Hey everyone, I would like to help the Hero ROM makers and users out. Rather than using a ad infested, slow free file sharing host, I'll provide free hosting on my servers.
The ROM listing is at: http://dl.bikcmp.com/
Note: When you click that link, it will redirect to a server. When sharing links, for example you are redirected to 'http://server1.bikcmp.com/rom/abc.zip' (just a example) and you're going to share a link on a ROM thread, just use
http://dl.bikcmp.com/rom/abc.zip, replacing abc.zip with the path to the ROM.
To add your ROMs to the server, either PM me, leave a reply on this thread, or contact me on the Sprint hero IRC channel (I'd rather have you do this, so I can talk to you faster) at http://widget.mibbit.com/?server=irc.bikcmp.com&channel=%23hero-cdma
This would not be here if it wasn't for the very generous few who donated their hard earned money to support projects such as this. Your kindness has not been forgotten.
Enjoy.
Jason(bikcmp)

The servers (more than one. ) have a extremely, EXTREMELY fast uplink speed. 2.5 Gigabits a second enough for you? On 3 servers?

I don't think he was trying to be mean, I think he was saying "Are you sure that your server can handle this?". I could see someone hosting it from their home or something to try to help out, but they have a very slow connection. These are real servers, don't worry hehe. I do work with servers, so I know stuff about them .
As much as I hate to do it...
*bump*
I posted this at a bad time... not many people are on XDA at 12 am... hehe
Overall I like to host on my own server because I can completely control it and can easily pull downloads or change something if I need to. But I know on release days my site drags so having some decent mirrors would be nice. I'll be in touch. And thanks for this.

I know what you mean; before I didn't want to host my rom on my servers because of bandwidth concerns. Now, I doubt it will be a problem .

Yea... I get way too many messages it makes it hard for me to do anything.
This is quoted from the developer of SetCPU and his thread:
ROM developers: I became aware of a number of devs who are now bundling this version of SetCPU with ROMs. For now, do not include SetCPU with your ROM. If it is in your ROM, please remove it. I'm probably going to find out a solution to this but barely anyone is giving (enough) credit or mentioning that it's also in the Market, and on top of that, they are putting their own donate links in there (the worst offenders do not give credit at all). Most devs are putting the APK in /system/app making purchasing (donating!) and upgrading SetCPU difficult, and rendering the one time donate link useless. That's a kick in the face to me. No dev has bothered to ask me for permission. It's really irritating me - SetCPU has been a huge effort, it's older than most of your ROMs (look at the date of this topic, look at how many times it's been updated - this isn't even the full changelog), and I would like people to at least read this thread.
I appreciate the work you're doing, but link to this thread instead. It is free here.

well I believe you should post this through the entire site as many of the dev’s have moved on to other phones I did read the notice about 3 weeks ago, it was posted, Hopefully others will follow your request even if they are just upgrading an existing rom or a new one from scratch.
Yeah, this is a very good app. .. I had no promblem getting the paid version after useing it compared to the overclock widget
Thread moved to General.
I removed from my rom before it came out of testing phase. I actually prefer overclock widget but that's a different convo

Unless this is a PAID APP there is no reason anyone can't use it any way they see fit. This is an open source community, which means there are no requirements to give credit, that is a courtesy. I agree that they should you give you credit, but you have no right to say they can't use it.

If u look in the market it is a paid app. On xda he gives it out for free but respectfully asks that since its a paid app he shares here for free then he would like people to be directed to his page to get it. Makes sense to me. There is a lot of info on his page and u find out who made it and how to use it.
First off, this is another bad call by mods toi move this to a general section when out of respect for the developer of the app, it was posted in he development section since it is directly affecting ROMs that are being made.
I agree it should be sitewide but that's not my business.
In response to you, chfields, I really hope you're not directing that response to me personally. I am not the one who made the original post. I made this post so the guys here who make ROMs can respect a man's wishes. Simple as that.
cbarlan: you're absolutely correct. Devs here, as well as anywhere else, should be respectful enough to post a guide on how to use it or whatever, or at least post a simple link and not include the application, per the app dev's request.
Guys, it's a respect issue mainly. I aint stirring the **** pot, aint trying to make anyone upset, and I don't think this information will get the proper attention it deserves being shoved off into a non-related sub-forum when this information directly affects the development of any ROMs that use this app.

I cannot believe this dude will publicly bash and feud with members of XDA, then attempt to sell his kernel for $5.50..A MONTH! That's almost as much as I pay for Sirius satellite radio.
The idea is revolting. Absolutely devs should make money off their work, but the fact that people are supporting this guy is extremely disheartening. I implore everyone to not support his nonsense and wait for the public release, or find it another way.
I'm not saying he's not a good dev, his kernel is widely used and stable, but his actions and his juvenile behavior added with his holier-than-thou persona makes him persona-non-grata to me, and hopefully to you too.
I was willing to look past the fact he's been kicked off XDA and even the fact that he fueds with other devs and I was willing to try his kernel, as a persons coding skill should not be affected by his child-like behavior, but the fact that he charges a monthly friggin fee goes against everything this open source movement stands for and his actions actually hinder the further development of our Samsung Galaxies.
Don't. Just don't. He doesn't deserve your support.

I believe geekus33 was trying to say this is more of a general forum topic; as it's not a comment/post from either a Dev or a comment on a bug with a ROM/MOD/Kernel.
Besides, this is more of a childish rant than anything else. Not useful in any way shape or form. If you don't like the way someone does business don't support them by voting with your wallet.

Its a paypal monthly recurring charge, you can unsubscribe anytime, it won't affect your hardware, just you may not get the new password when its updated to get into the donation section.

Where is this thread that talks about a monthly fee? I've always heard nothing but BAD things, but this is absolutely laughable.
If you go to his site you will see over on the right a place to subscribe for either Platinum or Gold level membership. The membership entitles you for exclusive access to the kernels and also he says you will make you a custom ROM or something. $5.50/month

yup. and the $5.50 a month entitles you to the updates of your kernel. otherwise, you're out of luck.
what a douche.
If he's distributing a modified linux kernel, he has to provide the source to go with it under the terms of the GPL. So, anybody who "subscribes" will have the rights to the source code and can republish that. If he's *not* distributing his source code along with the binaries, that's a GPL violation, and I bet the FSF would be interested.
I'm all for people asking for donations and all, but unless he's providing the code to subscribers this is a problem. If he *is* providing the code to subscribers, they can turn around and repost it for everybody else to use.
mind = blown
Thank God we have people like Team Whiskey, Eugene and JAC (not a complete list, just examples).

I know some of you use free upload services that are sometimes slow and make end users wait to download. I have my own domains and use a hosting package for my little website that has 150 GB of space and unlimited traffic allowed. I can set up a subdomain and ftp account for devs to use in exchange for a donate button if anyone wants to put in towards my hosting fees. Nothing required just an offer for the community.
I'm not a DEV, just a stupid user. (and i do mean stupid), but I wanted to thank you for such a generous offer. That is really cool of you, dude.

Ahh yes. That makes us brothers. I'm no dev but rather a very dangerous ppc pda owner. Completely moronic and stupid as they get. I usually have to read instruction 10 times on how to install apk files. So stupid I am. Worse than noobs. I once thought ppc stood for "pay per contract". But thxs for the offer.

I can only speak for myself but I frequent the General section a lot. I haven't given much input there but I do frequent it as there are really some decent topics being discussed. I have read other threads here were the OP says "well if I had posted in General then no one would see it". I disagree! Anyways I mean its easy to get things seen or heard, I mean cmon you just have to use your head a little tiny bit. For example if this was my thread. I would have posted it in the General section. Then I would have PMed the less than ten devs and themers we have in the Epic forums and told them to check out my thread. Then I would put the info in my sig. Maybe bold letters or colors. Its really not that difficult. Putting it here in the wrong section just promotes more incorrectly posted threads thus congesting the DEV section. The OPs intentions are good and I compliment him but he still needs to know where it belongs.
I'd prefer having threads posted in the wrong section to having to read more smoothone drivel. Every single friggin thread this guy is in there. Painful.

You do realize that most of these ROMs are 150mb or so in size? That means that only 1000 downloads and you're bandwidth for the month would be gone...and trust me, that will happen pretty quickly.
I'm also going to guess that since you've just got a small virtual hosting account and not a dedicated server, that you will have a pay additional charges per gig of transfer used over your 150 gig.
There's a reason why these files get posted to the free file hosting services

I believe they have 150 gigs of space and unlimited transfer. If anything I'd be concerned that the host would start throttling bandwidth... making for very slow download speeds. Not like the free file hosting services are fast tho...

Definitely correctly posted in the development forum. He wasn't offering free web hosting for anyone, just devs who have a rom they need a spot for.
And nice offer. If I had a rom to host I would be most appreciative.
By the way, there is a report post button that I have seen repeatedly mentioned by mods. That is the proper way to deal with a post you feel is in the incorrect place. You know how I know this? Because it exists...
Really awesome of you man. Thanks for giving back to the community.
Yeah, this isn't Dev per se, but it's not like his post was "Does anyone know when Froyo is coming out?"
This is at the very least borderline, IMO. He was contributing something which will aid in the development process.

My storage is 150GB. My transfer is unlimited It's a 1&1 linux hosting package.
To add my own experience to this...
I am hosting the Bonsai rom on my server, and while I expected it would use quite a bit of my bandwidth, I never expected that it would use around 100GB in 2 days.
I had to request that some mirrors be included to offset the bandwidth a bit (I only have 200GB a month BW). My Webalizer is showing 1574 hits for Bonsai v2.0.0.
It's a good thing you have unlimited BW, but I'm guessing that the download speeds will be throttled.
I mean, for $7 a month, I wouldn't expect they will let you rape their servers (bandwidth is expensive you know).

I've donated to jt1134 FOUR times, and I posted a PUBLIC link on a PUBLIC forum. He can refuse to post here all he wants, but I'm completely free to post a link to guide others to the right spot.

The link to JT's rom belongs in the DEV section, not General, because DEV is where people go to find ****ing ROMS. DUH! The whole reason I posted it is so the average uninformed visitor doesn't install Enyo's ICS SDK crap-fest and finds the real daily driver ICS.

Still doesn't belong in the Dev section because the Dev section is used for Devving. No Devving is going to occur in a thread that links to the real post, its an information post.
If random uninformed users flash Enyo's ICS instead of JT's that's on them for not reading.
PS - Nobody gives a **** how many times you've donated to JT, it's not like its some badge of honor that people wield about as weapons. Please put your epeen away.

However, when you sit back and don't get involved, it is quite entertaining. / heading to the store for more popcorn.

Awesome point.... let's talk about that. How much "devving" goes on in a rom thread? I'm going with none. They are release posts, nothing more!

When people don't post garbage in threads, plenty of Devving goes on in Dev threads. Or, at least it used to. That's just one of the plethora of reasons JT no longer posts here.
Nobody called you a leech, so there was no reason to mention it.

@Gfosco it wasn't Anything personal towards you. You also could have simply pm'd me and we could have spoke about it. I closed it because it turned into pages and pages of bickering, trolling and flaming.....
Sorry for my short reply when I closed it. I was watching my kids also and was having a rough time writing also.
I totally agree with you on the pages of BS. And I'm getting pretty sick of seeing it in the dev section myself also. Trust me I'm gonna do all I can to help man.
Regarding jts Rom, I dunno. Send him a pm and ask him about posting a dev topic over here on it and I will do my best to help keep it clean.

I have never used profanity in any of my posts nor have I ever sent it in a PM. I don't appreciate nasty, vulgar, f-bomb filled messages sent to me and I really don't like seeing it on the threads either, but since I am not the forum police I don't say much about it unless it's extremely vulgar and abusive, like the PM gfosco sent me. Anyone else who wants to get nasty, vulgar and abusive with me in a PM can expect me to expose the nature of the message for everyone to see. Count on it! /rant
Has anyone seen John Connor?

Awesome point.... let's talk about that. How much "devving" goes on in a rom thread? I'm going with none. They are release posts, nothing more!
The donate thing isn't a badge of honor, however I think it's an important point to prove I'm not just some leech. The system doesn't work if people don't support the developers.

I don't think you get it: Did you in any way consult with, ask permission for or notify jt in any way about posting a link to HIS work on this forum? If the answer is yes and he ok'ed it, then I apologize and I will go back to minding my own business. However, I know this is not what happened. You didn't ask his permission in any way and therefore you stepped over the line. Now, is it a really big deal, no. But, many of us are friends with jt (as much as you can be through the internet), we spend a lot of time in IRC together. So, we know his wishes regarding HIS work and we respect that. He has stated in NO way does he want any of his work posted on xda. We would rather not have jt say fu** it and stop posting builds on the forums period because his wishes aren't being considered. That would screw over a lot of people like yourself (who donate to jt) and there would be NO links at all to post, like the one you posted. The conclusion: was what you did, in itself, wrong? No. But you did not ask his permission to post HIS intellectual property on this forum, and that my friend is wrong. Did many of us sort of "attack" you for doing it? In a way yes, but you understand why. Please respect the wishes of the developers, and if you don't know there wishes....ask.

I don't need to ask permission from anyone to post a link to a thread on Rootzwiki.
Look, it doesn't make sense and I don't believe that JT is that fake-private about posting his work. (And I didn't post or re-share his ROM, only a link to Rootzwiki.) If it's public on Rootzwiki, why is anyone to think it's not straight up ****ing public?
Skynet! post that ****! I want to read what gfosco said!!!!
OK guys. I'm just gonna close the thread before things get to personal here.
Tomorrow morning ill b addressing this issue.
Peace, Josh
