well the prime will have double the processing power so it will be much faster and smoother. but I'm not saying the og is laggy I love it and do not want to upgrade.
If I was in your position I would wait till the prime dropped and then pick up the og for a pretty good discount, if there are any. just one mans opinion. UNLESS you plan on watching alot of 1080p videos because the og is not that great I know I know there are a bunch of work arounds and settings but still its not perfect. if that's the case then spend the extra money and get the prime
Currently Fusionized
Well, I have the og and works perfectly fine. When I heard about the prime I was a little shocked since it is a quad core. But my original rooted runs smooth and love edvrything about it. But its up to you.

As good as any net book or Mac air. The dock adds size and weight but it still is a small light package.

The Prime (although I haven't used it myself) is definitely the Tablet to get at the moment imho, beats everything else. Also with the dock which also offers extra battery life and a USB Slot. And the Tablet itself is extremely thin and relatively lightweight, also with the dock it is still petty portable, better than the og and much better than most Notebooks/ Netbooks.
Thanks for all your tips, and I think ill get the og even though my dad questions me about not getting the prime or even the ipad :/ but the galaxy tab seems nice too. So galaxy or transformer?

You mean the Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs the original Transformer?
Depends on what you want. The keyboard dock is only available for the Transformer of course. The tablets themselves... The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is thinner and lighter but does not have a microHDMI port and no microSD Slot as well. Their screens are very similar. Both are running Android 3.2 Honeycomb, both pretty smooth and fast (but the Galaxy Tab has been customized by Samsung a bit more, so some apps might look slightly different and there are some useful mini apps / widgets that are always accessable like notes, calendar, task manager etc. The downside of this is probably that software updates arrive on the Transformer first and Samsung takes a bit longer.
You have to decide; neither one is a bad tablet. Also consider the price (I assume the og Transformer is the cheapest, Galaxy Tab a bit more expensive, the Prime another few dollars more.
I love my TF101, but if I didn't have it and was getting a tab, I would go for the prime, no doubt.
Was just at a local best buy and they sold out on the transformer, guess I'll have to wait but glad to know that this tab is still popular

I spent nearly an hour today playing with a XOOM demo. I was impressed with the snappiness of the hardware, but incredibly unimpressed with Honeycomb.
Maybe its just a matter of being too used to something and not wanting to change.
But it seemed to me many things were out of place, and I couldn't do the things I wanted to do in the manner I have become used to.
I would be happy with a dual core Tab, but I dont need no stinking Honeycomb!
Hmmm. I think honeycomb is pretty cool.

My brother in law recently asked me if I wanted to take his xoom off his hands for 400$ bucks. First off I'm not too fond of the moto brand butim willing to give it a shot. Anywho I was wondering to get some general input on the device.
How are you guys digging the speed, over all performance of the device?
are there any hardware quirks or the like I should know of?
How easy is it to obtain the 1.5ghz overclock? Also how is it faring in battery life and system stability with the oc?
Sorry for the questions but seeing reports of gt10.1 feeling snappier and smoother than the xoom I got a little worried. Seeing as if they're almost identical on the silicon front.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
The Xoom and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 use the exact same processor/gpu and software, anyone who says it's faster is just wrong.
Quite frankly while oc to 1.5G is extremely good and many thanks to our devs here,
new 3.1 stock is running smooth like silk and much much faster than even the oc one of 3.0.1
I think google hit the major home run on the previous ipad 2 advantage, the responsiveness of everything (apps, screen etc)
LOVING MY 3.1 so far.
They aren't using the same processor. The xoom uses a tegra 2 while the galaxy tab uses a new Samsung dualcore Orion processor, similar to the apple a5.

Wow, I actually wrote a pretty great reply to you and accidentally hit discard on my Xoom, that's -1 lol.
So I'm not going to type everything I typed previously but ill try to end with this. Specifically I like myXoom because its small with a bignscreen, it has a good weight and feel to it, not a huge fan of the super thin stuff.
You won't catch too many people here saying this but, as long as it runs 3.0+ you're golden, they'll all do the same stuff. The Xoom does have pretty much everything, I read somewhere the Tab does not have a micro USB port, that's a dealbreaker for me.

I had a sylvania tablet for the the longest and manged to get Google Market and froyo on it (unless you had one, you know that was a GREAT feat!) and I was happy with it...unfortunately, circumstances forced me to sell it and when I did he had just gotten rid of his 7' Galaxy Tab, telling me that the simplest tilt would make it change orientation quickly. I was surprised that he chucked it for a sylvania. I plan on either getting a Color Nook next, or try to find a sale on an Acer a500.
Also:ironically, 3 weeks after I sold the Sylvania Tablet, the source code was finally released for it, which means development for it is soon to rise *sigh* real bad time, I guess...
We bought a bunch of sgtabs at work. Love mine from a practical standpoint, but the dev world is a bit behind. I don't think its lacking much, just a reliable cwm and then a complete set of stock files (modem, kernel, rom) and things will be moving. I expect the source will eventually come out. I hear that's what's lacking in the kernel dev dept. Personally I like samsung. When the 4g 10.1 is released I plan on getting that one. Despite the slow update releases, you have to admit, the galaxy s line rocks.

So NewEgg has a deal on the Galaxy tab currently (30 dollars off plus 50 dollar gift card) and was wondering if it is still something worth buying. Considering the progress made with HC as is, I can only expect it to get better if/when Google releases source.

Exactly. Try reading a book with a 10" device always seem to need two hands. Typing with both thumbs on the Tab vs finger pecking on the transformer. The size of the 7" is perfect for me.

its worth buying if you can get a deal.
As mentioned above 7" is a major bonus. By implication though it means you really want 3G as well. When I was contracting (and hence moving around, taking a lot of different public transport routes etc.) it was an awesome travel companion. It also makes it a great ereader in a pinch.
Custom ROM it and performance is pretty good, esp. as Samsung's browser is hardware accelerated.
If its going to be sitting on your coffee table w/ wifi though, or the price is comparable to a 'current' honeycomb Tegra 2 10" slab, I'd go honeycomb/dual core. There's not much of an upgrade path for it, honeycomb is going to be an unofficial port (if at all?)
I got mine at a knockdown price and really like it. However I still wouldn't have paid RRP for it (by the same token I'm not paying RRP for transformer etc. or even ipad so duh)

Agreed... pretty easy to find on ebay or CL for $250 or less... picking up another one tomorrow for $200... Almost as good a deal as the HP TP and a lot more clarity about its future, apps, upgradability, etc.
It's still a great device. Is it the newest and latest? Nope. Will it run tons of great apps and be a solid performer for most of your uses? Sure! Now is also the time to snap up cheap discounted cases and other accessories for the 7".
I flashed the Overcome ROM on mine after I was tired of waiting on T-Mobile for the 2.3 update. That's a great ROM. Super battery life, video calling (with FFC working great) via Google Talk, excellent ebook reader, calls over Google Voice with Groove IP, etc etc.
I say this even though I also have the Galaxy 10.1. That's for lazy home use. I can take the 7" with me just about everywhere.

funny, I have the same mindset/usage pattern between my Galaxy Tab and my iPad...
I been hearing great things about the SGS2 so I set aside the cash for it and yesterday went to get it but came back without making the purchase.
When I held it in my hands I just couldnt figure out how the puny screen could be any better than my SGT. Battery life is similar, I can run similar or same applications and both can do depending on what I install from the market. With the custom ROMs my SGT OS is probably higher version, less buggy and smoother than what I would get on the SGS2. Yea there might be some new high tech capabilities but do I need it. Most likely not and at this time don't even know what they are.
So I gave up the idea of going smaller than the 7". Quite a while back I kicked the idea of going bigger than 7". I can still put my SGT in my back pocket or my jacket breast pocket and cary it with me anywhere. Try doing that with anything biger than 7".
For me there is absolutely no good reason to go for anything else for a while.
Yep, still worth buying.

Shameless plug for my thread in the marketplace.
Hey guys, so tomorrow is my birthday and my grandparents said they'd be willing to buy me a tablet. Thing is, I don't know which tablet I want. I'm highly considering the Galaxy Tab 10.1 since I love Touchwiz UX, and looking at the reviews makes me even more confident. However, I'm not sure if I should wait a big longer for tablets to get quad-core, and if that would affect gaming for me in the near future. (Like for example, newer 3D games would be hard to run since I don't have quad-core).
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I still think the ASUS Transformer is tops with the dock. AND they have UX ported.
However the Galaxy Tab(s) are going to get good development. But hell so does the Transformer.
I would say wait for Kal-El. But they keep pushing it back.
Well, I'm actually not planning on rooting it only because its a gift and I have my phone to mess around with so I don't really care for that. I know what you mean though about kal-el. I highly recommend ipad. As of right now none other tablet works like ipad. I bought touchpad during fire sale but I sold it recently because it didn't do better than my phone or laptop.
This means that my touchpad wasn't worth while to bring to work, as it lacked note taking ability nor presenting ability. I bet if u buy galaxy for 500$, you will spend most of time trying to tinker it to do what you intended to but ultimately gets frustrated and sell it.
Also most of the productivity apps are fine tuned for ipad.
However if you are going to use tablet for media consumption, get kindle fire. It has vast library of amazon goodness. But it lacks mic and ffc which makes skype unusable.

Well, the galaxy tab was good at updating to 3.2 pretty quickly. And since it's their only big tablet (other than the different sizes), it's going to get updated more frequently than the epic most likely (especially since I'm getting the wifi version, so no worries about getting the OTA from Sprint). As much as I want to wait for kal-el, I think I'm just gonna go with the galaxy tab 10.1. Kal-el is keep getting pushed back, and for all I know it won't come out for another 4-5 months. Sure I may miss out on some games, but technology moves fast these days. I guess you gotta find a point and stick with it for a while.

I know what you mean. I've definitely considered the iPad. It's great for gaming, productivity, almost everything. Jailbreaking is harmless and I never have to worry about battery life. But the beauty of Android that I love that it's constantly growing. Not just in rom development, but in the marketplace and system as a whole. I feel like everyday I can wake up and see a new app for Android or a new leak of the latest build. Besides, I love the customizability and Touchwiz UX. And I think I'll be satisfied with it. I have my phone for hacking and everything, so I don't think I'll get too many urges to go and break my tablet.
