I was looking through Cyanogenmod forums and noticed dknotor posted a link to this APP, but he hasnt posted it on here yet.
Basically every app you install has permissions, some are things like access to device id, sms, mms, etc.
PDroid allows blocking access for any installed application to the following data separately, so you dont have to worry about any app having some strange permissions as you can just blok them:
Device ID (IMEI/MEID/ESN)
Subscriber ID (IMSI)
SIM serial (ICCID)
Phone and mailbox number
Incoming call number
Outgoing call number
GPS location
Network location
List of accounts (including your google e-mail address)
Account auth tokens
Contacts
Call logs
Calendar
SMS
MMS
Browser bookmarks and history
System logs
SIM info (operator, country)
Network info (operator, country)
For device ID, phone and mailbox number, SIM serial, subscriber ID and device location it also allows supplying custom or random values.

To be honest I agree with you. I also envy the iPhone crowd as they don't have the whole permissions think so most people aren't paranoid.
Whereas android 65% are paranoid 25% don't care and 10% actually understand the permissions.

Yep exactly, although Iphone is just not transparent about what they access lol
99% of the time there's a legitimate reason for each permission that an app has.
Don't get why people complain when a lot of people are rooted which in ways could be a worse security flaw than any permission an app has.

Has anyone been able to get Tasker or Juice Defender or SuperPower or anything similar able to control mobile data and GPS on Gingerbread? Anyone have any insight as to why these apps don't work on 2.3? I'm assuming Gingerbread handles mobile data and GPS differently than Froyo?

Because the developers for those apps haven't optimized them for Gingerbread yet. Once they update them you will be able to use them.
...and it seem there's a bug in Gingerbread permission (or they enforce them ?).
Even you put "android.permission.MODIFY_PHONE_STATE" in your manifest for your app you won't be granted this permission, then you can't enable/disable directly mobile data .
It's really annoying ! If you look at the android docs there's no info about this modification in the permission management !
Hope this will be fixed soon (or a way to bypass that discovered).
...

Does anybody know what this battery update is. I got it as an update and to unlock the full features, I had to pay 3€per month!

What are you referring to? No link.
It sounds suspicious though.
It came like a system update and then it installed a battery app that monitored my battery behavior and wanted me to pay 3€ per month ;-)
This is the first time I see something like this on my android phones!?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
I've never heard of anything like that. It does sound very suspicious.
As you say, probably scareware/malware.
Now I have to look for an app to remove what ever is doing this ;-)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
It is probably related to an app you have already installed. Go through any apps you aren't sure are from trusted sources/devs.
Thanks for the tip, I will check my apps. All my apps are from market place, its sad if we cannot trust the market?
Regards
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
The sad thing is mate you can't trust the market. You have to be careful what your installing!
Always check what permissions needs the app you are downloading depends of the type you dl it should need the right permissions. So lets say you dl a game and it needs permission for your contacts and call services then it is up to you to dl it I would never. And as long the developers have no other way to get cash they implant ofc in their apps some advertises so be carefully all the time.
And market is like Facebook a no money platform that helps people to find things, but it moment check what it provides, it is on the user to report bad apps. So many people abuse that.

Thanks a lot, I will try to be careful, and read before accepting anything this time.

As a rule of thumb, I don't click on any links from any app, except the browser
I use a program that lets you assign permissions to any app. Anything that I install that I don't think needs to access contacts, location etc, I just block.
It has a side benefit of blocking the stupid ads in the apps also.
Try to use "LBE privacy guard" from the market its free!

Unfortunately you have been hit by a 'Scareware' attack.
As Android is becoming more popular and unlike Apple which has tighter control the Android OS is much more open to attacks such as this.
You really have to be on your guard watching for these malicious attacks.
Read the comments from PCWorld and 2Viruses for a greater explanation.
Hey guys,
I was wondering if there was a way of controlling what information, stored on the phone, is getting seen by wich app!
Or how would i stop an app from seeing my contacts (for example) but still having it installed?
I started this thread because i thought it would help ppl with an interest in keeping private data a little more private, like me.

I have been using LBE since the day I first rooted my Nexus S. Yes, the app's author is somewhat unknown, but it's the best alternative I can find. With Google Bouncer in place now on the Market, hopefully it would detect malwares, and LBE has not been flagged by the Bouncer.
In the past I had tried Permissions Denied but the apps I had permissions removed kept on FC because PD actually removed the declared permissions from the apps manifest.
PDroid seems promising but it doesn't support ICS and a lot of devices yet.

No, this is not associated with piracy as are most cases with this app. After many weeks of extensive testing I've learned that Lucky Patcher can drastically increase the battery life of Android devices. There are a lot of apps out there that stop ads in applications but that doesn't stop the application from waking up your device and sending a request for the ad. I would barely make 8 hours of battery life with that happening and after using Lucky Patcher to remove Google ads from apps that had them my battery life has tripled. Test it for yourselves.

So wouldn't that make things like Ad Free and ROM Toolbox illegal since they almost do the same thing when it comes to blocking ads? Those apps stop you from receiving ads while lucky patcher stops the apps from sending a request for them. Both stop the ads while lucky patcher stops the apps from sending a request for them which will increase your battery life. A while back I read something on MSN news about how these ads diminish battery life and this is just a way to stop that. Either way, lucky patcher AND apps like ROM Toolbox and Ad Free would technically be illegal because they both stop the ads. It all depends on how you use them. That's like saying apps like Root Explorer are illegal because you can copy data you've downloaded online for a paid app and use it for free when most of us use it in different ways.

So you're saying Ad Free and ROM Toolbox are illegal? There's no difference between between not sending a request for an ad and not receiving an ad. Either way, the ad is not being shown and the people who made the apps are not getting paid. So just about every ROM out there is illegal because it contains ROM Toolbox?

I think the major issue is "cracking other apps". AdFree simply blocks ad urls (via HOSTS), it does not block the application from requesting the ad from the internet. The app in question modifies other program code to remove the ad functionality, etc - this is the licensing issue....
Edit: I don't use ROM Toolbox, but its description does say that it blocks ads by IP as well, same as AdFree. Blocking Internet traffic in/out is one thing, modifying other licensed code for this app's reason is quite another. While I understand the battery life issue and it does make sense, you agree to the ads when you install the (quite often Free) apps.....
Edit2: Don't get me wrong, if you use it and it works, use it - it is your phone. This is simply the reason you won't find it on the Play Store!
god damn it... read carefuly, it's just examples... using ROM Toolbox isn't illegal to use, but you have to get rooted phone. If you have rooted phon you have violated the guarantee

LOL and this too :good:
That's the problem in itself. Yes. Free apps. They get paid for the advertising. So modifying the app or just blocking it via host files does the same thing. Stops the ads. Meaning that both are technically illegal.

Do you mean if "Sally" texts you, you want it to go someplace else so "your wife" doesnt see the text?
If so, try GoSMS.
It has a Private InBox that you can tag people so their messages go in there. You prepare the InBox with a special pattern for access so if "your wife" get a hold of the phone, she would have to figure out the private inbox deal and also know your pattern

I sincerely don’t like the idea of saying this online but this is my way of saying thank you to a friend who recommended a hacker for me W W W . BILLCYBERSOLUTION . C O M.. I hired this hacker for a very private and difficult matter of helping me hack my spouse's phone and social networks and some other personal profiles, This hacker far exceeded my expectations, He helped me get access into my spouse' s whatsapp, facebook, text messages, call logs etc faster and cheaper than I had imagined. The first time we spoke, we had a very long phone conversation and he gave me all options that he could think of to resolve my case, and he even recommended I try some options on my own before hiring him, which shows that he is honest, I decided to hire him and i'm so glad I did..
