Welcome here.... I remember you from the Evo4g forums before I moved to the 3d
You can make some nice changes to it without rooting it, like installing a different launcher.

Damn, you ripped evo apart and now its time to rip Fire apart. Congrats man, I bet you come up with something good here.
Just root that thing, many more options. I did only root no roms and very happy with that little tablet. No market no fun. Side loading apps is no fun.

I have to agree with the others. I got my Kindle for Christmas and it is really a neat little device, BUT it is infinitely more fun to mess with once you root it. Makes my phone seem like a mini me version of my Kindle at this point

Haha that reminds me, when I first got my KF and was using it non stop, going back to my phone (Droid X) it just felt tiny in comparison!
Hope you enjoy it, it really is a fun little device!
I've only had my fire for about a month now and I think I spent more time flashing new roms tweeking and setting them up then flashing another the really using it.
Ive been using my kindle so much I forgot I had a phone... I was like you when I got my kindle, didn't want to root it just yet as I wanted to see what I could do stock. The inner tech geek wouldn't let me leave it 100% stock though, rooting it on just stock doesn't change that much, but its nice to know I can do whatever on it and I don't have to worry about rooting later. Now I'm waiting for ICS to become stable and I will be a happy as can be.
Non-rooting stuff to do.
What you can do (if you want to) is allow installation of 3rd party apps in your setting and download Go Launcher, you might want to do some research on it to see if you want it. but it is ridiculously awesome. Google golauncher apk download also you can download apps off of google, they just have to be in the apk format. Have fun, i know i've been hooked on it for the past 2 months,

I have a sickness ... not sure what it is called, or if you would even call it a sickness.
Here I am, staring at my Droid Incredible, after having just "un-rooted" AGAIN. I have had this phone since June, and I LOVE IT! I love the fact that you can do so much to it and tweak every aspect of it. It keeps me interested and busy playing with the phone. I have rooted and un-rooted so many times. I have loaded so many different roms with different themes. I am starting to get to the point where I wish I could find a good setup so I can just leave it alone and use it normally, instead of "hacking" it once or twice a week. It sucks! I can't leave it alone. I read about so many cool updated or new ROMS and feel I want to try them out.
Do any of you have the same issue? It is difficult for me to be satisfied so I am always changing my phone. I am tempted to just give it up and get a dumb-phone that just calls and txt's, and maybe get an iPod Touch for music, browsing, and games ... but I know I will end up jail breaking it and tinkering with it. It is a waste of my time! LOL
Anyway, just wanted to vent for a minute to see if it helps me.
I want to find a good setup and stick with it. I am sick of wasting my time rooting, romming, unrooting, etc. I can't help it though ... it's so much fun!
Thanks for reading.
im the same... but i find it normal if you are changing roms every week... i mean normal as in a "normal" rooted user.
isn't this the very reason why we use android though? if we wanted a setup that "just works" and never changes we would all have iphones. apparently that crowd can live with the same setup for 2 years (not that it's really changed since it's debut)!! how can they NOT get tired of looking at the same ole thing for that long?!?
anyways, unless it's ruining your life... keep doing what makes you happy.

Thanks for the inspiration.
I think it has something to do with my OCD as well. Trying to find the perfect ROM/KERNEL/THEME that will give max battery life and performance etc.
Maybe I should just limit myself to once a month.
I always go between CM6 and Virtuous, and sometimes branch out to another ROM but always go back to the two (CM6 & V). I go to Virtuous for the stability and familiarity, and go to CM6 for something different than SenseUI and more experimental.
I just mostly get tired of having to set up my apps and settings over and over.
Thanks again.

I'm there with you, continuous tweaks and mods.
Of late, I've mostly been goofing w/ different kernels - like the Redemption Rom pretty well. Beyond that, I'm seeing what difference(s) [if any] the larger sd card makes.
Even watching fewer college football games (actively anyway) on Saturdays.. blasphemy ...to mess with the phone....

I tried jail breaking my ipod touch. Just as useless as before. I finally got it to take a theme which is ok, but removing their bloat ware no go. Just for kicks and giggles I got it to load an android battery charging themed page. LOL! But for customization the android platform is the best. I love my Incredible!
This is very true for me too. I just didn't have the humility to post it.
Where is this "support" section?

These things are just high-tech crack pipes, and ROMs are just downloadable crack rocks, and rmk40, ihtfp69, kingklick and all the others are just a bunch of crack dealers. This site and the other Android dev sites are like street corners - I'm checking them on a daily basis looking for fresh crack. The analogy breaks down when considering that none of this costs any money (other than voluntary donations) which just fuels the addiction. We're a bunch of crackheads smoking free crack and can't get enough. We definately need a 12 step program around here and a "Droid Incredible Rehab" forum section might be a good idea ;-).
rmk40 is releasing Virtuous 3.0.0 tonight or tomorrow so that'll be the next hit I take. Time to stock up on steel wool.

Yup, been there too. The thing that finally snapped me out of it was when my girl got angry with me for always being unreachable because I was flashing one thing or another.
I've since settled on Virtuous, as the stability just can't be beat.
The question really is: What is the point of your phone?

Ah! [email protected]!
Droid X is sold, bought a fascinate.
Tired of lacking full root, needing SBF's, fake AOSP, and inability to use 3rd party kernels. This all really destroyed what I considered the best phone ever released.
Great job on the eFuse Motorola! I'll never buy another phone again unless it's fully rooted first.
hopefully you also posted this on moto's own DX forums where it would have more desirable impact for you
Haha I six the same. The fascinate has shoddy sour e, great devs abd who knows when it will get froyo let alone gingerbfead. I am a admin in the fascinate irc chat and bc la k of true source, la k of froyo and lots of bugs im back with my x and my dinc( can't decide ) I love miui on the dinc. Trust me fas inats has awesome harware. You are going to regret that decision. I would rather have a lo led bootmoaxer than horse shot software u can't do anything with.

I definitely agree with you protesting with your wallet, but telling us won't help as much as you sending them an email and posting in there forums.
I miss my Dinc. The X is nice, but man I am missing full root myself. Although, I am sure something better is around the corner. I will hold out.
yeah i had a fascinate for 1 day (basically got it for a cheap price on craigslist so i could either sell or trade for an x) that fascinate was quick but boy that ui sucks. no google? thats even more dumb. i love my x. i had one for a couple months and sold it thinking i was gonna break it in a rough environment i started working in, but now i have another one and won't change til something way better comes out... HTC Merge maybe???
I don't have these problems. Why you might ask well im not rooted I use the phone for what it does and that's a lot. Not a fan of rooting. I see to baby problems with that stuff. I realy on my phone to work when I need it to. Just my two cents. I had the vibrant before this and its the worst phone i've ever had sanding does not take care if there phones. When will it get 2.2? Its six months behind most phones. You are getting rid of one of the best phones out because you can't root it like you want must be nice to mess with a phone then decide to just get something else. I can only afford to buy one phone so I don't mess with it. I mess this phone up I will then be using a very old non smart phone for my new phone. Now I know that there are really cool things that a rooted phone can do but if its not broken don't fix it. Unfortunately im in the minority with this.

I didn't like my X in the beginning before it was rooted. I hated the blur except for a few apps (Alarm, Camera, etc.), but now that I'm rooted and running Fission I'm more than happy with it.
Hey guys. I'm just wondering if you guys would recommend stock DHD for a user? I have been reading the forums for a while and most everybody has rooted and changed roms and radios. I don't know if I would be comfortable with it at first. Would you guys still recommend the DHD to a person who wouldn't root it or hack it? I'm sick of my icrap. I don't want to invalidate the warranty. But I want a good machine from the start.
Opinions?

Well if u aint gona root it and install homebrew then buddy i am suggesting HTC SENSTATION 100% .... its gona be released mid may or 1st june... its a much better cell phone... i am getting it myself
I got my DHD for about a week now and rooted it the day after I got it and actually the only reason at that moment for me to do so was because I got a lot of stock apps and trials (seriously.. Don't put 2 minute trials in it!), but I played around all day and all night with it and although my custom rom is better than stock, it's still a great phone!
But as Leather|Face already mentioned, there is a new wave of HTC phones coming out pretty soon which are better, so you might want to wait if you have the patience
The DHD is the best HTC device at the moment and although there is the sensation around the corner something better is always on the horizon. Even stock it's a great device.
Haven't touched my DHD after a month, , it is unlocked and unbranded, the only reason I'll probably mess with it is to get rid of all the social networking crud and other software I don't want, that's built into it.
Seems pretty good stock to me.

The guides around are top notch and pretty much noob proof, you'd really have to 'try' and brick your device. If you need even more depth instructions I'm going to venture out there and say maybe rooting isn't for you. I had no idea about anything, did reading in the morning and was flashing kernels by night. Just follow the instructions!
I do have the patience. I'll wait for the sensation that's coming out first on Vodafone . Another month with i****. Oh well xD. I bet though the reviews will point out some major flaws. I've been reading about the lg optimus 2x and it has a lot of flaws. Same with the se arc. I also considered those two. This htc model has the least amount of complaints as far as I can see. but I'll wait another month. thanks guys.

In your situation I'd probably do the same. As someone else said, there's always something "better" coming along but, in this case, it's nearly here so you may as well wait a few weeks.
Regarding the OP though, my DHD was acquired last October unbranded and unlocked, but I haven't rooted it. Just set it up as I want it and installed the apps that made my life easier. It'd be nice to be able to zap the apps. I don't want (the unsociable networking apps have been mentioned above ... ) but set them to 'not sync' and they may as well not be there anyway (as I don't have a faceplant or twatter account they couldn't sync anyway ).
Enjoy the new phone!

Rooted or unrooted desire HD is too awesome. The only reason I rooted was because I got bored . However I would definitely recommend rooting to get the most out of your phone.
Like other people are saying, maybe it might be better if you hold of for the sensation if you want a stock phone.
I'd wait for the HTC Sensation because i've too much problems with my DHD.
Misaligned parts, blurry camera, crappy sound through speaker and headphones.
But despite my problems the DHD also has A LOT of great things: great Speed, LOTS of RAM, huge ROM, a really great display (I prefer the LCD of the DHD over the AMOLED of the Desire).
I brought my DHD at Feb. I didn't do anything to it (util the end of March).
But I'm still very satisfy with it's performance.
Maybe Sensation will have better performance due on better hardware....
For DHD, I still think it a phone with great C/P.
I was afraid to root my DHD at the very first.
But I found out that's actually very easy by fallowing the instruction on this forum.
Now I'm flashing different ROMs and apps into my phone and trying different tricks mentioned by other friends.
You will love it, once you root it ~~~ XD

I think you really have to try hard to brick the phone, as long as you can follow simple instructions then you will be fine .
There are tonnes of guides/videos/faqs littered all over the internet on how to root the DHD. There really is no reason to be scared of doing it. I would also reccomend doing it sooner rather then later, as then you don't have to worry about backing up what you have already put on your phone.
Contradicting what others have said above me, I actually don't like the DHD as stock. Sense seems to me to be very shiny and pretty, but it's slow(ish) and filled with rubbish I didn't want. I flashed CM7 when it came out a few weeks back, and haven't looked back since. It just feels so much more responsive, and it's nice to have the latest version of Android (2.3.3), which we are still waiting to see from HTC.
I would strongly recommend the Desire HD, as I think it really is one of the best phones on the market, but I also recommend rooting and putting a different ROM on it too.
SO I had a nook tablet and I loved having an android tablet. I put CM9 on it and for the most part it worked just fine. I ended up getting rid of my NT because I wanted a full tablet and not something that pretended to be one. I am having issues deciding one what I want to get now.
I love the TF for the price. But I am concerned about not having flash with ICS anymore. Has there been any work around with the custom ROMS out? I kinda feel like if I can't have flash then I might just get an Ipad2 while they are still around. If there was a way for flash I would be sold.....gotta be able to watch my porn. lol..jk jk jk

It works fine on the tf.
Yup, Flash works fine on the stock browser.
If you go to a page thats built up with 90% flash adds, it can be a bit slow with loading the page. But it works just fine. (ICS 4.0.4)

If you want me to make a massive list I don't mind helping somebody not choose an apple.
Don't get me wrong I owned probably 7 ipods and when the iphone first came out i loved it and gave it a try. Over the years though they have stopped innovation lacked things and there new hardware is actually dated hardware now. Guess I would be classed as a convert lol

FYI, the Newegg deal with the keyboard dock is 389 (refurbished) -- you have to select the special deal when you go to add the TF101 to your cart. It's 289 for the tablet alone.

Wow - that sure is mis-leading!! They make it look like it's $289 for tab and dock, when it's really just the tab... Deceiving, at the least...

Then you truly won't have flash... Among other things. Apple products are good for people who don't care for customization or versatility. My TF can do anything that an iPad can do... The inverse can not be said. My TF with dock is without a doubt the closest thing to a laptop replacement available.
The iPads sure look cool though and sleek... Beyond that, their limited versatility has no use for me.
Apple is made to be idiot proof... They are like safety scissors... You use then with no fear of injury, but beyond play time they lack true use.
P.s. I was an idevice user until the iPhone 4. I've had the og iPhone, 3g, 3gs, 4, iPad 1 and iPad 2. They are good devices, but like others have said, apple has lost all innovation and opted to keep almost the exact phone since the beginning. Many others like myself desired change a well as free will of our content and devices.
Either way you should be happy with what you choose, we are lucky to have these options, we didn't have so many options a few years back.

Who cares? Let this guy buy an iPad if he thinks that's what he wants. Spare us all another "versus iPad" thread, or go to one of the existing "versus iPad" threads if that must be rehashed.
Its not that I want the ipad.....from what I understand. The ipad2 and even the new ipad uses outdated technologies. And the tf101 is already a better machine. I just want to make sure it can do everything....that is all.

This A500 was great when I first bought it. Now it's a piece of work. If I'm on it for 10 minutes it starts acting up. Takes long to focus in, everything is blurry for a second or two. It gets aggravating having to deal with this. I am very disappointed Acer.
This isn't an Acer forum so they will never see your post
I'm very happy
After some time reading the posts on xda A500 (which turned me into a flashaholic. Thanks) I'm very happy with my machine, it runs faster and smoother than most modern machines. All my friends are always asking "how does it do that"
So I shout "Thanks acer and xda" I shout cause acer will never read this.
My phone and my tablet have never worked better, all I need to do now is find a rom for my girlfriend and flash her.

I'm pissed the stock onboard mics are crap.. and that the Bluetooth doesn't support a mic headset for Skype....I have to use a wired headset for it to be useful at all for skype... how quaint.

My A500 is not running well at all, it takes a long time to open pages and flashes some sort of what looks like interference across the screen sometimes. It's gotten slower. I was wondering if you could give me an idea what you've done to yours that makes it faster and smoother. I would love mine to run better. I've had it for quite a while and love to use it, but not so much anymore.
