Is the battery life a reason to wait till 510? - Acer Iconia A500

There's a epic deal on 1saleaday and I've been eying the A500 or a while, but I'm still not sure if I should get it because of the battery life (6hours?) and older gpu.
It was that or the getting a A700 or A510 or Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (For the pen input). All about 10-12 hours batt life.
All of them have microsdhc *prob xc too* , but the battery life and form of decent note taking is important to me. Thats why I'm leaning towards the Galaxy, but those will cost twice as much as the a500.
Price wise I can get it, but I'm just not sure if its worth getting the new stuff.
If it doesn't sell out I got about 7 hours to decide.

I won't pretend to know what you want or need in a tablet. I can only say this. If my Iconia A500 broke right now, I would definitely buy one just like it today without pause.
My battery life is fine and with one of the ICS leaks it is lightning fast. I wouldn't even consider a different option right now. I think that a highly functional dock is the only thing that any other Android tablet has over on it right now. Other than that this is a premier device.

Can those fat stylus's be used to take accurate notes?
The ones that work on all tablets, its why I asked because the note 10.1 is supposed to act like a walcom pen

I just tried it with Handwrite Pro. I don't usually use the stylus so maybe I just lack the proper feel for it. But my experience was less than stellar. It was too slow to use for faster note taking. I could get words in accurately, but not whole sentences. If you want I can try a different app.

at the moment i would wait. there are TONS of tegra 3 tablets coming out. from a new low end transformer with tegra 3, to the A510, to a 10" kindle fire a google nexus tablet and more! this is the year of android tablets

^ If you're gonna wait for Tegra 3, might as well wait for Tegra 4; after all, that's not far away. And if you're gonna wait for Tegra 4, you might as well hold on for Tegra 5, or 6, or 7. After all, they won't be long after their predecessors.
The point being, if you're gonna wait for new tech, you'll always be waiting. Buy the device that suits your needs NOW, or procrastinate forever.

If the deciding factor is battery life, all I can say is my average is about 8 hours. If using Netflix I can watch four 45 min episodes before I get any low battery notices.
I am extremely happy with my a500, does everything I need.
Just my 2cents, hope this helps

Tegra 3 = now and in near future (depending on brand loyalty)....It actually makes sense to wait for Tegra 3.
Useless post is useless.

Yeah I would go tegra 3 nothing wrong with our tab but since you haven't committed yet go with the newest tech

i'm looking at the price points. the price will go down on the tegra 3. So if its not an immediate need then waiting is always the option. I agree that tegra 4 will come out eventually but you have to give yourself a time frame in which to buy things. I want a tegra 3 @ $350 - $399 sometime this year. current market conditions does not allow tablets to be at this price range yet. But If i wait 6 - 8 more months i can easily get the price to be in my comfort zone. New tegra 4 will be expensive when it comes out but i don't need the cutting edge processors/tablets. just something that is smooth and works and not apple.

The T-Prime is only $100.00 over what you stated as your limit. IMHO it's worth every dime at $499.00 right now, although I'm certain that price will drop once again within the next three months.
I wouldn't go back to an A500 after being on a Teg3 tablet. While you can't miss what you never had, once you do, it's tough, if not impossible even considering taking a step backwards, and I very much enjoy my Prime! I sold my A500 for $300.00 on CL, put $208.00 more into it for a Prime...once again IMHO.....worth every dime!

Is it still worthit?

Many tablets are coming out in a couple of months equiped with tegra 3 one of which is the toshiba 7.7 with tegra 3 and super amoled screen similar to the tab. Tegra3 is always faster in running games and also has a very good battery life due to its helper core (5th core) plus most demanding and graphic intensive games are mostly designed to run on tegra. Should i wait for this or just shell out some cash and get the tab 7.7
Also i have red that one app that i always use is the splashtop which they just released a new version specifically designed for tegra3 processor so you can play graphic intensive games from pc and stream it to your tablet.
Quadcore cpu is the new technology and dual core is showing up its age , what do you guys think?
As many people say, if you always wait for the latest and greatest you will always be waiting. I got the 7.7 cause it was the newest model and I just wanted it, did i need it ? no but I just wanted it and the big seller is that I could finally use it as both a phone and tab, something that the original tmobile tab did not fully do. I am not familiar with tegra 3 but I do keep hearing about it. It is basically up to you and what your needs are.

Any device you buy at any time is going to be out-dated within a few days/weeks. Just the way technology is. Gotta decide what your use case is and determine if a device meets your use case, and if so go for it.
Well with chainfire 3d all the new tegra 3 games works just fine.
I had TF prime for a week. It was with HC but I would say it doesnt look like fast tablet. I can't even watch YouTube 1080p in blowser. Laggyy.

Pretty much, yeah.
chainfire for HC?
I think chainfire is.not stable for HC yet? Any1 is using it?
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is going to be leaps and bound better in the physical tablet war.. There's nothing coming out matching it's size/weight and feature set.
It's the thinnest and lightest 7-8" tablet in existence, has an amazing screen, a resolution only found in 10" Android tablets, list goes on.. Not the mention the 12+ hour battery life, besting the iPad2.
However, the CPU might be decently powerful at this time, but it will soon be easily overpowered by Qualcomm S4 tablets, Exynos2, OMAP5, (anything next gen, Tegra3 excluded). Tegra3 isn't that great, being based on Cortex A9 still.
allways a choice
This is the choice you allway have to make when it comes to electronic I personally buy something new and then enjoy it for a while until i just cant wait buying the next thing. Like its sayd many times before if you wait for the next "new" think, you can wait forewer
I really love my SGT-7.7 allthough i'm looking much forward to, it gets ICS

I have the Verizon 4G LTE and I have to say, with regard to portability, feature set and shear amazement at the size and screen this tablet is the all in one device I have been looking for especially in the portability arena.
The 7.7 is an exceptional Tab. It is actually the BEST tab on the market with all features, best form factor, best screen and overall best performance.
Quad Core CPUs are USELESS for Android at this time. Let me repeat that, USELESS! And the Tegra 3 is particularly a joke. The OS and NO APPS can take advantage of it. Good Dual Core is the way to go.
There is plenty of power in the 7.7 as it is and you can overclock it to closer to 2GHz making it a treat! For long time, it will be enough! I still have the original Tab 7 running an overclocked 1.4GHz CPU (from its 1GHz stock speed) and still works amazingly well. The 7.7 compared to it is a rocket.
Sure the Qualcomm S4 and OMAP5 sound sweet though surely Samsung will prefer using it its own Exynos2 in the near future that is "faster" than the current processor on the 7.7 but not so much faster.. definitely will be more energy efficient I think.
So, the 7.7 has plenty or life in it for a long way to come.
If I have any gripes on the 7.7 are the pathetic choices of Samsung sticking with the near 3 year old 3MP camera modules that are on every Tab no matter the new models (its absurd they never got upgraded) and the fact speakers need a bit punchier sound to them..
Other than that the 7.7 is a great Tab, as thin as it can be, feature full and with a screen to die for.
Buy it and love it.
I took the plundge and bought the international tab considering that im on ATT network. I bought all the accesories i can think of from the

Congrats!! Well done and enjoy
Spec wars are useless in this era of android...functionality is key. My samsung vibrant can do anything this tablet can...just a bit slower...a new tablet won't be able to do anything that this can't ...but other tablets like the padfone or transformer prime can turn into laptops if that's what you want...
For me...the screen is amazing and its portable to the point that I don't feel like an idiot leaving the house with it...so this is perfect for me

Wow you bought the whole shebang, nice!
I think this is the best tablet out yet, (until tomorrow that is ). The hype now of comparing CPU cores is exactly the same as the frequency wars on desktop CPU's a few years ago, and also very much like the sensor pixel count on digital cameras. Up to a point it becomes meaningless and pointless. Its all marketing to hype up a product.
For mobile devices the performance of a device is not solely governed by the CPU. Its the sum of its parts. Its why an iPhone4 (single core) is as responsive and as fast in practical use as a GalaxyS2 (dual core). The Tegra2 was a joke, and it looks like the Tegra3 isn't the messiah its been hyped to be either.
Welcome to the 7.7 club and I'm sure you will thoroughly enjoy using the device.

I would say it is defiantly still worth it. The portability of the device as many others have said is great. I don't really think there will be many apps that will really need or take advantage of a quad core CPU.
worth it? YES!
if you always wait about new technology, i think you'll buy your first tablet on next 10 - 15years from now.

Is the Tab 11.6 Vapourware???

Well if it isn't why no announcement???
I mean it would be a perfect opportunity to upstage the iPad 3 by announcing a tablet with a higher resolution.
I also know that a lot of the Apple Fanboi's are not happy with the A5X chip. They don't believe the hype surrounding it and are disappointed that it only A9 architecture still.
If the rumours about the Tab 11.6 sporting dual core A15 cpu and a ARM Mali-T604 GPU is true then why wait and wait?

Look at the Galaxy Nexus.
Google/Samsung: "Here is the totally awesome Galaxy Nexus."
Customers: "When can we get it?"
Google/Samsung: "Later, don't know when or where"
*a few months later the Nexus is released sparodically in countries with little advertising*
Hopefully Samsung learned from the bothed Galaxy Nexus announcement/launch.
They need to have the annoucement and lauch as soon as possible. Build the hype to the announcement and then let the people buy it, not hype it and let the gype die down BEFORE people can buy it (See Apple does it, they have it right).
Let's see what happens. Samsung has an event planned in a few days....

Agreed. the Tab2 has the same exact specs as our current 10.1s. What a drag. The Transformer Prime has really got me interested. The Tabphone (worst name ever) has a little too much going on for me to get excited about it. I'll have to buy the phone/tab/keyboard which I'm sure will cost upwards of a grand. The quadcore Prime will likely be my next purchase.

Keep in mind that the chip destined to power the 11.6 is just in sampling right now. It's not intended to be in production until next quarter. So summer would seem about right for a launch. If they get the Tab 2's and Note 10.1 out in the next couple of weeks that'll give those devices a chance to get some press and early sales. Announcing a newer better tablet before they launch doesn't really benefit Samsung. I'm also guessing the 11.6 will probably be more expensive than the iPad3 so it'll end up being a niche product anyway. The 16GB Note 10.1 Wi-Fi is supposed to be $600 itself.
Here's the latest on the Exynos 5250 that's supposedly being used in the 11.6. Samsung specifically mentions it's for high-end tablets.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 was released in June last year, but they announced the product in February and redesigned in in March. It was grueling waiting and waiting.
Perhaps Samsung is keeping it closer to the chest this time. Wants to get the product closer to a finished stage before unveiling it. Perhaps it's so awesome they don't want to tip off the competitors too early.
Hopefully it's a real product that gets released by June.

It terms of feature only good thing about iPad3 is its screen and everything else is disappointing but Apple does not sell its features but rather it sells a value which everyone craves and that is where all Tech companies have failed.
I might care about the specs, the Ram, Resolution and every other detail but an average person only thinks about what the products can offer him/her other than the tablets ' functionality and Apple is winning this game since it has become more of a fashion statement to own an Apple product which is why people do not bother to spend their nights in front of the store to get their products since they do not buy a product but rather they become part of Apple's ideology!
lol...................... I personally can care less but I do not understand why so many companies have failed to understand such a simple fact? :O

Yeah I read that the chip was only sampling in Q1 this year. I thought Samsung might have made an announcement to generate excitement within the Android community and possibly beyond (Apple), especially if the rumoured specs are true.
I also agree that it will probably cost more than the iPad, although I can't see it retailing for more than £500 for the baseline model. I think around £500 is more than reasonable if the specs are true, I mean its a generation ahead compared to the new iPad CPU.
I can't see the Tab 2 and Note 10.1 doing anything at all, they are joke of releases TBH. The new iPad has made sure of that.
If Samsung want to go toe to toe with Apple then they have to get in the ring before the fight is over.

It wouldn't be smart for Samsung or anyone else to make "big" announcments timed around the major release of an Apple product; it would get either lost or get half the attention. Knowing (from suppliers) that the iPad3 was coming out March-ish a lot of stuff was announced in February. The iPad3 fanfare should die down in a couple of weeks and then the PR machines will start up again.
The G-Tab 2's could certainly be successful if Samsung prices them below the iPad3. Pretty much all high-end Android tablets are going to be a tough sell though with a new iPad2 continuing at $399 and a refurb with a full one-year warranty at $349. Asus is flooding the market with multiple Teg3-based 10.1" tablets ranging from $399-$699 so it'll be intersesting to see how Samsung positions themselves.
With press like this, high-end Android tablets are going to be a tough sell...

Note 2 - Release August, 29

Samsung confirms Galaxy Note 2 release at August 29th event
Galaxy Note 2This coming August 29th, Samsung will be holding an event at IFA in Berlin, Germany, where the South Korean consumer electronics giant intends to rain on Apple’s parade. How do they plan to go about doing that? The answer is simple – there are rumors (which are going around pretty strong) that talk about how Apple might just debut their next generation iPhone sometime in the middle of September, so why not take away a little bit of its edge by announcing their sequel to the celebrated Galaxy Note smartphone (some say phablet) at IFA 2012?
a Samsung spokesman said on Friday, “We plan to unveil the next Galaxy Note at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin on August 29.” That is as much as Samsung or any of their spokespersons are willing to divulge, but since this has come from the horse’s mouth itself, we would take it to be gold. Personally, do you think a release of the Galaxy Note 2 before the iPhone would dampen Apple’s sales figures? I would say that the negative impact, if any, would be minimal as most people have already made up their minds which camp they are on beforehand. Otherwise, we would not have seen Spider-Man released before The Dark Knight Rises, as the latter has still outearned Peter Parker at the box office just two weeks and running, right?

yeah I just saw this on engadget earlier. Should be interesting I guess. I'm sticking with my OG note for now.
I just hope for an official 4.1 build from samsung for my current note and I be happy. Might be a long wait though.

Will get the Note 2 on Day ! :good:
It's just announcement not release date.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
That note the release. Thats just the date, when they are going to show it off.
I might hold off on buying the Note 2 (unless it comes to Sprint here in the USA for which I am sitting on an upgrade for my work line), but otherwise I am quite happy using my Note 1 on Straight Talk pre-paid.
Hopefully it preloaded with Jelly Bean.
And then the official announcement from samsung to update it also on original note
One positive thing about samsung is: they seem to have learned that it´s important to ship their products as near as possible to their announcement dates. Take a look at the SGSIII story: Anouncement was in May, shipment started in may as well.

Well if they announce it in August and still manage to ship it in August than they are my heroes
Only time will tell, lets just hope they will give the OG Note users a decent update to JB. From what I saw with the ICS update they just used the same TW and only changed the Android version, while GS III had a new TW and smoothness that we lacked. And I do not believe that its due to the specification difference, as if done properly our GNote would be as shutter free as the GS III.

Huh? Why do you think that? It already has been announced months ago, why should this be another announcement?!
Don´t think so. It will be the Note 2, I think.
--> "We plan to unveil the next Galaxy Note... "
How else could Samsung improve on the note 1 and make it worth a $700ish upgrade/purchase?
5.5 inch screen in a smaller body is nice but not irresistible.
Resolving the screen black clipping issue would be nice but there are some fixes/work-arounds already.
Maybe allow the note to self power external USB3.0 drives like the sgs3, also nice, but again not irresistible.
Some cool improvements i think would be realistic but never to be implemented, would be:
- Have a dual battery design, 1 very small under the lid, removable battery to allow for the larger battery to be hot swap-able (external port), thus, you'd never need to plug in ever, just swap and go. (Cant think of why they wouldn't do this).
- Same thing for the sim card design - either allow dual 3G sim and dual active standby ability, or design a hot swapable sim card port. (telecos/carriers would not like this feature at all)
- Waterproof sprayed inside out, equaling IP65 or something to allow peace of mine while boating/fishing (using the 3.5mm audio jack as the co2 spray hole to get rid of water inside after snorkeling ). (maybe costs to much? not reliable?)
- complete phone covered with thin film solar paneling, even on the front bezel. Im all for function over form. The surface area of the note is bigger than my 6v 250ma panel and turning on an app to force 2G mode, low brightness, etc. would allow some form of trickle charging to happen.
Com'on Samsung, take my free non patented ideas, before Apple patents them, only to sue others but never to to actually use/implement!
Unfortunately Note 2 won't worth it. It will have bigger, but smaller screen (5.5" 720p), same hardware as SGS3, probably with more RAM.
So I will keep my Note till Note 3.

Faster handling, faster camera, faster pen input, better pics, faster actions and probably a better soundchip.
The Note 1 was the best research object, if such a device fits to my demands. Now I hope that they´ll make it perfect.
Hellyeah, I´ll buy it^^
Not sure I want to upgrade due to the current emmc bug debacle. I've owned android phones before and have never been so scared to flash roms and mods, due to this problem. Every single day I read new "bricked note" posts from users. I see no reason to reward Samsung with more of my money until they at least fix the emmc bug.

Same here.
Give me 2gb of ram and I will insta-upgrade even if the other specs are the same of the actual.
Give me 1gb of ram with a octocore Cortex A15, 512gb of free space and super amoled plus ultra hd and I will not upgrade.

Note 3 day one buy features

I've been wondering what, if announced, would make the Note 3 (or any other phone) a day 1 buy for me.
There's always the incremental MORE/LESS stuff - more screen, less weight, blah blah blah
The note 2 is good enough that I don't consider any of that to be a strong selling point.
Has technology/innovation peaked? What features could/would make the Note 3 a 'must buy'
for Note 2 owners (versus the expected 'guess I'll wait for the Note 4)? Or from a business
perspective, would could make people who were uninterested in the Note 3 interested in the Note 2?
I don't think the S4 won over any S3 haters.
The only recent interesting things I've seen are:
wireless charging
unbreakable screen
Metallic body (which I personally don't care about, but it sure is making the HTC One hot stuff)
All of the above I'd love, but nothing I'd sell my Note 2 to get.

I want to go mad with power lol.
Octa Core!
The hardware technology is close to peaking, I think. Flexible screens are just a marketing gimmick for me, and better radios aren't really new tech but refinements of what we already have. Screens are either unbreakable but not unscratchable, or unscratchable but not unbreakable. As for power -- every week we read about how this or that development will give us vastly more powerful batteries (rechargeable in 30 seconds, no less) but the problem is, they've been saying that for the past six or seven years and we're still stuck with the same old Li-Ion technology. Wireless charging still means leaving the phone on some device or other to charge -- only you don't plug it in. Now if my phone's battery would start charging as soon as I walked in the door, I might sit up and take notice.
The only innovations that would give me an incentive to buy a new device (the Note 99, maybe?) on day 1 would be either 128GB or more of storage without a huge increase in price, or a change in Android specs to allow apps to be stored and run from external cards. Not allowing apps to run from external storage has got to be one of Google's more short-sighted ideas, given that each Android iteration, not to mention manufacturer and carrier overlays, seems to eat more and more of available storage space for its own use.

in my country, note 2 now is about 30% cheaper compared to when it was launched. if thats the case in your area and since you are still satisfied with your note2, id wait for a few months until it gets cheaper before buying. as a bonus the official rom you buy might be more stable the the 1st release.
For me, personally, it would have to be a huge increase in onboard storage (I'm thinking 128GB minimum). Also, I would prefer a dedicated micro-HDMI port, instead of crappy MHL. These two things would make me get the GN3 on release day, but if not, I'll stick with my GN2 for the time being.
1080p, Exynos Octa w/LTE, more storage...yeah, I'm probably going to get it at launch. Those are enough to excite me.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Frontal stereo speakers, Adreno 330, Snapdragon 800, metal body, 1080p 64 GB storage... these things are desirable, but still probably wouldn't buy it... and definately not on day one. Just recently got my Note 2
More likely when I switch, it will be to the Note 4... or perhaps some nice HTC/Sony. Maybe even a Nokia EOS, if such a thing ever breaks free from the rumorland....
I want a note 3 with all s4 features minus lag, screen tint and smearing issues (realistic wish list). It would be enough for a year at least. I would prefer a screen of 5.7 inch max, but it should never go beyond 6.0. The battery should be around 4000MAh. I don't care about body but design at least should not be carbon copy of note 2/s4. The minimum storage should be 32gig.
Larger screen without increasing the body size.
Larger battery, and I don't mind making the body slightly thicker either. For me battery life is more important than have it be under 11mm. I think 12mm is fine.
HD display, without a doubt.
SPen upgrade. I love the current generation, but if they can't make it any better then that'll be fine by me.
Next generation processor which I'm sure will be in there.
An awesome camera This one is good, but not that good. I'd much prefer something better.
I think that's it! If they add on a capacitive home button and an extra gig of ram I'm sold.
Thinner, lighter, better battery, full hd and 13mpix camera at least (or better if they can squeeze it). Battery life is fine with me. Processing power I don't care about anymore (it's plenty enough already).

Samsung will never set 32gb as minimum storage. They rather will cut it even more (like in galaxy s4).
Have to say I am impressed with my Note2 so far the best Android phone Ive had. Its the only phone I have not had to tamper with to make it faster. I did root it but no custom rom. Never had it die on me, been using it close to a year now and it still amazes me. Awesome device. The Note 3 would have to be significantly better to justify an upgrade. I agree with with what someone hasmentioned already, i believe we have reached a peak now....and only encremental changes will come. Else if they do decide to go all out with the Note 3...we will all be guinea pigs....like with the first samsung galaxy s.with the note 2 we have the perfect balance between battery life and performance. I still carry a spare battery around...just incase.

I want the 7.7 since release date, but never find one here in europe. After many tabs like a nexus 7, Gtab 8.9, Asus Fonepad, SonyZ, Acer and many more, i found a shop 1 month ago that get a contingent of new 7.7. In times of quadcore i buyed it for 250.- brand new and like it very much.
The best tablet i ever had.
For a 2 year old tablet its very good. better specs like the tab3 and other brand new devices. Asus present the Fonepad but the 7.7 could do this years before.
Iam so interested why no producer makes a tablet with specs like the 7.7. Thin, sdcard, umts, phonecall with 3g, 1280er display bigger then 7 inch and a very good accutime. Only the p6800 had all this like 2 years ago.
most premium looking tablet. i hope the next one is borderless since we dont usually hold this by the bezel, leave that for ipads and 10 inchers.

This is the best designed tablet. However, it's limitations rests on Android. For tablets, we need a full fledged operating system like Windows 8. Not only is Windows 8 a complete OS, it runs 100x smoother than Android.
We can have a 8 cores 9000 Ghz CPU with 5,000 GB rams. It will still lag on Android. Sorry, but my next tablet will be windows 8. For mobile phones, Android is ok.
Just waiting for a 7-8 tablets to be released with windows 8. It's too bad that I will no longer have the call and text feature of the Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Enjoy your "complete" OS. Cm9 ROCKS this tablet with tremendous battery life. Btw you might want to invest 1.2k or more if you want windows 8 full with no lag, and not just the RT version since it's not a "complete" os. Oh and don't forget a shoulder bag to haul the thing in. I've messed with a few of them but the battery wasn't that impressive and they were way heavy (the guy was hauling it in a backpack). A laptop would have been a better choice than a full x86 slate IMHO, but by that time the argument is "laptop vs desktop". Rabbit trails.
Good luck!

Large screen phones are a rarity. This company's Aries range looks promising though I doubt they will match the build quality of the 7.7

No... No oled ---> ignore!
Friend of mine decided to flash off his new 8" Note 3 last week, insisted on showing everyone how good the screen quality was.
He decided to show an episode of Horizon (BBC Science TV show for overseas readers) about black holes in 720p, funnily enough I had that episode on my 6800 so we played them side by side.....everyone in the office said ".....Oooo the picture on that older one is so much better...much sharper and more vivid....." he wasn't a happy bunny!
Don't know if anyone noticed but a 6800 sold on ripbay UK last night for £180, in good nick with the box and accessories.
I've got 3 6800's and a 6810 now sitting in various docking stations doing assorted things, just wish there was an official 4.2.2 release.
Ho Hum
My 7.7 is my baby. It's my main device for everything, entertainment, odd games and portfolio device. The device I read the daily news and catch up on tech news, reviews and read xda every night in bed. My wife knows not to disturb me when I and with my baby lol.
I have a note 10.1 also which I doodle with. I have the same apps on both but I just don't find the note tab satisfying to use like the 7.7. It's not just the looks, it's the whole ergonomics also. 7.7 is the perfect size for me. Big enough to read websites on and small enough to carry around. I love how thin it is and how premium it feels.
I'm amazed that even though the device got the all clear by the courts (Apple being jealous and trying to hinder the sales) Samsung should have expanded on this design. The 10.1 is ugly at best. The 7.7 looks beautiful.. like a Porsche.
It's a shame, I am tempted by the New 2014 note 10.1, that does look nice but it still is a little off. Also I'd prefer a smaller size. And then there's no amoled. This is a big booboo.
Sadly the 7.7 is feeling the strain. It is getting old and a bit slow. I always need more ram and on the p6810 I can't use multi window. I really love this feature on my note 10.1 and would love it for the 7.7. Thing is can I justify spending a couple of hundred quid for a p6800 - an old device that I know is slow for some tasks already just to get multiwindow?
Hmmmm decisions decisions....
Sent from my GT-P6810
Man, I love the 7.7 but since swapping (and cutting) my SIM into the new Nexus 7 FHD LTE, I haven't looked back. I rarely used the dialer on the 7.7 since I also carry a phone, and I can always make voice calls using GrooveIP if I need to.
The thinner bezel on the Nexus 7 means I can put it in most of my pockets now. The 7.7 is really chunky compared to it, and for not much more screen space. True, it isn't SAMOLED so colors aren't as punchy, but much sharper resolution. Plus, no lag! The 7.7 was always laggy, sadly

Totally agree. Just the right size, great screen, great feel... To see a 7.7 v2 for /2013/2014 would be fantastic. Screw Apple for litigating this tablet out of popularity and therefore dev support :/
Was looking at buying a new tablet a few weeks ago.
What I wanted:
1. HD AMOLED screen
2. Can make calls
3. 7-9"
4. Can install AOSP-style ROM
Nothing that you could buy new fit all these criteria except for the 7.7 which was released 2 years ago!
So I bought a 2nd hand 7.7 for $250 and haven't looked back
Only thing that I think could be improved is a faster processor and more stable custom roms and it would be perfect!
Finally sold my 7.7 tablet + my android phone to give way for a Note 3. I have to let go of bringing and maintaining two android devices (Phone + tablet) at the same time. I really love this tablet but sad to say, some good things really never last.

That is also my ultimate aim (single multi-purpose device). sm-n900 in 3 weeks ! The newer devices don't really need that much tweaking, but won't stop me trying anyway.
Still have some fun & unfinished work with this tab though, before passing it on..... keep it in the family
