It seems my accelerometer has died. Level apps don't register any change. Apps don't register landscape vs portrait. I've seen a couple other threads via search, but has anyone figured out if its a hardware or software issue.
If it's a software issue, I'd try flashing a new stock rom, or resetting the phone to factory settings first.. and see if that fixes the issue... if it doesn't its prob hardware.
I would like to confirm a second case. My accelerometer died about 6 weeks ago, and reflashing did nothing.

If you are able to, I'd warranty the phone for repair.

Ive had a few customers come in over the last week with screens that wont rotate. i read on the t-mobile forums that sometimes you need to tap the phone to get the accelerometer "unstuck" (which has never fixed it). instead i did a master reset and it fixed the issue on all the devices. one phone had tons of apps installed, which could have been an explanation, but today the guy had a brand new one purchased yesterday w/ no apps that wouldnt rotate until we reset it. he says it rotated at first then stopped.
and fyi, rotation was enabled in the settings
any ideas? it seems software related.
Hi mate, this site shows you how to fix it:

Have the same issue. 3 hours ago i had no problems with the accelerometer at all. everything was working fine.
then all of a sudden i notice that its not working. only change i did was upgrading from RA recovery 1.2.1H to 1.2.3H. after that, all was still ok. then now its not working all of a sudden.

tried that. still not working.
Compass app is not pointing north,
abduction is no responding to tilts.
followed the instruction to the letter. and still nothing.
could this be a hardware issue?
Same issue.I've tried redoing sappimg.nbh still nothing if I restore nandroid backup, fresh wipe tjen update rom it will work fir a bit then dies.evwn tried amon ra fix in recovery.
EDIT: Fixed my issue! Found that my case hsa metal in the back part, this has become magnetic thus stopping my gsensor
I have a pda flip case from ebay like this.....
So, I've been having the screen sensitivity issue, jaggedy drawn lines, randomly typed keys, etc.
Now, has anyone else done the same?
As the problem is intermittent, what're the odds they'll actually fix it?
Also, is it actually going to be gone 2-3 weeks or do they usually turn around quicker?
I miss it already
mine was gone for 24 days, all it needed was a software flash. overall, good service, but could be quicker......
if they just flash the software I'll not be happy, I could do that myself.

I have this issue too, and I read about it on some other threads as well.
I'm not really sure what is causing it, but its more likely to be a hardware issue rather than software.
Although my friend bought his HD2 recently, and his phone doesnt have this problem. I guess this issue is fixed in newer HD2s
You can see this thread for discussion and videos about this issue
their service is worst ive ever know...4 weeks so far....never going to send my phone to them, rather send it to dodgy kev from the pub to fix
Hi guys .. Well I recently got my HTC Desire Z about a month ago, and still like having it for one week or so, I've had this problem that my Desire Z keep going unresponsive when its looked .. That is to say, when its locked and I press the power button to make it light up so that I can unlock it, nothing happens .. its doesn't light up .. In such a condition pressing or doing anything doesn't make it light up so that I can unlock it and use the phone .. My only option is to take the battery out and re-insert it and then turn on the phone .. This happens on average like once a day ... Also, I havent really figured out what may be causing this .. it just seems random ..
Other than this the phone works fine in every respect .. It locks and unlocks fine and there's no major lag or anything at any time ..
Any ideas what may be causing this ? Does it sound like a hardware issue of a software issue ? Could an application be causing this ? I admit I installed like 50 apps on my phone within the first 24 hours, and have been installing more apps regularly ..
I would return it for a different device. i do not have this problem and havent had any problems with my G2. good luck!
Do you by any chance use a custom rom like CM? I have had this same problem with some of the earlier releases of CM7, and eventually fixed that by doing a full reinstall with wiping Data and cache as well.

What he said!!!
Not to be mean but this is the second thread in two days that references a common problem with multiple threads to it.
Google or search HTC G2 random lockup freeze battery pull.
There's a few things you can try but ultimately there is some kind of design flaw with the phone that affects quite a few units. G2 is not the only one either.

Nope, I'm using the stock OS, and stock everything else as well .. I haven't started fooling around with such things yet ..

So are you saying its a hardware issue ? If its a software issue, can I maybe flash the stock OS myself ?
The cause isn't known. Its pretty thoroughly discussed here (with my personal thoughts on the issue at the end of the thread):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908095
And more recently started threads about the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995415
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986204
I personally think that its either software related, or combination of software and hardware, as I've seemingly been able to fix the problem by flashing a different kernel.
Most DZ's don't have this problem. So if you are still within the exchange period, I'd return the phone for a new one.
I would try a factory reset and use it without installing apps for a day or so and then re-install your apps one a day until you find the problem. When Skype first came out I had the same issue. If it's still the same after wiping it then for sure take it back.
Well so I called HTC Support about 10 days ago, and the guy whom I spoke with told me to go into the Applications area in Settings, and do a 'Clear Data' for the application named 'HTC Sense' .. there were two applications in my case with this same name, and he told me to do this for the one which has 'HTC Corporation' written under it .. This essentially restores the desktop configuration to the factory one .. That is, all widgets are placed as they were originally, and the wallpaper is the original one too ... I did this and for the past 10 days, my phone has reset only 2-3 times, instead of happening every single day ... I still use the phone just as much as before ...
So what could this mean ? And what should I do now ?

No offense, but you are kinda asking the same question of what to do, over and over. Several people have given suggestions. Have you tried them, and if so, what were the results?
As already suggested, one thing to try is factory reset, so the phone is clean. Use it for a few days with no extra apps and see if you have any SODs.
If you are still within the remorse/exchange period for a new phone (30 days for many carriers in the US), I would exchange for a new phone.
If you are not within the exchange period, but under warranty, you can try to send it for repair. But at least one other person on here did that, and the phone was returned as "repaired" with absolutely nothing changed on the phone, and with the problem still existing.
If you are rooted, or willing to root, I'd try a different kernel. On the stock Desire Z ROM, the Godspeed kernel removed the SOD problem for me.
Not everyone flashes their phone, but all of us suffer from bugs.
I thought of starting an exclusive thread just for discussing the bugs present on the official SGS2 Firmware.
With the experts here, hopefully they can be clarified, resolved and become history
So, i'll start with the bugs i found.
My firmware version is I9100GDDKL1
First issue
When i get a call and answer it, the screen times out, as the proximity sensor signals it to. But often AFTER the call, and after i take the phone away from my ear to hang up, the screen does not come back again, instead it goes blank black. The call is still on as i am not able to press the end call soft button.
Pressing the home key OR the power key have no affect, it last for 10-20 seconds maybe and then it comes back on its own AFTER the person on the other side hangs up.
Any ideas? This is a sensor, or a software glitch?
Second Issue
Sometimes the phone just loses connectivity. Alot of times its within the city. Its odd, because normally others using the same network do not face this issue.
I have to then manually re-connect to the network.
What issues can these be?
Third Issue
I have noticed this twice now. Phone starts acting funny, as in no signal and does not restore it. I restart it, but when i do, the entire home screen and app drawer is gone. Its blank. All other phone functions work just fine.
I restart again a couple of times, but no luck. So i finally open the back cover, take out the battery, sim and SD Card and put them back again. After that when i switch it on again, it works just fine.
Software or Hardware problem?
This thread is a great idea i think.
My firmware version is I9100XWLP4.
I have only one issue, the same as the first issue in the op, been using this firmware for about a week now, and thats the only problem i have come accross so far.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jesse
My PDA is i9100XWKI4 and GB on it.
First two issues are happening with my SGS2 also, but twice in a week or thrice in a week only. I think proximity sensor have some HW issue.
For calls, even phone shows good signal, but calls are dropped, before I thought it was the problem with other end party, but realized that it is SGS2 problem.
My firmware is i9100xxlpq and I have none of these issues. Maybe you could try flashing the rom I'm using.

We can solve alot of issues by simply flashing it, but i wanted to know if there is some way that we can solve them with simpler adjustments/enhancements?
Also if we conclude that something is an hardware issue, then we should just go to a service center and get it corrected, shouldn't we?
There isn't a great deal you can do about most 'problems' if you stick to stock & don't root or run custom firmware.
Short of sending it back to Samsung. Who will probably only flash the latest firmware (if there is any) if the problem isn't hardware related. Which you could easily do yourself.
Rooting/running custom firmware gives you the ability to solve problems that otherwise wouldn't be fixable (and definitely produces problems that otherwise wouldn't happen as well sometimes obviously).
I don't disagree with you that rooting/ flashing custom roms will solve most software issues or atleast lead a way to solving them.
All i am saying is, that is there a way to solve some of these problems otherwise.
Also we can find out if our phone has an hardware issue, because if some problem is too uncommon, then it probably IS isolated and can be a hardware fault.
I think all do update their firmware. I Infact changed to the latest one recently, but it didn't do any good.
I am not against flashing man .
Just keeping it as a last resort.

ICS BUGS thread search please we dont need another one .
Hardware is relatively simple if you do not have a problem on GB firmware then it is not hardware .

This is not for ICS alone.
You mean to say there can be NO hardware fault at all?
I originally had this audio problem around 3 weeks ago while playing a game so I rebooted and it was working fine again.
A few minutes ago, exactly the same problem has happened again and a reboot hasn't resolved it, this time.
Here's a recording of the audio problem I'm having - http://db.tt/aqB3EM0W
EDIT - Again, it has sorted itself out but there's still clearly an underlying problem to have caused this.
If anyone's had this problem before, could you let me know how you fixed it and roughly how much it cost (if you took it to a repair shop)?
Thanks in advance

I had the same problem.I just opened the back cover and hit the mics with my finger several times. Since than I am not facing it anymore. I'm not telling its gonna work for you but you can give it a shot.
I had this problem as well but I fixed it. I found out the culprit causing it was the ROM that I was using. So I flashed back to stock and the crackling was gone! Whew.

Completely stock. Not even rooted. Since I edited the OP last to mention that it's fine again, it hasn't done it since but there's always a chance it could do it again.

I think the problem must lie deeper than that somewhere because I stayed stock for a few months after getting it without a problem. I then decided to root + flash some ROMs, still with no problem. Then I had no problem for ages even after coming back to complete stock again.
I think I'll just have to wait and see if it does it again and then take it to a mate who'll be able to find out why it's done it and probably fix it
