Help - Galaxy S I9000 General

hi guys i sold my old galaxy s on Ebay, I factory reset it before sending tested it and it worked fine.
I never rooted or flashed this device, only one official Samsung update.
The guy has returned it saying the phone is laggy, slow to unlock, and slow running apps.
now I'm dubious that he may have done something to the device software/network unlock wise that went wrong and is just palming me off now he's damaged it.
Is there anything I can check such as software logs to see what the device has done in the last week?

Droid X shutdown/reboot

I've been working on my coworker's 5th droid x and cannot figure out why it is randomly rebooting/shutting down. I've seen several threads on various forums around the 'net regarding this same issue, but nobody seems to have any solutions.
If anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening I'd appreciate the help.
This happens on both rooted and unrooted phones. I just watched her brand new replacement phone running stock everything reboot on me.
Try running a custom ROM. I've heard of this type of behavior (even though I haven't experienced it). If that doesn't work, or s/he doesn't like it, just run the leaked .588 OS until the official update comes out.
I had that with my first X. Mine wasn't software related and I tried everything. They sent me a new one under warranty.
Best bet is to try a factory reset. If that doesn't help, call vzw and they will replace it. I don't think rooting and custom roms are a good solution as not everyone wants to go this route. Factory reseting sucks imo, but that will be the first thing that vzw tech support will tell you to do. This way it's done and they'll send you a replacement.

I am running gb .588. I was having problems with mine rebooting anytime I plugged into any power source. Found out an update to Bump was the culprit. Uninstalled and all is working well.

Sending back rooted phones

In my time lurking, I've seen multiple people say they sent back rooted phones to T-Mo and it went unnoticed. This made me wonder if they actually checked or not so I just wanted to know your opinions. I'm starting to think that you could probably get away with it if you just flashed a stock Gingerbread rom. I'm starting to find it quite amusing.
hope
I hope not, that way I will be screwed if something happens to the phone, i dont think I even have warranty to begin with.
If Tmobile are clever they most likely to do check it
I had a friend who bricked their G2 using some sort of visionary root and they were able to get a new one via warranty.
I have sent back several rooted phones to various different companies under warranty and got new replacement phones without any hassle every time... touch wood hope that continues...
unroot if you have the time.

I've send mine back a while ago because the screen became black and wouldn't come up again. Was running Virtuous Unity at that moment but still they repaired the problem and didn't touch my custom ROM.
Maybe if it is a software problem the repair company investigates further what happened to it?

Possibly, but I figured they would at least check. It's like all bark and no bite really.

headache situation about replacement!

okay, i received a n7 with a transfomer rom preinstalled on it 3 weeks ago, i called up customer service after a day trying and they said "do everything to make it work" and they will send me a email with instruction returning it.
headache: i managed to put a stock rom back on it, activated and everything, but i find out it's not as smooth as other devices (well, playing games for the first week is fine, than keep getting lagg after time), but luckily, i took a picture when i first start up the device (with transformer wallpaper, system info..)
currently the n7 is on stock rom with bootloader unlock and rooted, so if i return with this stock rom, are they will pass the examine of faulty and not "charge" me for another device? or i just go to the transformer section and flash their stock rom )
thanks for any advice
i dont think anyone have this case before -.-
That's weird.... was this straight from Google or did you buy elsewhere?

There have been several instances where people have gotten ics (not TF, all asus products have the tree background) test roms on their devices, and experienced the same lag you are experiencing. It appears they got early pre-production devices, where the software (and perhaps hardware) has not been finalized yet, which may be what is causing the lag. I believe they will take it back if you change your complaint to "extreme lag", and explain what happened to it.
Good luck

Nexus 7 LTE service center problems

I bought Nexus 7 LTE 32GB last year from croatian webshop.
Tablet was working fine until december 2013.It was slowing down and rebooting.
Then i decided to RMA it.
I found official ASUS service wich was MRService(until 1.1.2014).
I got my device back from service after new year.
Again tablet was working fine running 4.4.2 KitKat until 10.2.2014
Again slowing down and rebooting.
Here are some of things happening:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udXHso0b9hA
So again i packed up device and went to MRService and got this paper that says MR Service isnt more official for some ASUS devices including my Nexus 7 LTE 32GB
http://i.imgur.com/cps1Ofk.jpg
So i found other one wich is only offical one at the moment in Croatia.
Called them, explained my problems and they sent Overseas express to my address to pickup device.
Before anything i written on their service site and i described whats happening and one of their techs said i need to do recovery. And of course i didnt do that.Thats stuff they should do.
After a week or two service was finished also they claimed they changed mainboard(MBO).
Got my device 3.3.2014 at 15:45 waiting for me infront of my door and i was happy that problems where solved.
I opened box and powered up device.
Google logo showed up but then wierd "android" boot logo came and i was "what the hell is this".
Device booted into OS and i was scared.
Whole OS from top to bottom was some sort of chinese skin running 4.2.2
Even S/N in settings says just :111111111111
This thing doesnt look anything like Nexus device.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzZUq3KRDVc
I immediately called them back.
They said "Oh well our techs didnt do OS upgrade."WAAAT?
I dont know what to do now.
If i return mybe they will say my warranty is voided or not?
Do you have access to a computer? If so all you have to do is flash stock LTE image from Google.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#razorg
That's for stock image. Here is steps how to do it
Google: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#instructions
YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VUlDEGhkZ4&feature=youtube_gdata_player
And I'm pretty sure this should be in Q&A section.

I know how to do that. But there is no access to fastboot to flash any stock image.I tried to enter bootloader but I can't get to it. Got response from ASUS. They said to send back to fix problem.

New Software Update

Just got a software update. I wonder what has changed or improved.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Not sure. But bootloader is still locked with this, and experts are recommending to hold off on install if you plan on trying to root the device (in case a root exploit is found for the original software version). Remember, once you flash a new software, you cannot go back.
Seems to fix static over bluetooth, at least for me. Persisting with cabled headphones, though.
I noticed that it re-enables the things you have disabled with Package Disabler Pro.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
How do you disable automatic updates ?

I just did the update, TOOK FOREVER IT SEEMED....but I am very impatient. Afterwards, it seems that things are smoother and faster, but it could just be the placebo effect. I will be watching battery life today and see if it improves.

Lucky for my, I don't root or anything like that. I'm kind of ocd I like things to be the way they are supposed to be. I tried it once and hated it.

Although I do believe that Samsung should unlock the bootloader and let people make their own choice about their phone. They just need to make it very clear that if you modify your phone your warranty is voided and your on your own. Sad part is some people will go out there and start playing with stuff and not know what they are doing and then want to blame Samsung when the phone gets messed up.

I think they've made it abundantly clear that flashing unsigned firmware voids the warranty. And Samsung can then refurb the phone and resell it. The Knox flag effectively protects Samsung from any liability regarding this sort of thing. Making it impossible to "downgrade" to previous software versions, a practice Samsung started a few years ago, was a bad omen. The dawn of the Knox flag added to this downward spiral. Locking the bootloader is a level of control unprecedented for carriers like T Mobile and Sprint, and continues the evolution of Samsung's security deathgrip.
Popped up when I unlocked my phone this morning. It's installing now will play around with it .

I "chatted" with T Mobile support around 8:30 am today, they had no idea this update was live. Apparently their databases have not updated.
Probably a good idea to hold off on this for now. What if they find an exploit that lets us root but only for the previous version? This is becoming a lot like iPhone jailbreaking... that's why I switched to this S7 Edge lol. I should have read more about it first.

Samsung devices on T Mobile have always had unlocked bootloaders (as long as I can remember anyhow), this was a huge surprise for everybody.
It's also not the March security update as its still flagged as Feb 1
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Just rebooted after installing the update. Got a pop-up saying:
"The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center"
I haven't modified anything. I haven't even disabled packages. There is obviously no root so I haven't done that either. Weird. Will try a factory restore.
Edit: This was happening after I attempted to check for updates after this mornings update installed. Checked for update again after a 2nd restart and message no longer comes up.

Yeah it does seem that way. It really sucks, rooting the phone was one of the big reasons I wanted to switch over. I hope someone is able to find an exploit that allows root. I had android a long time ago and ran Cyanogen mod, that thing was cool. It took the super slow stock LG G1 or whatever it was and made it really fast. I would pay for that on this phone, it has so much potential.

The only issue I have with modding phones is that sometimes when buying used phones the seller doesn't tend to inform the buyer if something is wrong. I bought a phone a few years ago on At&t and realized later that it had Internet but could not make calls out. Apparently the last owner flashed something and messed it up. I ended up selling it for cheap, luckily it worked out for the buyer because the phone would not make calls on At&t but would on T-Mobile and he had T-Mobile.
There should be a bootloader unlocking tool that will let you forfeit all your claiming rights but also put you on a list by you imei number that can tell potential buyer your phone has been modified. While you may wont to modify it I wouldn't wont any of your problems. Worst of all is when you hear there is an update for your phone but you cant get it because your phone was modded with out your knowledge when purchasing.

I actually don't think its a placebo effect. Could be wrong. On restart, it was much quicker to get to a usable state. The micro stutters I was having seem to be gone. Things are opening quicker as well.
A welcomed update, I have installed on my phone and will see if it improves my battery life which has not been too good.
