I know some of you use free upload services that are sometimes slow and make end users wait to download. I have my own domains and use a hosting package for my little website that has 150 GB of space and unlimited traffic allowed. I can set up a subdomain and ftp account for devs to use in exchange for a donate button if anyone wants to put in towards my hosting fees. Nothing required just an offer for the community.
I'm not a DEV, just a stupid user. (and i do mean stupid), but I wanted to thank you for such a generous offer. That is really cool of you, dude.
Not a problem. Just went to download and was annoyed by one of those pay or wait to download sites and thought wait a second...lol

Ahh yes. That makes us brothers. I'm no dev but rather a very dangerous ppc pda owner. Completely moronic and stupid as they get. I usually have to read instruction 10 times on how to install apk files. So stupid I am. Worse than noobs. I once thought ppc stood for "pay per contract". But thxs for the offer.
Seriously thanks for the offer that is very nice of you but this really doesn't belong here. This belongs in the general section!

I can only speak for myself but I frequent the General section a lot. I haven't given much input there but I do frequent it as there are really some decent topics being discussed. I have read other threads here were the OP says "well if I had posted in General then no one would see it". I disagree! Anyways I mean its easy to get things seen or heard, I mean cmon you just have to use your head a little tiny bit. For example if this was my thread. I would have posted it in the General section. Then I would have PMed the less than ten devs and themers we have in the Epic forums and told them to check out my thread. Then I would put the info in my sig. Maybe bold letters or colors. Its really not that difficult. Putting it here in the wrong section just promotes more incorrectly posted threads thus congesting the DEV section. The OPs intentions are good and I compliment him but he still needs to know where it belongs.
I'd prefer having threads posted in the wrong section to having to read more smoothone drivel. Every single friggin thread this guy is in there. Painful.

You do realize that most of these ROMs are 150mb or so in size? That means that only 1000 downloads and you're bandwidth for the month would be gone...and trust me, that will happen pretty quickly.
I'm also going to guess that since you've just got a small virtual hosting account and not a dedicated server, that you will have a pay additional charges per gig of transfer used over your 150 gig.
There's a reason why these files get posted to the free file hosting services

Wow dude, is that your Dad's photo in your avatar...because you sound like you're about 12 years old. You've really got a stick up your ass if you're taking a smartphone message board this seriously. Go crack yourself a beer or take a nice big hit from your bong.
Personally, since he was making an offer to developers...this seems like a reasonable place for the thread. But what do I know, it's not my site and I'm not a mod. So guess what? I just don't worry about it. Maybe you should try the same.

I believe they have 150 gigs of space and unlimited transfer. If anything I'd be concerned that the host would start throttling bandwidth... making for very slow download speeds. Not like the free file hosting services are fast tho...

Definitely correctly posted in the development forum. He wasn't offering free web hosting for anyone, just devs who have a rom they need a spot for.
And nice offer. If I had a rom to host I would be most appreciative.
By the way, there is a report post button that I have seen repeatedly mentioned by mods. That is the proper way to deal with a post you feel is in the incorrect place. You know how I know this? Because it exists...
Really awesome of you man. Thanks for giving back to the community.
Yeah, this isn't Dev per se, but it's not like his post was "Does anyone know when Froyo is coming out?"
This is at the very least borderline, IMO. He was contributing something which will aid in the development process.

My storage is 150GB. My transfer is unlimited It's a 1&1 linux hosting package.
To add my own experience to this...
I am hosting the Bonsai rom on my server, and while I expected it would use quite a bit of my bandwidth, I never expected that it would use around 100GB in 2 days.
I had to request that some mirrors be included to offset the bandwidth a bit (I only have 200GB a month BW). My Webalizer is showing 1574 hits for Bonsai v2.0.0.
It's a good thing you have unlimited BW, but I'm guessing that the download speeds will be throttled.
I mean, for $7 a month, I wouldn't expect they will let you rape their servers (bandwidth is expensive you know).

Hey everyone, I would like to help the Hero ROM makers and users out. Rather than using a ad infested, slow free file sharing host, I'll provide free hosting on my servers.
The ROM listing is at: http://dl.bikcmp.com/
Note: When you click that link, it will redirect to a server. When sharing links, for example you are redirected to 'http://server1.bikcmp.com/rom/abc.zip' (just a example) and you're going to share a link on a ROM thread, just use
http://dl.bikcmp.com/rom/abc.zip, replacing abc.zip with the path to the ROM.
To add your ROMs to the server, either PM me, leave a reply on this thread, or contact me on the Sprint hero IRC channel (I'd rather have you do this, so I can talk to you faster) at http://widget.mibbit.com/?server=irc.bikcmp.com&channel=%23hero-cdma
This would not be here if it wasn't for the very generous few who donated their hard earned money to support projects such as this. Your kindness has not been forgotten.
Enjoy.

I don't think he was trying to be mean, I think he was saying "Are you sure that your server can handle this?". I could see someone hosting it from their home or something to try to help out, but they have a very slow connection. These are real servers, don't worry hehe. I do work with servers, so I know stuff about them .
As much as I hate to do it...
*bump*
I posted this at a bad time... not many people are on XDA at 12 am... hehe
Overall I like to host on my own server because I can completely control it and can easily pull downloads or change something if I need to. But I know on release days my site drags so having some decent mirrors would be nice. I'll be in touch. And thanks for this.

I have no Dev experience
I try different ROMs daily, from Cyanogen to Virus to ACS (Koni, Kings, thanks to you all) and back: I'm wondering if the best of these Dev's lifework couldn't be combined?
Here's what I'd love to see-
The performance of ACS meets the asthetics and tweakage of Cyanogen meets something entirely different from Sense (I like the Synergy v3.5 best, myself) and throw in free Mobile Hotspot for good measure.
Wish I had an input on Kernals and recoverys, just never studied up.
I can only hope a Dev stumbles upon this thread and cooks something up. All I can say is, as a Sprint employee, I know the phones. I'll help if I can, simply looking to get something started.
Post your hearts out, especially if you have ROM suggestions

...have you tried VaelPak yet?
I liked Vaelpak, except for the bat life. Didn't try any of the new versions tho.
Half my customers ask me to root their devices, most everyone within my company under 30 have rooted; people know about this stuff without even really knowing what goes into it. What can Sprint do to me when their are hundreds of YouTube vids posted showing how to root and which Rom is good, etc? These companies may be watching, but can't do a thing about it. Like Big Brother Lite haha
I got excellent battery life on VaelPak, and it's the first thing that came to mind when I read the OP. Performance is on par with with any other ROM and has all the customizability you could ask for.
On any of the more popular ROMs, battery life should be good unless an app is misbehaving or the kernel isn't playing nice (imho).
What can they do? Exactly what moto is... encrypt the boot loader.

A req for a ROM he'll love?
A req for "the best parts of all the ROMs he loves, cooked together in some unspecified vague manner, bug free and working for him"?
Frankly, if I was a dev here, I would be kinda... insulted.
(lol, as a "sprint employee", perhaps then you could Give a dev or two a phone of their choice, that might inspire them. )
I can't be fired from a company I don't directly work for. Especially considering I'll be of almost no use to a Dev and have yet to "leak" anything

Assuming your handle stems from personal experience and not some hypothetical situation, I would expect a more liberal approach to "following the rules" so to speak. If Sprint is too busy paying people to surf Xda for people like me "hypothetically" instead of pouring money into Clearwire and the WiMax network, then we can basically kiss nationwide 4G goodbye

I think we succeeded in giving him a headache and alot of negative press. They say that ANY attention is better than none at all tho. I know the site was down for like a day or so but it was up and running not shortly after and is currently. Here ya go:http://lmgtfy.com/?q=akaskriller
Skrillers site it up... BUT, I believe we were able to get all the paid apps off the site (which I am sure was a big draw for some to his site) and I believe a lot of the developers ROMs have been removed. I imagine the stuff up there now is his kanging.
Still illegal to have it behind a $5 donate wall.. still not crediting our developers... but the community is a lot better off now than it was a month ago.

Not trying to defend him but access to the site costs $5 not the roms or cracked apps. The apps are not on his site, their just links. So technically its not illegal.
What you guys did was helpful somewhat. You made people aware of his action but bought attention to him. Good or bad, doesn't matter.

You are incorrect. You can't put Android behind a $5 donate wall, which it is. He DID have paid apps on his site, because of us, he no longer does. Maybe the guy who made the app will actually get paid now. There is a thought.

I said something because paul is a huge figure as Android community goes and he deserves respect as does everyone. Android community is built on the backs of people liked him.
In comparison your post is pointless & if it want explicitly directed at me I would be removing it as it is unconstructive and is a direct attack (for lack of a better weird) on another user which is not tolerated. as it its I'll let it slide, but don't try and push it, I doubt another mod will do the same.

Please note I have considered the location of this thread being in the Development forum however I feel the thread is development related and this location is certainly the best place to have it noticed by a dev.
