HELP!
I'm a new to PPC. I've got an O2 mini, I charged the device well just now, but now when I connect the device to my computer, always says that the USB device is not operating well and windows can't recognize the device. Is there anyone could let show me what's wrong? what should I do? Thanks!!!!!
Hello,
Are you sure you have installed Active sync in your Desktop?
Regards
Carty..
Is your USB cable plugged into a front USB port on your computer??
If so, try plugging it into the back. Some front USB ports do not have enough power to recognize the MDA Compact, and you get that same "USB not recognized" error. Most back USB ports are powerful enough.
uninstall activesync ... reboot system install again ! should work
the comupter may of just seen the modem side of it it happened to me you need to go into your hardware file on your pc and delete any modems you don't recogonize (carefull you don't delete the wrong one (i exepct no responsibility if you do)) and then re install active sync v 4.1 fom microsoft site. then plug it in again good luck
Thanks all you guys. I have got this problem resolved. There is sth wrong with my cable and I have bought a new one. Noe everything is going well.
Hi,
Previously I was running Black 3.0 and was synching with Vista and had no problems.
I recently updated the ROM to Black Satin and now I cannot sync.
When I connect the device to my computer it initially recognises it and gives an option to create a partnership but then it disappears and it says that no device is connected.
Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong or of ways of fixing it?
Thanks.
Also..
I have followed the guide here http://www.mrvanx.org/hermes_guide/vista/index.html for vista and I get an error installing the drivers (error attached).
I have also turned off advanced usb networking..

First, be sure you're running the latest WMDC 6.1. Then reboot both the computer and the device. If that doesn't fix it, click on Start -> Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC and check or uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality".
Then... report back.
yup I have done all that
Rebooted about 20 times (pc+device) even tried reflashing different roms but still no go!
Have unchecked advanced networking..
Make sure you have the right driver from VistaRUU.zip floating around. I did these exact steps last night and am also running Black Satin. I don't have a problem. Be sure to re-check the box that says allow USB connections.
Good luck. Try going over all the steps in case you might have missed something.
Spathi, in your case, you may just need to re-download the Hermes USB drivers.
P.S. I did also update my SPL to HardSPL2.0
I have tried installing the drivers numerous times.
I have tried the drivers from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=33892&d=1170385335 and here
http://mahmood1.com/Documents/64bit.rar
I am on 64bit Vista and have downloaded the 64bit drivers and turned off driver signing..
My phone has SPL 2.10lipro which I believe is the latest?

i had the same problem a little while ago. search my user name for posts and you'll find the thread. but the solution was... uninstall wmdc reboot, and download and reinstall. works like a charm.
I HAD the same problem.
OK.. I had the same problems, troubleshooting with MS for $35.00 didn't solve it. The one thing that did solve it is kind of ridiculous and easy.. So here's the solution..
It turns out Vista has issues with detecting USB drivers on certain types of chipsets. It looks like the USB ports are correctly installed, but it just doesn't like the devices (like Smartphones) connected to it.
I solved the problem by buying a USB card with a VIA chipset. It's amazing how well it works now. Of course, I discover this AFTER a reinstall of Vista and everything else.. Duh! Ugh!
Hope this helps other people feel less pain.
-Percy
I have tried the uninstall/reinstall thing before (just tried it again) no luck there.
I just tried another usb card and that didnt work either.
Only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling windows...
mine is more weird
upgraded from wmdc 6.0 to 6.1.6965 now when it bootloader, wmdc doesn't even connect at all. even return to wmdc 6.0 doesn't solve the problem
There are a couple of things with Vista..
I figured out these few little nuggets during my travels..
1. Make sure you have all the newest updates. (MS apparently knows of this problem as they have released a patch to resolve some USB issues)
2. The external USB Card you try has to have the VIA USB Drivers.
3. Update your bios to something newer (also a big problem)
4. Turn on Legacy Support for USB (important too)
5. Disable your ACPI if you're having troubles.
6. Have you tried connecting the device directly to the MOBO USB Ports?
I can't stress this enough.. the VIA USB Chipset seems to work so if you try an external card, make sure it has a VIA chipset on it. They're completely different than the standard Vista USB Drivers.
For those that are having problems - check on your desktop system in the device manager to see if you have the "Microsoft Remote Mobile Adapter" installed as a network card. If you do, uninstall it. This driver gets in the way of the WMDC 6.1 connection with USB.
It apparently gets loaded if you attach your device while having "advanced networking" enabled in the PC->USB setup on the device. Once you've done that, you're stuck. Turning off the "advanced networking" on the device won't help, because that remote driver is already loaded. You need to disconnect your device, unstall that driver, be sure "advanced networking" is turned off, and then connect your device again. I've had this happen a couple of times to me after re-flashing the ROMs.
Brian.
I've been searching a lot about this and just can't figure it out... I can sync my tytn (8525 as I call it) with windows media player, but can't do it with "windows mobile device center". Actually, everytime I click on wmdc, it opens up the "Change Connections SEttings" where it says "Device Connected" up top but then I click on ok and apparently nothing happens...
8525, sync w/ USB 5% of the time, no changes seem to change anything.
did the notification edit here on xda
uninstalled/reinstalled activesync
upgraded to 4.5
deleted partnership
uninstalled firewall
checkdisk
ran the resync program
installed office, .net 2.0, activesync 4.5 on entirely different computer
[edit: added for clarification]
tried unchecking the advanced connection box in start>settings>connections>usb to pc
[/edit]
when connecting to either computer, i get the "usb device seen" chime, but not the "i can do something with this device" jingle
get the "active sync cannot connect with this device" popup, run the diags and everything is okay. ms site politely informs me that the cause of my problem is that the device cannot connect to the pc.
anything i missed? i gave up on it 6mo ago when i got the phone bc i got bluetooth sync to work but now i want to flash to wm6
Thanks
start>settings>connections>usb to pc.
Untick the box. See if that helps?
Try this procedure step-by-step
1. make sure your phone is not connected to the computer in any way
a. Bluetooth off
b. WIFI off
c. USB cable not connected
2. Run spybot S&D (I always do this when the computer misbehaves - and make no mistake your computer is misbehaving)
3. Terminate all other running programs
4. Hook your phone to the usb cable and the usb cable to the computer. (don't worry if it syncs or not)
5. Open Device Manager and select Network Adapters
6. Uninstall the Windows Mobile Device
7. Disconnect the Phone
8. Open the Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs" and uninstall Active Sync
9. Reboot the computer
10. Connect to the internet and get a fresh copy of Activesync 4.5 and install it.
At this point if you can back up your PIM to the storage card or something it would be great because I suggest you do a hard reset of the phone. go to the settings page and select System. Tap the clear storage icon and follows the instructions to reet the phone.
11. Reset phone as above
12. When phone reboots, connect it to the computer via the usb cable.
Phone should sync from now on.
Good Luck
PS.
MrVanx is right, that could help but it will limit your phones capability. However if my method fails that may be your only option short of reflashing the phone with some other ROM.
I've tried MrVanx' solution also, just forgot it in the original post. It seems to sync more often when the box is ticked anyhow.
I don't have a problem with hard reseting or flashing. I'm going through this hassle for the sole reason of flashing to schaps 4.31
Ill try that when i get home tonight
Say I do a sprite backup before hard resetting the phone. After I do the hard reset, I restore the sprite backup. Will my lack of syncing problem come back? I assume it will.
After the hard reset and the initial sync on the "fresh WM5 install," I should proceed from there with the WM6 install, correct?
I have a TyTn II and experiencing a similar problem as sook..
I did all the steps except for these:
5. Open Device Manager and select Network Adapters
6. Uninstall the Windows Mobile Device
The thing is i cant find my mobile device anywhere in the device manager or in the network adapters subcategory. Any ideas?

Yes proceed. And no I don't think the failure to sync problem is related to the backups so that should be safe

Not sure how a TyTN II looks to the device manager. try this instead:
open the device manager and click on the USB devices subcat.
Then connect your phone to the computer via the usb cable. pay attention and uninstall the usb device that appears when you hook up.
Then rescan. Reboot both the computer and the phone and see if that helps

Before you try flashing make sure you have the Hard-SPL V7 bootloader installed.
You can flash without activesync tho.... activate the bootloader and connect your usb cable. If the tricolor screen indicates a usb connection then you can run the RUU wrapper, follow the usual steps and it should flash just fine.
You activate the bootloader by pressing and holding the "Power" and "OK" buttons and depressing the reset with your stylus (the OK button you use has to be the one next to the jog wheel)
I can't find my Hermes in device manager either. I'll try doing the flash through the bootloader i guess.
Did you try un-checking the "Enable Advanced Network Functionality" box as mentioned in Reply #1? That fixed it with mine. It would sync with my WinXP work PC, but not my WinXP Home pc, unchecking that box fixed it. Been fine ever since....

AT&T 8525 USN Syncing problem ...
I had the same problem too ... fortunately I had a simple fix.
I made sure that I only use the USB/mini-USB cable that came with my AT&T 8525. If I use a USB that came from a different device (like another phone or camera), it doesn't want to sync, except once in a blue moon.
The other USB cables may charge it, but won't sync it.
I've read elsewhere in this site that our 8525's can be picky with their pinouts on the USB, so this might be the issue. I hope it's something this simple for you!
Hope this helps!
it's a thought. ill dig through my drawer of cables and pull out all the usb/mini usb cables. no idea if I'm using the original or not.
however 6 mo ago when i gave up on the thing the first time i know it was the correct cable

sometimes cables go flakey, but the cable we use is standard not proprietary so any A - miniusb cable should work.
Anyway the procedure you outlined above should have worked, am I to understand you still have the ATT ROM? If so talk to them about this problem.
If not access the bootloader again and hook up your usb cable. Does USB appear at the bottom of the screen?
Are you using the usb adapter that came with the phone? If not try to go back to that. The pinouts are the same as a miniusb but the form factor makes for a better fit and regular miniusb jacks can cause nonsyncs.
If you aren't getting "USB" at the bottom of the screen it is either a bad cable, a bad usb port (either at the comp or your phone), bad usb drivers, or just bad hardware in the phone. If any of these is the problem, all you can do is talk to AT&T hopefully before the warranty expires.
Sorry I wasn't more help mate.
The cable I've been using is the one that came with the phone. I tried the cable that came with my mp3 player and got the same results.
I do still have the out-of-the-box ATT Rom, however, the steps you outlined did not fix my problem. I did notice that my device appears as "HTC USB Sync" which I found strange. Is this normal?
USB does appear when I connect the phone in bootloader to the computer. I've tried two USB ports on two separate computers. Both computers are completely up to date with MS and drivers.
I suppose I'll go bother the people at ATT.
If I'm done with the ATT Rom, can I do all the flashing through the USB connection to the bootloader?
hey guys im having the same problem (TyTN II) it'll charge, but wont sync or show in device manager (i am using the original cable though)
i've tried to go into bootloader, but it doesnt say 'usb' at the bottom like it should, instead it says 'serial' i've tried diff usb ports, i've also unticked the advanced network box, softreseted, and hardreseted still no go...any ideas?? (im using alex's wm6.1 rom, could wm6.1 possibly have something to do with it?)
ActiveSync BOOSTER
Is there a way to boost up speed of Sync

With removing the phone
Please Help
Hi, I seem to be having some trouble trying to update to the latest 6.5 ROM. It says I have a "Error 260: USB Connection".
I also get the same error trying to flash to HardSPL, it says I should make sure it is synced, when it is. I also tried installing the "enablerapinew.cab", and another computer/another cable cord. All the same problems.
I think it may be because in my USB to PC menu, the option to "Enable Advanced Network Functionality" is ticked and grayed out. So I can't untick it.
I tried changing the driver in the registry to the USB Serial driver, but that didn't even sync.
If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hard reset if nothing else works.
Then you will know whether it is a hardware failure or software related.
I've seen anything from bent pins, lose USB on circuit board, bad cables, Vista vs XP....etc and the list goes on of possible causes for this issue.
Well it still charges and the phone still reads the storage card because i was able to flash it from the card but the computer will not recognize it as a USB device therefore activesync will not work and i cannot access the storage card when its in the phone
Reinstall ActiveSync...maybe...

SD-Rom flashing
Hi ya all,
Try to flash it from your SD card, have a look here: http://www.tomlenferink.nl/component/content/article/1-latest-news/77-windows-mobile-65.html
Don't forget for Windows XP you need Active Sync and for Windows Vista and 7 you need Windows Mobile Device Center.
I already have my samsung usb and android modem drivers installed. but everytime i plug my phone in with usb debugging on, the "Found New Hardware" window keeps popping up, why?
im not sure, but it could be the problem to why it always says "waiting for device" on superoneclick
My day job is pc tech, I have seen this a few times but going to follow the steps, first give me some info
Which version of windows?
32 or 64 bit?
How proficient are you at driver maint. *add and removeal ov drivers*
When did this start?
windows xp - 32 bit - and im pretty proficient at maintenance. i think its always been like this.
Ok, Do you always use the same USB port? and have you tried a different cable? and have you tried it on other computers? if so did it do the same thing there?
First we got to get rid of the drivers on the pc.
http://download.cnet.com/DriverMax/3000-18513_4-10572602.html
This is a free program that has a few nice features but most important is that it can tell you the name of the files that are used as drivers. After you install and register (its free, they just want to know who you are.. name, email, that kind of stuff) there will be an entry on the right side called "Installed Drivers Report". Make sure you phone is connected before you click this as it scans active drivers. it will generate a report you can scroll through and find any samsung driver entrys. Write down those file names, we will need them in a moment.
Go to device manager and remove the device there. Windows XP was kinda lame about device removal it did not actually remove the device just broke the connection. Vista and 7 give you the option to actually delete the files which make this easier. Since your on XP after the devices have all been removed UNPLUG your phone from the PC then start a search for those files in the Windows directory. Delete (or move) those files and the rerun the driver install program from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
After that it may setup and find new hardware a few times. Mine did it 3 since there are multiple different methods it can connect with and each uses differnet hardware. Also each time you use a differnt USB port it sees it as new device in a new location so it also goes through new hardware setup again.
Report back and let me know if this helped any.
okay thanks for the quick response. i will try it when I have time and ill get back to you. first, imma try it on a different computer.
also, when its plugged in and i open device manager, theres 3 yellow exclamation marks, one on the android modem, device, and in the "OTHER devices" section, the USB controllers. if that means anything.
just turn off usb debugging... and it will stop. turn it back on if you need to use it for something.
