Hi
Currently Im on Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 RC1 nightly 414 and while OK, the other day it had a HORRIBLE (unbearable) slowdown period. Even multiple restarts didnt help. Finally it seems it fixed itself but Ive looking for something new. I use Go Launcher if that makes any difference. Im into speed but I think Im going to go with stable over speed this time.
What ROM do you recommend? Also nothing broken (automatically discards all CM9 ROMs)
If you are into Sense UI, go for Virtuous ROM, stock ROM tweaked + enhancements. If CM7 works if you are into vanilla ROMs.
I have been using virtuous glite 2.0.1 its stable I had no issues at all and I get great battery life, plus its slightly overclocked. Gslim1.6 is also very good but I had better battery life with glite. Both roms are based on GB 2.3.4. Here is a good rom index thread it lists all G2-Desire Z roms

Yes, Im aware of the list but I wanted user feedback.
(Im not talking to any of you or anyone else Dont take this the wrong way at all as it is not a insult to any of you). Its funny: People ***** (a lot) when their ROMs go bad but when they are great, they dont say anything at all.
WOW G-lite is VERY old...
and i like ROMs with features; stripped down versions are not for me
sound like you will be most happy with elitemod, the cm7 based rom although i have been testing out nik3r's ics rom and like it better than most ics roms, i would go with his gingerbread rom. should be all you are looking for and great support from nik3r as well
Are you looking for a gingerbread or ics rom?

Damn I'm still happily running it! If it works great why worry how old it is. It's a testament to how well it works as it sits. anyways I'm waiting for a stable cyanogen 9. Then maybe, frankly I don't want to mess with it too much I want plain Android and I can customize it from there

I don't think you have tried much of the Sense ROMs back then, or maybe you were doing something wrong. I have had quite a few stable and fast sense ROMs. Of course they were not as fast as vanilla ones, but it works, knowing that you are the type who wants more features in ROMs.

Have you tried a CM9 Rom lately? Don't let the Beta name scare you, I have found the latest andromadus audacity extremely reliable, and everything works. I actually think it has less bugs then my stock htc GB rom.

Same, though I'm still tweaking my SetCPU settings and such, I like EliteMod's ICS rom the most right now particularly in terms of features and responsiveness. I was trying the unofficial CM9beta13 for a couple days and that thing was eating battery like no-body's business. EliteMod seems to be much more tweaked as it's the same setup Nik3r is using for his own personal Desire-Z.
But far as stability goes, I would agree that going with a Ginger rom would be the best bet, ICS right now is still too experimental in my opinion.
I've never tried the CM7 version of EliteMod, only the official CM 7.2.0 which was ok-ish for me. The EliteMod ICS Rom to me feels much faster and responsive than even the stock CM7rom, and I much prefer QuickPix app the EliteMod uses over that slow-arse Gallery app in CM7.
I would recommend andromadus mimicry (ics) its pretty stable and everything works (for me at least). It has the ics specific flaws like scrambled text in app drawer but launcher restart fixes it. Using this rom for 2 weeks and had this text issue 1 time. Battery is good also

You should try Elitemod cm7 it has never failed me, all the features you need, speed and stabiity plus amaizing battery life. If you wanna go ICS get the cm9 elitemod, but it is still a bit buggy.
I tried a lot of roms, and I always came back to ILWT CM7 (not new versions). Sense roms are quite good but not on Desire Z (too small amount of ram memory, multitasking on sense roms are poor - even on sense 2.1 roms with supercharger script). I waiting for stable CM9 (and yes i tried all versions of CM9 but text glitches and manually change apn to send/receives mms, makes me nervous).
That is only my subjective opinion
Anything CM7 based is very stable. Probably the most stable of all. Stay away from CM9 or anything ICS on this phone for another few months in terms of stability.

Going to install the Beta14 right now, the ALPHA 1 month ago had a lot of issues... but that was 1 month ago. Will post back...
Try Quadrasense! Not true that rom based on CM9 is not stable....
Quadrasense is very fast and stable
inviato da HTC Desire Z
For most stable overall rom I would recommend the latest ILWT CM7. For most stable ICS rom I would recommend the Andromadus Mimicry rom.

Hey folks, what is the best ROM you have ever tried for Wildfire, and why?
CM7, very stable and because it's gingerbread. Also frequently updated and in my language (dutch)

Really Depends if you want sense etc etc theres plenty of good roms.
Well CM7 runs quite slow after a day or even less, even if you overclock...it's because Gingerbread is quite demanding on this little fellow.
You could try Cm7 Nightly 151 and Rempuzzle (sense froyo with widgets+WIL script+cm7 kernel for OC) and see there is a big difference.
Personally, I liked CM7 a lot, and still do, since i've used it for half an year or so, but a stock android just can't bring what I need, nor market apps, but htc sense does.
I hope I helped. Good luck with your choice.

I do agree that CM7 is much better .......but there are some flows in it...
Like……… dialing pad is not much attractive, pathetic Radio app, SENSE is not much attractive .......etc.................that my point of view
thanks guys for you advice, I have tried CM7 but it was a little bit laggy, also I tried Wildbuzzle, but now I'm using original ROM I think it's more stable than the other ROMs.

Relatively new to the G2, and I'm looking for a daily driver without having to experiment with 10 roms that all have one deal-breaking bug.
I like sense, which is good because it looks like pretty much all of the recent roms are sense or miui. I really wanted to have a sense 3.0/3.5 with 3d widgets, but it doesn't look like there are any stable, fast roms in this department.
So what's your go-to rom? I probably will start experimenting with all the newer roms anyway, but I want to get set up with a stable fallback first.
Thanks
As far as an AOSP ROM goes, I believe that meXdroidMod is hands down the fastest thing I've ever installed and it also has great developer support too. Here recently I've been all about MIUI so right now I'm running tun4fish's Bulletproof Miui. I'm in love with the speed and stability of this rom and the amount of customization you can do with it.
All in all it all boils down to personal preference. I like flashy, customizable roms so those two fit me. Play around and see what's right for you

I switch between CM7 and Beatmod Blissense. I prefer a more pure android, but I do like the UI and widgets in Beatmod.
Been running Bulletproof MIUI the last couple weeks. Solid daily driver with all the features I need and no issues.
When I get bored, I switch back/forth between CM7 and MIUI.
Been a meXdroidMod convert for awhile now. Really really fast and everythings smooth! Developer support is awesome too!
I started out with trying Virtuous Unity and Virtuous Doubleshot but found the Sense 3.0 ROMs were to slow for my DZ.
Settled for Virtuous Sense for the time being which is perfect for me. Also tried out Bulletproof MIUI just to try something completely different but that was definitely not for me so I returned to Virtuous Sense.

MIUI would be my daily driver. Speedy while still looking absolutely beautiful. Either of the builds by CarpeNoctem or Tuna4fish would serve you well
lots of love for MIUI here
as much as I like it too the OP said he likes Sense, so for me after trying absolutely every ROM with Sense, i like the InsertCoin. It has the battery and speed of your 2.1 Sense ROM but all the cool features of Sense 3.
I'd like to stress on the battery life - it's absolutely fantastic on InsertCoin.

I agree with this statement 100%. Absolutely the best and my favorite ROM out right now.
I'm currently on CM7 nightlies. CM7 is by far the fastest ROM I've used, and it just gets faster when you overclock it. If I get bored, I'll use tun4fish's Bulletproof MIUI for a change of pace.

Just got a Hero again a few after i got my old one destroyed.. Back then there wasnt even made a custom rom, so now im going to ask here.
What Custom Rom do you guys recommend ? I have tried allready tried ChocolateFroyo and SalsaSense 4 .. However none of these two roms seems to perform good enough for me to use..
Actually its not that i want that much.. I just want a Android 2.x rom with a good performance and OC kernel + HTC Sense.. I just tend to stick to the 2.2 roms because 2.3 has too many bugs and i've heard that the Android 2.1 roms still suffer from the Random SMS sending issue..
Can you guys recommend anything ? Thanks !
If you want performace, go Vanilla Eclair. If you want Sense and over 2.1, it is a bit trickier. You can try Herolatte, but if you think ChocolateFroyo was too slow, there probably is no current rom which suits you.

I reccomend Kimera 3.0. Its almost as fast as Vanilla, IMO a bit more stable. I used it for around a month, and recived all my texts, and calls. Only problem is that there is no Apps2SD if you use Fly13 (It's the best kernel imo)

Using Cyangenod released by Elelinux. It contains the latest android version 2.3.7 and is very stable. However this rom is in my opinion not very fast.
I've only really tried a few, sense roms are always slow with all the features. Try elelinux speedmachine running 2.2, I don't know of a faster rom, I haven't tried them all though.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I've always used VillainRom 13 - nice and fast with Sense. If you don't need sense then VanillaEclair seems to be the best judging by what I've heard. I used Elelinux's Gingerbread for a while and that was nice too, but I like Sense too much
Good GB rom
The decked again Hero CDMA ported rom is the fastest GB rom I have tried ALOT of them, so I would recommend that for you!
I use
I use Elelinux-7.1-Hero-Custom-v2 on a every day basis.
Works fine, no FC and quite fast.
I can recommend it.
If you want a fast, stable build I'd recommend Villain Rom since the hero was build to support Android 2.1 and you'll have sense. If you like new and improved and are no stranger to tweaking I'd recommend HTX zero rom wit Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.5. Very cool and fast.I use it daily now.
VR13 and the new release Heroine++ are the fastest for the hero. (if you like sense to much)...if you like AOSP you go for a CM rom or others
for aosp i tested:
1.CM7 - CM team
2.Eles Rom
3.OMFGB - JieeHD

AOSP (android open source project) is regular android with no overlay like Sense or TouchWiz.
Non-AOSP is android with an overlay like Sense.
Sometimes the AOSP rom is faster because there is no extra overlay.
It comes down to preference - look and feel.

Hello everyone,
I am the unhappy owner of an HTC hero which is performing far toooo slow.
I decided to move from my original 2.1.1 to cyanogenmod 7.1 a few months ago, it was good, but far too slow. I kept it for good 2 months before eventually decided to give some other roms a go.
So i switched to chronos 2.4.4, far quicker than cyanogenmod, but still crawling..
My biggest problem is maps and waze, they are too slow to be useful...
chronos has shown to be also unstable, with the bluetooth causing lots of FC and phone going unresponsive for seconds...
Now, im fed up again.
I woudn't mind to go for android 2.1 or 2.2 i do not really need 2.3.3..
So i was wondering which rom to put on my hero.
Any suggestion?
It sounds like Vanilla Eclair is the ROM you want! It is old, but by far the fastest Rom out there
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
Heroine ++ is a 2.1 sense rom and is very fast
Decked_X is a 2.3 aosp rom which is similar to cm7 but a lot better in my opinion and is possibly the fastest and most stable gingerbread rom you'll find
You could also try Elelinux's Speedmachine V5 which is a 2.2 rom. Its based on cm6. Its my current rom and seems stable and fast. I haven't tried many 2.2 roms so there may be something better out there but this one seems good to me

Unfortunately there is no fully working sense 2. 2 Rom. Camera issues. Still would love to see one though but hardly any development going on these days
at the moment im trying the heroine
quite snappy compared to chronos and cyanogenmod
battery seems a bit weak, 12 hours life more or less...
lets see how it goes
Try the new nightly off the thread of Pure CM 7.2 RC0 KANG ROM.. Speedwise I think it's better than decked. I mean comparing this to heroine, it sure is a tight one. Give it a shot you won't be disappointed.
I've just started using [ROM][2.3.7] LiGux (Coopoui) (RC2.0 - 01/12/2012)[Port] which is fast enough for me and before that the speedmachine rom which was also quick. I think what you might need to do is use an older version of your software rather than expect the rom to pick up the slack. The problem I see is that the maps etc is newer and slower on our older phones. So for the best combination why not get an older rom and an older version of your software (ex maps) and not update them?
At the moment the battery issues are fixed and the rom is going pretty well
quick and snappy it has its hiccups from time to time but i think is mainly because new version of apps software should be called bloatwares instead.
unless the phone starts to crawl again I will stay with this rom..
I am interested in running ics on my int. Note. What is the most stable ics rom out there?
My note is stock + rooted

Stunner, stunner period!!!
It depends. Would you like a complete stock Android experience, or would you like Samsungs S-Pen apps and features?
For the first one Imilka's is great. ICS Stunner, stock android, with lots of tweaks and options, is also a good choice.
If you would like the second, Midnote 3.0 is pretty good.
I'd recommend trying at least those three roms out.
It is difficult for people to recommend roms because of each user specific needs and requirements.
You will have to test them out yourself.
I'm on Midnote 3.0 at the moment and it's pretty good for normal use in my opinion.
Midnote because it's the only one that's given me fully functional Flash.

I tried ICS for the past couple of days, was using Stunner and Imilka's. I used Midnote 3.0 for 5minutes, realised my modem was not working and switched roms (lazy to fix hehe .. All ROMs were speedy, especially setting the UI options to 0.5x performance (not sure what is the exact name of the settings, all i know is that its in developer settings). I can't comment much about the 0.2GHz increase, but it didn't really bother me when i was on LP1.
Between Imilka (was using v7), Midnote 3.0 and Stunner (4.3, latest LP5), Stunner suited me the most because there were less bugs, the ability to change from phone to tablet with more convenience. Mainly Stability/functionality/convenience (eg toggles) issues. Battery life on ICS was not bad, draining 1% for every 1.5 hrs of deep sleep in 2G+Data. However running apps caused my note to be warmer and drain was higher compared to GB.
However Rocketrom v23 + Franco Test kernel still pulled me back to GB today with S-pen full functionality + stock photo editor/ on the fly editing for screenshot. Stability and awesome battery life contributed much as well.
