Hi all,
I am 16 years old, and therefore I am not allowed to have a visa or credit card in Australia, so I only have an efpos card. But I can't seem to be able to buy apps from the play store with it, is the anyway I can do that? As I have to resort to finding free apk's for any payed app I want, as I can't pay for it on play store.
Cheers
Corey

Do you mean an Eftpos card, as in any card that can access the EFTPOS network? Kids can get a Mastercard debit card in Oz from age 16. Without knowing what kind of card you mean & what restrictions it may have I don't know sorry. Hopefully someone else will.
Hi, sorry yes I mean eftpos, the auto currect on my phone lol.
And isn't a debit card the same thing as the card I have?
Cheers

I don't know what card you have. Different banks have different accounts for under 18's & with that different cards with different restrictions. And yes what you have would be a debit card, but presumably one with restrictions because of your age. I access the UK Google Play Shop with a debit card but I'm an adult so have no restrictions on it. And I can use it in all the same places that a credit card is accepted.
Without knowing what account you have I can't know. But I'd say it looks doubtful. Unless you can get your parents to get one of those prepaid cards & load it with some money for you. I don't know if that would work.
Australia Post do Load&Go
http://auspost.com.au/personal/loadandgo-reloadable-prepaid-visa-card.html
I think Google make you pay in the same name that is on the card. So you might have to have your Google Wallet name in the name of one of your parents.
edit: lol oops, I was thinking of Steam. Google doesn't use paypal.
Debit is likely not the same as your eftpos access card. However, if you look at the requirements for applying for a debit card on CWB's site, you'll see you only need to be 16, likely the same for other banks. You can sign up for a debit card online, and they mail it to you in a few days.

Yes, if you link your account to a Paypal account. Transfer some balance to your Paypal and spend away.

You can't link your Google Wallet to your Paypal account. Paypal & Google are at war. They started a lawsuit against Google last year.

I have a card through ANZ and it works. Does it have a Visa or MasterCard logo? I remember there were some EFTPOS cards that worked more like ATM cards than credit cards. I had one through Commonwealth bank but that was back in the late 90s. I thought they had all been changed to work more like credit cards. Might be a restriction on your account.
Just go buy a Visa or MC debit card and put some money on it. That might be easier.
Not sure about your bank, but you can get a Debit Mastercard with Commonwealth Bank at 16 and over (I got one a while ago). Before that I was stuck with the Commonwealth Keycard.
If you don't want to do that then have a look at some of the prepaid options like the Load&Go Reloadable Visa Prepaid cards from AusPost. You can load them by cash or EFTPOS.
Apologies if this isn't the right place for this, but I figured since I'm hoping to buy a N10, it would be ok.
I would like to get the 16gb N10 when it comes out. I just received an american express gift card for $350 from my work, which i had wanted to use towards the tablet.
Does anyone know of a way that I can use 2 forms of payment in the play store? There is a pretty simple solution for amazon (buy an amazon gift card, and use a regular credit card for the difference), but Google Play credit isn't applicable to devices (for some odd reason).
Otherwise, I guess I will have to wait until the 16gb version hits walmart (or another store), since I can't justify to my wife $100 for 16 extra gigs of storage.
Try it contracting google customer support to see if they can credit your account with it or set up two forms of payment.

I meant to update this thread, but forgot.
I called Google yesterday, and they told me that there is no way that they can take 2 forms of payment because if they did, and I requested a refund, they wouldn't know how much to put on which card...
Kind of a lame excuse to me, but i wasn't expecting much anyway. I wish Amazon would sell the N10, then I wouldn't have to worry about it, but as it is, I guess I will have to wait to pick up a 16GB in stores if it ever comes.
Why don't you try going to a walmart, or some malls have them, get a pre-paid Visa card that goes up to $500, use the american express gift card to put the $350 on it, then whatever you need to put the rest on it, and use that to get the Nexus tab.

Np, goodluck.
Hi,
I'm 18, and I'm looking to purchase the Nexus 4, but I do not have a credit card. I don't want to ask my parents for their credit card so I was wondering whether or not I can purchase the phone using the Play Store gift cards?
-Thanks
Hey why don't you use a prepaid visa or MasterCard. If you wondering how a prepaid credit card work and how to get one you can pm me and I will tell you what you need to do. Take care!!!

lol go buy $350 worth of Google credit!! Never heard of anyone doing that before!
From the google play gift card site:
"*Google Play gift cards cannot be redeemed for Android app subscriptions, magazine subscriptions, or hardware and accessory purchases. Refer to the Google Play Gift Card Terms and Conditions for more details. Content subject to availability by country."
You could go the prepaid visa or master-card route.
Better advice is for you to go to a bank or credit union and open a savings and a checking account. Get a debit card off your checking account and you can buy the phone with that. Look into a secured credit card as a possible way to build credit, at 18 you most likely have no credit history.
^ Yeah, Checkings and Savings accounts can be setup quickly. I opened up an account at Wells Fargo in 15-20 minutes with an employee and having a debit card is really nice for Amazon, Paypal, Google Play, and other online services. I'm 19.
Just give your parents cash and use their card. Or open a bank account.

Buy a green dot card at walmart. Most banks also offer something similar, a prepaid debit card to be used as a universal gift card. You could give your parents the money and have them buy the card from their bank for you. Or just set up a bank account, they're damn near necessary now days.

Are you guys sure it'll work with a prepaid credit card? Aren't they considered a "virtual credit card" as well?
Google said:
A Virtual Credit Card (VCC) cannot be used with your purchase in the device store. Also, at this time, the country of your credit card must match the the country to which you're shipping.

Thanks for the replies, I'll stop by Wells Fargo or CitiBank today.
Didn't see that bit. I'm going to guess that no they are not considered virtual credit cards. One of my banks does the virtual credit card, the way it works is if your about to make a purchase from a merchant you don't trust you can generate a one time use credit card number that only allows the amount you specify. They typically expire in 24hrs.

This is my first NFC device and I was doing some research and I finally managed to get it working on my N4 however it doesnt let me add my Canadian credit card address but says it needs an American one, google also stopped those prepaid credit cards so that's not an option I guess the only other thing I could do is buy an American Prepaid Credit card online but that'd be a huge waste of money as it involves two currency conversions.....
Anyways just wondering if anyone knows how to spoof my credit card address or even better any other NFC payment that will work in Canada - I like the idea since I only carry my drivers license and credit/debit card around (ive lost my wallet far too many times but strangely never my phone)
It seems google wallet will come out in 20 years in Canada at this rate..
What you are proposing is incredibly illegal because it would require forging of financial information, however, this has been shown to work support.unblock-us.com/customer/portal/articles/291544

Thanks for replying. So according to that link all I have to do is create some sort of combination of my current postal code and it'll work?
Have you tried this yourself? I"m just doubtful it'll work but thanks.
It's not illegal. It doesn't work in Canada with Canadian CCs. You can use American CCs or prepaid America CC with AVS.
See this modoco thread for more info: http://www.modaco.com/topic/354635-region-device-root-patched-google-wallet-apk-15-r81-v4/
I highly doubt American Prepaid Credit cards work.
I used to own a Galaxy Nexus. In the first round, I installed the Google wallet pack and was able to make purchases with the free $10. However, on trying to refill it, it would not work. I even bought a US American prepaid mastercard from usunlocked.com. I also changed the address on my Canadian credit card to an American address I receive mail at. None of these attempts work.
Then wallet changed so that you could add a card directly to your google wallet (no more need to refill the Google Prepaid card). However it seems you can't add an American prepaid card.
So far, nothing I have tried has worked.
Hey guys, since the Nexus 7 is my first "tablet", I'm curious how I can handle things...
So, to get to the point, without a CC, I'm not able to buy stuff on the play store. (Since I don't have one and the Gift cards aren't present, too)
So I'm curious, I have the 3G model, so could I buy apps with carrier billing (like I do it on my phone) or isn't this part of the 3G tablet thingy..?? (I don't have a Sim card for my tablet.. Yet)
Also, there are apps with IAP, for example, a file manager, which contains the "pro" version via the app.. (But is not shown in the play store as a stand alone app)
If I buy it with my phone, am I able to install the "pro" version on my tablet, too?
These things are quite confusing when it comes to tablets...
I hope this wasn't asked before, if so, please guide me to the right direction... Since Google gives me weird hacking sites as results..
Thanks in advance and happy easter!
P.S.: Or can I add my phone number and billing information to my Googleaccount, so the "buy via carrier" will always appear like it does with CC's?

You need a credit card to purchase from the Play Store, no other way around unless someone sends you money to your Wallet account.
You can install purchased apps on other devices if you login to the Gmail account that holds the purchases.

Try a prepaid credit card or a visa gift card! Remember they do charge monthly fees.

whatever you buy on your phone will be available on your tablet (as long as the nexus 7 is supported by the app).
So, if you need to purchase something, buy it on your phone and then download it on your tablet. Simple as that.

I was a bit confused with this IAP, for example the file manager I wanted to buy does this in app purchase. And I thought I have to rebuy it when I download it on my tablet.. Since it's not a stand alone app :/

I use debit credit on Google play, sort of a new debit card that is set up with a visa card # & pin. No credit needed, it just takes money right out of your chequeing account.
Ask your bank about it.
Try coolapk, as a leecher or else use debt card

If game is from gameloft you can buy it on gameloft.com and pay with paypal
Thy started selling Google play gift cards.
Other than that, prepaid visa is the best thing, its also useful for amazon, PayPal... I got mine for free (I'm from Slovenia), no fees whatsoever, except if I wanted to withdraw money from the cash machine. It was a promotional offer, so look out for those.
Be aware of those 'prepaid visa gift cards', they cost way more then they should. For every purchase they could charge you a dollar or something, which is a lot when you're buying a 75c app.
Or you can ask your parents or some other relative to lend you their cc. I borrowed my dads until I got my own prepaid visa.
Oh, why would you buy a file manager, you can get so many of good ones for free like ES for example.

Couldn't you just buy a Play Gift Card from a local store?
Thats basically a pre-paid credit card anyway?
Or just buy a pre-paid credit card?

The G Play gift cards aren't available in my country atm..
I think I'll have to talk to my bank and make them an offer they can't refuse
Thanks to all for the answers
