Guys pardon me if I'm posting this in the wrong place.......
I'm little confused about which tablet to buy....price is not an issue.....can someone recomend me the best tab on the market!
Should I buy the xoom....being that non us customers haven't got the 3.1 update......and plz if someone could tell me does the sd card slot work without 3.1....I heard it needs a software upgrade!
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App
its completely up to you. It all depends on your needs. And the SD card slot isn't officially supported in 3.1 either.
you can gate the sd card to work, and also the 3.1 update by reading here
i got my xoom in the states but have been on the tiamat kernel with 3.1 for ages now
tried the transformer, and might buy it yet, but the xoom is the best still
Is samsung tab 10.1 or the lg optimus pad better than xoom.....also can I make the sd card slot workin without unlockin the bootloader.....I don't want to void my warranty!
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App
Better?? there is no better, there are features and bloatware, and updates...
what you get with the xoom
crappy screen
micro USB with host capabilities (this means you need the stupid OTG to plug stuff like cameras and USB flash drives, altough the second one needs a kernel hack)
micro HDMI
software updates (pretty fast) but if you hack to get the Flashdrive and SD card reading forget about this.
Some say Built quality is better than acer
the Openness of this tablet, unlocked bootloader "google experience" device
Acer Iconia
crappy screen
full USB, don't remember HDMI
propietary ports so you need to get a 20 dollar accesory for everything you are willing to do. SUCKS BIG TIME
some more time to get updates
Asus transformer
"best screen" when you don't have any light leaks lol.
keyboard dock with full USB, SD card reader but 150 or 200 dollars more
micro sd slot (on a working condition)
when not docked you don't get any usb or anything just microSD
updates might take longer
Galaxy tab 10.1
Best screen when not light leaking
thinner/lighter than the others
usable micro SD
propietary port so any accesories OTG, USB whatever has to be used tru an adapter. so ditch out some more monay!!!
dont forget the bloatware.
I had to do a lot of research and ended up with the xoom, mainly because updates, I run stock, and will run stock as long as possible, I don't mind the "crappy" screen i can read all my websites/e-mails pictures no problems whatsoever, I can live with the"lag" on the UI (I don't really care about it, cause I'm not 24/7 switching desktops, that is just stupid). I can always hack this baby and get my SD card running same with Flash drives. You need to know what are you going to be doing with it, bare in mind a TABLET is a content search/reading or entertainment and not a full PC/Laptop replacement.
Hope that helps clarify some things, I know I missed a lot more specs on the tablets but that is mainly what I focused on.
***EDIT: To clarify crappy screen means LCD quality, that being said IPS is "the best" it is what iPad's use same as Asus and (I might be wrong) Samsung Tab 10.1, Acer is LCD I believe, the xoom I don't know what it has but it doesn't look like an IPS. you WILL notice the difference side by side.
If it were me, I'd be picking between the Xoom and the Tab 10.1, and it's a tough decision. I'm a big fan of my Xoom; it's replaced my laptop for most tasks. Just go play with them; check out specs, how they feel, etc.... I'm sure the Xoom will get faster updates, and it's a really solid device, but that Tab 10.1 is a pretty sexy piece of hardware.
I pick Xoom because of the Strong Dev support on this 3.1 Honeycomb device, in addition to a very sturdy feeling heavy metal piece.
Devs actually are what I jump to Android for. If not because of such, I will settle in apple product and listens to what she said.
if you like updates go with the xoom. If you like being a couple updates behind go with the competition. Xoom will always be updated about a month or more before the competition. We'll see when the other tabs finally get 3.1 which we've been enjoying for a couple of weeks now
ive been thinking of going with the galaxy tab 10.1 (though i really like the 8.9 version too)
it has twice the battery of either slate but weighs only 600g
but it is plastic!

I thought only the us version got the 3.1.......since I'm non us I don't think there would be fast updates?!

I'm considering getting a Xoom because of the sturdy build, just not quite sure if I'll be happy with the screen? I had a Transformer but also had the light bleed, unbalanced sound and a bit of a creaky case. I'm hanging on to find out how much the Samsung 10.1 will cost here in the UK, alas I think it will be beyond my 'willing to pay' (or what can I get away with spending) amount. I wish Samsung would get their finger out, I'm getting impatient.

You might be correct, sorry I didn't pay attention to the fact you're not in the US sorry. Its because of the way they did the galaxy s and their 1st tablet. The galaxy s froyo update was the biggest screw up ever and took the longest (at least in the US) as well as their 1st tablet only has gotten 1 update since release date. Personally I'm done with Samsung

i had a transformer and now have a wifi xoom. the build quality on the xoom is 100x better, but i do miss that vibrant screen from the asus.. too bad it was littered with light bleed on all edges and dead pixels. screen was beautiful though if you are able to ignore it.
the xooms are only 569 at costcos around here now, but it looks like they are phasing out the wifi only models based on the 2 stores i was in and speaking with the clerks. i plan on seeing what the galaxy tabs have to offer before my 90 day return window is up.
So...will all non us xooms will get 3.1......I'm asking this again and again because I have a real bad experience with moto b4.....I had the xt720.....evryone knows its story...the same model got an upgrade in korea....but not anywhere else!...

Guys moto xoom hasn't been launched in india yet.....I had enquired a little bit and got to know that there are rumors that the xoom will ship with 3.1 installed and with a working sd card slot......xoom will be available here by a week.....will let you guys know!

So NewEgg has a deal on the Galaxy tab currently (30 dollars off plus 50 dollar gift card) and was wondering if it is still something worth buying. Considering the progress made with HC as is, I can only expect it to get better if/when Google releases source.
For the price, is it still something you would buy today?
I just bought mine a couple of weeks ago and have no complaints. It gets used way more than my Asus Transformer does. I love the 7" screen, perfect size for me.

Was looking at the transformer too. May I ask why? Is it too big?
Exactly. Try reading a book with a 10" device always seem to need two hands. Typing with both thumbs on the Tab vs finger pecking on the transformer. The size of the 7" is perfect for me.

its worth buying if you can get a deal.
As mentioned above 7" is a major bonus. By implication though it means you really want 3G as well. When I was contracting (and hence moving around, taking a lot of different public transport routes etc.) it was an awesome travel companion. It also makes it a great ereader in a pinch.
Custom ROM it and performance is pretty good, esp. as Samsung's browser is hardware accelerated.
If its going to be sitting on your coffee table w/ wifi though, or the price is comparable to a 'current' honeycomb Tegra 2 10" slab, I'd go honeycomb/dual core. There's not much of an upgrade path for it, honeycomb is going to be an unofficial port (if at all?)
I got mine at a knockdown price and really like it. However I still wouldn't have paid RRP for it (by the same token I'm not paying RRP for transformer etc. or even ipad so duh)

Agreed... pretty easy to find on ebay or CL for $250 or less... picking up another one tomorrow for $200... Almost as good a deal as the HP TP and a lot more clarity about its future, apps, upgradability, etc.
It's still a great device. Is it the newest and latest? Nope. Will it run tons of great apps and be a solid performer for most of your uses? Sure! Now is also the time to snap up cheap discounted cases and other accessories for the 7".
I flashed the Overcome ROM on mine after I was tired of waiting on T-Mobile for the 2.3 update. That's a great ROM. Super battery life, video calling (with FFC working great) via Google Talk, excellent ebook reader, calls over Google Voice with Groove IP, etc etc.
I say this even though I also have the Galaxy 10.1. That's for lazy home use. I can take the 7" with me just about everywhere.

funny, I have the same mindset/usage pattern between my Galaxy Tab and my iPad...
I been hearing great things about the SGS2 so I set aside the cash for it and yesterday went to get it but came back without making the purchase.
When I held it in my hands I just couldnt figure out how the puny screen could be any better than my SGT. Battery life is similar, I can run similar or same applications and both can do depending on what I install from the market. With the custom ROMs my SGT OS is probably higher version, less buggy and smoother than what I would get on the SGS2. Yea there might be some new high tech capabilities but do I need it. Most likely not and at this time don't even know what they are.
So I gave up the idea of going smaller than the 7". Quite a while back I kicked the idea of going bigger than 7". I can still put my SGT in my back pocket or my jacket breast pocket and cary it with me anywhere. Try doing that with anything biger than 7".
For me there is absolutely no good reason to go for anything else for a while.
Yep, still worth buying.

New or used?
I'm looking at buying another used one for $200CDN for my GF. She prefers the Galaxy Tab over the Transformer as well.
I'm thinking about buying 3 of these for the office because of the portability. It would make a great tool for our QC department.
Definitely worth buying. Look at my signature of what I have had and look at which tab is still standing. The 7" form factor is the best. Not to mention this thing plays any video I've thrown at it. Such was not the case for the others tabs.

After having yours for a little while, do you still like it? Would you rather have something else? I'm also thinking of the eee transformer our the iPad. Want to ask some people with tablet experience.
Thanks

I've got an Aussie GT-P1000T and its a great device. I quite like the smaller 7" form factor and that's really this tab's biggest point of difference to the other tabs you mention. The Transformer is 10.1" (and it's replacement has already been announced if that's a problem for you) while the iPad is 9.7".
The only other thing to keep in mind is that this year Samsung will be releasing a HC-capable replacement for this tab as well as larger 7.7" and 8.9" Tabs so you might want to keep that in mind before you buy anything.
the original gt 7 inch is THE ONLY TABLET WITH TELEPHONE CAPABILITY....no other tablet provides this. so you can actually "get rid" of your celphone by having this tablet. You should use handsfree kit BTW for making calls....
As for the UI well I will leave it up to you to decide as my experience with android might be misunderstood as trolling.....hint: I recently got hold of an ipad 2....
It's still a great tablet, everything works perfectly on it (including calls). If you are looking for cheap and qualility, this is it, you can find cheap used/refurb SGT7 with 3G. if money is no object to you, I would wait for 7.0plus or 7.7

love mine after 6 months, though i still wish a major company would do a 5.5 or 6" version that has phone (in US) too.
I totally agree the posts here. I've had the GT-P1000 since June 2011
and I've been in love ever since.
Form factor + Telephone + Awesome community support
(HC RC1 + Overcome ROMS) capabilities are its selling points to me.

well the prime will have double the processing power so it will be much faster and smoother. but I'm not saying the og is laggy I love it and do not want to upgrade.
If I was in your position I would wait till the prime dropped and then pick up the og for a pretty good discount, if there are any. just one mans opinion. UNLESS you plan on watching alot of 1080p videos because the og is not that great I know I know there are a bunch of work arounds and settings but still its not perfect. if that's the case then spend the extra money and get the prime
Currently Fusionized
Well, I have the og and works perfectly fine. When I heard about the prime I was a little shocked since it is a quad core. But my original rooted runs smooth and love edvrything about it. But its up to you.

As good as any net book or Mac air. The dock adds size and weight but it still is a small light package.

The Prime (although I haven't used it myself) is definitely the Tablet to get at the moment imho, beats everything else. Also with the dock which also offers extra battery life and a USB Slot. And the Tablet itself is extremely thin and relatively lightweight, also with the dock it is still petty portable, better than the og and much better than most Notebooks/ Netbooks.
Thanks for all your tips, and I think ill get the og even though my dad questions me about not getting the prime or even the ipad :/ but the galaxy tab seems nice too. So galaxy or transformer?

You mean the Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs the original Transformer?
Depends on what you want. The keyboard dock is only available for the Transformer of course. The tablets themselves... The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is thinner and lighter but does not have a microHDMI port and no microSD Slot as well. Their screens are very similar. Both are running Android 3.2 Honeycomb, both pretty smooth and fast (but the Galaxy Tab has been customized by Samsung a bit more, so some apps might look slightly different and there are some useful mini apps / widgets that are always accessable like notes, calendar, task manager etc. The downside of this is probably that software updates arrive on the Transformer first and Samsung takes a bit longer.
You have to decide; neither one is a bad tablet. Also consider the price (I assume the og Transformer is the cheapest, Galaxy Tab a bit more expensive, the Prime another few dollars more.
I love my TF101, but if I didn't have it and was getting a tab, I would go for the prime, no doubt.
Was just at a local best buy and they sold out on the transformer, guess I'll have to wait but glad to know that this tab is still popular

I'm in Germany now... I'm looking for the release in Europe of the Transformer Tf300t without the dock which is about 399€.... on the other hand I have the Iconia A700 in preorder in amazon for 480€ (that i guess i will have it as latest for middle of June, what do you think?).
Which one would you pick and why?
Thanks...
I picked the TF300, cause I'm on a budget and really wanted the keyboard dock. LOVE the dock. Don't see me ever buying a tablet that doesn't have something comaprable.
Imagine the resolution on the A700 is nice though.
If money isn't an issue, perhaps you should wait for the TF700. Get the high resolution, high specs, and a dock.
When the tf700 comes out I plan on selling my tf300 and pick up the tf700. Once having the dock, can't picture going back to Acer.
one thing i'm afraid of, is in the Iconia A700, what will happen with all those apps not prepared for that high resolution? and another thing will be: will the tf300 look much more portable rather than the Iconia A700?
I think i prefer the A700 but i want it now!! jeje
I bought the TF300, it is an awesome tablet, and I really can't afford what they are going to charge for the 700. Other than a full HD screen, I don't see any advantages to it.
i'd buy the a700 but since i do heavy typing the tf300t is more for me.
Thread revival
I have this decision to make now and it seems to be a very difficult one. They are at the same price for the 16G tf300t vs 32G A700.
I don't mind having less storage as I do plan to get and extra sd card, however I do intend to use the tablet for gaming while on travels. I still read lots of posts about the Acer being slow and laggy in some games. I don't know how updated these reviews are. Maybe it got fixed, maybe there are patches. Would love the A700 as I think the high res screen will look nice for movies and general browsing.
However, I would overlook the high res and more storage If I could know for sure that the TF300T would perform better in the latest games.
Erm how about actually using them yourself??? I HATE people that buy stuff because others tell them too. When I buy something I do my homework, I go & test the unit myself & even play games on them if I have to. Thats how I decide.

Yes, and put the two devices side by side, they are both ok and fast. So the obvious choice would be the A700 because of the screen and storage space. However, I cannot go into a shop and expect to be able to install one of the new, full, 3D, games on both of them to see which lags more. That is what I would expect to clear from an answer here.

As far as I'm concerned they're both quadcore - which 3d game shouldn't work? If it lags or doesn't run as expected there's always the chance to unlock and get a recovery in order to flash a custom rom.
I myself had to decide between these two tablets just recently - I took the TF300T, simply because of the keydocking - would be a pain in the ass to write things down while being in a lecture without keyboard...
But I don't see no reason why any 3d game shouldn't work - hell, even my old Desire HD did a good job on Mass Effect Infiltrator
Though some people thought the screen resolution of the A700 wouldn't be too good - don't know why they thought it, maybe they expect Apps which are not optimized for this resolution to be too tiny to even be used properly, I don't know...
If it helps you, I decided to buy the tf300t and although I don't really play 3d games that often, I have to tell you that I fell in love with this tablet
