I wonder whether this tablet just made my Tab obsolete. Any clues?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Xoom is a completely different device. I do not see how it can obsolete SGT. They can coexist quite peacefully
I also own a Tab. I think it is just a smart phone with big screen. Samsung Apps are not helping much with that. Let's see what Honeycomb can do on 7" screen. When tab will still have android < 3.0 for months after XOOM coming out, XOOM will definitely be better tablet than Tab at least for a while.
I agree with above. I am very happy with my tab but after watching the xoom keynote I am already trying to figure out how to sell my tab and grab the xoom on release day lol. Honeycomb looks smoking!! Does anyone have any clue whether we will get honeycomb at all and whether it will have a similar ui as the xoom? Or will samsung ruin it with touchwiz?
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
don't get rid of the Tab just yet... if you wait for the Honeycomb update, you'll have the Xoom's little helper
after all, the Tab is still more portable.
Just hope that Samsung gets Honeycomb out for the tab better than they did the US Galaxy S devices...
I hear ya I don't think I could ever go with a ten inch. Now if the xoom had a 7 inch I would probably trade up. The only thing I hate about the tab is samsung and having to rely on them for updates. I have been waiting for an official update for my captivate forever. If it wasn't for this community I wouldn't even have froyo. What a joke.

I had the galaxy tab for about a month. It was just like a galaxy phone(I had that POS as well) this will blow it out of the water

The sgstab was severely outdated by the xoom lol
Itsbasically a 7inch phone
It does everything my epic 4g does, cept bigger
I really hate that I like a couple of motorola products :/ but they're gonna be the htc this gen.
Actually, didn't they also launch 2.0 with the droid lol
So maybe 4.0 will be motorola too

Don't get me wrong. I liked the tab, it just felt EXACTLY the same as my fascinate does. And my fascinate sucks. I won't buy a Samsung no matter what ever ever ever ever ever I won't say it again but u get the point.

I hear ya but I have a captivate and love most everything about it except the gps and the fact that I have to rely on samsung for updates. If I never found xda and custom roms I probably would have sold it. But as fast as my tab goes I absolutely love it. It is everything I like about my captivate plus more. I got the car dock and I gotta say the portability is my favorite part I think the xoom is gonna be to hard for using it anywhere except college work and home. I have friends with the ipad that used it away from home for the first week and now it collects dust on the coffee table. Plus I think when three tab gets honeycomb they will be equals.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
Same here. I had a Galaxy S i9000M (Canadian Bell version), they're frying all over the place, it's a joke, the motherboards have to be replaced (go check the forum here on XDA, some people are on their 3rd-4th bricked phone!). And my warranty was voided because the USB port had "liquid damage" (which it never had, they just check the USB pins, if it's blue-ish instead of golden, that's it. It was simply due to moisture, thanks to the cheap plastic "protector"). Worst experience ever, NEVER gonna buy Samsung again.
EDIT: Forgot to quote the original message:

Xoom vs G-Tab
My friend has the galaxy tab. It is small, for a tab. It is huge, for a phone. I got an iPad, which will quickly be sold to fund the purchase of my Xoom when it hits, and the 9.6" screen does not make it a hassle to carry around. As far as comparison, there really is none. They will run different versions of android, the Xoom will have a dual-core CPU with integrated graphics from nvidia. 'nuff said. Motorola just got my business back. The last phone i bought from them was the first-gen Razor. Samsung will need to do more than put a super AMOLED screen in the GTab II.
When the Xoom is finally released, Motorola are already quoting 'March' delay the Xoom will be 40% more expensive than the Tab, not a lot of competition between the two.
Buying any of these new android tablets on the day of release sounds like a bit of a mugs game, wait a month and they're $150 cheaper, three months and they're half price

I second that but this community is pretty good at releasing the new android version when Samsung fails to do so. I have had froyo on my captivate since it was leaked and from what I heard cm7 gingerbread is on its way. So hopefully even if Samsung drags their feet as usual we should see some unofficial build.

It a samsung policy to charge carriers for what it considers to be standard update, (not a critical one, where there are bugs etc) carriers don't want to take up the option (it can cost $$$$$$$$, who can blame them) so it's the end user who misses out

No one has confirmed this and Samsung has denied it. At this point until someone has better information that supports the story you are referencing, you are spreading malicious rumors and this is coming from a current unhappy Samsung customer who can't wait to get back with HTC.
Motorola has confirmed a end of February release for the xoom. Likely it will have some type of subsidized priceing because all the hype around this being the first tablet with 3.0 and the most powerful to date. They wouldn't want to ruin that hype with and over pricing of the tablet. That's just my 2cents
I have a 1ghz phone too!! And this was sent using XDA App
Does anyone have tablet envy? The phones with bigger screens look cool too (flashback to my little Palm 700wx). I'm anti-Apple but bought one for my parents (thought having one button would be simple for them!) Folks and kids love it!
I like reading Kindle on my Epic also, but it is a little small, and not usable in bright sun (Beach or pool)... nothing beats a Kindle for that.
I travel a lot, and have to carry the big laptop also. So how ridiculous is it to want/carry my Epic, laptop, buy a Kindle and a tablet. And as far as the tablet which one? Big ass 10.1 or a semi-portable 7.5, or a conversion deal Asus transform/slider.
My 13 yr old's b-day is next week also. Gonna buy him a Nook Color tomorrow and play with it all week (ie root and CM7). Who likes that? Any big drawbacks there compared to the fancy, new tablets comming out (aside from no camera/GPS?)
Discuss....

i miss my nook, its a modest little android tablet. CM7 is has gotten really smooth since I last had my nook. I did however just got the iconia and sold my nook.
The ten inch tablet does not feel to me atleast a cumbersome device to carry around
I had and loved a hacked nook color. would still have it if my wife didnt leave it on a plane.
The new Nook colors have been re-partitioned. Makes it harder or impossible(can't remember which) to root. I was planing on gettng one too, but until they figure out something, I'm holding back.

Kinda want a tablet myself, specifically the new Galaxy Tab 8.9. My only irk about it though is that there seems to be a lot less tablet-optimized apps for Android as opposed to iOS. Kinda sad about that; I want to be able to be able to do tablet-specific stuff at least a little bit, not just a bigger phone essentially. Idk, I could be wrong though !
Nook Color is currently the best bang for the buck
There's an informative comparison at anandtech.com right now; can't post link due to rules, but it's not hard to find - it's on front page still.
With CM7 and OC to 1.1GHz (or even 1.2GHz, but less stable), and the IPS screen, the NC is a great place holder until the Kal El tabs come out later this year. I'd hold back on buying anything until then.

You have to remember, honeycomb hasn't exactly been out for a while. Before that, it was kinda pointless and not as gratifying to make something tablet specific since they ran the same android version as phones. But we're close to the point in time in development cycles counting from the debut of honeycomb that you'll start to see tablet oriented software. Just keep your eyes open.

So NewEgg has a deal on the Galaxy tab currently (30 dollars off plus 50 dollar gift card) and was wondering if it is still something worth buying. Considering the progress made with HC as is, I can only expect it to get better if/when Google releases source.
For the price, is it still something you would buy today?
I just bought mine a couple of weeks ago and have no complaints. It gets used way more than my Asus Transformer does. I love the 7" screen, perfect size for me.

Exactly. Try reading a book with a 10" device always seem to need two hands. Typing with both thumbs on the Tab vs finger pecking on the transformer. The size of the 7" is perfect for me.

its worth buying if you can get a deal.
As mentioned above 7" is a major bonus. By implication though it means you really want 3G as well. When I was contracting (and hence moving around, taking a lot of different public transport routes etc.) it was an awesome travel companion. It also makes it a great ereader in a pinch.
Custom ROM it and performance is pretty good, esp. as Samsung's browser is hardware accelerated.
If its going to be sitting on your coffee table w/ wifi though, or the price is comparable to a 'current' honeycomb Tegra 2 10" slab, I'd go honeycomb/dual core. There's not much of an upgrade path for it, honeycomb is going to be an unofficial port (if at all?)
I got mine at a knockdown price and really like it. However I still wouldn't have paid RRP for it (by the same token I'm not paying RRP for transformer etc. or even ipad so duh)

Agreed... pretty easy to find on ebay or CL for $250 or less... picking up another one tomorrow for $200... Almost as good a deal as the HP TP and a lot more clarity about its future, apps, upgradability, etc.
It's still a great device. Is it the newest and latest? Nope. Will it run tons of great apps and be a solid performer for most of your uses? Sure! Now is also the time to snap up cheap discounted cases and other accessories for the 7".
I flashed the Overcome ROM on mine after I was tired of waiting on T-Mobile for the 2.3 update. That's a great ROM. Super battery life, video calling (with FFC working great) via Google Talk, excellent ebook reader, calls over Google Voice with Groove IP, etc etc.
I say this even though I also have the Galaxy 10.1. That's for lazy home use. I can take the 7" with me just about everywhere.

funny, I have the same mindset/usage pattern between my Galaxy Tab and my iPad...
I been hearing great things about the SGS2 so I set aside the cash for it and yesterday went to get it but came back without making the purchase.
When I held it in my hands I just couldnt figure out how the puny screen could be any better than my SGT. Battery life is similar, I can run similar or same applications and both can do depending on what I install from the market. With the custom ROMs my SGT OS is probably higher version, less buggy and smoother than what I would get on the SGS2. Yea there might be some new high tech capabilities but do I need it. Most likely not and at this time don't even know what they are.
So I gave up the idea of going smaller than the 7". Quite a while back I kicked the idea of going bigger than 7". I can still put my SGT in my back pocket or my jacket breast pocket and cary it with me anywhere. Try doing that with anything biger than 7".
For me there is absolutely no good reason to go for anything else for a while.
Yep, still worth buying.

New or used?
I'm looking at buying another used one for $200CDN for my GF. She prefers the Galaxy Tab over the Transformer as well.
I'm thinking about buying 3 of these for the office because of the portability. It would make a great tool for our QC department.
Definitely worth buying. Look at my signature of what I have had and look at which tab is still standing. The 7" form factor is the best. Not to mention this thing plays any video I've thrown at it. Such was not the case for the others tabs.

Shameless plug for my thread in the marketplace.
Hey guys, so tomorrow is my birthday and my grandparents said they'd be willing to buy me a tablet. Thing is, I don't know which tablet I want. I'm highly considering the Galaxy Tab 10.1 since I love Touchwiz UX, and looking at the reviews makes me even more confident. However, I'm not sure if I should wait a big longer for tablets to get quad-core, and if that would affect gaming for me in the near future. (Like for example, newer 3D games would be hard to run since I don't have quad-core).
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I still think the ASUS Transformer is tops with the dock. AND they have UX ported.
However the Galaxy Tab(s) are going to get good development. But hell so does the Transformer.
I would say wait for Kal-El. But they keep pushing it back.
Well, I'm actually not planning on rooting it only because its a gift and I have my phone to mess around with so I don't really care for that. I know what you mean though about kal-el. I want to wait for it, but its not certain when it will come out or anything and its hard to keep up with the latest and greatest. Thanks though, I'm curious to hear others suggestions

I highly recommend ipad. As of right now none other tablet works like ipad. I bought touchpad during fire sale but I sold it recently because it didn't do better than my phone or laptop.
This means that my touchpad wasn't worth while to bring to work, as it lacked note taking ability nor presenting ability. I bet if u buy galaxy for 500$, you will spend most of time trying to tinker it to do what you intended to but ultimately gets frustrated and sell it.
Also most of the productivity apps are fine tuned for ipad.
However if you are going to use tablet for media consumption, get kindle fire. It has vast library of amazon goodness. But it lacks mic and ffc which makes skype unusable.

Well, the galaxy tab was good at updating to 3.2 pretty quickly. And since it's their only big tablet (other than the different sizes), it's going to get updated more frequently than the epic most likely (especially since I'm getting the wifi version, so no worries about getting the OTA from Sprint). As much as I want to wait for kal-el, I think I'm just gonna go with the galaxy tab 10.1. Kal-el is keep getting pushed back, and for all I know it won't come out for another 4-5 months. Sure I may miss out on some games, but technology moves fast these days. I guess you gotta find a point and stick with it for a while.

I know what you mean. I've definitely considered the iPad. It's great for gaming, productivity, almost everything. Jailbreaking is harmless and I never have to worry about battery life. But the beauty of Android that I love that it's constantly growing. Not just in rom development, but in the marketplace and system as a whole. I feel like everyday I can wake up and see a new app for Android or a new leak of the latest build. Besides, I love the customizability and Touchwiz UX. And I think I'll be satisfied with it. I have my phone for hacking and everything, so I don't think I'll get too many urges to go and break my tablet.

Nah, I think I've made up my mind. I mean, I know what you're saying. If I were to get an iPad, there would be nothing wrong with it and I'd have no complaints. Yep, I got a Nexus 10, so I'm doing a little trade with XDAer cdromo90 for a little Nexus 7. He wants to give the XOOM to his nephew for a larger screen, and I will probably give the N7 to my nephew for his birthday in a couple of months (his mom got a Kindle Fire for Christmas, and I think he's been bitten by the Android bug, so I want to make sure he gets off to a good start! )
As one of the very first people to own the very first Android tablet, I have to say it's been a great ride. I was one of the lucky ones who got a VZW 3G XOOM on day one at a discounted price ($200 off) due to a glitch in Motorola's system (You guys remember THAT? Ha! Still one of the best deals I've ever gotten hands down!). It was my first experience as an early adopter of any device, and I have to say it's been a great experience! To see Android tablets come from Honeycomb and grow up to Jellybean really made me appreciate being on the cutting edge. Not only has the XOOM gotten better with every Android update, but even to this day I feel like it's still good enough for a daily driver even with all of the new tablets coming out, not to mention I still think it's the best built, best looking tablet to this day (I love the N10, and a few other tablets have been ok looking, but the XOOM is just a marvelously well built piece of technology.) With custom Jelly Bean ROMS and the ability to overclock it, I felt like it still had a good amount of life left in it, and I'm happy to pass it along to someone who will still use and enjoy it instead of it sitting in my closet as a backup.
So, off I ride into the sunset. So long, XOOMers!
My old wifi Xoom
Team EOS is keeping my Xoom interesting with their Jellybean 4.2 nightlies. There still isn't much I can't do with this old tablet. And like you said it's still the best built and best looking tablet around .

I agree, but I jumped to the N10 when I began to doubt the Xoom would get 4G with JB 4.2. I'm glad I was wrong on that, but now I wpn't give up the incredible resolution on the N10.
The Xoom is definitely showing its age but its been pretty awesome to see its performance increase from 3.x to 4.0 to 4.1.
Enjoy the Nexus 10, I'm mildly jealous but I'm waiting for next year's nexus 10" and really hoping its built by Motorola.
Funny enough I can't see myself parting with my Xoom. It may overtaken by newer devices but it is a fine solid bit of kit and can just be retasked to other duties. I saw one being built into a car as a multimedia centre. There will always be a use for it until it dies

I bought nexus 7 3g and I'm really happy. the top reasons to consider nexus 7 are: less hand fatigue, 100 % so portable, fast software update, good customer support( service centre just in front of my house), its an Asian product and cheap. reasons to dump Xoom: lack of software update, Motorola doesn't keep their promises, bulky, hand fatigue, not really portable, most of all, hard to play games especially when pressing button. so goodbye xoomers.

I thought about selling my Xoom when the nexus 10 came out. I decided to keep it and avoid the hassle of selling the Xoom. Also decided to buy a nexus 7. Really happy that I decided to keep the Xoom. I really like the fact that I have the LTE Verizon version. Also like the fact that it has a camera (and a pretty decent one at that) and HDMI out. It is starting to show is age a bit, but it's no doubt a well built quality device. I'm sure we'll never see key like pie, but Team EOS and CyanogenMod have kept the Xoom relevant with their hard work on 4.2. I'll be keeping mine for at least another year.

I'm tempted to purchase a new tablet but my xoom is just so well built and still works extremely well for my casual usage although its showing its age. I'm more tempted to buy a galaxy s4/note3 when they release then a new tablet though.

Just ordered a Nexus 10... But hanging onto my XOOM just in case... Should be interesting. I think I'll miss my built in MicroSD Card Reader the most...

I love new gadgets and some of the new tablet screens look great but I haven't found anything I can't do on my old xoom. Getting itchy for a new toy/tool but will keep my xoom. I did give up on paying Verizon for data especially when they can't be bothered to update the software and support their customers. I will never buy another Verizon branded tablet. Many thanks to our developers for keeping my xoom up to speed.

Same. For someone who has never owned a tablet, it's great. Reading is a pleasure.

for me xoom is one of the best old tablet. i have use it for more then 1 year. but, one thing for sure, when i play games or reading when i hold it, makes my hand fatigue, therefore i cant hold it for too long. so i decided to buy nexus 7, and that is a wise decision

My XOOM entered Hall of Fame, I will never let it gone.
As I did do the same with my Casio Agenda, HP 24C, HP 48G (it was stolen, unfortunately) and my Palm Life Drive.
Enviado de meu XOOM MZ605 (Android 4.2.2 pelo Team EOS 4).
Wow same here...just got the nexus 7 and looking to sell my xoom. It has been great and still is.

I am on EOS4 build184on my WiFi Xoom and its running perfectly. I'm overclocked to 1600Mhz and its running smooth and fast. JB 4.2.1 is not meant to run on this old processor but Team EOS has managed to make my Xoom run like the best of tablets. I do have to mention the fact that I am using a 3rd party keyboard and Nova launcher to get past some of the shortcomings of this old hardware but I'm satisfied with it.
