I'm in Germany now... I'm looking for the release in Europe of the Transformer Tf300t without the dock which is about 399€.... on the other hand I have the Iconia A700 in preorder in amazon for 480€ (that i guess i will have it as latest for middle of June, what do you think?).
Which one would you pick and why?
Thanks...
I picked the TF300, cause I'm on a budget and really wanted the keyboard dock. LOVE the dock. Don't see me ever buying a tablet that doesn't have something comaprable.
Imagine the resolution on the A700 is nice though.
If money isn't an issue, perhaps you should wait for the TF700. Get the high resolution, high specs, and a dock.
When the tf700 comes out I plan on selling my tf300 and pick up the tf700. Once having the dock, can't picture going back to Acer.
one thing i'm afraid of, is in the Iconia A700, what will happen with all those apps not prepared for that high resolution? and another thing will be: will the tf300 look much more portable rather than the Iconia A700?
I think i prefer the A700 but i want it now!! jeje
I bought the TF300, it is an awesome tablet, and I really can't afford what they are going to charge for the 700. Other than a full HD screen, I don't see any advantages to it.
i'd buy the a700 but since i do heavy typing the tf300t is more for me.
Thread revival
I have this decision to make now and it seems to be a very difficult one. They are at the same price for the 16G tf300t vs 32G A700.
I don't mind having less storage as I do plan to get and extra sd card, however I do intend to use the tablet for gaming while on travels. I still read lots of posts about the Acer being slow and laggy in some games. I don't know how updated these reviews are. Maybe it got fixed, maybe there are patches. Would love the A700 as I think the high res screen will look nice for movies and general browsing.
However, I would overlook the high res and more storage If I could know for sure that the TF300T would perform better in the latest games.
Erm how about actually using them yourself??? I HATE people that buy stuff because others tell them too. When I buy something I do my homework, I go & test the unit myself & even play games on them if I have to. Thats how I decide.

Yes, and put the two devices side by side, they are both ok and fast. So the obvious choice would be the A700 because of the screen and storage space. However, I cannot go into a shop and expect to be able to install one of the new, full, 3D, games on both of them to see which lags more. That is what I would expect to clear from an answer here.

Its being phased out. Hardly any stock left or sold out. Any stores that do have them only have 1 or 2 so prices are dropping to get rid of old merchandise.

I tried them both and by far I prefer the TF300T. The keyboard is a huge plus, and the Asus seems a bit snappier. The only thing I liked better about the acer was the onboard usb port.

As far as I'm concerned they're both quadcore - which 3d game shouldn't work? If it lags or doesn't run as expected there's always the chance to unlock and get a recovery in order to flash a custom rom.
I myself had to decide between these two tablets just recently - I took the TF300T, simply because of the keydocking - would be a pain in the ass to write things down while being in a lecture without keyboard...
But I don't see no reason why any 3d game shouldn't work - hell, even my old Desire HD did a good job on Mass Effect Infiltrator
Though some people thought the screen resolution of the A700 wouldn't be too good - don't know why they thought it, maybe they expect Apps which are not optimized for this resolution to be too tiny to even be used properly, I don't know...
If it helps you, I decided to buy the tf300t and although I don't really play 3d games that often, I have to tell you that I fell in love with this tablet

So NewEgg has a deal on the Galaxy tab currently (30 dollars off plus 50 dollar gift card) and was wondering if it is still something worth buying. Considering the progress made with HC as is, I can only expect it to get better if/when Google releases source.
For the price, is it still something you would buy today?
I just bought mine a couple of weeks ago and have no complaints. It gets used way more than my Asus Transformer does. I love the 7" screen, perfect size for me.

Was looking at the transformer too. May I ask why? Is it too big?
Exactly. Try reading a book with a 10" device always seem to need two hands. Typing with both thumbs on the Tab vs finger pecking on the transformer. The size of the 7" is perfect for me.

its worth buying if you can get a deal.
As mentioned above 7" is a major bonus. By implication though it means you really want 3G as well. When I was contracting (and hence moving around, taking a lot of different public transport routes etc.) it was an awesome travel companion. It also makes it a great ereader in a pinch.
Custom ROM it and performance is pretty good, esp. as Samsung's browser is hardware accelerated.
If its going to be sitting on your coffee table w/ wifi though, or the price is comparable to a 'current' honeycomb Tegra 2 10" slab, I'd go honeycomb/dual core. There's not much of an upgrade path for it, honeycomb is going to be an unofficial port (if at all?)
I got mine at a knockdown price and really like it. However I still wouldn't have paid RRP for it (by the same token I'm not paying RRP for transformer etc. or even ipad so duh)

Agreed... pretty easy to find on ebay or CL for $250 or less... picking up another one tomorrow for $200... Almost as good a deal as the HP TP and a lot more clarity about its future, apps, upgradability, etc.
It's still a great device. Is it the newest and latest? Nope. Will it run tons of great apps and be a solid performer for most of your uses? Sure! Now is also the time to snap up cheap discounted cases and other accessories for the 7".
I flashed the Overcome ROM on mine after I was tired of waiting on T-Mobile for the 2.3 update. That's a great ROM. Super battery life, video calling (with FFC working great) via Google Talk, excellent ebook reader, calls over Google Voice with Groove IP, etc etc.
I say this even though I also have the Galaxy 10.1. That's for lazy home use. I can take the 7" with me just about everywhere.

funny, I have the same mindset/usage pattern between my Galaxy Tab and my iPad...
I been hearing great things about the SGS2 so I set aside the cash for it and yesterday went to get it but came back without making the purchase.
When I held it in my hands I just couldnt figure out how the puny screen could be any better than my SGT. Battery life is similar, I can run similar or same applications and both can do depending on what I install from the market. With the custom ROMs my SGT OS is probably higher version, less buggy and smoother than what I would get on the SGS2. Yea there might be some new high tech capabilities but do I need it. Most likely not and at this time don't even know what they are.
So I gave up the idea of going smaller than the 7". Quite a while back I kicked the idea of going bigger than 7". I can still put my SGT in my back pocket or my jacket breast pocket and cary it with me anywhere. Try doing that with anything biger than 7".
For me there is absolutely no good reason to go for anything else for a while.
Yep, still worth buying.

New or used?
I'm looking at buying another used one for $200CDN for my GF. She prefers the Galaxy Tab over the Transformer as well.
I'm thinking about buying 3 of these for the office because of the portability. It would make a great tool for our QC department.
Definitely worth buying. Look at my signature of what I have had and look at which tab is still standing. The 7" form factor is the best. Not to mention this thing plays any video I've thrown at it. Such was not the case for the others tabs.

Or he might not. There have been numerous, well documented issues around the lack of QA on the Prime's release.
The real question is WHAT are you going to use the tablet for? If you want high powered Android gaming then maybe you SHOULD look at the Prime. I think all the really defective ones are out of the supply chain now. But if you buy the Prime and GPS is important to you, expect to buy an external GPS puck or find a way for your phone to supply GPS.
What should you know about the TF101?
ICS is currently expected in early to mid Feb.
The battery life rocks, and with the dock is incredible.
Tablet is rootable, but the bootloader is encrypted.
CWM and some nice ROMs are available, Krakd and Revolver are the most popular. I can't make a recommendation, I just installed Krakd about 20 min ago.
If you get the keyboard/dock and the cursor randomly jumps from field to field turn off the touch pad.

I don't think so. I'm perfectly happy with my TF101 and plan on using it for a while. The duo core tablet won't be outdated for at least a couple more years. Remember that the prime's only real advantage over the OG is gaming. If the OP doesn't game, there's really no point in getting the prime.
I picked up a used one on craigslist two weekends ago. Absolutely love it. Not having the quad core hasnt bothered me and having the extra 300 dollars in my pocket (got it for 350 with a dock) was well worth it.
I have had issues trying to get a custom rom on it. Mine is rooted .21 but not so clear on how to get the recovery on there for some reason.
I have had zero problems (operational) the past two weeks with my TF101. Completely enjoy having it.

TF 101 rocks
For the money I and less hassles I would get the TF101, personally I think serious gaming on a tablet is not worth an upgrade to a prime. The controller situation is not great or even good compared to a console or computer.

only lingering problem I know of is GPS. That isn't huge for most people with a wifi tablet. Original 101 has its problems too like quality control issues and falling AC adapters.
Not to mention the 201 has a faster processor and more cores, typically more storage than the most common 101s. Battery life might be better, screen might be better, etc.

Well guys i am planning to buy a Tablet with a 7" or 10" Display i am hung up on 3-4 Options

2) Asus Transformer
3) BlackBerry Playbook
4) Nook colour Or a Kindle Fire

Well, the nook and playbook aren't 10' , and the new transformer is also 7' so there's that. I think the Transformer and Playbook have a lot of Dev support, but I don't know to what extent for the Playbook. Take a look in their forum, see what kinds of Roms they have. I bet the Playbook will have CM9 before we do, but not by much. I love my Tranny, and I think you will too. I bought my 32 gb for 350, so shop around and get the best deal and then...buy the dock.

for me, the decision was to wait for MeMo or get the transformer now. I got a transformer for a few reasons:
1. I would have been happy with a 7" screen, but I'm happier with a 10".
2. The MeMo will not have a keyboard dock (probably not at least).
3. Since the tegra2 devices have been on the market much longer than the tegra3 devices, the software and manufacturing are more mature and I don't want to be a beta tester for a new device.

Just got me a 101 with 32gb for $350 at Ebay, mint condition. The tab is perfect, all features work including a very fast gps lock. With Android 3.2 you're just one step to the Ice Cream Sandwich. I recommend the 101, everything works and the price just right. You will be pleased!
I wouldn't get any of the products you have listed. I would save up a bit longer and get the Prime (if you really need one soon) or wait until Q2 and pickup the TF701 (the 1920x1080 res one).
All of the products you listed (besides the Kindle / Nook) are at the EOL or completely done (Touchpad).
The Nook/Kindle are just under powered imo.
Don't get me wrong, all of the ones I've played with are nice devices. Just if I am spending a decent amount of money on something, I want it to be new and good for a while after I purchase it, not something that is already outdated.

You’re somewhat late buying a 101 for $400.

Products become outdated only when it's no longer supported by the maker or new software is no longer available. The Transformer is not outdated, in fact over 99% of the apps out there will run on it, and Asus is about to provide an ICS update that will enhance its functionality. For your targeted budget I would consider the Transformer as the best buy among those in your list.
The other consideration is your own personal usage, what kind of programs are planning to run on your tablet? Most users want something with reader functions to read books, media entertainment like music and movies, children educational programs, internet browsing, video and audio chatting, newspapers and magazines, personal data managment like bills, records, checkbooks. The Transformer will do all these and more for you.
yes the tablet is a beast.
got mine for 270 on ebay mint condition and im loving it
rooted with custom rom. sucks i cant get a keyboard cheap
im a college student a keyboard is a must buy for me. for now i cant really buy anything since school is sucking up all my money
anyway you should buy it although the development for it is really slow. we still waiting for ICS( FFS Asus hurry the fudge up)
I think the Asus Transformer is still very much a relevant tablet. I just got mine from Tiger Direct for $299 on a Valentine's Special.
Right now the development and spec are growing exponentially and you will find yourself waiting just a little bit longer for the next version and never buy anything.
The TF101 is a very capable tablet that wi compatible with 99%+ of what is in the market right now. It is also one of the first tablets slated to receive ICS (March-2012).
My only thought here is that for $400 retail is a bit stiff knowing the prime is about $100 more. Shop around so that you don't pay full retail price. If you get a good deal, you will end up with a table that will satisfy your needs very well, and will probably cover your wants for a while too.
Get it and enjoy it!
I bought mine a few weeks ago. I did a ton of research on what's around at the moment and tossed around the idea of 7 inch vs 10 inch, looked into cost, read a ton of reviews. I couldn't justify anything as being a better deal than the Transformer w/ dock.
A few weeks later and I'm more than happy with my choice. It's a wonderful device.

But keep in mind it was slated to receive ICS in December-2011, then in January, then in February and now they say March. I wouldn't buy Transformer now unless it dropped in price. Better go for sth without Tegra, so you can watch any movie you want on the tablet. Avoid Blackberry too and all 1024x600 resolution tablets.
I bought my new 32GB TF101 last week when Best Buy had it on sale for $399 and I couldn't be happier. I wasn't going to take the chance on a Prime for $100 more (when you can actually find someone who has it in stock) with all of the reported issues. Especially in my case where I was trying to replace my Acer A500 that had really poor wifi signal strength so I didn't want to go from one bad one to another.
Sure the Prime is much better on paper, but with the list of issues that it has I am not so sure it is a great buy right now. If it was readily in stock it might be worth at least a chance because you could try exchanging it a couple times, but IMO it certainly isn't worth it when your only other option is to RMA it.

*lol* I looked for one. It seemed a few weeks ago there wasn't *any* in existance at any price. Right now I'm happy with the one I have - might upgrade next year, to this years model.
I got the 16 gig and tossed a 16 gig SD card I had lying around.
Well thanks for your input guys all I want from my tablet is Entertainment like games and movies nothing else. I have seen people saying that this tablet is a bit heavy and you cant carry it wherever you go so what's your say on this. And the most important factor is I live In india and the only store that ships it is Amazon I can't find any other option to buy from

I am quite confused whether to wait for the launch of TF701 or just buy a transformer

I've had my hands on a Transformer for a while now and I must say it's great.
If your question was : Will I enjoy using a TF101?
I'd say : Definitely!
Will there be some other sexy tablet released in the near future that you'll want to buy ?
Most likely! but keep in mind that this will always be the case... There's always something new and exciting to wait for.
The Android is always greener on the other side of my time machine...

Though I would love quick updates, I plan on using my transformer for quite awhile. Unless I somehow win the lottery and all my tech dreams could become reality...just some wishful thinking.
tf101 isnt going to cut it for engineering next year so i was going to get a zenbook but i do like having a tablet around and the nexus 7 seems to be the best bang for your buck,
No interest in the Nexus, but I'll be following the release of the 700. If it doesn't have the issues of the Prime, I may upgrade.
Almost began to think about it....
Nexus 7 looks nice, and at a good price. Plus, updates straight from google sounds wonderful (although having an asus is the next best thing). However, unless it had a keyboard like the transformer, I just can't see myself making the upgrade.
At first I was tempted but I would miss the 10" screen to read. Plus I have my hesitations with ASUS throwing the Nexus 7 together in the short amount of developing time they had.
Nope .... I currently have the TF101 and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. Updates from Google would be great with the Nexus 7, but I'd miss the IR blaster feature of the Samsung (currently use the Peel app with it), and right now I just have no need or use for 2 different 7" tabs. I'm planning to buy a new 10" tablet in a month or so, though, to replace the TF101.
I have a Nexus7 on order (a 16GB one, given the lack of MicroSD), but am keeping my transformer. They will serve different purposes (I believe).
If it turns out the Nexus7 replaces the TF, then I will sell it, but I am anticipating they will live in harmony...
The TF has too much functionality with the dock and size to give up. I'm considering getting the TF700, assuming it has no problems unlike the tf201 and tf101 had when they came out. I'd like to use it in college to replace my notebook, and maybe my books.
Also, Asus took care of every problem the TF lineup has had so far, even replacing hardware in the tf101 dock and giving away the TF201 gps dongle. That is awesome customer service. On top of that I have 2 local Asus service centers here, both of which have people who are willing to help and with most repairs done within 24 hours, and if they don't have the parts in stock I can keep my tablet until they come in. I doubt Google can even come close to that customer service. Give me an Asus Nexus tablet and we'll talk.

ASUS makes the Nexus 7, so your wish is granted!
Thought about it but for me it makes more sense to wait as my TF101 is working fine so far (Revolver). I take it on trips with my external SD card have access to music and shows.
Got used to the big screen, although id like to see something in between 8 - 10 inches. Hopefully the next batch of tablets from google will make warrant a switch (2GB maybe?)
The TF101 is a great device (if you exclude the software problems), hope to get a good working stable port from JB

So, if it breaks, I take it to the Asus service center? Awesome.
Now I just need the nexus version of the TF700!:victory:
I thought about it, but the screen size and functionality of the transformer is much more suited to my needs. To satisfy my gadget hunger, I may buy one for the other half though. Seems too good not to? I use my tablet all the time at home, the nexus 7 is ideal to take out with you, except for the lack of 3g. Hot spots are everywhere around here though.

Sell an asus tablet and buy another asus tablet.... ummm no.
Sell an asus tablet and never buy another one.... yes
as much as i liked my 7" Gtab i dont think i could drop down in size.
the keyboard and connectivity are brilliant so i think the Tf300 could be on the cards at some point or see what the next gen after that brings.
I'm going to sell one of my laptops on eBay and buy the Nexus 7. I'll be keeping my TF though. - sheureka
I want one but 10 inch is better in my opinion (that's what she said).
Like everyone here said ima upgrade to the infinity instead. Although nexus 7 is really a beasty tablet

spent 550 for my xformer and its dock.
bought the nexus7 16gb for 234 (deal).
i dont think itll be worth it to throw my xformer away for like 200 with dock (guessing thats how much its worth). might just keep it on the side for kicks and giggles.
honestly i cant imagine using the transformer and a nexus 7 tho.

Keeping transformer and ordering nexus 16g version. Having also Nook color on cm7 my preference is for 7 to 8 inch form.
Debating whether to keep nook color though for reader only as wife or kids can still use it to read.

I've thought about it but I know I would miss the keyboard. IMO a 10" screen is too awkward for me to type comfortably on in landscape mode because I have smaller hands, although it is a nice size for general viewing and media consumption. In hindsight I probably would have been better off getting the slider since in the year I've had the TF and dock I rarely ever use the touchpad. I think 8"-9" would be a perfect size for me.

So im considering buying a Xoom since now they are priced relatively cheap. My concerns are that reviews ive read dont really paint the tablet in a great light. My question is after rooting and installing jelley bean does the performance increase, and is it worth a buy for $250?

IMHO yes and no. The best thing about the Xoom is that it is a Google experience device. It is starting to show its age and you won't get the performance of a more recent tablet. The Xoom still has the best build quality I have ever seen. I dropped it on tile once and it just got a scratch. The tile cracked lol. If you don't mind the skinning and paying a little more get the note 10.1. If you want a damn quick 7" Google experience device get the nexus 7. If you want a quality built 10" tablet for a good price get the Xoom. Once again all IMHO.

Hi I've had a xoom from day one.
Jelly bean has improved it yet again.
Considering the price of new tablets, I only recommend it if you can get it for Less than 200 dols.
It's a bit heavy and thick but it's works a charm, great build quality and I just fling it on my back pack when I'm on the go, it's so tough.

I would say, if you can stretch your budget, then no. I Had a Xoom & thought is was pretty great with JB on it. Then I picked up a Transformer tf300t from ebay & realized how old & behind the Xoom is, even with JB. Plus, the TF300 already has JB, too. Sold my Xoom for $220, & bought my TF300 for $325. Well worth the extra money.
I recently picked up a Xoom less than a month ago and I ABSOLUTELY love it.
