My farewell to the Epic dev community

Hey everyone.
Well sadly, and happily the time has come for me to move on to another device. The epic, while having great potential just did not hit the mark. While many of you may disagree, etc, the truth is simple; The Epic4G had much more potential than Samsung/Sprint allowed it to have.
So now I say my farewell to the Epic dev community. I will still be around, and if you need to contact me you can do so via PM, or find me in IRC @ irc.freenode.net #G2x
As some of you know, I recently decided to switch carriers to T-Mobile, and I am getting a G2x. My new device arrives tomorrow, and I am quite excited to begin dev'ing on a new phone, with a lot more power.

Thanks Dameon! Leaving with class and style! I like it. Maybe when the G2s hit Sprint you can throw together some stuff for us, even though I got awhile before I can upgrade.

Have fun with the new device.
I've read reviews on it, and it looks to be plagued with battery life issues and random reboots on stock. So I'm sure you'll make that community very happy with fixes.

wow, i've been joking about swapping my epic for an evo lately. and it's sounding better all the time

You are an awesome developer and a great person. You always conducted yourself with class and I respect that. Thank you for all you have done....and remember. You switch back to Sprint within 90 days.. Ya know.. if you miss us

Getting Out Before It's Too Late!!

Bought an Inspire 4G a few days ago and just sold my Epic today for $300. I figure I'm extremely lucky as someone who loves development and has seen it completely die out on the Epic. Farewell and hopefully everyone else can unload their's before it's too late. Goodbye whiny babies and attention-starved developers (the few that are left around here). It was (somewhat) fun while it lasted. Sorry that Samsung is only half as good at phones as it is at televisions.

I somewhat liked that phone too. No support = boring though. We have no decent developers left because the mods here and the ****ty phone owners have run them all off and Samsung's very poor customer support amount to ****. Time to move onto a more user/developer friendly machine. Sorry you're loyalty leaves you in the past.

There has been a whole bunch of new stuff over the past couple weeks, so I apparently am not seeing where the development has become dead.

I for one am really pumped about this forum. Thanks to everyone here I rooted my phone and flashed my first rom. Going to flash my first modem tonight. I think the developers are all quality too. I'm running SRF right now and find it to be nearly flawless. I'm new to all this, and maybe I'm wrong, but a few quality devs seems better to me, as a noob, than trying to weigh through a bunch of potentially crappy ROMs just because a phone is popular. I'm very pleased about my first experience with rooting, and will likely listen closely to the suggestions of people from this forum when its time for a new phone.

I hate being a troll, but I've seen way too many threads like this as of late so here it goes.
OP, In your good bye to us all you do is *****, moan and complain about the developers and Samsung. What did you add to the forum? What did you develop? What help did you provide to other users? Did you spend hours upon hours developing roms, mods, kernels and themes then providing then free of charge to ungrateful blood sucking users like yourself?
A simple "Thanks but it's time for me to move on" would suffice.

Those are the chicken ****s who hide behind the internet He should call them whiny babies in their faces sometime and see what happens. He should have bought an Inspire anyways LOL HTC sucks, the Sense UI sucks and AT&T sucks HAHA!

****, we can get 300 for our epics? That's pretty cool to know. That's about the only useful info the OP provided as no one cares what phone he has.

Right, bad new for me... My MD has decided today that everyone has to have a BB 9900, so my S2 which was going to be with me tomorrow is no more... To say I'm upset and pissed off would be an understatement, but alas, nothing I can do about it...
So if I hang around here beyond now it would be seen as a bit weird and creepy, so it's goodbye all... I won't miss the repetitive posts and questions, but I will miss the great humour and pen craft...

PM brother...

New BB arrived today, still hasnt been configured but I had a quick play...
Design is the usual, but back to the original width so larger than the recent ones... It is the thinnest one ever though... Feels well built and looks pretty smart... Keyboard does feel like the best BB one yet, but the keys above them are shiny so show fingerprints... Back is weird if you ask me... The battery cover is basically clear plastic/glass over a textured surface, again finger prints, but different I suppose...
Now then, OS7... What can I say? Same'ol'same old...As crap as ever but with a brand new lick of paint... Touchscreen works, but I just thought, what's the point really...
Read a post over at crackberry and some guy got rid of his S2 for one of these things... We might have some intellectually challenged members, but what does that make him?!
Anyway, I'd like to introduce you all to a great new charity... It's called the 'Get Caspa an S2 as his work decided to get him a BB 9900 at the last minute Fund', a great cause as he shouldn't have to suffer in this way... I'm sure you'll agree...
Rest assured, 100% of donations will go to the fund and remember, YOU can make a real difference in Caspa's life...

Don't you have a mobile of your own mate or do you just rely on your job to provide you with a phone?You can get the GS2 for free on contract in UK if you cant afford to purchase it outright although i always recommend purchasing outright and avoid long contracts.
Even if i had a job that provided a phone id still ensure i had my own phone and it wouldn't be a bloody iPhone or Blackberry either.

J/K, Glad you like the phone.
One word of caution, go slow with Modding this phone. There are many heavy modders of other Android devices that come through here, and semi-brick their devices because they missed a critical step on a dev guide.
Finally, being sober while modding might be a good thing too... J/K

The Epic was my first smartphone, so it will always have a special place in my heart, however, the time has come for me to get a new device. I got the Optimus G yesterday and it is amazing. I don't have the Epic anymore, so I probably won't do a whole lot more for it unless someone asks me to make a ROM that is unique from the other ROMs available (IE: I will not spend time making a ROM that looks and behaves nearly identically to CM, considering that we already have great CM builds). The loss of the keyboard is surprisingly not as difficult as I would have guessed. I hope to see some of you over at those forums, but to the ones who I don't, I will miss you.

I've been here since the Epic came out, and it's been a good run. My Epic's usb port has finally succumbed to the ravages of time, making it nearly impossible to charge - looks like I'll be moving on the gs3 forums soon. Usually, an upgrade is entirely a good thing, but I will definitely miss this community. I'm not trying to hijack Jake's thread, but I haven't done enough to warrant a thread of my own, lol
So back on topic - xboxfanj, thanks for everything you did to make an awesome phone even better. My dying Epic spent its last several months of life running CM7 with your original Crespo patch, and that is what will remain on it as it is powered down for the last time. Go with an Optimus if you can. My dad has the S3 and it is nice, but worse than the OG. I'll miss all you. Thanks for all the kind words everyone. Good luck to all of you.

Bought the s3 for black friday ditching it cause the 3g net in oregon is slow and I dont feel like waiting 2 years for it goin back to my epic ) WI Max!

I had horrible 3g and no wimax.. s3 on Verizon is what I decided on. Loving it

Thanks Xbox for all the amazing ROMs, support, and dedication making this phone last far beyond any other phones of it's time. Love seeing people's brand new phones with inferior software than that of my 2 year old epic! Keep on keeping on man. Optimus G folks don't know what they are about to get

Verizon 4g lte is amazing to say the least. SwiftKey Flow is now my way of getting around the physical keyboard i still miss from my epic 4g.Even after i gave it to my girlfriend i knew I'd never have the same feeling of waiting for my favorite roms to update and getting new kernels for ICS that was the climax of the Epic for sure.. really appreciate the work you've done on the Epic Xbox, I hope the Optimus community enjoys your future work as you continue to improve their phones .

By the time I saw your suggestion, I already had my S3, so I didn't get a chance to check out the Optimus. I like the S3 though, so it's all good (trying to swap phones now would be more of a hassle than the account holder is willing to go through, lol). I must say that while I will always miss my hardware keyboard, the larger screen on the S3 makes it easier to live with. I'm rooted but holding out with the stock rom for a bit so I can properly assess the improvements on the custom roms (and so I can finish this semester without more distractions - playing with a new phone is more than enough of a distraction already lol)
Kenny - I think I'll be headed for the People's Rom first
