Sprint: any GB ROMs with battery life as good as ICS? - Nexus S General

Sprint: any GB ROMs with battery life as good as ICS?
The few that i have tried were draining battery like crazy...thanks.

My favorite GB rom was NSCollab. I maxed out at around 25hrs of battery life using that rom and Matr1x kernels.
ICS is so far beyond GB that I can never go back. AOKP with Steve Garon's kernels netted 51hrs with 5-6hrs of screen on time while running twice as smooth.
Currently running euroskank 3/31 4.0.4 with Trinity T11 and am seriously impressed - now that 4.0.4 is out, there is no going back to any 4.0.3 or 2.3.x rom.

I was getting long standby times - but as soon as I started using the phone - poof! Battery drain like crazy.
Anyone care to update on the newest 4.0.4 (official) Sprint software? (I am now using my Photon, otherwise I would test it myself.)
Thanks for whatever input you have.

I'm running the officially unofficial sprint ics. I have never got very good battery on this phone. But here's what I have so far, first day running it.

Oxygen 2.3.2 I believe was amazing, stockish but with just enough mods to get the most out of GB, sometimes I flash back to it

I was a big Oxygen and BB Gingerbread guy b/c battery issues on ICS for me too. Try Swamp Goblins AOSP 4.0.4 smooth and Im getting the same if not better battery on his, Deodexed with a couple mods, and stock kernel its sweet!

Pete's Bugless Beast GPA19 had much better battery life than any of the ICS roms I tried.... so much so that I'm still on GB

Weird I thought GB battery was much better than ICS....

Not for me. ICS offered twice the battery life over GB, as I mentioned above. I maxed out at less than 30hrs with NSCollab GB but over 50hrs with AOKP milestone 3 (with around 5-6 screen on time).

Details are posted in the various other battery threads and the AOKP and SG kernel threads. I ran 100/1100mhz, stock voltage, interactive governor, and turned mobile data off when not being actively used.
I have to mention that this combo was smooth as silk, very quick, and I suffered not one single lockup or reboot.

Anyone know how this recent unofficial official fairs? I just got a new Nexus tonight and will be loading something up in the morning...

I get similar results with just about any GB rom I've tried. Currently running Oxygen 2.3.2 with Lynx kernel. Trying that one out, looks very good so far.

Nexus S overclocks.

I'm interested to know the overclocks that everyone gets and what kernel/roms they are using.
I'm using Cyanogenmod 7 RC1, Netarchy 1.2.4 CFS. At 1.2 Ghz atm.
Well my signature down below is what im currently using.
I tried to up the speed to 1.3ghz and it worked fine but i had one random reboot, and so i just decided to go back to 1.2ghz.
No problems at all so far.
Edit - its the 1.2.4 cfs version of netarchy by the way!

Stability? - I'll get back to you on that after a few more days of usage.
its a shame some phone tolerate higher overclocks better than others
It's natural though, it's the same with overclocking pc processors - some handle higher speeds and that's that XD
I'm running CM7 RC1 with Netarchy 1.2.4 CFS
@ 1.2ghz stable, I can't hit anything higher though.
1.3ghz with nightly #1 and netarchy 1.2.4 bfs rock stable
i use a bunch of different kernels, mostly different trinity kernels(released and test kernels) and netarchys kernels. my ns can run stablely at 1.6ghz, and even run 1.7ghz but not very stable. that said, i mostly use 1.2 through 1.5ghz for daily use(almost exclusively with cyanogenmod). 1.6ghz and 1.7ghz i save for benchmarking, they are not that great on battery life as you can imagine

Opinions vary on that. O/C'ing these phones has no real purpose other than as a geek factor. There's nothing I've installed on my phone that pushes the default clock speed on these hummingbirds.
With that said, I can run at 1.3 and remain stable. Just no reason to and the negative potential impact, instability and more importantly accelerating the death of the CPU, presents more reasons not to O/C than there are to do so.
Opinion yes, but if someone has an app they use that doesn't run well at stock, but does when overclocking, I'd love to hear it and try that scenario out.

100% correct.
Developers, give me better apps/games so I can actually use the device's potential. Until then, everyone else can have their wet dreams about getting a dual core phone.

its weird, before netarchy instituted the safeboot at 1ghz feature in his kernels i would just get boot loops but after boot i can overclock it as i please .
im not really complaining either way i just think its funny

Awesome flashing right now.
Does the UVing work with MIUI or is the same as with the Escapists kernel?
Works with MIUI, untested on cm7. Problem is with MIUI, the sliders aren't calibrated to the screen right so its tough to slide and get a good voltage.

Ya so same thing with the Escapists deal, Ill test, but happy to see this. Flash went successful.
EDIT: Voodoo Sound doesnt work, and it seems pretty choppy right now at 1.2 OC with MIUI
EDIT 2: OC'ed at 1.4 its flies. But 1.3 it was still choppy. Odd.
And just a request you think you could try Kanging voodoo color from the Escapist's kernel?
For some reason everything is choppy after a boot but before you turn the screen off and on. Also, voodoo sound is 100% there, have you run the app?

ya I have never run my phone at 1.4 but thats the only thing that makes MIUI not really choppy.
But it really has payed off its 100% stable for me and the fastest my phones ever been. Getting about 19.5-20 in Linpack, and just overall the phone flies.
So heres my equation for success:
MIUI B6+Trident FTW

the CM CPU adjuster I've noticed does that.. I use SETCPU. and it works fine if you have the latest version and don't use set on boot

Ha, yeah. It can be fun, reminds me of my 3Dmark days.
Nothing special, the score is from a few months ago.. I froze most of the services and closed everything (about 130mb ram used in task manager)
I was using Tegrak to OC. Settings were 1600mhz, 1400mv core, and 1125mv internal.
Beware, running your phone at these kind of voltages is dangerous and could kill your phone. At 1.6ghz it was not completely stable and would freeze after about 10-15min.
Yeah I can imagine mine barerly handles 1.4 and likes to freeze just running this app every 30 mins or so. Any scripts or anything if not man could only imagine if you ran the v6 script mine runs at around 120mb of ram in task manager 70 in the running services.

The best rom and setting

I want to hear from you too guys. What is best rom for you and what setting are you using like scripts, which kernel, tweaks etc.
including new roms like PrimeHD, FireDroid, GingerJHv etc.
It would be better if you could write like pros and cons including antutu score or similar otherwise its hard to understand anything just from one word or sentence without any explaining
dont make chaos here please
My favorite is Gdx
Pros:
-the smoothest scrolling ever
-perfect 2D
-nice 3D performance
-fast, stable and reliable(no FCs)
-everything is working
Cons:
-Huge battery drain!!!
I was on alfs v06 kernel running v6supercharger script oc @ 768mhz
Antutu: 1800+ (it has improved a lot for new roms especially 3D score)

The fastest rom so far is FireDroid 1.0 with ALFS 7 ICS. No need for scores - trust me on this one.

Yes, but the whole point of the thread was to show your scores LOL
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
Well yes! dont be lazy! ;D but thats not the most important obviuosly, the most important is how stable and fast a ROM is!
I just thought maybe this will help for someone who doesnt know which rom to choose!
And I want to know too, what others think!
I've been using MinCM7-2.1.x for the last week or so now, seems to be very stable so far with the latest nAa kernel. Has pinch-to-zoom functions, everything working (e.g. camera, radio) and has nightly builds. Great ROM, fast as hell, well worth a look at!
Update on MiniCM7-2.1.9 benchmark results (this benchmark is NOT on a clean install / has many apps installed which probably isn't the best way to benchamrk this ROM, I will update results with results from a "clean" install);
Update:
As a fresh / clean install the score is nearly identical @ 1642 SCORE.
want to see
Currently using MiniCM 2.1.9 with Naa kernel and extremely happy with it.
AtiCM v3 was extremely fast for me but was unable to install Whatsapp so switched to MiniCM.
OK.... I just benchmarked the FireDroid 1.0 ROM. - Clean ROM install with Alfs07-ICS kernel (AnTuTu, Screenshot it and TaskManager installed only!). First thoughts is this ROM is super-fast and will be amazing with some more work. Not tested too much but the first thing I noticed was no support for HPSA, only able to use 3G. Pinch-to-zoom works perfectly. Camera works, not tested radio functionality.
Benchmark results below. I noticed the SD Card Read performance was low-ish after first benchmark (benhmark app installed to phone memory in the first benchamrk, then moved it to the SD Card and re-run the test which seemed to slightly improve the data speed but decreased other functions, both outputs below):
If HSPA was working in this ROM I would happily keep using it, but I'm going back to MiniCM7 for now!
I use ROM: Achotjan Semc Debrand Engine | V1.0_Beta-2 | FreeXperia Project |
-it's nice,
- fast,
- new,
- it's look like original 2.1.C.0.0 but it's original copy of Xperia Mini.
Bugs for now:
- (wifi- for someone works),
- USSD codes problem= com.android.phone it's not resposonding
Everything work fine!
You just need unlock bootloader, nAa v11 and be happy.

Which combo are YOU running?

Which Rom, paired with which kernel(clock, governor and scheduler too), on which device? Trying to get more of an idea as to where the popularity lies with the nxs
Check Sig. I'm still on ICS, not ready to make the JB jump.
Nexus S (GMS i9020a)
Paranoid (1.6 - 4.0.4)
Matrix Kernel (CFS - 20.0)
Ondemmand (1000/100)
Deep Idle (On - Deadline)
Live OC - 100 (400/800)
BLX - 98 (Inverted Apps)
right now on the NS4G
Burns' CM10 latest, 8.06
w/ thalamus kernel
thalamus is fast, with little to no lag at all...best i've experienced. Battery is also equal to ICS if not maybe slightly better

CM10 V1.10 + Trinity
JellyBelly 1.0.0 with latest thalamus kernel
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
cm10 v1.10 + custom built kernel (stock merged to 3.0.39 + voodoo sound + blx)
config: default voltages, ondemand, CFQ
This combo results in smooth operation and great standby time...
I just noticed that the default IO scheduler for my custom build was CFQ, and other kernel developers have to change it if they want 'deadline.' I thought the default in the stock kernel was 'deadline.' Is this still true for JellyBean? If so where was this set when building the kernel?

Ditto for me too. I prefer the streamlined kernel to the other kernels with extra "fluff." And so far, CM10 has been performing well for me too.
Stock I9020A JellyBean
Simple Kernel 1.3.2 (it has voodoo colors!)
Ondemend

I don't see your point.... Yes I may have tried JB ROMs, but I keep coming back to this set up as a daily. I can't stick with JB, I am not ready to make the full jump and loose everything I currently have.

JellyBelly 1.0 with Thalamus kernel here too. I'm really happy with it except for the lack of Voodoo Color. Does anyone know of a kernel that's as good as Thalamus but with VC? I find the stock colors to be really ugly, but don't want to sacrifice stability just to get them. Or if anyone just does a repack of Thalamus' kernel with VC, that would be ideal I think.
