Fast ROM! - EVO 4G General

I'm getting extended battery soon and don't care about battery anymore, I just want something that is blazing fast, any sugestions.. or opinions on nitrous.. sounds like a fast ROM
sent from my EVO EXPRESS 4g

Nitrous is crazy fast. I'm using Boot Manager, which runs ROMs from the sd card and stock kernel, still very fast. Normally, Sense ROMs slow down in BOOT Manager, but not this one!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA

Aosp roms are always faster since they don't have the bloat of sense added it eats up alot of ram that when.freed up really makes the phone alot faster

I asked same question. Been using synergy else 1 w/ god mode. 4 g. Downloads up to 12 MBs. Quadrant scores up to 1600. Midst have agressive freedom kernel for god mode. ROM is stable but no longer supported or under development

Or you could upgrade to a new device like the et4g and get speeds like this

Faster must equal better battery life. In rom atleast.
What you should do is set the CPU at a higher clock.

I still have my upgrade, my dad is a phoneaholic and buys a new one everytime something cool comes out, he switched from evo-3vo-photon-et4g-gNote I inherited the evo first the 3vo was returned for the photon, he added a line to get the et4g then switched to att to get the note I hated the photon so when he went to att I got the et4g so now I have the et4g on my main line and the evo on my 2nd line, he has the note on his main number which was ported to att and has the photon on his 2nd number which is still sprint, the note is a bad ass phone, I wanted the gNex til I played with one on vzw next to my et4g and I like the et4g alot better just can't wait for a stable cm9 or AOSP ICS rom then this thing will be a gNex on roids, the screen is so much nicer being a super amoled plus vs just the super amoled

I loved synergy but I had a lot of small bugs with it
sent from my EVO swagger

Haven't tried a lot of roms but I tried Synergy, Energy, and MikG and MikG is really fast and responsive. I really enjoy this rom.

If ICS and speed is your thing, I recommend AOKP (now HWA). With the Mason Kernel + FSO
also, max OC (1152-ish) on the performance governor should do you well performance wise.

Might make me jump ship when this is released!
Ya, I'd sell this phone for $200 and possibly my Evo for a phone with those specs. Plus you wouldn't have to put up with the drama here, so consider me SOLD.
I am waiting until Sprint decides on its future 4G plans.
Those specs are sexy but ill wait a few before i get it
to see whats going on with the Epic and also the pros/cons of it from other xda users experiences
This paired with project leapfrog makes Sprint #1 by far. Verizon no longer has anything on them. EVO 3D will win phone of the year, even of the iPhone 5 when it comes out in August.
I'm excited i wanna see what the new qHD displays look like
HOLY ****! 3D Pictures? That's awesome!
I'm already jealous lol
Hmmm... sounds kinda cool, but I'm honestly pretty happy with my Epic. Don't get me wrong. It sounds like a sweet device, but it's just not nice enough for me to justify switching.

Very true!
I will consider an upgrade (Premier Gold) provided a new phone meets my prerequisites of:
- physical keyboard
- 4" screen or bigger
- better camera (most important factor)
Somehow I missed that it will be dual core, not just 1.2 Ghz. I'm a bit more interested now lol. Although, that display would have to be pretty awesome... Unlike the previous Evo variations. Yuck!

You guys realise that our epic should be just as good over clock it to 1.3ghz and the powerVR gpu in our epics I believe are still better that the snapdragon ones. Plus that higher resolution on the qHD displays don't get as good framerates cause it taxes the cpu and **** harder didn't you see the thread that compared the atrix and other phones. I will keep my epic for now. I like my keyboard even tough it skips letters haha.

HTC Pyramid is the same exact phone (Yea, I know. Shocking news that HTC makes 45 exact same phones and just names them differently). Same processor, same resolution, with SLIGHTLY lower ram. LOL. GPU is utterly destroyed by the Galaxy S. Snapdragons are so crappy.
3D is just a gimmick. You have to have something that can display the images, and you have to wear those glasses. Its cool in theatre on the big screen, but on that little phone me thinks not.
I'll be keeping my Epic for quite awhile, planning on skipping the next gen just because I don't see it being much of a leap. When something comes out that my phone can't do then maybe I'll worry about it at that point.

Giving serious thought to moving to the Evo 3D

Anyone else giving serious thought to moving to the Evo 3D from the Epic? I am. I know the bootloader is encrypted and that there is no guarantee that it will be unlocked but I just went to the Sprint store and played around with one for a few minutes.
What I noticed was that the screen was not nearly as washed out as the Evo 4G. I also liked how incredibly smooth the screen transition effects were. I've always liked sense but I also like TW3 and TW4.
So the one thing that really caught me off guard was the 3D pictures and movies. I was a little shocked at how cool they looked. I totally thought it was going to look like crap and that the 3D would be a feature I would never use. WRONG! I would probably use it all the time.
No, I've heard the 3D is pretty much rubbish. I'm sold on the Within which'll be released in about a month's time. A far superior phone imho.
what is the Within?
Edit: ah its the galaxy s2. That phone is the best smartphone made to date.

Because they don't get to bash it for having a weaker GPU like they did with the Evo 4G.
I had and evo 4g it is agreat phone , also had the nexus s and now the epic they all hav e there ups and down I do want a gs2 phone tho if it is slim as the european version I'm definetely gettin it, my upgrade is do in december (maybe I get the nexus 3 if avaiable for sprint) so will see what's out then I was gonna get and evo 3d but qhd doesn't convince maybe it would if ithad sper amoled screen that's one of the reason I like the epic and the nexus, evo screen suck compare to my iphone 3gs, but for now the epic is doing good I hope gingerbread is out soon for epic

the gpu is a single gpu.. thats all, no tom foolery its not a quadcore gpu with a dual core cpu..
as you can see from the chart.. the nexus s gets 20.9 fps, to get the same performance of an evo3d on this test (bear in mind this is a graphics/gpu test so cpu does have a small part to play in it but not as much) i could overclock my nexus s 4g to 1.4ghz and stomp the stock evo3d...
now why does this matter? you are taking a 1ghz single core, doubling the cores and adding a 20% boost to clock speed to get this kind of.. "performance" boost... now just to be fair ill post the scores of the pro version
now we can get to the good stuff sure the htc evo3d is now on the top, congrats hurrah! please refer back to number 1. you are talking about a cpu that has 220% performance boost, a brand new gpu.... and you get a increase in 11.5 frames per second. now sure when it gets hacked.. and if it can do overclocking im sure it will further push those specs... but from where im standing right now the evo3d is a bit of a joke. ill hold out for the nexus 3 or the sprint within... kthxbai
also as a side note i think its funny how a tegra 2 phone like the atrix takes a 9 fps hit compared to the stock android lg g2x, clearly motoblur is for the best
I was all excited about dual core phones till my roomie got an atrix. Android just isn't ready for it yet. Aside from benchmarks you can't really feel a difference.
Unless I see a massive change before my upgrade (in November), I'll hold out until the new phones are announced at CES and the other shows in the early spring. I'm hoping for a phone that is better than qHD (a la retina display).

Smoothest sense rom?

In your own opinion, what's the smoothest sense rom and which kernel are you running? What's your battery life like and which battery do you have?

I've really enjoyed Synergy with the Warm Theme and 2nd would be MikG.
MikG with the chop suey kernel is a pretty good combo

Classic with stock kernel by far
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
For smoothest, another vote for Evo Classic w/ your kernel of choice (stock, anthrax or chopsuey.)
MikG is a close second.
MikG 2.60 with Freedom Less Aggressive kernel. Fully functional Sense 2.1 + 3.0, and very smooth (even at 921MHz, which is what I usually keep it at while it's off the charger).
If you care about Linpack scores (which, in my experience, are better guides to smoothness), my average Linpack score is 37 (sd=0.35, with 1GHz clock speed; score jumps to 40.2 if you overclock to 1.1GHz). For comparison, I never got over 35 with FreshEVO 3.5.0.1 at 1GHz with any of the 5 kernels I tried, and the overall average was around 33.
As for battery life, when I have a good signal all day (I promise this is a stock capacity battery - I gave up on extended batteries when I was using Froyo with SBC, and never looked back after figuring out how to optimize battery life with Tasker, SetCPU, and AutoStarts):

On work days, it comes off the charger at 7:30am, and from 9:00 to 5:15 I'm sitting 20 floors up in the center of a building with horrendous reception (I use Tasker to manage mobile data, cycling it for 8 minutes an hour when I'm at work to reduce drain), and I'll still have 68% when I'm leaving for the train. I have battery log files for every day since installing MikG, if you'd like me to make some charts.
To be thorough, I use these batteries:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003L2VERC/ref=oh_o03_s00_i00_details
No, they're not authentic HTC. But they work great.
I've also tried Synergy and Shooter. Synergy was ultra-buggy for me. Most HTC widgets didn't work properly, and it became frustrating having to continually kill Sense to force it to restart to make other things work properly. Of course, every phone is slightly different, as are everyone's settings. Shooter just wasn't smooth at all, on my phone, so I passed on that one after a short trial.
currently running 1.05.12 build of Energy Rom sense 3.5 + anthrax kernel. battery life is decent imo.

Fascinate vs LG spectrum

About a month ago I got a early upgrade to a 4g phone. Me and my dad ended up with 2 LG spectrums. Cuz they were on sale $199 buy one get one free. WORST CHOICE EVER. From the beginning it was nice. Dual core 1.5ghz 1gb ram. 4.5" screen. Spec wise its one of the best Verizon has. Actually using it. Its worse than the fascinate. Bloatware is crazy. LG apps slow it down. Development kinda sucks. Nobody can get a working cm7. All we have is debloated themed stock. Running at 1.8ghz is nice but battery takes a huge hit. For normal use. Its a decent phone. And maybe it will be when ics gets pushed to it. But as it is right now. Most of y'all that are used to constant updates and new things readily available. You probably wont be happy with it
I thought I would inform you guys of my experience since I'm sure alot of fascinate users are due for an upgrade soon.

Haha. Nice. Worst part. On top of LG development sucking. Verizon sold me one that gets no 1x signal. 75% of the time i can't make a phone call. When it says ive got good signal. I made Verizon reactivate my fascinate until they get a replacement spectrum to me
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA
Well if I was you, I would test the replacement thoroughly and ensure it doesn't have the same problem. If it does then request a replacement with a different model entirely due to a design defect.

I agree with you there. I'm hoping it is a design defect. I want either a rezound or the gnex. Only reason i went with the spectrum is because it was the only way my line could get a upgrade. My dads line got a promotion deal with a upgrade to 4g. With the bogo deal they let me upgrade too.
How can they expect me too keep signal problems. Bad signal+4g phone = horrible battery life. Even a custom kernel running at 810mhz conservative dies from full on me between the 6th or 7th hour of use. My fascinate yesterday got me to 50% in 6 hours at 1.2 on the latest ths cm9
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA
I went from Eris > Fascinate > Spectrum
The LG has a nice screen, but still not quite Super AMOLED nice. More like iPhone nice. I picked up the Fascinate used for $69 and I think I got a great deal.
I'm sort of of the opinion that until official ICS is released I shouldn't really think about it much. Not much point in spending a lot of time with GB when ICS is a little bit away.
It's got good specs but I think the software is where it loses.
Would I trade it for an SGS3 absolutely, but do I think it was a good deal (99$ with a 40$ bill credit) absolutely as well.
One thing that this phone blows the Fascinate away with is GPS lock times. I gave up on trying to use GPS on the Fascinate, normally opting to use my wife's Stratosphere, but have no problems with this one.
Though the thriving development scene might work a little better if they make a Spectrum forum here.

I've got ICS at the moment on it, the phone however is no longer activated.
It's running aokp_fascinatemtd_build-37-Glitched-2012-05-24-18_51
All three members of our household have a Fascinate, and we all love them. Plus, once I figure out the custom ROM situation for mine, I can flash both my parents' fascinates.

Well the spectrum community on androidforums have donated about 5 to devs. Weblexa that does the miui rom should be receiving his soon. So its looking good. Try brokenout rom on your spectrum. I've got my replacement in and it works perfect. I can't overclock the new one as high. But I keep it at 1.2 conservative and it blows the fascinate out of the water. and I average about 11 hour battery life with spotty 4g coverage

Which is the best kernel for u? and why?

so there is 3 man kernels for our nexus s in JB:
-Trinity (der kernel)
-Marmite
-Matr1x
which is the best for u?
im looking to see wich is the fastest but at the same time stable and battery friendly.
You forgot the Air Kernel.
I know but i never liked it...

marmite is my favorite. I love the mtp, it's got the patch to force a/c charging, it's got under/overclock support, and it's a nice quick boot on 4.1.2.
Sorry, mathkid....for some reason matrix on 4.1.x ns4g isn't working to over/underclock, so I can't use it

Isn't there like 3 other threads discussing the same thing right now?
Marmite for me. It works, it doesn't have all those fancy features that require buying an app just to use it. Marmite just flat gets it done.
_thalamus' kernel; perhaps it has higher battery drain than marmite or others, but no one is as fast and smooth as that one. I prefer performance and stability rather than best battery life; after all, I always charge the phone at the end of the day to have it full for next day, so....

My phone always liked trinity. From gb / ics / jb. Matrix would be a close second for me. Marmite was awesome for me around 4.5 build but since then I get a fast dying phone for some reason.
Honestly once the trinity teuv gets voodoo sound it'll be perfect for me. I haven't had a reboot running it in over a month on rasbean jelly

When i was using ICS, it was always with AIR.
Now that i run JB, i began with AIR, and i'm now running Marmite.
I don't really care about battery, but i fond marmite as more stable imo.

Haven't seen a whole lot of Matr1x users here! V. 23.5 has been great. Check out my screen shots! He hasn't been very active updating it but I'm sure he will if there is more active users on his thread.

I fear matrix is next up for the development stopping . I know many of us have used and supported matrix since the gingerbread days . It has always been a great kernel and remains a staple for my phone. I believe development for this kernel would continue and surpass all our expectations with continued support from us the community. Sure would hate to lose the matrix kernel also. Just my 2 cents .

You don't need so called constant development of a kernel. All that is for the most part is feature wanking and buzzword dropping.
People are hooked on this weekly update bs from cherry picking people. That just update their crap just for the sake of updating.
When you release a good stable working kernel you don't need or get a thread full of posts and discussion about crashes or what pointless buzzword will be added next.
I prefer matrix for touchwake. I found that in large part, there wasn't much difference for me between marmite and matrix in performance, stability, and battery life. Both were phenomenal. with regard to the "lack of active users" comment, I think the lack of thread activity is due to the kernel being bug free. maths threads have always been quiet for this very reason.
