Fascinate vs LG spectrum - Fascinate General

About a month ago I got a early upgrade to a 4g phone. Me and my dad ended up with 2 LG spectrums. Cuz they were on sale $199 buy one get one free. WORST CHOICE EVER. From the beginning it was nice. Dual core 1.5ghz 1gb ram. 4.5" screen. Spec wise its one of the best Verizon has. Actually using it. Its worse than the fascinate. Bloatware is crazy. LG apps slow it down. Development kinda sucks. Nobody can get a working cm7. All we have is debloated themed stock. Running at 1.8ghz is nice but battery takes a huge hit. For normal use. Its a decent phone. And maybe it will be when ics gets pushed to it. But as it is right now. Most of y'all that are used to constant updates and new things readily available. You probably wont be happy with it
I thought I would inform you guys of my experience since I'm sure alot of fascinate users are due for an upgrade soon.

Nexus or gs3 or go home. Lol sorry about your purchase remorse. Guess a big development following is more important than specs. That's why Samsung rocks

Haha. Nice. Worst part. On top of LG development sucking. Verizon sold me one that gets no 1x signal. 75% of the time i can't make a phone call. When it says ive got good signal. I made Verizon reactivate my fascinate until they get a replacement spectrum to me
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA

Well if I was you, I would test the replacement thoroughly and ensure it doesn't have the same problem. If it does then request a replacement with a different model entirely due to a design defect.
Here's to hoping that you have the same issue on the replacement

I agree with you there. I'm hoping it is a design defect. I want either a rezound or the gnex. Only reason i went with the spectrum is because it was the only way my line could get a upgrade. My dads line got a promotion deal with a upgrade to 4g. With the bogo deal they let me upgrade too.
How can they expect me too keep signal problems. Bad signal+4g phone = horrible battery life. Even a custom kernel running at 810mhz conservative dies from full on me between the 6th or 7th hour of use. My fascinate yesterday got me to 50% in 6 hours at 1.2 on the latest ths cm9

I went from Eris > Fascinate > Spectrum
The LG has a nice screen, but still not quite Super AMOLED nice. More like iPhone nice. I picked up the Fascinate used for $69 and I think I got a great deal.
I'm sort of of the opinion that until official ICS is released I shouldn't really think about it much. Not much point in spending a lot of time with GB when ICS is a little bit away.
It's got good specs but I think the software is where it loses.
Would I trade it for an SGS3 absolutely, but do I think it was a good deal (99$ with a 40$ bill credit) absolutely as well.
One thing that this phone blows the Fascinate away with is GPS lock times. I gave up on trying to use GPS on the Fascinate, normally opting to use my wife's Stratosphere, but have no problems with this one.
Though the thriving development scene might work a little better if they make a Spectrum forum here.

I've got ICS at the moment on it, the phone however is no longer activated.
It's running aokp_fascinatemtd_build-37-Glitched-2012-05-24-18_51

All three members of our household have a Fascinate, and we all love them. Plus, once I figure out the custom ROM situation for mine, I can flash both my parents' fascinates.

Well the spectrum community on androidforums have donated about 5 to devs. Weblexa that does the miui rom should be receiving his soon. So its looking good. Try brokenout rom on your spectrum. I've got my replacement in and it works perfect. I can't overclock the new one as high. But I keep it at 1.2 conservative and it blows the fascinate out of the water. and I average about 11 hour battery life with spotty 4g coverage

Best forum ever, so long dudes

I used my upgrade, i stayed cheap and got a tbolt. This forum has the best devs and info sharing of all that i have read. Thanks to all for what they do. I went with the tbolt because i prefer htc phones, its got alot of good roms goin, 4g (which btw, bestbuy left my alltel unlimited plan alone), and i really love the big screen. Wife also didnt cut my sack off since i spent only $50+ tax. Ill still be around, the dinc is my 5yr olds new gamer/music/video/camera toy. I tell you, ive pulled 25meg dl speeds pretty consistently, compared it to my stepsons galaxy 2s epic 4g, and promptly showed him why sprint sucks. Big flashy phone aint to great gettin 2.5 meg dl speed with my bolt is smokin along. Thanks to everyone who helped, cared, devs, and shares. Dinc best phone i ever owned, this is just a bigget faster version of it. Peace.

I've been itching for a new phone, but with the extended battery on this and all the great ROM's, it outlasts almost any newer phone in battery life, and I still love my phone too much to get a new one.
I'm just waiting for a solid good phone to be released.. hasn't happened yet. Supposedly 2nd generation 4G LTE chips with better battery life are to be released soon. I need a phone that will easily last through 1 day, most of these new ones can't (including TB :/ )

I might start looking at WM phones also because of the programs that run on both phone and computer...... but if an Android is flashing a nice spec sheet, it will win out.

What is going to be your next phone?

I have had my Epic since launch and I'm running the Clean GB rom and it's great. I really like the phone and have no problems with it. But, I know this phon will not last forever. I have to have a slide out keyboard because I have big fingers and typing on touch screen doesn't work very well. Plus I run my business for my phone so I have to type alot.
I just went to sprints site and I see they didn't kill the epic like was reported before. But, I don't see any new flagship sliders. Anyone know of any new flagship sliders on the way in the next 6 to 8 months? I'm open to all brands or os. Thanks
I'd like to know if anyone has information as well. I don't plan on buying any other phone for awhile, unless a new high-end sprint slider comes out. Which won't probably happen soon, since they're keeping the epic on the line cause they have nothing new coming, where with the EVO they had like 2 news ones already lol.

I like the Samsung Note, looks cool. Even if it is the size of a small country.
I want LTE, that's really the only requirement I have for a new phone. Bigger screen would be nicer, and I'd like a platform that's easily rooted. When I bought my Epic and Moment, I didn't really pay attention to that but now I think it'll be what I look at first. No point in having an uber cool phone if I'm stuck stock.
But I lubs my epic....I won't be leaving it soon.
Im am also hoping for a Sprint version of the Note, or anything with a similar sized display. I know some dont like the screen size, but I would love it! I would probably be willing to go up to 6 inches for an Android phone and happily still fit it in my pocket.
iPhone 5.

honestly the lte galaxy has peeked my interest, I had figured I'd wait for SG3 but once I saw that announcement I was like ... hmmmmmm my one real dislike on my phone is the speed of the internet (or lack there of) so the LTE is a huge pull for me.
I really like having the keyboard but with the larger screen the virtual kb should be much easier to use and I already use swype more than the hardware keyboard anyway.

What announcement are you referring to? Is the SGS3 going to be a non LTE phone?
I have an upgrade in July(Got the epic the week it came out). I'm looking at the Nexus, but I feel like I should hold off for a little.
I don't know yet, I have grown to not depend on the KB as much as I use to, so maybe the Nexus.
Thinking about going for the Nexus as my next phone.. but then again I may just wait a bit to see what great LTE phones come out.
I'm also interested in the nexus because it is so open. Specs aren't that hot but unless your a gamer the gpu isn't a huge deal. Should get full cm9 and miui support pretty fast as opposed to waiting many months.
Sgs3 will likely be next gen hardware, but waiting for updates, and the seeming lack of organization and inability to fix issues (key skip, gps anyone?) Makes non nexus hardware a tough sell.
If a top tier phone focused on battery life (ala razor maxx) launched on sprint, that would also be very tempting. But would have to have an unencrypted boot loader.
Sent from my SPH-D700 running CM7
Given how Samsung has treated the Galaxy S line with updates, I'm not so forgiving. I think I am going with the galaxy nexus when it comes out. That way I can get instant updates.
Thinking about getting the galaxy nexus when it comes to sprint. However I am perfectly happy with my epic on virgin mobile for the time being.
Next phone - Something loved by CM devs and/or obligatory Nexus device.
.... But with CM9 coming to the Epic I'm thinking I might be okay to just run with this phone until it dies.

Anybody else feel like the OG Epic was under-appreciated?

It just occurs to me on such a regular basis, that when I pick my phone up, it's a perfect example of engineered quality. I wouldn't change anything about this phone. It's seriously perfect.
My only problem now is that I just get bored with things and probably am getting thirsty for a new, sleeker model. But seriously, does anybody feel like the SPH-D700 didn't get the glory it deserved?

I find the hardware to be quite good (although by the standards of today, I wouldn't mind a faster processor), but I find the software to be buggy and incomplete at best (EVEN EL30), which is sad considering how many chances that they had to make this a good device. Stuff like the GPS and other assorted issues makes me really shake my head in disappointment with Samsung.
Ive been saying that since I bought it.
Everywhere I go people still compliment and ask what phone is that. I don't know how much longer I will have this phone but I'm also not countig the days down unlike when I had my POS moment.
Just the fact that this phone was released q3 of 2010 and is not EOL yet despite the Epic touch release says a lot.

Considering it was supposed to be a Bada device, I think the devs had to get to the Android party late. I'd expect that translating the software to the hardware was the original issue but it seems to be more under control and may have lead to extended life for the device.
It was much faster than the evo. I loved my Epic. Perhaps the lack of froyo and gb is what made the Epic so much fun. Literally the only thing I would've changed is the responsiveness of the captivate buttons.

The death of a vibrant...

Hey everyone,
yesterday was a tragic day for me as my beloved Vibrant has fallen off my pockets because of my insecurities of not securing it safely after hanging up on a friend. I was washing my car, my friend decides to call me to and asks me if I can go with him to give him some advice for a new android phone since he's going to be joining in the android family. Unfortunately, after hanging up, I get a broken LCD touch screen phone and he gets a new one. So, without further a doo doo. here it is.

So, any suggestions for phones on a T-Mobile Network?

I would definitely wait until the SGS3 comes out as well... or when it is officially announced at the very least.
you'll find other phones to drop in price by then. personally i wouldn't settle for a "new" phone right now bc they're all generally on the tail end of what the trends have shown
at the very best, you'll end up with a phone that may not be completely LTE capable, a screen's resolution only able to boast up to 960x540, and a battery still in the 1600-1700 mAh range.. seeing that phones in the next few months will all have at least 720p screens, LTE, and better battery life.. i would wait it out
thanks for the input guys. I wanted to wait out for the GSIII to be honest and keep my vibrant till then. Right now I'm using the myTouch 3G/Sapphire I believe... garbage..
I'll wait and see for the GSIII.
I'm the same boat as you bro. I'm using a iphone 3gs while waiting dor the sgs3

If you wanna upgrade on the cheap, I suggest an LG G2X. Dual core, FFC, great support from xda, and its about $225-250 on eBay, and a little bit less on craigslist. This definitely is a great phone with a custom ROM.

wouldn't really call that a reasonable upgrade from the vibrant at that price..
dont mean to bash but having a dual core processor and a FFC for $100+ more over simply replacing a vibrant seems a bit much when a couple months of waiting will provide much greater features for the long haul

Well they were asking about phones like the SGS2 and Amaze, which definitely aren't worth it now. And he's looking for an upgrade, and that would be the most reasonable one, considering the phones ahead. But I can definitely see your point.

I went from a vibrant to a sgs2. I don't regret it at all. Sure the sgs3 will be better but honestly it won't be much longer after it comes out, that everyone will be talking about the next big thing. There are some really good devs over there. As some of you know Eugene373 just got a vibrant, plus we have a guy named thederekjay who is making unbelievably good roms and kernels. This phone will be around for a while.

Sorry to hear about your Vibrant. :/ If I were you, I'd wait it out before spending a good amount of money on one of the phones that are currently out. I'd go for the Samsung Galaxy Note (if it came to T-Mobile). SGS3 would definitely be worth the wait, though.

The note would be very cool if it ends up at T-Mobile otherwise I'd wait for the sgs3. As Much as I wanted a new phone bricked, roman and the other great devs have breathed great new life into my almost 2 year old phone with ics. I've never held onto a phone this long there just in my opinion nothing worth early upgrading to. Good luck

I'm actually leaving. As of 3/6/12 my internal SD card is corrupted on my Vibrant. Might disassemble and part out because the screen is perfect. Bought a SGS2 that got "Lost" in the mail..... that is a $350 hit as of now. It is SO ridiculous, the post office said they delivered it so they are washing their hands of the situation. I have spent hours between EBAY PAYPAL and USPS and it does not look good for me . Funny thing is just try to get ahold of EBAY customer service. I only got through after calling PAYPAL directly and then they transferred me to someone at EBAY. Have just bought a spanking new Galaxy Nexus with signature verification through FedEx so we will see about the funny business that may come with this most recent purchase.

Just picked up the Evo LTE

I've been sitting on an upgrade since November just waiting for this phone. My wait was worth it. This phone is awesome. Fast, light, awesome camera, and has a really good finish to it. I got it out the door for $50 from best buy with the preorder and EVO trade in discount. Bought a otter box defender case too. The case is pretty badass
I am jealous and think I kinda hate you. have fun with your new toy,
What town you in, is there 4g LTE coverage there?
i was thinking, does Sprint have LTE anywhere? this reminds me of the Wimax revolution again.

So far its pretty cool. Dont be jealous. It really sucked waiting almost 6 months to use my upgrade. Its the first time Ive waited over a week after becoming eligible.
Have you had it long enough to judge battery life? My upgrade is due June 1st but I really still enjoy the EVO even after two years. I am thinking of waiting.

LG Eclipse 4g LTE
I've had my heart set on the HTC Evo 4g LTE since i heard about it, but now that I've seen specs on the LG Eclipse 4g LTE, i'm conflicted...
quad core s4 1500mhz, with 2 gb internal ram, and 16gb storage, and a REMOVABLE battery... what... I don't know about LG's quality tho, i've never owned a LG, and when i've seen them, they always seemed like "cheap" quality...

One of my reasons for (likely) hopping onto the Evo LTE wagon is the developer support I'm sure the device is going to get. HTC devices usually get a lot of love from developers, and the EVO incarnations (4G, 3D) have been among the best supported devices in terms of developers. Would it be nice having a quad core phone? Yeah. Doesn't make up for the fact that the development section will likely be a ghost town (for me at least).

It's 5pm right now I took the phone off the charger at 8am. I've done some browsing, market use, a couple phone calls and about 10 songs. I have Bluetooth and all sync items turned on (weather, email, etc.) And the battery is currently at 69%. It did sit idle for 2 hours while we went to the pool. So far I think the battery is running like a champ.
could you post some pics?? also with the phone inside the case, i was wondering how large the phone would look inside the otter case..
I'm picking mine up tonight. Gonna miss it around here. It's been great here the last 2yrs.
Thanks to all

Hopefully you did the Best Buy preorder deal. $50 for this phone is a steal. For the price I would have to say this is the best electronic devices that Ive bought as far bang for the buck.
Got it last night. Lovin it. It's almost too big. Funny how quickly my Evo could feel small. And we've already got 2 recoveries , things are looking good
sent from my Evo LTE, usually.

If you always wait for the next best thing you'll never be happy, because as soon as you buy one phone something better will come along soon after. Stick to the LTE.
