cm or ms2ginger? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys!!
i'd like just to ask you your opinion, hoping this is the right forum section
do you think is cm better than ms2ginger??
i know it's a huge question to ask, but maybe just some feedback about battery life and speed (maybe with quadrant values..)
i have a defy+ and after some time with miui pikachu (i really loved it), i switched to cm white rabbit (i love it even more). i have tried 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 version and i think the best one is the 1.3, the rom i'm currently using!
great battery life (2 days with traffic data on, lots of whatsapp messages, some facebook, some browsing, sms and calls) and 1900/1950 on quadrant!
i'm really curious about ms2ginger, after the last months switching rom every 2 days i'm start gettin tired
thanks guys!!
bye

ah sorry, i've completely forgot.. the only bug i have with wr 1.3 is a small delay opening the facebook app.. sometime it freezes but not often! i don't know if it's a wr or a facebook app issue.. just want to share with you guys!

I did use MS2Ginger for couple of days, but now for about 4 weeks i'm pretty happy with CM 7.2 RC1 - stable, fast and pretty good battery life. In my opinion CM is faster than MS2Ginger, just in normal use.

thanks man! did you noticed any battery drop on ms2ginger?

try CM9 ^^
faster than any other rom
video record is buggy
but otherwise rom is pretty stable

i'm really curious on cm9! so do you think i should try it? is it ready for everyday use?? is the battery life long like cm7?
last question..
should i use quartz or epsilon version?
thanks everyone!

Give it a try ans feel the difference yourself. For me, yes CM9 is the best ROM for my daily use.
About Quarx or Epsylon; Both devs are awesome with their ROMs however, IMO as Epsylon's build are regularly updated these days that's why I'm currently using Epsylon's.

Thanks mate!
Then I'll give it a try, maybe with muliboot cm white rabbit and epsilon pics!
I need to do some research to learn how to multiboot and I'll do it!
Let you know!
Thanks

My pleasure. You know what Sharing is Caring! Lol
Anyways you may refer to the following article for Multiboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375156
Good Luck!

If you'll try it in multiboot, be aware, that if cm9 is the second boot system, you won't be able to acces root.
At least i havent been
There should have been a point in the settings, where you should have the possibility, but it wasnt there. Other user on xda, had the same problem.
This was the main reason for me to have cm9 as primary instead of White Rabbit.
I then saw how good it is and didnt install a second boot rom

mmm ok then i'll try directly cm9 for some days and then decide!! it's even easier.. i'm starting getting lazy
just the last question about cm9:
i've read some users have big battery drop with the latest versions.. have you experienced something like that???
because in my wr battery is awesome!
thanks again guys!!!

We are here to share. Sharing is Caring!
I'm using the latest version released on 16th April (My Birthday ) and yeah I also feel the battery doesn't last that much as it was in the 6th April build.
Also I 'm facing slow keylock response at times.

sharing is caring.. i like it
i've tried the latest epsilon cm9 build and i really like it! better than i thought for sure.. really nice UI!
but i have to say it.. it's still a bit slow.. i'm waiting for the latest release of white rabbit plus 1.5.1 this weekend and i'll go back to cm7! it's so smooth and fast... you should give it a try, it's the best rom so far (speaking about the 1.3, i still have to test the 1.5.1)
i'll wait few months more and i'll test again cm9

[Q] Elelinux or CM7 and why?

I have been a user of Elelinux for a long while -- after trying several other ROMs: I simply think it is the best out there in terms of long term stability.
About a couple of days ago, I decided to give a try to CM7 and so far I am pretty impressed with it, but it does have its bad moments here and there with some unexpected slowdowns or FCs.
Which of the two is better in your opinion and why? Also, if you have another 2.3 ROM in mind let me know which it is, so I can give it a try.
Elelinux : Continous development so it's updated frequently, A2SD-EXT included.
CM7 : The development for the hero stopped. AFAIK they don't have a dedicated developer for HTC HERO GSM anymore so it's outdated. A2SD-EXT is missing and if you flash one, you are stuck in a bootloop.
Elelinux is the best i think
I use Elelinux which i think is the best for my hero.
It has been so reliable and fast. not had any problems.
Tried others and none where as good i think.
It is great i can run gingerbread on my hero so well.
Love it.
Well done Elelinux for a great rom.
Long time CM user here.
Changes specifically made for the CM7 hero / base can be seen here:
cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=hero
(The forum requires me to have 8 posts to post a useful link. This isn't fun.)
Also, what do you guys think of Cronos Ginger?
The last CM 7 nightly I Flashed was #22, hero GSM. Very active and stable.. performance/19-748/no-compcache /32mb-vmheap
Had a few force closes due to me pushing it.. but less than i expected at 748..
Avoided good advice .. installed setCPU to try ' interactive ' governor.. What was striking is that after seeing a report after checking mail, twitter, YouTube, etc. I spent very little time @ 748 .. spent most time under 567.. quite smooth.. oc over 567+ really makes little difference for light usage.. wish I kept the report to post here.. just my 2cents..
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Elelinux ROM...
A2SD-Ext include, that's why...
isn't elelinux's rom built on CM7 rom?
it should contains good points of CM7, with more great features

Why is that?
You do know that if you are running Elelinux, means you are running Officially: Cronos.... I do not understand why Elelinux has not been banned because of releasing a rom based fully on Cronos.

Greeting to all of you for creating a wonderful community!!

Hi guys,
I been a silent follower to this forum and respect all the great works done by all the devs, mods & members. I am certainly new to this forum but not in forum world.
I must say i am new to Android phones but not to Androids as i have few tablets for last few years. Its been fun flashing, rooting & using multiple custom roms in my Tegra2 Tablet and so Android does fascinate me like you guys.
Apart from my Iphone recently i got another phone, it's Dell XCD35 / ZTE Blade Gen2. I know ZTE Blade has a great community with tons of customized roms.
Being new to this forum i guess it is taking some time for me read so many thread and try understand different roms available.
Can anyone suggest me any rom where i can get stable performance, good battery life, fluid animation, overclocking & other features.
I am aware of Apha ICS rom and being not so stable & many apps doesn't work smoothly its not my choice right now.
Appreciated for all comments & your valuable time.
I would go for the LG Mode ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442517
It's got pretty good performance, nice animations, and on top of that; it looks wonderful!
Overclocking is possible, and with my Blade running at 729 Mhz and the governor set to "Lag-free", it's even smoother to run. Would definitely recommend that ROM. It's also got a built-in root explorer, and a smooth theme changer app, and a seriously good battery life!

Thanks amelo007 for the suggestion mate and will defiantly look for it. First impression: the rom looks very neat.
Any more suggestion guys?
The LEWA OS is a pretty sweet ROM as well. It's got a cool different interface in the phone settings, and not to mention the homescreen and app-drawer.
The only thing that I find to be a bit silly, is the fact that this ROM is actually Chinese, so there are a few translation mistakes, but other than that, it's damn sweet.
It's kinda quick too! It also has the ability to overclock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428831
i use cm 7.1 n257 for daily use and its awesome and performance wise the best.
use it if u play games and need performance.
lewa os is good and is updated every friday via ota updates but only has 2 languages with some errors in english translation.
if u want to try ics try alpha 5 fix 2 almost evrything is working and its damn good (its my second rom)
u can even try fish and chips its a light and very fast rom if u want a light rom with very smooth scrolling

it just reduces the power supply a bit to wifi and cpu there is no significant reduction in usage but the battery increases.
Thanks all of you for the support.
Thanks all of you for the support.
Truly appreciated.
I think there is a lot of info in this thread to get you going

Post what rom you're on and the reason for it!

I noticed many people who keep asking which rom is the best for battery life, etc....I'm sure that I am not alone in this, when I say that its really annoying. So to solve that problem. I've created this thread :]
I am really sorry for not including many other roms. I only picked on the roms which were at the top 2 pages in the original android dev and the android dev.
Again, I'm really sorry, but as I told another person, you are still more than welcome to talk about it and tell us why you chose that rom
Instructions:
1. Post your rom name.
2. Post which kernel you are using.
3. Why you like it
Optional:
1. What theme you are using.
2. Case
I'll start the thread off:
I'm using CheckROM RevoHD™ V6.
I am using the SpeedMod SGS2 [K2-21 kernel.
I like this rom because of the stability and the battery life. I also really love the kitchen which gives you the endless amount of flexibility to customize your rom the way you want to!
I am using the Ice Cream Sandwich Domination 2.0.3 Godlike!
I am using the SUPERGETS case which I purchased from AmazonUK for £1.70.
PS: Anybody who has a problem with this thread being here can leave right now. I never asked to click on this thread, did I now? (This message is to the people who created the "useless" tags..)
Why don't you have stock rom option?
I'm using stock XXKH3 because it does not restart my phone when on wifi (unlike KL1, KL3, haven't had time and patience to try others). It's stable ant that's what I need.
For kernel, I chose Syah v2.6.12 because of undervolting/underclocking abilities and I run [email protected] UV with battery (2000MAh) lasting for 4 days (and nights) with some light usage.
On top of that I've got GoLauncher for easier customization.

Really sorry about the stock not being on the list. But you can still talk about it. And if you don't mind me saying...That is amazing battery life I get through the day with my stock battery, so I'm not going to complain But 4 days? That is simply amazing!
Have a nice day mate :]
Im running checkrom v6 wit speedmod
But im eagerly watching over the aokp thread as i really want it for the s2. Its awesome on my tab 10.1

CheckROM RevoHD™ V6.
Speedmod Kernel K2-21
Shade of Dusk Theme
Samsung Mesh Case
IMO CheckRom is quite simply the best all round ROM for this phone, it is exceptionally smooth and fast with zero bugs (that i have found anyway) and coupled with Speedmod kernel offers superb battery life, plus the Kitchen Pro allows you to customize your ROM the way you want, ive been using CheckRom since it's inception and i cant see me using anything else barring ICS.
You haven't included Rebel ROM in the poll list.
Using Rebel ROM with Siyah Kernel because of its battery life and the SE Launcher.
Hands down has to be Checkrom v6. Using NEAK kernel and both are match made in heaven. Best rom on GB. Regarding ICS. I have to say cm9 will be my next rom once that is stable. But knowing what Leo and GC will do once they get their hands on the official ICS stuff now that will be one hard choice to make..Hopefully the dualboot project might come to effect by then
Ps what Jonny said above i could not have put it any better..Well said mate
cyanogen mod9
default cm9 kernel
because its freaking fast smooth and has incredible battery life

Sorry if I may come off sounding rude or anything. But is dual booting really that useful? I mean sure you can boot into miui and cm9 or cm7. But is it really that important? Or is it just a feature that you would like to have because it sounds and looks cool?
Would really appreciate if you could shed some light on this subject!
Thank you and have a good day.
1. Checkrom V6
2. CF Root LA4
3. Best balance of battery life and performance, sure other kernels can give better results on the battery side but I've got a 2000mah battery and charge nightly. Just everything works well with stock kernel. Will try out RedPill over the weekend.
4. Vert's ICS from Kitchen app,
5. SGP Neo Hybrid EX in black rotated with Sena leather pouch when I'm on my feet all day and need all body protection.

Thanks.
Samsung has comfirmed that it will come out on Q1, and Miui v4 are coming on 29 Feb so people are rumoring that it will come on 1st March.
If ICS will come out I will probably use the original one since I have a big problem with touchwiz, it hurt my eyes
hi
using- krinyo xwla4 slimrom + phenomenal 4.0 extreme.
why because i tried many roms and this gives no fc is smooth fast and the kernel is for battery life. developer support this rom and is very helpful. if u go to his threa u can see that are not 100000 post in wich many user complain about errors or other things. i think u dont need many words just try it and u will be amazed.
and put this rom in poll too.
currently using stock LPH with its own kernel, the only thing i modified is the modem which is LP6
after i tried ICS i couldnt go back to GB so with my current setup im getting awesome battery life, no fcs so im pretty happy with it

Well in a perfect world for me it would be nice to have access to two roms that i enjoy instead of restoring and backing up and reflashing. As you say it is a feature that sounds and looks cool but i am pretty sure we shall not see the light off. Yeah it might be possible and i think few devs have already tried it but it really has not taken off. It was more of a figure of speech i used it mate. Like i said it would of been great to use both ICS checkrom and cm9 as dualboot but that is a if and but...
So like i said best rom for me at the moment is checkrom as you can see from my sig. hope this clarifies a bit more
Checkrom v6
Darkknight 2.5.2
I flash a new firmware every 2nd day but I always go back to Checkrom and Darkknight because Checkrom is amazing with its kitchen etc and all other kernels like siyah, neak or redpill drain my battery in about 6-10 hours while on Darkknight I can use the handy for about 24 hours. Same usage. Maybe those devs could take a look at what Darkknight does right.... But I think it's really frustrating to be excited to flash a new kernel which praises "best battery" and after some hours your phone turns off.....

Best MIUI

Well firstly, i have more knowledge in Sense roms, so i firstly dont know what MIUI even means, but ive seen quite a lot and heard their battery life make sense roms look quite terible.
Anyways, i was looking for a very stable, fast, fully functioning, nice battery life and feel, MIUI rom.. anyone have some suggestions? Getting bored or sense.
Miui 1.12.9 has been pretty stable for me. The only issues i have is the front camera not working (i believe that's the case with all aosp roms) and text messages over 160 characters won't split and send, so u have to break them down manually. Besides that Miui is, in my opinion, the best rom I've tried.

You need to get caught up.
MIUI 2.3.2 is the most stable. There is a 2.3.9, but I haven't tried it yet, nor seen much about it, but 2.3.2 (actual version is 2.3.2_b1 es) is very very stable. No issues at all. None.
You have to do the sense GPS fix (or one of the GPS fixes) before you flash it and if you read my guide, in my signature, you'll get a good walk through on how to flash it, DT A2SD, the kernel (Tiamat 3.3.7 or 4.1.0), etc.

What he said. I'm running basically the exact same setup, and it runs flawlessly. There's a lot of theming capabilities, plus it's easy to create your own themes, so it looks great too.
I tried MIUI because I was bored with regular AOSP. I thought about trying Sense but it wasn't my thing so I tried out MIUI. I've ran it almost exclusively for a year now. Swiper's build is great, get the ES version and you get the extended settings mod built in.

I've been wanting to try it, how do you like it? Any noticeable issues?
The ONLY issue is that the only text app that really works is the native, but it's having probs with pics. If you have Go SMS, et al, even turning notifications off in the native, they still come in on the native and on Go SMS... twice, so I just froze Go SMS until I need to d/l a pic. Other than that, it's smooth. Comes with some great native apps and the best battery utility I ever saw. Options everywhere!

[Q] which quarx cm10 nightly is most recommended right now?

Hi,
Reading around the forum a bit, it seems like some are moving from the latest cm10 (12/5) and going back a few builds. I seem to remember being happy with one of the builds from Nov. but I don't remember which exactly.
Anyone out have recommendations for their favorite cm10 nightly? which seems most stable? which is quickest/smoothest?

i have got defy green lense with new defy plus original battery hf5x and universal battd by quarx. it charges upto 100% 4167mv without a drop of single percent.
