Many Thanks. - Kindle Fire General

Purchased a Kindle Fire recently, and flashed it with The Reloaded CM9 Rom... browsed all the others, and read the guides... Much thanks to all the devs and the time and dedication you all take out of your lives to bring us joy on our devices

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if there were no xda (shudder)

I too want to THANK ALL of you guys/gals out there that have taken the time to build tools that help unleash all that the KF can do. Also a big THANK YOU to those of you that have had problems rooting/flashing to bring us step by step answers to our problems once we start the process of rooting.
I started coming here when I had an HTC phone and wanted it to be different (a couple of years ago)..........
From an old lady's perspective, you guys/gals have always identified and fixed problems that a lot of us have when we don't clearly know the jargon that is used and give us a "recipe" of how to fix things!
Many many thanks to all of you!

{Poll} First time android device

Alright guys I came from the Evo community I just have a quick poll. If you respond, respond truthfully.
1. Is this your first Android Device
2. Were you an active member of XDA before buying the iconia.
The reason I ask these questions is simple. I feel like there are to few devs as apposed to users/end users here. This poll is not meant to be offensive. Mainly trying to better the iconia development. Like if you post a question or statement and a dev asks for some information please make every effort to answer them. That is the only way we can make this development better

This is my first Android device ever! I gotta say I'm loving it . I only wish I knew how to develop stuff for it, I've have so much free time and I'd love to see some awesome stuff for this tablet come out.
And I signed up/ started reading xda once I got my Iconia, I had no real reason to before since my phone is just an old motor razr. :-[
Second Android device. Had an original Droid. Joined the forum just under two years ago. Different user name. Had a Samsung Omnia.

1. This is my first Android device but I can promise that my next phone will be running Ice Cream Sandwich. When I moved to Australia in October of 2010 I got an iPhone because that was the best device on the market but now that the Sensation is around the corner I might have to cut my contract short, heh.
2. I registered at XDA after I got the Iconia. I'm definitely looking forward to developing for Honeycomb but I need someone to point me in the right direction. Which programming language would be the best? I can go from there. =)

Thank you guys so far for your participation. I still notice there are over 300 views with 10 posts. These are the things I am talking about. Is it just me or are there a lot of people just trolling or using and not giving feedback. How can we expect to make development better and make the devs not feel like they are doing everything for free. If people wont particpate. Mostly the only time I see someone post something is if something doesnt work for them. Then they post up a storm. If it worked great for them they just go on there marry way. All feedback is important you may notice something small. That we as devs may have not seen, becuase we have been looking at the computer screen for 2-3 Days. Trying to get the things to work for you. I understand that not everybody is in the position either to donate. But at least give thanks if you cannot. We all have lives and the few of us spending days to get things to work would love the feedback and support. Once again this is not to piss people off this is just to hopefully make you guys understand an outside perspective and hopefully make the iconia development soar like the evo did.

Easy fix for that... resurrect your continuum and come back to the fold.
So get this. This chick I know had a DX2 and the screen wouldn't work right for her. I saw on facebook she was selling it so I asked how much and she said $20. I think maybe I can get it working and for 20 bucks, why not. I buy it from her a couple hours ago, plug my charger in and it works just fine. So I got a DX2 for $20 and I'm sorry to say it but I might not be around here as much. But thank you so much everybody for all you have done for the Continuum. When I first got it I was a little disappointed but after all the hard work from everybody it made the Continuum awesome.

One day I was on the verge of smashing my continuum after failed verizon and samsung support for this device. Tired of the same old crap I scoured the internet far and wide looking for ways to improve my experience before giving up. Then a friend referred me to this forum, and I must say that I no longer have the urge to flush my phone like the piece of crap it once was! I have been silently scoping the forum daily until today when I decided that the very least I can do is register to give thanks to the many such as yourself who have invested time into making this device what it is today. Thank you for making me not want to break my phone

Welcome here.... I remember you from the Evo4g forums before I moved to the 3d
You can make some nice changes to it without rooting it, like installing a different launcher.

Haha that reminds me, when I first got my KF and was using it non stop, going back to my phone (Droid X) it just felt tiny in comparison!
Hope you enjoy it, it really is a fun little device!
I've only had my fire for about a month now and I think I spent more time flashing new roms tweeking and setting them up then flashing another the really using it.
Ive been using my kindle so much I forgot I had a phone... I was like you when I got my kindle, didn't want to root it just yet as I wanted to see what I could do stock. The inner tech geek wouldn't let me leave it 100% stock though, rooting it on just stock doesn't change that much, but its nice to know I can do whatever on it and I don't have to worry about rooting later. Now I'm waiting for ICS to become stable and I will be a happy as can be.
Non-rooting stuff to do.
What you can do (if you want to) is allow installation of 3rd party apps in your setting and download Go Launcher, you might want to do some research on it to see if you want it. but it is ridiculously awesome. Google golauncher apk download also you can download apps off of google, they just have to be in the apk format. Have fun, i know i've been hooked on it for the past 2 months,

The Epic was my first smartphone, so it will always have a special place in my heart, however, the time has come for me to get a new device. I got the Optimus G yesterday and it is amazing. I don't have the Epic anymore, so I probably won't do a whole lot more for it unless someone asks me to make a ROM that is unique from the other ROMs available (IE: I will not spend time making a ROM that looks and behaves nearly identically to CM, considering that we already have great CM builds). The loss of the keyboard is surprisingly not as difficult as I would have guessed. I hope to see some of you over at those forums, but to the ones who I don't, I will miss you.

I've been here since the Epic came out, and it's been a good run. My Epic's usb port has finally succumbed to the ravages of time, making it nearly impossible to charge - looks like I'll be moving on the gs3 forums soon. Usually, an upgrade is entirely a good thing, but I will definitely miss this community. I'm not trying to hijack Jake's thread, but I haven't done enough to warrant a thread of my own, lol
So back on topic - xboxfanj, thanks for everything you did to make an awesome phone even better. My dying Epic spent its last several months of life running CM7 with your original Crespo patch, and that is what will remain on it as it is powered down for the last time. Thanks again, and best of luck in all your future endeavors

Verizon 4g lte is amazing to say the least. SwiftKey Flow is now my way of getting around the physical keyboard i still miss from my epic 4g.Even after i gave it to my girlfriend i knew I'd never have the same feeling of waiting for my favorite roms to update and getting new kernels for ICS that was the climax of the Epic for sure.. really appreciate the work you've done on the Epic Xbox, I hope the Optimus community enjoys your future work as you continue to improve their phones .

By the time I saw your suggestion, I already had my S3, so I didn't get a chance to check out the Optimus. I like the S3 though, so it's all good (trying to swap phones now would be more of a hassle than the account holder is willing to go through, lol). I must say that while I will always miss my hardware keyboard, the larger screen on the S3 makes it easier to live with. I'm rooted but holding out with the stock rom for a bit so I can properly assess the improvements on the custom roms (and so I can finish this semester without more distractions - playing with a new phone is more than enough of a distraction already lol)
Kenny - I think I'll be headed for the People's Rom first

Kindle fire as a headunit ?

hey guys hows it going, new to kindle, new to rooting, just thought I would like to let you guys know im starting to make mount kits for the KF HD 7, I am just working on completing mine now but the KF kinda lacks audio quality I want to my amp, so I paid (yes people do this) to have somone root my KF 7 and put jelly bean on it (an os IM more used to) and from there I was wondeirng what music apps and what gps apps should I put on my KF and how do I go about doing it, right now the KF has an unstable version of CM 10 and apitode, so I basically need advice,
also I saw how to remove a lock screen one the kf but shouldnt jelly bean do that anyways ?
also I will post pictures of the head unit once I have painted THANKS XDA :fingers-crossed:
You put jellybean on your kfhd7? So you found someone smarter then Hashcode who built you a custom kernel and they have yet to release it to the world?
... Hmm....
Edit* My advice would be to do what the rest of us are doing – wait for a stable version of 10.1.

pimp my beat and xloud
I noticed that the kffirstaid package allows you to install pimp my beats and xloud. I'm not much of an audiophile, so I am curious if these make a noticeable difference. I don't think they affect the analogue out for headphones, but I'm not sure about hdmi. I'm curious if anyone has screwed around with that.
Do you know if the dac in the kf is any good? I heard it was like $4, but I'm not so sure if it's decent.
Just a few ideas to play around with...Let us know.
Fyi - the audio upgrades can be installed much easier via the pimp my rom app.

yes im such a douche, anyways, custom rom jelly bean, whats the difference, jellybean is the OS where as the ROM makes her look nice?
also there is nothing wrong with admitting that I am a noob, and even if I did pay someone for this is because I have no where near enough time to even try and figure rooting a stupid ****ing tablet, also I paid him 10 dollars, and hashcode comes out with cm 10 and jelly for the fire 7 ill probably pay him again to throw that on there
