. I have NOT created ANY of the development. ALL credit due goes to the developers who have worked very diligently to create all of this. I have only tried to put it all together for this singular purpose to:
Set up WP7 and Android Jellybean NATIVESD (EXT4).
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU DO TO YOUR PHONES. BE CAREFUL AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDES IN THESE FORUMS TO PREVENT ANY IRREVERSIBLE MISTAKES.
!!WARNING!! For future reference. There is a thread that states the spl uses the last24mb in nand memory, so that the 'uselast24nand' option in MAGLDR might lead to bricking your phone! Information on that found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286104
Also, recommended microSD cards that are UHS (Ultra High SPEED) and/or have fast RANDOM read/write access times. This will speed up Android on the SD.
Get a WP7 rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427611 I am using this one: HD2O_2.02_8779
Legend:
WP7 - Windows Phone 7 (this is an operating system for your sweet sweet hd2)
AD SD - This means Android on the SD. (but can be used for other things, like when you WILL make it be used for EXT4RecoverySD.
FAT32 - File Allocation Tables. Check it out on WikiPedia to get a simple yet nearly comprehensive understanding of what this means.
EXT4 - fourth extended filesystem is a journaling file system for Linux, developed as the successor to ext3. (Taken from wikipedia, just another way to write into storage. Another way would be FAT.
HTC HD2 - Thats your phone. I hope! Yikes! The HD2 is a "Legendary" device. Just google "hd2 legendary", and see what I mean. Goonies never die!
MAGLDR - "MAGLDR is an alternative custom bootloader for HTC HD2 that unleashes the full potential of your device by giving you several options to install Windows Phone 7, Android and ClockworkMod recovery on it, as well as allowing you to boot into these operating systems or recovery" ( These operating systems meaning windows 6.5, WP7, Any Android version. iOS? why bother?)
Recovery - This is what you can use to save yourself, restore, or change yourself. It comes in many different flavors. It's like P.E. Class after you've given up.
Start To Finish (let me know of any gaps, and I will fill them in) ::: Set up WP7 and Android Jellybean NATIVESD (EXT4)
START HERE
Hold down Power and Volume Down buttons on phone, till you see the SPL multicolored sreen. It will say serial on the bottom.
Plug in the phone to the computer. "Serial" will now change to "usb".
Download / Install HD2 Toolkit (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783 )
Click Install HSPL
Hold down Volume down button on phone when it powers off so that it boots into what is now HSPL (same multicolored screen as before)
Now back to HD2 Toolkit on computer. Click Wipe(task29). Click ok. Boot back into HSPL on phone by holding down the Volume Down button on the phone.
Now back to HD2 Toolkit on computer. Click Install MAGLDR. Now as phone powers off don't hold anything down, it will boot straight into MAGLDR v1.13.
On Phone inside MAGLDR (can be booted to by holding down power button, but right now it should be the only thing on it and should boot to it automatically.) Go to option 10. Services. Select option 5. ClearSD MBR. Press green call button to accept.
Press the volume down button repeatedly till you get to USB Flasher. Press the green call button to enter usb flasher.
Navigate to your WP7 rom folder on your computer (extract the wp7rom.zip to get the folder). Double click on your DWI.exe file. Follow the prompts in the following dialogs. This will install WP7.
When it boots up to WP7, you will have a few basic setup screens. Skip signing in with a Windows Live ID for now.
After you're in WP7, go to settings (press right arrow on top right of screen, scroll down, touch settings), scroll down, touch about, notice total and available storage amounts, scroll down, touch reset, touch ok/yes. when it powers off hold down the power button (quickly, if the usb cable is still plugged in it will cause the phone to automatically start) to boot back into magldr. DO NOT LET IT BOOT BACK INTO WP7. If that happens,you will have to 'reset' it from settings again.
Once back in MAGLDR. Remove the microSD card. Put it in your card reader on your computer. (edit: IMPORTANT! i re-followed this same guide on another hd2 with a dif sdcard. the sdcard was a sdhc card of 32 glorious gigabytes, and it didn't work. I now know why, because I just did it successfully. It's because i was using a memory card reader for SDcards not SD,SDHC,SDXC memory card reader. MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE RIGHT MEMORY CARD READER!!) Yes, you HAVE to have a card reader to do this. It cannot all be done from the phone (as far as I know).
From the computer, start EASEUS Partition Manager. (You can get it here, it's free: http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html ) Now, you will see two partitions. You will see a 200mb FAT16 partition and the rest of the space will be marked as 'unformatted'.
Right-click the larger 'unformatted' partition. Click Delete Partition. Click 'ok'. Click 'apply' on top left. Right click the same partitioin and click 'create'. On the following screen, select 'Logical' and 'unformatted' as the partition type (so that it doesn't screw up wp7). Slide the LEFT side of the blue bar over towards the right. Stop it anywhere that leaves the right section LARGER than the left section. You will need enough space on the left for your android ext4 partition and a fat32 partition for media files that will then be shared between android and wp7. Click ok. Let the 'system be updated' dialog (in easeus partition manager) finish.
You will have:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now close out EASEUS Partition Manager. Put the SDcard back into the phone. You should still be in the magldr menu. Select option 1. Boot WPH
Go thru Set up screens. Skip windows live sign in. Go back to settings. Select About. Look at Total/Available storage. It should be the same as the unformatted partition we just got through shrinking in EASEUS Partition Manger. Now, power off the phone, but do not choose 'reset' this time.
Once the phone is off, take out the sdcard. put back in the computer. start up easeus again. right click the fat16. press resize/move. slide the right side of the slider over till you leave about 1.5gb unallocated at the end (for the ext4 partition). Click ok. Click apply.
Now right click the fat partition again. Click format. Select FAT32 and cluster size of 32. Click ok. Click apply. Close Easeus.
Now you will have
And startup Minitool Partition Manager (get the latest one from here: http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html ) You will need the latest one so that you can create EXT4 partitions.
Right click the unallocated 1.5gb partition in the middle. Click create. Select Primary, EXT4, Cluster Size 4kb. Click ok. Click apply. Match settings to this image:
Now you will have:
Right click the unformatted partition at the end (this is the WP7 partition). and select 'set as primary'. ALL 3 partitions will be marked 'primary' now.
Close Minitool. Open Windows Explorer (windows key + E).
Copy your EXT4 Recovery SD (which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869673) to SDcard AND your android NATIVESD/EXT4 rom of choice (which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869673)
Now put sdcard (SAFELY REMOVE ALWAYS) back into phone. Let it boot naturally to WP7 (to make sure it's still there). Then Power off and boot back into MAGLDR. (Remember just hold down the power button (red end call button) when the phone is off to boot back into magldr.).
From Magldr, go to option 10. Services. Then select Bootsettings. Then select AD SD Dir. Then select your ext4recoverysd folder. You will now be back at the main Magldr menu.
Now select option 2. Boot AD SD. EXT4RecoverySD will now load. Ignore errors at bottom of screen. Select Install from SD, choose your android rom. Choose 'Install to SD-EXT'. Leave RMNET CONNECTION unchecked. Click Next. (Always use defaults unless there is reason not to. Default settings are put there by people that know what is going on for those of us that do not. I'm not joking.) Behold Your Glory, Your Android rom is installing in an EXT4 partition next to your WP7 partition. Oh!)
Now it will say it needs to reboot. when it powers off, hold down the power button till you see the magldr menu once more. select option 10 services, select bootsettings, select AD SD Dir. Change it to NATIVESD. This is where your Android OS is located on your sd card.
Back in main menu, select option 2. Boot AD SD. This will boot your Android Rom. After you boot into your android rom, power down, boot back into magldr, select option 1. Boot WPH and see if you still have WP7!
Once you get booted back in follow the set up screens, and this time enter in your Windows Live information:
What you will need:
a windows live account (login / password). just make it from the phone (easier) or go here: https://login.live.com
a wp7 activation code. call this number 1-800-MICROSOFT (1-800-642-7676) (taken from this web page): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2431699
Make sure you can download and install apps from Marketplace in WP7 and from Google Play Store in Android! If that works, then you are all SET!!!
Now to switch back and forth between operating systems. Just power down. Hold down the power button when phone is off and boot back into Magldr. And just Choose option 1 boot wph for wp7 and option 2 boot ad sd for Android.
You are Finished!!! :laugh::laugh::laugh::good::good::good:

I used pdaimatejam wp7 Rom and I used xylo's aokp jelly bean Rom with native sd install. It worked perfectly for me as I followed your steps to the T.

didn't work for me . after i set all 3 partitions to primary wp7 stops working (says sdcard is damaged) so i tried it again without setting the wp7 partition too primary. wp7 works fine but android doesn't recognize my sd card ! ...
(using WP7.8 + tytung's cm9 ics)
edit : i tried it all over again using Minitool Partition Manager only . now it works
I use windows 7.5 and xylos AOKP Jelly Bean (Native SD) at the moment. I would like to update to windows 7.8, but keep the native SD. Is that even possible?
Or do I have to delete everything, and set up Android from the beginning?

when you speak of windows versions, i assume you are speaking only of window phone 7 and not windows 7, correct? look up the build numbers on the roms, i just used 8779 which may or may not be exactly what you are wondering about. don't ask questions before you follow the instructions here. it works for you too.. and if it doesn't work then let me know EXACTLY where it in the steps it stopped working. whether those steps be these or something else. xda-deviants love to find solutions. the more details you can give, the quicker you can meet your desired (fin).

Hi noobinius,
of course I mean Windows Phone 7 in the Versions 7.5 and 7.8, I thought I could spare me the "Phone"...
I'm sorry if my question didn't come along exactly. I already installed HD2O© v2.02 WP7 8779 by HD2Owner. Now I would like to upgrade to Pdaimatejam Rom Wp7.8 without losing my NativeSD-Partition. So my question is, whether it is possible to change the windows phone installation without starting from Task29?!

This only works if your FAT32 partition is larger than your ext4 one.Edit; Or rather, if it is larger than the amount of stuff you have in your ext4 partition.
Backup to pc the fat32 partition and then create enough space on sd fat32 by deleting enough stuff to backup sd ext partition
use 4ext recovery sd "advanced backup sd ext" to backup to sd card.
A folder called clockworkmod is created with your ext4 files in it, save this to pc.
After installing wp7.8 and re-partitioning your card
Re-install "4ext recovery sd" to sd card (and format your sd-ext partition if needed(Do not format sd-ext2, this is your wp7.8))
put clockworkmod folder on sdcard
in recovery advanced menu use advanced restore sd ext
(delete clockworkmod folder to save space)
restore from pc your fat32 files
all done.
ok, this worked very well.
I installed pda 7.8 and nexusHD2.
But I'm facing one problem. My SD card is not detected by android. Its weird because the android booted from the same SD card so there's no way that the SD card is not mounted.
Any1 facing this problem? Or any help?
also.. thanks for this guide !!

Do you have both set as primary and the wp7 is the bigger partition right?

All three need to be primary
oh... missed that line from the tut...
will go home and update the findings...
EDIT: It worked !!! thanks a lot !!
Out of curiosity, can someone explain me why setting windows 7 partition as primary made my fat32 partition detectable by SD??

At a guess I'd say that the sdcard needs to be seen as one single device, it's not the fat32 partition that is seen as sdcard but the whole card
(in partition terms mmcblk0 is taken as sdcard; with partitions being mmcblk0p1, mmcblk0p2 etc.), and I think having both primary and logical partitions causes the mmcblk0 device to be unreadable / broken as a single device.
Does anyone know a good way to make the WP7 partition smaller (less than half of the card)?
This was possible using xbmod's partition CABs ... has anyone achieved it directly using partition software?

From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913815 , it seems that it is only this one-card-method that needs to have wp7 partition larger than android. Probably because wp7 is reset before being installed to the partition.
With two-card-method, wp7 is only switched off and the contents of smaller card are copied to larger one.
So with a careful choice of small card size you can have any size wp7 on larger card. Remember you can first partition your smaller card before copying to larger card, so it does not need to be the whole size of the smaller card.
Should work, any testers?

I tried the instructions given on the thread:
Install the PartitionGuru http://www.eassos.com/partitionguru/download.php
Right click the first partition(fat32 partition), select Modify Partition Parameters(F11), Change the System identifier to 07: HPFS, then apply and close PartitionGuru.
p.s. - this didn't work for me. did it work for you? what did work for you to get wp7 to read the fat32 party we made together? let us know in this thread, so we can all party!!
