Hey all. I was just wondering what kind of set up everyone has and why. So I'll start I have an r800i with a stock Rom. I have the Bravia engine on it and I ran v6 supercharger (which doesn't seem to have had any effect what so ever) on 2.3.4 with doomkernel overclocked to 2Ghz untill it gets to 40c then it's taken down to 1.6ghz. I'm running this because I want as much speed and power out of my system as I can get. I want it to perform. What about you guys?
I´m running my R800i with Darkforces ICS v4 and the Doomlord ICS beta Kernel.
The Kernel is running at 1.7GHZ, my AppStorage is increased to 420MB.
The best ROM I´ve ever had!!!!
Everything´s working fine, even Face Unlock, Battery Usage (I´m a extreme Daily User for Navigation, Email and a little bit of Gaming (GTA3 with Graphical Settings))
is the best ever had (up to 2 Days without Charging!!) and WIFI HotSpots/3G.

Mine can't even handle about 8 hours of texting XD
Mine's just stock Gingerbread, rooted, no extras
Darkforest ICS Kernel 1.6GHz, Smartassv2 Governor (Would be on DooM's if he had smartassv2)
Sony Official Beta ICS Rom With a sprinkle of Darkforest ICS on top
Bravia Engine, xLoud.

Are you using the stock battery ?
My Xperia Play doesn't last long either. Even with light use it can only last a day.
Not rooted. Everything stock.
I'm stock with a locked bootloader
Darkforest 3.1.0, stock kernel, just unlocked the bootloader today using omnius.

My setup is same with all Galaxy S phones I've used:
CM7, Stock Launcher, and ICS or Minimalbread CM7 themes, Setcpu set to 800mhz
The recent FXP115 CM9 had made great stride though, with Mass Storage mode and no slow USB transfer and no battery life issue. It's almost good enough for me to switch to permanently, just need a bit more responsiveness and bugs fix.

No it won't wipe the phone. You read through the thread and don't know what you have to do? Have you heard of the test point method of unlocking? I only ask to see if you knew what the process involved and just didn't know how to do it with omnius or had no idea what test point even was.

I have for now testing the DiXperia 'Monster' I deleted apps I don't use.
I have DoomKernel 13 with CPU 134/652 smartassV2 gov. and undervolted.
It works like charm
Have it with Doomkernel, stock rom
JokaWild ROM, with a custom theme mix, DooMKernel v13. Lowest possible minimum clock, 1.2GHz max, smartassv2 governor.
Super fast, good battery life. The next step for me will be installing V6 Supercharger.
Edit: current set-up= broken. Screen only works 20% of the time now.
But hey, when you don't have wrecked hardware, the set-up mentioned above is awesome.

I've seen somewhere that changing the I/O Scheduler to vr helps OC to 1.8GHz. I haven't tested it, and I don't know how much this affects the phone.
I just got my root on a few days ago. Before and after games play fine at the stock 1024mhz so I think overclock xperia really wouldnt mean much besides less battery life. Plus quad cores are early to mid 2012 ... hopefully something like the xperia play only jacked on steroids comes out next year. I honestly havent looked around enough tho I hope xperia play isnt the first and last of its kind!

Stock gingerbread with DooMKerneL. Remove bloatware apps and stop excess services. Can't get a better gaming experience than that (though some say V6 supercharger helps)
Can someone give me the links ?
What gingerbread ?

Stock is defintely what you want for gaming alright. I'd go with a stock based ROM so that most of the bloat is removed for you and not weighing down your device.
Something like JokaWild.
EDIT: by the sounds of it, you are going to have to do some research. Start by looking into flashtool.
Just noticed my above comment may have sounded condescending. It wasn't meant to be. Since you have flashed ICS successfully, I imagine you know how to flash a stock ROM.
From my experience Jokawild was the best gingerbread rom for gaming

What about for a R800x?
I have tried several different ROMS and not that these other ROMs are not awesome in their own right. But I always come back to my nandroid of stock Android 2.3.3
I rooted, then deleted all bloat in the system folder, and all the other apps that can be reinstalled to SDcard, map, talk, gmail, etc. I have around 180mb of free space according to my system/apps folder. I then used V6 Supercharger and set everything to aggressive with Nitro Lag. Now my phone is super speedy. I have no lag anywhere, all games play buttery smooth including GL games. I also am using DoomKernel by DoomLord and No Frills set to Performance, CFQ at 1.2ghz (dont like to OC too much just a tiny little bump)
And I also have a Sandisk Mobile Ultra 32GB HC-I MicroSD card. Was using a class 4 sandisk proir an this card was on sale on a camera site for $30, figured why not and got it, saw a difference with GL games as well, before they were smooth with an occasional slight stutter but now its all good.
Just found it, its $3 more then what I paid but still a great price and this card is awesome.

So, I'm using an ICS rom with the new Adreno drivers, and I get better performance on Fifa 12 then I got with Gingerbread. Is there a way to install the new Adreno drivers on Gingerbread?
I have tried most to all the roms as well and I will say I got the best gaming performance with the stock 2.3.3 rom (bloatware free) with doom's kernel. This had not only the best performance but also worked with most to all games.
I would of put 2.3.4 but gmail and google voice still wont auto sync. Once verizon decides to wake up then jump to 2.3.4. Hope this helps.
You will need to use flash tool (thread) to do all your kernel and FTF flashing.
Flash this: 2.3.3 FTF
Flash this: DoomKernel + Wifi modules (thread)
Boot up like normal and go through the setup. After that install titanium backup and start ripping out all that Verizon junk.
Install SetCPU and find your overclock sweet spot. Dont forget to set a profile to underclock you phone for when your batteries low. (I found that smartassV2 scaling gave me the best performance/battery life with a 1.6 Ghz overclock.)
This is for a r800x (Verizon)
That's pretty much what I did. I have the stock overclocked kernel, which isn't overclocked, but SetCPU is set to overclock to 1.6Ghz when any of my games are running.
Thread Closed, Thank You.

Definitely not, an ICS based ROM is the best e.g. NexusHD2. GB doesn't have full HWA and thus performance is not comparable to ICS.

But as far as ICS goes, yes i see the performance increase in it, but it has many issues still, although subtle, it does have lag spikes, even on an overclock.
Ιcs has better scrolling, you can write or edit more easy a big document but the issue that "kills" me and i went back to gingerbread is video playing. Also yes it can play better some games from ginger but not all games are compatible with ics and for some games you must move between newer and older ics hwa gpu libs.Cause older libs have more lag when moving between menus and newer libs cause some games to crash after 3-5 minutes of playing
In gingerbread you can play 720p videos, flash videos over 240p without lag.I am afraid that if we ever be able to get jelly bean, these issues will continue to be there

Battery drain is pretty much the same between CM9 and CM7 from my experience. Most of the time I can easily get a full day out of ICS with around 40% left.
Me too.I can get about 2.30-3 hours of full use with open screen in both roms
I really do think that the ICS roms must be better. However, i cannot play a few games on them -_-
The first one is N.O.V.A. 2 HD And the second one is Asphalt 6 adrenaline
Any clues ? NOVA lags like hell... It's almost unplayable
And asphalt just keeps showing the incompatible error -.-
Thanks in advance for helping !

Not much really. Just have JuiceDefender and SetCPU installed to try to minimize drain when screen off. When the screen is on, I really dont bother doing anything other than reducing brightness. Its actually a lot better than you'd think, I watched inception for an or and a half and only lost 24% of my battery. I've found it to be really inconsistent though.

Ok, ill try that then ill see if i need a new battery, my HD2 commonly only last 2 hours with 1.6GHz to 96Mhz on conservative gov.
I recently flashed the newest Trinity Kernel on my Nexus 7. I still have the stock ROM. I tried to tweak the CPU settings with ROM Toolbox and the most I can overclock is 1400mhz. Why can't I overclock to 1600? Is it because of the stock ROM? I'm looking into Glazed Jelly Bean as a custom ROM but I'm not sure I want or need to use a custom ROM at this point.
Any suggestions?
Because he dropped the Max. You probably flashed A111 correct? That's a TSVZ meaning it is slightly over clocked and undervolted kernel meant for battery not for performance.

Nice, ill have to look into rooting sometime soon.
Ok, I got the a96 and I've flashed it...
Is there a detailed changelog for each version? The a111 said it was a 1600mhz kernel so I don't understand why it was dropped down to 1400. That's where my confusion was.
I did notice some increase in speed at 1400. I was having some stuttering issues with Dead Trigger and Minecraft PE, and they were less with the 1400. I've got it running at 1600 now but I don't know what it will do to the battery or how well it will perform. I'll find out later. I've run through the battery pretty quickly today, but I was tinkering with it A LOT so it's not accurate.
What kind of tweaks could I do using Rom Toolbox that would help me maximize my battery while overclocking to 1.6?
Dont over clock.. i dont even see a need to. I use the ondemand gov which stutters a little but using interactive clears that up. Also using the CFQ IO as it is the stock IO used. Its stock so its gotta be good . Also you should turn F-Sync off that helps quite a bit. Also you could toggle auto hotplug and make it only run two cores while gaming and then turn it back on when finished so that way it will hotplug cores as it sees necessary. You could also up the voltages a little bit, some CPU's dont like the lower voltage and that will cause stuttering and glitching just up them by 25mV and see if it clears if not try another 25mV.
I will try those things, but I really want to play with overclocking and learn what happens. This is my first Android device so I'm experimenting and playing around.
But I have one more question...I've overclocked to 1.5...I found 1.6 to be the same as 1.5. But it seems that after an hour or so, it resets to 1.3. in ROMToolbox. Why is this?
Don't use rom toolbox. Use the Trinity app. It sticks just fine for me. Besides you support the dev to make better kernels.

youre not the first
Overclocking past 1.4 Ghz doesn't result in any major usability improvements. I've gone up to 1.7 Ghz and the only thing it does is make my tablet really warm and unstable. All you really need for improving system performance is I/O tweaks to speed up app and page loading, and a little bit of GPU overclocking to help with the transitional effects.
and, to be honest, depending which trinity kernel im using, im using either 1100 or 1150mhz mostly. on a111 im using 1100mhz and on a96 i used 1150mhz. with those speeds everything is still fast but a bit better on battery
Overclocking
If you want a little more information about the the overclocking if you havent already you might want to check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788759 its the official thread of the trinity kernel for grouper.

ROM is independent from your overclocking capabilities. It is the kernel that allows you to overclock.
Change the kernel into another one.

Have you tried RaymanFX's CM10, he's calling it stable(ish) and I think it supports overclocking out-the-box. I found EOS 3 nightly (build 81) the best for me, as it was the only JB ROM that gTalk worked in. However I just found any JB ROM not stable / responsive enough. Browser crashes now and again, Firefox was stable though LOL.
I went back to ICS and still can't decide on EOS 2 or Megatron 1.1.6. They both are ultra stable but have annoying artifacts when widgets are in use. Apparently stock is still got some issues for some, so it seems HoneyComb is the only 100% solution
Has anybody got a good stable ROM without artifacts? Stock has no artifacts but I want a low bloat MOD, preferably AOSP based.
Elite or K.A.T.
Elite is working very well for me.
You can also try K.A.T. kernel
Both will give you full satisfaction for sure :highfive:
EOS nightly (build 81) suits for me. Put cpu speed on a save 1200 mhz with AnTuTu CPU master. Stable, fast, smooth. No isues so far.
