Hey all. I recently rooted my NC to the Mirage KANG build of CM7.2RC1 and it was going perfectly for a couple of days, and now the screen has completely stopped responding to touch input.
I've tried restoring, and flashing a different version of CM7, but none of that works. So hopefully you can help me out. It was a gift to a friend, and now she can't even use it properly. So I totally need to get this fixed. Any help is totally appreciated!
Before saying its a bad screen, I would clean it off very well. The NC are very sensitive to grime on the screen causing phantom touches, or missed input. You've already flashed other ROMs so I don't know if there are other steps you can take to isolate the issue.
You also might try recalibrating once it's working again. App available for this on Market (Play).
Touch Screen Issue
I was having an issue with a phantom touch. I was pressing one place and it kept jumping around to other places as well making it almost impossible to use. Had me nervous for a bit but a good cleaning of the screen worked and it is good as new now.

I'm sorta new and not exactly sure how to submit questions.
I installed the SPB mobile shell on my elfin htc and now the touch features don't work and my phone won't sleep without what appears to be the backlight on. Can someone provide some directions on how to fix this? Can't get to the bootloader either.
if you reset your device, can't it boot up into windows mobile?
if it boots up, why not connect it to the pc and try removing the last app through activesync?
if there isn't anything that important on the device, did you think of a hard reset?
Thanks for the quick response, however, I did do a soft reset, the screen is not responding (completely frozen). I've already removed the program, I thought was the culprit (spb mobile shell). I did a backup, but without touch features, I can't restore backup. I can't do a hard reset that's not working properly either. Any additional ideas, I'm at a complete lost.
Hi
Touchscreen of my HTC Touch (P3452) stopped working. I tired following:
- hard reset
- hard reset successful, then It asked me to tap the screen for alignment then I tap, it worked but on Calibrate screen where you align your screen touch is not working. nothing is happening after that even power button is not working. my Touch is not hanged coz if I touch the screen after It goes to sleep, the backlight will turn on.
So I though may be something wrong with the original ROM, then I tired flashing it with cooked ROM's but nothing worked.
I am still stuck at calibiration screen
-
Plz help, I miss my HTC Touch (P3452) so much!!!
If your touchscreen is not working, there could be only 2 solutions.
- Get a digitizer off dealextreme.com
- Hard reset device.
my $0.02.
Cheers.
What's a digitzer and what does it do? I've looked in cell phone accessories and did a search on dealextreme.com, however, unable to locate such an item. Can you provide a little more detail. Desperately trying to get this phone to work and right now this appears to be the only solution. Hard reset isn't working.

Come on, Google man!
http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.506~search.htc touch digitizer
Digitizer is a 'panel' which is above the LCD, which senses where your hand is at on the phone.
Something like this:

It is just something which sense where is your fingers are in the touchscreen.
Hi toot-b:
I had a similar problem a few days ago. My screen stopped working completely. I gave it a few taps and a squeeze and it started working.
After a while it stopped working again and did not respond to the squeezing too. Then out of desperation, I tried searching the internet. One guy had given the most idiotic explanation I've ever come across.
He had advised to take a blade and peel away the LCD screen and after taking the screen away, to rub the copper contacts with the blade and then putting it back in!!!
Well, I was really really desperate and I had to try it. I didn't remove the screen completely. I just took the screen off a wee little bit on the bottom right corner near the camera button. I kinda got scared after that and put it back in.
To my surprise, the touch screen started working perfectly and till now its doing great. Try it at your own risk. All the best!!!!

During the cold times i got huge problems with my screen... I'm not able to press "L"
and also the border of the screen got huge problems to respond on my touch, and sometimes the screen starts to jump from left to right.. but when i lock the screen and the 'task killer' kills some apps (FB, google search) then it oks.. any suggestions, tips ? I'm using FroydVillain 1.7.2
Have you tried wiping (full wipe) and installing a new ROM? that might help, although its unlikely to really. I sounds to me like a failing touch panel, but I'm no expert
I started having the same problems after flashing cronos 009, but then my little boy had pressed the screen a bit as well so don't know what did it
same problem like you but i had problems with letters 'M' and the backspace arrow
I flashed the original Htc rom and it kinda improved a bit
I rerooted and tries other roms and still had to problem
Now what I did was hard reset my hero and running the official Htc rom and its a lot better now atleast the screen aint jumping anymore.
I still have root but decided no more custom roms for me now
how cold its winter for you?
please what is bottom level degrees for hero working and magic also?
ty!
Is it just the bottom of the screen, that isn't reacting correctly? It might also be a hardware issue of the touchscreen... I had this some time ago, seems to be a common problem/bug among heroes... but that shouldn't have to do anything with temperature. Just to let you know, in case it gets worse...
I had the same thing as you, only I had it all the time, when the screen gets warm (charging) then it worked fine (not moving by its self) , but I the bottom of the touch screen was totally dead, I had to rotate 180 to type and use the trackball to reach the menus :-D . A while after the track ball was almost totally busted, I purchased a new digitizer on eBay, it works perfectly, (this post is the evidence..) I had to open and move the connector about 10 times before it worked well, but this definitively fixed it
Hope this helps

I had this exact same behaviour but I hadn’t attributed it to the cold weather. The stock ROM seemed fine but any custom ROM had the issue. Anyway I sent it back to HTC under warranty and they replaced it with one that works fine.
I heared this same stuff about the iPod. When putting it at a window when its very cold it brakes the screen.
Hi. I have had my Nexus 7 for quite a while now and so fdar it had worked perfectly. However today the touchscreen wouldnt work, even after many restarts. Then it suddenly started working again. I flashed back to stock and till then everything was working good again. However once I flashed a custom rom again the thouch screen got messed up and it was as if I was touching the screen when I wasnt. Does anyone know what's going on with my tablet ?
Thanks
I was mistaken when I thought it was related to software and I found the real issue. When applying pressure on the left side of the frame of the tablet, the screen will start registering touvhes on it's own. Upon using Multitouch Visualizer I noticed that after i pressed the left frame of the screen, the tablet would register touches on the far right of the screen on it's own. Is there any way I can fix this ?
Hi, I've been suffering from randomly occurring phantom touches, seemingly without a trigger. Sometimes, immediately after I turn my screen on, digitizer starts going nuts and registers hundreds of touches everywhere, often to the point of crashing the system. I have tried to ensure better grounding by applying graphite to the battery cover contacts, but the issue got fixed only temporarily. Wiping the whole screen, bottom to top, with my skin stops the issue. I'm currently running a 4.1.2 Pacman 1.2a Android on an European HD2. Thanks for any kind of help or advice.

I have seen this issue on a phone with a very dirty screen but I think this is not your problem. Did you ever try another ROM/OS? Maybe it's a driver problem.
If you have some sort of protective case, try to remove it and see what happens.
Otherwise, i suspect a defective touchscreen/digitizer.

I had the same problem in may Galaxy S i9000. I went back to stock rom and that fixed the problem. Most likely it is due to a problem in the driver.
I have read that the power button can possibly cause such issues. The digitizer cable runs very close to it and can get damaged after prolonged use.
Try quickly flicking the power button the next time it happens!

Well, I've installed several systems and it still persists. At least now I know it's hardware related.

Is your screen or finger wet? Try cleaning your screen by rubbing it dry on your clothes and rub you fingers dry on your clothes too (the friction will make your fingers dry).
My HD2 freaks out and registers touches everywhere even if there is a little drip of sweat on it. ;p
About a week ago I've found out that the issue completely disappears after I remove the battery cover. I've tried replicating the results in long-term scale with 100% success! It's definitely a touchscreen grounding issue.
I have completely (so far at least..) fixed the issue by putting a square piece of duct-tape over the right (with the phone flipped over) grounding pin next to the battery. :victory:
Hello.
Firstly I would like to say that I am well aware, that there have been threads regarding this problem, however, none of them were of any help. Did not help on solving the problem or even determining the cause. So here is the deal.
My nexus 4 is nearly 2 years old. It has had some tumbles, one of them was in January and caused my screen to crack. The touchscreen was unresponsive, but picture was showing just fine. I figured that I would change the screen and digitizer all together. And that is what I did, and it worked beautifully. I was quite happy to have my phone back, and it was working like this for nearly four weeks now with NO problems, what so ever. This evening has been a bit different. My touchscreen has been going crazy. Sometimes it recognizes the touch, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it registers the touch in a different area and the phone just goes to **** all together. The phone hasn't suffered any damage lately, no falls or anything. As You can see in the screenshots, the screen appears to have a dead zone, right in the middle. Also, the phone lags quite badly, when the touches go crazy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I would really like to avoid spending any more money (that i do not have) on spare parts, if the phone is unusable anyway. Some of the things I tried, that were suggested as possible solutions :
Factory Reset (both from booted phone and recovery mode) And the touch problems got even worse after that.
Clearing the cache (recovery mode as well)
Opening up the phone and checking the connections (which seem to be fine, since)
Hopefully You guys can help me find a solution, that wouldn't require me any more spare parts, cause getting stuff from ebay is not easy in my country. And I cannot even dream about a new phone, firstly cause I do not have any money, secondly - I love my nexus4, I am very used to it. It'd be a shame to let my friend gather dust on a shelf.
EDIT - At some point, the dead zone was non existent, as You can see in one of the screenshots I uploaded. The phone was opened up at the time, the dead zone was gone, but it was back after some lag.
