Screen imprints from protective cover - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

I just bought a note and in the shop the guy removed the factory fitted screen cover with all Samsung marketing stuff on and fitted another for me, however, I have imprints of all the shapes and writing from it on my screen, especially prominent on a grey background and it is annoying the hell out of me.
I'm not sure whether to rip the screen protector off in the hope it just needs wiping on the surface or whether to go back to the shop.
The phone hasn't been on for it to be screen burn, but has been in daylight and possibly bright sun.
I taken some pics I hope tapatalk won't screw with too much, attached.

I'd rip the screen protector right away and clean the screen. Hope it'll come off ( or maybe it's on the screen protector ). If that won't help, i guess you should take it back to the store.

I've seen a post just like yours months before. It's definitely not a burnt out screen because the imprint is the graphics from the Samsung screen protector. The guy you bought it from should have cleaned it thoroughly first before putting on a new screen protector. You should go back then show it to him and then get a replacement.

This is what I suspected but I fear the sun has burned away the rest of the screen leaving bits under the the protector.
I'll take it to the shop this evening and he can remove the protector and wipe it and give me a new one or he can replace the phone too.
Edit: took it back and swapped it. He had no white ones left do had to get black, wasn't happy at first but black looks better next to my SGS2. screen is perfect on this one, never did figure out the cause of the problem but at least I'm sorted now.
Manufacture date is a couple of months older than the white one but nevermind, I can live with that.

Putting on InvisibleSHIELD...

So, I was putting on my InvisibleSHIELD full body armor earlier... but no matter what I did there are still quite a few small bubbles under the screen protector. The sides and the back are fine except for the piece between the headset port and the proximity sensor where it leaves with a bit of space which won't fit perfectly around the corner.
Will the bubbles on the front screen gone after a while? What should I do with that piece next to the proximity sensor?
Thanks!

Did you remove the pre installed Screen Protector?, which imo does a very good job and is the first phone I have owned installed from the factory.
Give it 2 days. All the microbubbles will go away.
I put this on my 17" laptop. It was next to impossible to remove them, but after several days they all went away.
Im still waiting do install mine, the 12hours dry time just makes it a little hard.

Its hard to call it screen protector. I already have few scratches with using the pouch. So from me i can only give it a big D.

Well it's doing it's job then as the screen protector, you will hopefully always be able to take off the factory installed protector and find a pristine screen underneath.
I hate fitting screen protectors myself, they always looks a mess so I am glad that this phone came with one factory fitted.
My factory fitted screen protecting film was set quite badly, it had little wrinkle and couple big air bubbles so I took it away and set the one that came with the phone, its been working good except lately it has start going off from my screen corner for no reason? it just won't stick anymore.
2 3 days and bubbles will be all gone worked on mine..... invisibleshield works really well
If you end up with any larger bubbles or some that don't seem to go away (which most all of them should disappear on their own) you can get yourself a very fine needle and poke as small a hole in the bubble as possible and use a damp cloth to push out the air.
Put one on my old iphone and as soon as i did my dog took to the texture and started chewing it I ended up with a "flap" if you will and even that smoothed out nicely over time. Great product, although the smaller pieces will eventually start peeling off at the edges. Mine is in the mail from Zagg for my new X10. Being very careful with it until then.
Double screen protection
When you opened the box the screen has a film used for shipping. Some have said that this film was bubbled. Than under that film is real screen protector that is already attached to the phone. A second screen protector is in the box and is an extra.
To be clear there are three films to protect the screen.
1) shipping film covering the screen and a screen protector that is attached underneath this to the screen itself. (often bubbled) (easy to remove)
2) the actual screen protector that is already attached to the screen and is under the shipping film. (look very closely and you can see the edge) (will not come off easily)
3) spare screen protector to be used at a later time.
Sounds to me like you boys put a screen protector on top of a screen protector
There was already a real screen protector? like i thought i saw on my htc touch? which was hard to pull of but i did it, after that the phone didn't react to touching anymore, oops! it was the layer of the screen responsible for receiving pressure from touching.. i hope it isnt the same with this phone.. that would really suck

well the touch had a resistive type screen the x10 has a capacitive type.
so peelin of the pre applied on the x10 makes no diff.
but remember the pre applied film is less a screen protector and more a shatter proof sheet which helps to keep the piece of glass together in case the screen breaks..
ok, thanks for the information, now i know it wont kill my phone to take it off, which im not going to do, also then i know i dont have to be worried to death about scratching my screen

so I really cant tell here if you guys have removed the factory installed protector prior to placing the Zagg sheild on or not.
If yes, how the heck did you get it off?? And if no, did it seem to affect the responsiveness of the screen?
I have my protector and I just want to make sure whether or not I should or should not remove the film (protector or not it is frigin on there......tight).
I just peeled of the preinstalled screen protector with my fingernails (i probably have to cut them ). It took me about 30 secs and was quite easy to do. I wouldn't recommend anything sharper than your fingernails. Using your own body is the easiest way, because you have full control of your finger and get a "feedback" on how to remove the screen protector.
My InvisibleSHIELD is drying since 18 hours and I'm gonna wait till it dried 24 hours. I'll tell you in a few hours if there are any differences between a XPERIA with a preinstalled screen protector and a XPERIA without a preinstalled screen protector but an InvisibleSHIELD.
Have a nice day
well I just went ahead and put the screen on right over the preinstalled one, and I must say that I got it on there about as precisely as is possible. No bubbles and it looks great! Also no change in screen responsiveness as im using right now with swype keyboard. Works perfect.

Ok, I couldn't wait to use my phone again, so I powered it on and in case of responsiveness there aren't any changes with the preapplied one removed and the InvisibleSHIELD installed. I'm even more amazed by the white one now, because it now has some kind of grip on its backside. Before installing the shield it was definitively too slippery.

How is your screen holding up

I decided to remove the rubbery screen protector I've had on my phone since I got it. Love how easy it is to scroll without it. I do know the screen can get scratches but not sure how common it is. What kind of shape is your screen in if you are not using a screen protector?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
I used to never put a screen protector on because I never drop my phone and take care of it.
I have a holster and never put it in my pocket and I never got a scratch on it. The screen does good on its own.
I put on a screen protector because it came free with a phantomskinz skin and kept it only because it like 100% eliminated the grease that comes from your finger and there's no need of having to wipe your phone every time you turn it on so I kept it.
I usually never use screen protectors and this phone does have a good scratch-resistant screen so just don't drop it or put it in your pocket with other stuff and you shouldn't have to worry about it scratching up ;p.
I have one VERY light scratch on the screen, you really wouldn't find it unless you were looking for it. Had my Vibrant since August. I tried applying the screen protector that came with my OtterBox, only to find that I still suck at applying them. So I've given up on them.
I gotta say i'm loving no screen protector. Hoping the Gorilla glass holds up til I get a new phone. Screen looks so much sharper with no protector as well.
I took it off too less than a week ago, all good so far and i second what you about how good the screen looks without the glass protector.

I kept one on my first vibrant but have not put one on my replacement. I've had it about a month and so far so good. Unless something really crappy happens I doubt the screen will get messed up before I replace it with a new phone.
I've had my Vibrant since August. Had a screen protector on it the first week. After that I never did and had no scratches at all until I bricked it in February. New one and same deal no screen protector and no scratches.

I've been very luck screen-wise. I've dropped the phone several times (including this morning), and the screen has no major scratches. This without any protector. I've heard mixed things about Gorilla Glass, but it definitely seems tough to me.
It does have burn-in. That's really its only flaw IMO. It puts my HD7's screen to shame in all aspects other than size.

I've had my Vibrant for 6 months, no screen protector. And thankfully not even the smallest scratch. Still looks brand new. I try my best to keep it safe. It's my first smart phone and I love the AMOLED screen to death, it's my precious.
My screen is bad....no scratches but it is dying out....i have verticalll lines tgat go across the screen that r not as bright as other pixel. Ive only had my vibrant 4 like 4 months

had the phone since release date with no screen protector or case. dropped it on a parking lot once tailgating and the screen is still flawless.
Good to hear everyone. Looks like my phone will be fine not wearing protection. LOL.

My screen is clean and quite 'vibrant' since day one--never a screen protector since launch day. If you buy a $400 phone, you best keep good track of it and respect the fact that it is a $400 phone.
Never understood the need for cases and protectors--just treat the damn thing like it is worth and you will be fine.
bought mine in late august. Still no scratches... well ok one very tiny about as long as this _ thats faint. No protector and i keep it in my pocket with my wallet. Usually try to avoid putting my keys in the same pocket.
I'm won over on gorilla glass.
Got my Vibrant at launch in July and have never had a screen protector on it. I usually leave it in a lightly padded case when I'm not using it though sometimes I'll throw it in my back pocket by itself if I'm in a hurry. I've also managed to drop it face down onto a parking lot. That one made me cringe.
The best part? No scratches or other damage whatsoever. I'm pretty pleased with the resilience of the screen.

Take it to Tmobile and get a replacement before warranty runs out
I dropped mine down 2 flights of steps (it skid down the steps), and all I got was a bunch of very tiny scratches on the screen that can't be seen unless you actually look for them.
In normal lighting, you have to angle the phone to see it.
Any other phone would have a crap-ton of scratches (the phone also took a 6 foot drop when I first dropped it, before it skid), so yeah, I love gorilla glass. <3
I may get a replacement, but except for the screen scratches, my phone has no issues. GPS works, everything. I don't want to exchange this perfect phone for a phone with a good screen, but can't overclock, and has GPS problems. >.>
I think I'll just stick with it unless T-Mobile will give me something else.
when I had the Iphone I had screen protector all the time but since I switch to vibrant I never had to put screen protector on it and still looks like new
but keep in mind not to abuse it

xoskins and xtreme guard screen protectors

Hiya guys,
I was just wondering if anyone else has either used xoskins or xtreme guard protectors and been left feeling disappointed? I originally had an SGP ultra on my nexus 4 but I was feeling a little annoyed that it didn't cover the full screen. Other than that they're perfect, nice screen hardness difficult to scratch and leave the screen looking amazing. I really thought the xoskins one would be perfect so I paid the price and ordered (shipped from US to UK).
Finally arrived, installed straight away. Let me just say I've fitted lots of screen protectors before to various phones and I'm pretty good at it. So much so friends and family ask me to do theirs for them. Still, the xoskins one felt a little fiddly. The solution they provide makes it very slippy, so using the squigy afterwards made it squirm around which was annoying. Also, even though both sides were wet the squigy still left slight burns after only 3-4 swipes. It took a full 48 hours for it to dry.
The cut on the protector was good, and it was nice and clear. It seemed to leave a slight orange peel effect across the screen though, and I had 4-5 thin rainbow type lines/scratches about 1cm long on the one side which were clearly on the underside of the protector (all perfectly straight and all facing down perfectly so I'm thinking manufacturing fault?). The feel of the protector was frankly awful. It flexes under finger and restricted swiping somewhat. Worst of all, any slight knock leaves imprints. I tested it by lightly rubbing my nail across it, it left a clear mark that was there for 2-3 days! It flexes way more than I'd like, I can't see it providing much protection from knocks tbh. Granted I wouldn't do this in normal usage but any other knocks left imprints too.
So I removed it, and thought I'd try the xtreme guard. My god, I've never used such a rubbish protector. The cut is dubious at best, the screen clearly looks worse when its on and it suffers from the same indentations and flexing as the xoskins ones.
Maybe I've been spoilt by the SGP ones (I still have the back protector SGP skin on there as its a perfect fit as its flat) or maybe all wet application protectors are like this to be more flexible for the curved glass?
Either way I've ordered another set of SGP protectors and I'll put up with the exposed edges. I'm sure there's people out there that are happy with their protectors, but I just wanted to share my experiences.
Wet applied screen protector can never compete with the dry one..even the $1 junk one.
I took off my Xtremeguard and using the junk that came with my nillkin case..which is still much clearer than the xtremeguard.
But I keep the back of xtreme since it make it less slippery.
Glad its not just me who found this then I can see how having a *stickier* back protector could be beneficial. The SGP one I have is still rather slippy. Hoping it will help strengthen the back though in case it has any accidents The SGP ones saved my iPhone 4 before. One was a drop from my ear onto a wooden floor!
It's nice to read that I am not the only one who dislike the Xtreme guard screen protectors.
I just cant believe how sticky it feels and how much it gets scratches and dents.
I've got a fillkin flip case comming my way as well so I think I'm also going to replace the front xtreme guard screen protecotr with the nillkin one.
One thing to keep in mind for all wet protectors is that when you need to push out the bubbles, never used a squeegee. It is very difficult to avoid burns on the surface with a squeegee. Instead wet your finger tips and push the bubbles out with your finger. Much easier and doesn't leave burn marks.
If you absolutely need to use a squeegee, the paper one provided by SGP (ironically) is pretty good for wet protectors. Use the corner as much as possible and don't push too hard.
I myself prefer dry protectors as well but there are indeed some good things about wet ones. They are very scratch resistant, provide more grip, and doesn't show finger prints as much.
The xo skin i have is trash the front has so many random Knicks and bubbles and stuff the back does too but I'm going to leave that on and just use these 3 for $5 screen protectors from amazon until the glass protector comes out with reviews

I am using the XG and granted it has it's orange peel look to it, but I don't mind it. The look reminds me that I have a sp on and I can safely put the phone in my Seidio holster without looking. LOL.
Yes, the screen looks way better with a dry sp on, but I am happy with the cutouts and fitment. And plus doesn't affect the Diztronic Ultra hard case at all when taking off or putting on. Which is good IMO.
Am I 100% happy? No, I say maybe 96%. But for the price of 3 front and backs for 6 bux. I can't really complain too much.
Xtreme Guard are excellent. You just need to take your time applying it and pushing out the bubbles. Minimal orange peel and the protection is perfect around the curved edges.
After having mine on for nearly a week i'd still disagree. I have no bubbles or marks on the xg but it does have the black spots issue I've read about which suck! The cuts off on mine everything is aligned perfectly with screen edges but 1/4 of the camera lens is covered. Honestly its not how I fitted it. The feel is also pretty bad. I genuinely cannot wait until I get my new SGP ones.
Xoskins replied to my email about 4-5 days after I showed photos of the defects. They are sending me out a new protector at least. Will probably sell it on eBay to claw back some cash.
I'm not going to bother emailing xg as they're cheap and tbh I won't be going near their protectors again!

The problem I had with XO Skins was that the protector for the back of my n4 had a little pin hole in it! Luckily they are replacing it free of charge, including shipping! Which is good cause I'm in the UK and did not want to pay to send it back to the US.
The protector for the screen however has been brilliant, I've had it for about two weeks on there and the sort of rubbery feeling goes away and it feels very similar to the glass on touch. If a little more squishy. It does not drag against my finger anymore.
As for bumps leaving marks, I've noticed that, but they always go away within about thirty seconds.
All the bubbles have disappeared on my screen and its very clear.
I definitely agree with the OP about the application process though, the solution makes it very slippery, which is good when trying to position the skin. But when using the squeegee to push out the air bubbles and liquid the skin moved everywhere. After that though, it dried family quickly, did leave it overnight anyway.
I'd say I'm pretty pleased with my XO Skins purchase.

Why not? I'm talking about the front facing camera not on the rear. My SGP ones arrived this morning so the xg one was ripped off almost straight away so unfortunately I can't take you a photo to show you.
The cut was definitely off, there was some extra material right in the dip of the cut out that goes around the lens as if it hadn't been cut cleanly. The dip wasn't rounded like it should of been. Maybe I just got a bad one in this respect, but it shows there is very little quality control. Especially as mine also suffered from the same black spots I've seen elsewhere.
The bottom of the protector was literally up against the chrome rim, I couldn't of positioned it any lower so it wasn't due to bad positioning. It was just poorly made.
I've just ordered a Nillkin case which will hopefully help protect the bits of glass the SGP ones miss. The feel and screen clarity is so much nicer!
Well, xoskins replacement arrived today. It had been put into an envelope that has a bright blue lining and the edges of the protector now have a lovely blue haze. Great! It didn't even have a piece of card in to stop bending etc. so lucky it survived at all.
Not even worth trying to sell it, If I purchased one off ebay myself and it had this haze I'd be gutted. Really disappointed with them.
I did notice they seem to of changed the design too. My previous xoskins one had a U shaped cut out for both the front camera and the proximity sensor. This new replacement has O shaped holes for both so that there is something actually protecting the top edge all the way along.
That sounds like your first one was a case fit and your new one is a full skin. When I got a replacement it came sealed in a baggy, crazy. I would hit them up again.

The first one I had definitely went right up to the chrome edges on every part other than the top by the proximity sensor and camera where there was a U shape.
I'll drop them another email and see what happens. They can only say no.
Well, what can I say? I'm using the xg for the front and for the back of my nexus 4 and I'm very pleased with it. I have them on for about 2 weeks now and everything is well..
The cut of the xg protector is one of the best out there. In my past galaxy nexus I used a clear screen protector and every 2 months I had to change it with a new one because of the dust that got under it... Causing to many bubbles.
That's not the case with the xg protector. This thing is not going anywhere.. And I also use it with the official LG bumper case with no problems..
I'll try to upload some pictures for you to see.. The only disadvantage is that the feel of the xg protector is worst from other clear screen protectors, using the dry install method.

[Poll] How's your Xperia Z1's back holding up?

Good afternoon fellow XDAers!
Here's a poll question for you: how is the back of your Xperia Z1 holding up?
The question is especially for those of you who haven't used a case.
I've received my Z1 just yesterday, and today I already noticed a hairline crack of about 4.5 centimeters high. I have no idea what could've caused this as I have only put my phone down very carefully. Considering this is just day two of carrying the device, and since I'm not planning on getting a case for it (I like my phones how I like my women - ifyouknowwhatImean ; ), I'm really wondering how the back holds up for people who have carried the device without a case for a couple of months. The only thing I don't like about its back, is the fact that the factory screen protector seems to scratch too easily. I'm not afraid of breaking it, but I'm not taking this protector off either.
So please, share your results, show some pictures if possible, tell me about your experience with handling the Z1's back.
I tried taking a picture of it with my Xperia S but that failed. I may try using my D5100 if you're interested in my Z1's back.
problem i have is that back panel is sticking out slightly in the corner where camera is at.
basically i am having this problem:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/08/0...ose-back-panels-water-resistance-compromised/
i dont have warranty so i sent my phone to a random shop and they applied some glue to that corner which resolved the problem
but now it seems the problem is coming back again (panel getting unglued again)

B-buttt... I thought that was only an issue with Xperia Z devices, not with the Z1?
Darn, I really hope I'm not affected by that. I already got a yellow display from that 'lottery' it seems...
EDIT: also, doesn't every electronic device come with a 2-year factory warranty? That's what I've heard.
Nillkin tempered glass screen protector saved my device.
I have frame (rubber) case but I'm not using it because I don't like the look of device in it.
However, the other day I bought new Nillkin SP and when I peeled old SP I saw device is perfectly saved.

Used to use a thin case but took it off. The phone looks too good to have it covered. I bought the Skinomi full body skin protector and it's pretty good. I don't feel scared about handling my phone a bit roughly since it's pretty much wrapped in a plastic sheet.
I bought two front screen protectors, since both the front and back side of the Z1 have the same shape i just made a cutout for the camera and pasted it in the back
So damn hard to find a back protector here

Haven't had any problems with the back yet, touch wood, but the front collected scratches so easily. I bought some Z1 membrane screen protectors and took the front Sony one off to replace with one of the new ones and to my pleasant surprise it has actually made the touch sensitivity a lot more responsive! I've left the back Sony one on and just covered it with a membrane one.

Pretty much pristine condition, metal-slim bumper w/ nilkin glass screen protector on the front and skinomi on the back. My only issue is that the skinomi protector gets really icky real fast, like slimy, due to the moisture of my hands.
No scratches front or back, no case, no screen protectors, and i've dropped it twice

That's why it scratches so easily. It's just a screen protector.
Exactly why I made this poll, I was wondering how bad it could get.
At the Mall on Friday and ran into the Ghost Armour kiosk so I decided to have them apply a screen protector for their $25. Had micro bubbles for a day but by Sunday all traces of bubles are gone and you can't tell there is any screen protector on the phone. I also have a slim hard case that covers the back which should be arriving today so I should be good to go with protection.
http://www.wirelessground.com/puregear-sony-xperia-z1s-hard-shell-case-black.html
The screen does scuff up very easily so be careful until you get some sort of protection on it. Also screen response is just as good with the additional protector on it.
I had a light scratch on the back of my Z1. I put on an Armor Suit protector on it and the scratch no longer appears. As well, the Armor Suit heals itself from scratches... it just looks great now. I'm also caseless.
JF
Scratchs, SCRATCHES EVERYWHERE! lol
But they are not noticeable unless you're TRYING to looking for them. If they where a screen at the back I would INSTANTLY remove the ASF.

Tho with most phones the colour starts to fade or wear on the side of the phone, however the Z1's case not a problem.
ALTHOUGH... they say its dust resistant? Ive seen more dust accumulate on the front and back than ive seen on the a glass table that never gets used ?

Dust resistance means that dust won't get inside the device (possibly heating the device). It doesn't magically repel dust off the front :silly:

Stained screen? Smudged screen? I dont know...

Hey guys.
So yestreday I was using my phone with a light in the room. And I decided (since i now have the s7edge for about 3 weeks) to check unde4 light if there already are any microscratches
... and there are some although I take care of my phone like its a newborn baby. But its also only visible under light. So, the microscratches didnt really bother me... i noticed something else. Its like a stain or a smudge on the edge of the screen, on both edges actually... left and right... and they are not even the same, they are not symmetrical. At first i thought its just dirty but after rubbing it, it didn't go away.
So what I did was, I washed it under water (mind you, this was THE FIRST time I got my s7e under water).
I cleaned it good, wiped it good. But it is still there.
Then I went to google about this and found nothing... all i found, worth checking was some guy who said he had a gap between the FRAME and the SCREEN, and that he had sent it back to get that fixed (and it took samsung like 3 times to send him a good phone). So i checked that video and some people in the comments were reporting that the gap between screen and frame is so big that they can put a piece of paper under there. I of course tried it myself out of curiosity and ny phone also has the GAP between screen and frame. And after i washed it yestrday.... i noticed some water in between the edge and screen... inside that gap.
Now guys tell me those anyone else have that smudge or stain? Does anyone know what it is? (Remember it was there before I even got the phone wet for the first time)
And tell me does anyone else have the gap between screen and frame? And did anyone else notice a little water between screen and frame in that gap? Does it mean its not water and dust proof? I must say that I got it wet pretty good under tap water, but it is still working perfectly... i am just afraid now that there is a ways the water will get into that gap someday and ruin the phone. I really hope this is normal and its just how the phone is built and it is till waterproof and dust proof... but i water can get into that gap i do not know how it can be dust/water proof....
Thank you for all the help guys!
Oh and here are the pictures of the screen smudge/stain. I only took pictures of the left side of the phone screen. 4 pictures. 2 are original, other 2 have a marking so you can easily spot what we are looking at.
And you can maybe try to the gap between frame and screen, but i am not sure it will be possible,as i took that picture to show you the smudge, stain and not the gap.
Also I must say that this smudges are on both sides of the screen visible ONLY when the screen is turned of, or if you have a black wallpaper and if you dont pay attention to it you can hardly even notice it, even with black screen or turned of screen. Its the easiest to see under strong light.
is that the same place for the gap between the edge of the screen or thats for the cover section at the back of the phone.....
also ste you using a screen protector or that stain is directly on or inside your actual screen did u use a screen protector before or not at all
Hi there,
The gap between the screen and the frame is normal. Every phone has it, and I have it also, was multiple times in a swimming pool with the phone and it still works. About the smudge, I do not know, it seems like the oleophobic coating of your screen is weared off. Maybe send it back if it bothers you much?

Hi, I had the same problem, a while ago, with a Sony device. I thought it is water in the first, but I send it to Sony to be save, and they replaced the screen. It was a part of the screen, it peels off, and sticked on the screen-glass.
Nah its not really bothering me... but i dont know what it is and i got scared a little. Like i said it not really visible unles you tilt the phone and turn it under a light or sun.
I dont know how could the oleophobic coat wear off because the phone is 3 weeks old. Bought it three weeks ago, tottally new.
I dont use screen protector but i do have a spigen case.
So I guess its what Pufnasti said. The screen peeled off and stuck to the outer glass...
Pfunasti, should I send it back so they repair it?

I used my brand new Sony deVice only 2 days, and I get this problem. I would say, you should send it to Samsung. It's definitely a hardware problem, and it wasn't caused by you.
