[SOLVED]driver fail??? - Kindle Fire General

the first time i plugged in my kf i got this (see pic). plus when i tried to upload the pic, it said "please insert disk into F:" which so happens to be the port of my kindle, so then i unplugged it and it was all good. this is really weird.

furthermore i would recommend you to read this first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547

ok, but how do i resolve the disk issue im having. when i tried to upload that screenshot, i got an error saying please insert disk into drive F. when i unplugged the kindle, the upload worked. what is happening???

i don't know the configuration of your computer but it seems that there is something wrong with the drive mappings - check in manage - hard disk manager or such - mine is in a other language - try to put the kindle drive to a other letter

ok. i will also try another usb port. will report back later. thx!!!!

tried a diff usb port, now works.

but its not showing up in adb!!

is your kf normally started ?
if yes then you have the wrong driver - it should be android composite adb interface
which drivers are you using ?
please read the links i give you !

Yes!!! It finaly works!!! Im rooted!!

glad to help ...

One of the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned

Every time i connect my wizard to my machine using the USB cable, i get the following message in baloon.
"One of the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it."
It appears as "Unknonw Device" on windows device manager.
This started happening when i changed my ROM to AMP.v2.Vanilla. Prior to that my wizard was connecting fine. I have been trying to resolve this for days now but no luck.
Following are the things i have tried.
1. Un-installed Activesync & re-installed.
2. Soft & Hard Reset the device.
3. Tried going in bootloader so that i can install my preivous rom, but the machine still doesnt recognize the device and gives the same message as mentioned above.
4. Removed all the USB controllers and re-installed in the machine.
5. Tried on different machines but same results, so its not machine specific.
6. Tried with a new cable to so its not the cable, it has to be the device.
Anyone who can help with this. I am sure i am not the only one having this trouble.
Any kind of help is appreciated. Just need to connect and go back to my preivous rom.
Thanks in advance.
Nick.
Please don't cross post. Pick a flavour and run with it.

My apologies mate. Its just that i am little desperate now to make this thing work.

Stuck in bootloader mode - USB device has malfunctioned

Sorry if I'm missing something really obvious but I've looked through the forums and the wiki for possible solutions to this.
I tried to upgrade the ROM to tomal - V8.0 (6.1 Pro). After syncing and going through the initial screens, Windows came up with a message that the attached USB device had malfunctioned on going into the bootloader. I've tried using the mtty utility in a few different computers but each time there is no USB option listed in the port. As it is, I'm stuck in the bootloader screen (showing "Serial" rather than "USB", v1.00) and softresetting just brings me back to the same bootloader screen again.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Hello bro,
Faced this problem few times...and got it to work .
What i did was removed SIM Card / MMC Card and disable Usb connection in active Sync and try not to use any HUB for usb and try all the Usb ports available on your computer. keep trying thats all i can say and i did.
Hope it works out for you good luck .
~ZODI.
Thanks for the reply. There's no SIM card or SD card inserted and I've tried all the USB ports on three different computers - one running XP, one running Vista Home and one running Vista x64. I've also tried running lsusb on a linux boot and nothing comes up on that (though in all honesty I don't know what it should be detected as).
progress?
Hi Steven,
any progress, I am having the same problem on my (new) universal. serial doens't change to usb whatever I do (tried mtty and everything)
Oh one other thing, When I retract my usb-cable halfway form my phone "usb" DOES appear, you think we could do sth with that?
Thanks and thanks to all on these great forums at xda!
Curehead
nope, sorry. i've never got any further forward.

HLEP..my xda exec doesn't load

Hello.
ok so i plugged to sync it and my computer shows the programs installed and if i want to edit them. so all of the sudden by mistake it started to delete some programs so i just quickly pull the usb wire out and reset it...now a blank white screen that wont go further.
so i downloaded tomal latest one and tried to re do it and now its not going anywhere. i reset, hard reset and tried it all...went to the wiki and even the mtty thing doesn't show usb under ports.
when i now boot it up, it shows the white screen then a black screen with some lines in the middle and at the bottom right corner it shows the specs as follows:
R 1.00.00
G 42.45.P8
O D.08.81 TML
try everything but nothing is happening.
can someone help!
just adding from what is to other posts..looks like its not only me with this problem..i think the rom's are messed up and now the processor is screwed or something
1. Which operating system do you have (Xp or Vista)?
i am using XP pm my PC..but ideally i have vista on my laptop. i just use the xp on my pc for updating rom cuz vista sucks for this
2. Have you disabled "allow usb connections" in Activesync?
yes i have disabled it and tried
3. Did you try to remove your SD and SIM card?
yes i removed both of them
4. if you can't enter bootloader, is your PDA Recognized by your PC over Activesync or without activesync?
computer doesnt recognize that anything is connected. if i reset it alot of times and stuff sometimes a ballon will come up saying the usb device isnt recognized
Have you tried Doc format or MTTY?
In the Wiki it´s explained both process
Hope it helps,

Kindle utility help

Ok so here is some back story i messed up my rooting manual and got it stuck and the kindle logo, so on i whim i installed this and pressed option one boot mode and normal boot and that got me out of it and my kindle would connect fine but ever since i 'installed' the drivers my computer with (kindle utility) no longer recognizes or assigns a drive letter for the kindle fire.
kindle fire utility says 'oops... unable to locate device' no matter what option i choose.
i have tried the search button but i am unable to locate a solution or even anybody else with similar problems. i will admit i may be blind so i may have read it and simply forgot but if anybody can help me to figure out WHY there is a communication error going on now i would greatly appreciate it.

It wont recognize it in device manager and this is what i see in hardware area There is no option to update drivers
sorry i can't see anything on your thumbnail - it's too small
anyway - the first link is to a site with alternate drivers - i would download them and try to install - goto device manager - look for kindle or android phone-adb device or unknown - right mouse click - update drivers - search by yourself - select the ones you downloaded (and hopefully unzipped to a location) - it's the location with adb_usb.ini
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! you made my day i updated that and it worked THANK YOu
glad that i could help you ...

nexsu6p can't regnize adb how can I do?

my phone os is android8.1.0, it can be used adb before, but I fogot what I do with it. Now the phone can be used normal, calling and connect Internet is OK.
But when I connected usb cable it was no response, please someone can help me?
Is the driver installed on the PC? I used disk management normally to find new drives>scan for new devices.
Cable may be bad.
This might help, read down a bit on the initial post. It talks about adb and how to connect to the device.

the driver has installed before, and other phone was work well but nexsus 6p is not working
Can you see the drive in Disk Management?
Look at Event Viewer for error messages after trying to connect. Try a different port and cable.
Try rolling back the driver and/or search for one in hardware management.
Try on another PC.
Could be a failed C port on the phone, inspect contacts and carefully clean if needed with a soft toothbrush. A blower bulb is helpful too.
Check usb configuration in Developer options on the Android.
