[Q] Elelinux or CM7 and why? - Hero, G2 Touch General

I have been a user of Elelinux for a long while -- after trying several other ROMs: I simply think it is the best out there in terms of long term stability.
About a couple of days ago, I decided to give a try to CM7 and so far I am pretty impressed with it, but it does have its bad moments here and there with some unexpected slowdowns or FCs.
Which of the two is better in your opinion and why? Also, if you have another 2.3 ROM in mind let me know which it is, so I can give it a try.

Elelinux : Continous development so it's updated frequently, A2SD-EXT included.
CM7 : The development for the hero stopped. AFAIK they don't have a dedicated developer for HTC HERO GSM anymore so it's outdated. A2SD-EXT is missing and if you flash one, you are stuck in a bootloop.

Elelinux is the best i think
I use Elelinux which i think is the best for my hero.
It has been so reliable and fast. not had any problems.
Tried others and none where as good i think.
It is great i can run gingerbread on my hero so well.
Love it.
Well done Elelinux for a great rom.

Long time CM user here.
Changes specifically made for the CM7 hero / base can be seen here:
cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=hero
(The forum requires me to have 8 posts to post a useful link. This isn't fun.)

Also, what do you guys think of Cronos Ginger?

The last CM 7 nightly I Flashed was #22, hero GSM. Very active and stable.. performance/19-748/no-compcache /32mb-vmheap
Had a few force closes due to me pushing it.. but less than i expected at 748..
Avoided good advice .. installed setCPU to try ' interactive ' governor.. What was striking is that after seeing a report after checking mail, twitter, YouTube, etc. I spent very little time @ 748 .. spent most time under 567.. quite smooth.. oc over 567+ really makes little difference for light usage.. wish I kept the report to post here.. just my 2cents..

it should contains good points of CM7, with more great features

Why is that?

You do know that if you are running Elelinux, means you are running Officially: Cronos.... I do not understand why Elelinux has not been banned because of releasing a rom based fully on Cronos.

Fastest Eclair rom

Looking in the Adroid Development forum, there seem to be lots of Eclair roms out there. Some in very early alpha stages, others which have had many revisions. And with the camera fix, it now seems that most/all issues of usability have been addressed.
Just so I don't have to flash ALL the Eclair roms out there, can someone pose their experience with these Eclair roms, and which they prefer for day to day usage on their G1?
My current rom is the latest Cyanogen rom. How are the Eclair roms speedwise compared to the Cyanogen roms? Are they responsive, or sluggish?
Hopefully others can benefit from your experience with these new roms.

using JAC's xRom 1.0 and its very smooth, with the exception of video playback. I'd say its almost onpar with cyanogen. Using the 10mb ram hack for both xRom and cyanogen.

Im using manup 1.5 with the 10mb rom hack mod (posted by another member) and it is blazing fast...almost as fast as the super d i was using and i don't get any fc except on bootup the stuff starting up says fc/wait and you just pick wait then its fine.
i'd highly recommend it and everything is smooth on it. video playback looks fine.

Ive worked with two or three different eclair ROMs, and I can say, as a generalization, two things:
1) RAM hack == good idea. G1 seems too sluggish without the extra RAM, especially once I get all my programs going. Not a 3D gamer, so it hasnt shown any down side from my point of view.
2) BFS == bad idea. Don't know if this is just me, but any ROM I've tried that has been based on BFS has been significantly less stable. FCs, hangs. Ive even had the music app just stop entirely on me once or twice (something that I've never had happen on other ROMs, even Hero ones. Maybe one of the Devs will make up a better ROM for this, but as of now... meh.
Just my two cents.
Glad Dwang (really, what's a dwang?...) hasn't made an eclair build yet, or this would be "Oh, look, that thread again!"

Well
In my experience Dwang was the fastest 1.6 I tried, Dwang is his name - David Wang or something like that, But your right sadly he ain't made a eclair build which is a little disappointing as that would of been my option & this question wouldn't be needed...
This Question: What IS the most fastest & stable eclair build out there, something like Dwang 1.7.1 but for eclair.
By this I mean not the fastest on start-up after flashing as all ROMS are fast on start-up, I mean after a week of use with a bucket-load of apps installed & if your using mods (e.g 10MB RAM Hack) add that in your post so I know how to get it as good as I can.
I believe my details of phone I'm using are in my sig but because some don't notice it no matter how bright you make it then here it is - HTC Magic 32B (also know as the Sapphire 32B & MT3G).
Your guys help will be great.
Thanks

I need speed, stability, and multitasking.
I use Pandora and Navi at the same time pretty regularly, just to give you an idea.

I tried the TMUS rom and it was ok, but battery life and speed are nowhere near on par with my oem androoted donut. Is TMUS about as good as it gets?
I'm thinking of trying superE, biffmod and maybe a couple of the other ota remixes next. Maybe even CM5 again.
Try Super E and Chromatic 3.9.1 because Froyo still have buggs.
the bugs are out of froyo for a while there is "stable" imo cyanogen rom and there is the OTA with a little tweakage in the dev section...
Complete eclair 2.21 is awesome very quick very stable havnt got an fc yet ive been using it for about a day im frequently changing roms and i think you can ram hack on complete eclair so it will be amazing anywho good luck

Fastest 2.3 rom?

Which is the fastest 2.3 rom? I use setcpu to overclock on every rom. Tell me your opinion
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA Premium App
Its all down to personal choice really
So far I like Elellinux's Roms and Feeyo's they both are the best so far for me....
I tried the elelinux rom but i had so much freezes especially when someone calls me. I used overclock again. Can you pm me some 2.3 roms i could flash? thanks

www.hrdb.tk - take a look at the roms on my homepage. the latest releases are the best. at the moment feeyo (cronos) and elelinux are working on their roms. so you should choose one of them.
EliLinux had some issues the last release, but the latest release is very stable for me, and is pretty fast.
I current have Elelinux's v2.1 build of CM 7.1 / Android 2.3.4 on my phone, and it is running quite well. I have not tried 2.3 yet. Feeyo's Cronos Ginger 2.2.0 is getting some very positive feedback. I had CG 2.1.0 for a while, but the default kernel just did not play well on my phone, so I had gone back to CG 1.9.5 for a bit.
I tried Elelinux's v2.2 and Cronos 2.2, while Ele's seems to be a little smoother, the battery life isn't good at all. On the other hand, Cronos 2.2's battery life is great, but I missed all the CM7 options...
stantang, i have the same problem as you described ;/ used ele's rom but it sometimes freezes when incall comes... I've flashed almost everything from iPasta's site but don't have my favorite.
Best way for me is to wait for CM7 stable for hero (but how long should we?).
Back to thread, fastest for me was Ele's, but i had problems with GPS so i don't use it any longer.
Hello.
Elelinux's one is great !
Cheers.

Feeyo's Cronos Ginger 2.2.0 working like a charm for me.
I will try out mentioned roms when i have time currently my Folio 100 tablet's Honeycomb port keeps me busy thanks for the answers!

Elelinux FTW
I've tried Cronos, Herolatte (my current daily rom because its pretty) and Elelinux. I would definately have to say that elelinux is the fastest and most stable ROM. Cronos is pretty damn good as well (I love the font on it) and Herolatte has sense albeit it's a little slow at the moment. It all comes down to personal choice but with the number of flashable extras, sheer speed and stability of it, I have constantly found myself coming back to Elelinux.
..And they said Hero would never get to taste the Gingerbread...
EleLinux alll the wayyy baby

[Q] Various ROM testing: Daily stable builds

By "stable" I mean something that is used for more than a month as a daily work horse build. I've tested various roms trying to settle on ROM that I use for daily use. My requirements are thus: Decent battery life, no lag, full functionality, of course.
So, rom flashing/testing aside, which ROM do you folks seem to settle on when you aren't testing and want a daily work horse rom? I just can't settle on one for one reason or another. If it's not battery, it's lag or both. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from a phone of this age, at this point. Last rom I used for the longest time was froydvillain before I started messing with the GB roms.
I dunno, what say you?
VR 13 works very well.
Maybe a GB ROM like Cronos would be good?

Vr13 is the 2.1 rom based on the WWE update, ya? Perhaps that one is best since it's based on official HTC release. Pity they never did a 2.2 update.
That's the one. I know, it would've been since.
2.1 repacked by elelinux or Cronos Ginger 2.2.3 this become update frequently by Feeyo
Cronos GB is a good choice indeed.
The Elelinux rom is very stable, I had some force closes with Villain ROM 13, and also with the Modaco one, no force close with Elelinux (base on Android 2.3.4).
If you don't want your phone to be laggy, try adw launcher with that (the faster I've used, even though I prefer Go launcher), don't use too many widget etc, keep it simple.
Cronos is indeed good, although he has recently moved away from CM sources. so that means you wouldn't get the set of Cyanogen specific enhancements. It will be pure AOSP + whatever modifications he made.

What is the best ROm

Hey folks, what is the best ROM you have ever tried for Wildfire, and why?
CM7, very stable and because it's gingerbread. Also frequently updated and in my language (dutch)
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
CM7: rich in features, allows overclocking, activity in bugfixing and many more great features and community.
CM7.1 Nightlies all the way! They are stable and fast, especially after#149.

Really Depends if you want sense etc etc theres plenty of good roms.
Well CM7 runs quite slow after a day or even less, even if you overclock...it's because Gingerbread is quite demanding on this little fellow.
You could try Cm7 Nightly 151 and Rempuzzle (sense froyo with widgets+WIL script+cm7 kernel for OC) and see there is a big difference.
Personally, I liked CM7 a lot, and still do, since i've used it for half an year or so, but a stock android just can't bring what I need, nor market apps, but htc sense does.
I hope I helped. Good luck with your choice.

I do agree that CM7 is much better .......but there are some flows in it...
Like……… dialing pad is not much attractive, pathetic Radio app, SENSE is not much attractive .......etc.................that my point of view
thanks guys for you advice, I have tried CM7 but it was a little bit laggy, also I tried Wildbuzzle, but now I'm using original ROM I think it's more stable than the other ROMs.

Most stable Desire Z ROM?

Hi
Currently Im on Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 RC1 nightly 414 and while OK, the other day it had a HORRIBLE (unbearable) slowdown period. Even multiple restarts didnt help. Finally it seems it fixed itself but Ive looking for something new. I use Go Launcher if that makes any difference. Im into speed but I think Im going to go with stable over speed this time.
What ROM do you recommend? Also nothing broken (automatically discards all CM9 ROMs)
If you are into Sense UI, go for Virtuous ROM, stock ROM tweaked + enhancements. If CM7 works if you are into vanilla ROMs.
I have been using virtuous glite 2.0.1 its stable I had no issues at all and I get great battery life, plus its slightly overclocked. Gslim1.6 is also very good but I had better battery life with glite. Both roms are based on GB 2.3.4. Here is a good rom index thread it lists all G2-Desire Z roms

Yes, Im aware of the list but I wanted user feedback.
(Im not talking to any of you or anyone else Dont take this the wrong way at all as it is not a insult to any of you). Its funny: People ***** (a lot) when their ROMs go bad but when they are great, they dont say anything at all.
WOW G-lite is VERY old...
and i like ROMs with features; stripped down versions are not for me
sound like you will be most happy with elitemod, the cm7 based rom although i have been testing out nik3r's ics rom and like it better than most ics roms, i would go with his gingerbread rom. should be all you are looking for and great support from nik3r as well

Damn I'm still happily running it! If it works great why worry how old it is. It's a testament to how well it works as it sits. anyways I'm waiting for a stable cyanogen 9. Then maybe, frankly I don't want to mess with it too much I want plain Android and I can customize it from there

I don't think you have tried much of the Sense ROMs back then, or maybe you were doing something wrong. I have had quite a few stable and fast sense ROMs. Of course they were not as fast as vanilla ones, but it works, knowing that you are the type who wants more features in ROMs.

Have you tried a CM9 Rom lately? Don't let the Beta name scare you, I have found the latest andromadus audacity extremely reliable, and everything works. I actually think it has less bugs then my stock htc GB rom.

Same, though I'm still tweaking my SetCPU settings and such, I like EliteMod's ICS rom the most right now particularly in terms of features and responsiveness. I was trying the unofficial CM9beta13 for a couple days and that thing was eating battery like no-body's business. EliteMod seems to be much more tweaked as it's the same setup Nik3r is using for his own personal Desire-Z.
But far as stability goes, I would agree that going with a Ginger rom would be the best bet, ICS right now is still too experimental in my opinion.
I've never tried the CM7 version of EliteMod, only the official CM 7.2.0 which was ok-ish for me. The EliteMod ICS Rom to me feels much faster and responsive than even the stock CM7rom, and I much prefer QuickPix app the EliteMod uses over that slow-arse Gallery app in CM7.
I would recommend andromadus mimicry (ics) its pretty stable and everything works (for me at least). It has the ics specific flaws like scrambled text in app drawer but launcher restart fixes it. Using this rom for 2 weeks and had this text issue 1 time. Battery is good also
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk 2
You should try Elitemod cm7 it has never failed me, all the features you need, speed and stabiity plus amaizing battery life. If you wanna go ICS get the cm9 elitemod, but it is still a bit buggy.
I tried a lot of roms, and I always came back to ILWT CM7 (not new versions). Sense roms are quite good but not on Desire Z (too small amount of ram memory, multitasking on sense roms are poor - even on sense 2.1 roms with supercharger script). I waiting for stable CM9 (and yes i tried all versions of CM9 but text glitches and manually change apn to send/receives mms, makes me nervous).
That is only my subjective opinion
Anything CM7 based is very stable. Probably the most stable of all. Stay away from CM9 or anything ICS on this phone for another few months in terms of stability.

Going to install the Beta14 right now, the ALPHA 1 month ago had a lot of issues... but that was 1 month ago. Will post back...
Try Quadrasense! Not true that rom based on CM9 is not stable....
Quadrasense is very fast and stable
inviato da HTC Desire Z
For most stable overall rom I would recommend the latest ILWT CM7. For most stable ICS rom I would recommend the Andromadus Mimicry rom.
