[Q] Reboot/Freeze In Music App - Locked - Change Orientation - Droid X General

I know I have seen a thread about this before but I can't recall if it was on XDA or perhaps Droid Life; XDA seems to be the generally more knowledgeable group of people so I thought I would ask here.
I experience frequent lockups and or reboots (I know one causes the other, so...) when doing most anything media related. They are related but come in two different varieties:
1. Music Playing. I typically only play music while on an airplane and most of my flights are at night, so I will try and load a playlist then lock the screen. Almost always I will get through about half a song and the phone will reboot. Testing has revealed the reliable way to cause this is simple: Start a song, lock the screen, turn the phone. It wont wake back up and if it does it will freeze until it reboots or you pull the battery.
2. Movie Playing. Since I obviously don't turn off the screen while the movie is playing, the above is not an issue. Sometimes - but not all the time - while using the built-in movie player the phone will be completely unresponsive. I cannot pause, stop, or change volume. The movie will continue to play just fine though. I haven't tested what happens when the file ends as I usually notice it near the beginning of a file and must have the ability to pause it. There's no reliable way to get this to happen, although it almost always happens while in-flight (again, the only time I really use it, so that doesn't mean anything).
I know other people have experienced these issues before, but are there any reliable SOLUTIONS? I have rooted before, before the 2.3 update. The 2.3 update bricked the phone and I SBF'd my way back - root was gone. I re-rooted some time later, then undid the root in order to use Flixter. Just yesterday I did the .621 update and again bricked the phone, SBF'd back to life again. I'm not ruling out the history of rooting to have causes these issues, but I'd like to fix it if I can.
Thanks to all!

Issues since updating my Bravo

I would like to start this out by saying that I have had my Bravo since January 16, and have loved every minute of it. This has been my first Android (Came over from my iPhone 3G). I was extremely excited to finally get the upgrade to 2.2, even though I decided to wait to officially download it OTA.
Since I got my phone, I had no more than three to five apps force close on my using the stock launcher. I rarely noticed much of any lag while working with my phone, and I never once had any issues with the phone rebooting itself on me.
Since I updated my phone on Saturday I've been plagued with all of these issues. Immediately after updating, I noticed my phone was running very hot, and my battery drained to 50% within an hour or two without me even running anything stressful on it. I restarted it twice and since then I haven't noticed any significant issues with my battery, or the phone seeming to run it's processor excessively.
But, I have constant lag, making tasks that were extremely quick and easy before the weekend be significantly more difficult and frustrating. Today I've even noticed that the lag is so bad that I am not even able to use Swype because the phone takes so long to register any touch's it doesn't register anything other than the first and last letter I swyped across. In addition, my phone has rebooted itself 3 times within the last three days I've been using it, an issue that has not happened once in the three months before this weekend.
I will regularly be trying to do things on my phone and it will lag, causing the phone to freeze for 20-30 seconds at a time, and then trying to perform every touch it received in those 20-30 seconds in a scant second after it recovers.
I have noticed some issues not regarding lag, but sometimes it has been difficult for my phone to initiate calls. I have tried to call my wife, and it took 5 times before the call would finally go through, it was immediately ending the call right after I pressed the call button.
I love my phone and the capabilities of the Android system. Until now I haven't had any problems at all with it. Can you help me try to figure out what's happening, and if there are any ways to fix my phone? I haven't gotten around to rooting my phone since I've gotten it, but have been planning on it.

Something probably is messed up in the upgrade process.
Simple solution, flash the 2.2 sbf and you should be good.
roadkizzle, Something doesn't sound right at all with your update. I would try to remove the battery for a minute and reboot. If you still have issues I would try a factory data reset. If that doesn't cure your ills then flashing the 2.2sbf as bandroidx suggested may be in order.
Alright, I flashed the SBF file to the phone through RSDLite, and from what I can see it went through correctly. My only question now is do you think I'll need to try to re-install the full update? Or is that similar to what I did?

flashing the sbf already updated your phone to 2.2. You don't need to do anything else
I hope reflashing did the trick for you. That experience sounds nasty...
Sent from my MB520 using XDA App
Well, after a couple of hours of playing with my phone it's seeming better. I have been playing a few games of Worms, and my normal surfing the internet and so far I haven't noticed any real lag. The test will be my day through tomorrow.
I was just really confused because I was following the instructions from the Flashing SPRecovery SBF to a Motorola Droid youtube video, and his SBF file really seemed to only change the recovery screen. It looked like he still had to go through the actual update.zip process to make the actual updates to his phone.
Alright it's official, flashing the sbf did not fix the lag issues. My phone hasn't had a critical malfunction and reboot itself yet today, but the lag is unbearable.
roadkizzle, It sounds like you are still having issues. If you look at the system version in "about phone" in settings menu does it say version 37.4.0.MB520??
Yes, it says Version.37.4.0.MB520.ATT.en.US

what apps do you have installed?
look in task master and get rid of any auto-ends and reboot and see if that makes a difference
Well, immediately after removing the AT&T apps from the auto-end list and rebooting, I thought I noticed some lag initially, but I've let it run for a few days now doing everything I was before and I've not been having any of those issues recently.
I'm not sure what it was. I wasn't very aggressive adding apps to my auto-end list, really just Maps and the AT&T apps. I added maps after a while because when I would use it once it would stay open and I'd notice later on that it would have been a major consumer of my battery, and I couldn't figure out how to close it fully.
Glad to hear things are going better. I had some issues totally unrelated to the apps I had in auto-end but pulling all of them off of auto-end got rid of the issues. Froyo is supposed to minimise the need for having to add apps to auto-end in task manager. Regards

roadkizzle - my situation sounds very similar to yours and I wanted see if you are also seeing a couple of other symptoms I've seen beyond what you have indicated. This has been an issue from early on for me. At first it seemed to be associated to when the battery was low, but it is now ever increasingly interrupting my use of the phone. I was hoping 2.2 might resolve some of this, but it hasn't.
Background: Purchased/activated phone early Jan 2011; recently upgraded to the 2.2 sys and used the official channels; all apps I've added are lightweight stuff (ex: notepad-type stuff, weather widget) and I have pushed most unused stuff to the auto-end list.
Similar symptoms: I see the same power drain and high CPU usage when using maps/navigator (really evident on a recent trip). Still monitoring if some of that can be attributed to use of the GPS.
I'm getting a similar lag though I wish it was only for the short period you are seeing. I've only rarely been able to just put the phone down and have it responsive when I get back to it. Maps/Navigator were especially susceptible to this problem, and it seemed consistent with the 90%+ CPU usage often seen when they are running.
I don't use swipe, but the keypad is most often what is being used when the lag kicks in... the entire phone just goes completely unresponsive, including any and all other input such as the hardware home/back keys, etc.
In addition: Better than half the time that the qwerty touchpad becomes unresponsive, I see sporadically entered random keystrokes to my messages... everything from initiating the voice input to entering several dozen spaces or just simple random characters. This happens at a random, often changing rate and I see the keys lighting up and the haptic responses happen as if I were touching the keys, but they are not from any delay in the input. Once ruling out an exorcism, this has started me thinking I might have a hardware issue with the touchpad. The phone has not been dropped or roughed up in any way, so if it is HDWR, it's a manuf issue.
Luckily.... in 99% of the cases where this happens, using the HDWR power button to cycle the screen through a sleep and back resolves the issue. Not a big deal unless you have to do it 3 times to send one text/mail. This has me constantly thinking about items on the auto-end list but I have not unearthed anything to support that.
The other 1% of the time I have had to reboot the phone, but in those cases I can't rule out 'user issues' due to just pure frustration. Task Manager has become my most freq used app, but often I see everything at 0% CPU and/or not running.
I'm wondering if any of these additional symptoms sound familiar...
thx.

Try taking things off of the auto-end list. You shouldn't need the task killer because android manages apps on its own (it's supposed to manage apps better in froyo than in 2.1)
I've also had lag, especially when opening maps (the first time I open maps it often force closes).
Can anyone get the "lock pattern" screen without the slide to unlock? It seems like a common "Motorola 2.2" issue, but I can't figure out if it gets resolved through an update or not

it can be fixed through the settings.db in the com.android.providers.settings, but i dont remember what to edit inside.
or you can download No Lock from the Market

NoLlock just seems to turn the lock screen on and off altogether?
I can get the screen lock on and off, I just can't get the pattern lock without the side-to-side swipe lock at the same time
This is messing with
PS . If you can't get your screen to stop locking all the time with froyo 2.2.1dissable it in the same location ID # 61 screen_lock set to 0. ),

and the settings menus.
There are several other seemingly lock-related database settings, but I'm worried about locking myself out

[Q] Sudden gremlins

I have an AT&T GS4 with the MF3 update. I rooted it back in October, then tried to un-root it in November, which worked as far as root checker is concerned. It still says "custom" with a lock symbol when I turn it on though.
Anyway, yesterday afternoon it started doing weird things.
-The play/pause button on the headphones doesn't play or pause anything, though if i hold it I still get the voice commands.
-Scrolling in apps and menus hesitates and skips.
-It hangs up when I wake it up before it will let me swipe to unlock.
-Sometimes while listening to podcasts it will just pause them, or switch to google music for less than a second before pausing all sound in the headphones.
-Once when I picked it up off my desk (with the screen off and nothing plugged into it) it started playing google music out loud in my silent office.
All of this started suddenly yesterday afternoon. I had not downloaded any new apps in a while, and I didn't really notice if anything was updated.
I have tried formatting my SD card, closing as many running apps as I can identify, rebooting, removing the battery, removing the SD card, and cleaning out the headphone jack of dust. Oh, and I tried to download wakelock detector, but it will not install. No errors, it just downloads and sits at 100% without installing.
I have very little experience with messing with Android, since I came from an iPhone back in August to this, and didn't get to play with anything before I got the awful MF3 update. So if anybody has any suggestions, keep that level of knowledge in mind.
In attempting to back up my data, it will not connect to my computer. I have a mac with Android File Transfer that I have used in the past, but just says it cannot connect. It did connect once, but it took a few tries and now it won't connect again.

[Q]Galaxy S4 Lollipop random reboots and audio slowness

Hello,
I have a Galaxy S4 which used to run a cyanogenmod install. I have recently moved to what I believe to be stock Lollipop but I am encountering some problems. I am not sure if these problems are unrelated or not so I prefer to present them all together in one place:
1. Random reboots. I am aware Lollipop has had random reboots as an issue for a while now, but my symptoms do not match exactly what I could find on the internet. The reboots happen randomly throughout the day (does not matter if phone is charging or not) and I have noticed they happen a lot more frequently if I am in a space with not mobile signal (but I do have wifi). The reboots happen when in safe mode as well. I have also tried removing the sd card, but that did not improve the situation.
2. Audio sluggishness. I occasionally get slow downs in audio when listening to music or podcasts. I have noticed this both when using headphones and Bluetooth speakers. I am not sure, but I don't think I've ever noticed this when playing audio over the phone's speakers. The audio effect sounds like someone is slowing down a vinyl disc for a couple of seconds. It happens almost exclusively when the screen is off. It also happens more often when listening to music over spotify or podcasts over podcast addict than when listening to music over the Google Music app.
3. Random connect disconnect to laptop. When connecting the phone via USB to the laptop, it randomly seems to disconnect and reconnect to the computer. It happens more often when I try and move the phone (although not consistently) but also when the phone is untouched.
4. Occasional phone slowness. Haven't noticed it happening consistently, but the phone does occasionally seem to take a couple of seconds to reply to simple commands, like, say, displaying a list of all open apps.
One of my concerns is that I might have the wrong firmware/baseband installed and that might be causing issues. Is there a way for me to check I haven't done something stupid? What is the easiest way of posting my system config here?
Thanks!

Major sound and performance issues (Video & Sound related)

Starting Friday my phones been running slowish, keep getting worse and worse. I would reset, take the battery out hold down the power button, turn it back on. It would only briefly fix the issue.
So long story short here is the problem. When ever any of the following happens, I go to play music, to record a video, watch a video (via app, browser or player), or the screen times out.
If I do a video or music the app freezes, the screen will go black an sometimes never cuts back on. If it does its very slow and not responsive. If the screen times out, I can get back in but with no sound.
I have flashed back to stock (odin to NB1) hoping this will fix the issue, but didn't, re-flash a NB1 stock Kernal, still didn't fix the issue (actually made it worse, no sound never).
Prior to all this happening, I was running a STOCK rooted rom. The only thing that changed was the SMS app I was using went from 14 free trail to ad supported. I really hate to think the app had anything to do with it. I was not running any ad blocker.
So any ideas? I believe its goner be a loss. Is there an app I can get to test hardware, see if there is a problem there?
UPDATE: I ended up taking it to Best Buy and they used their software to re-image the phone. They did it to 5.0.1., and then the screen rotate didn't work. Odin to stock and trying this again.

New Edge, 3 issues: 1. black screen, 2. camera prob, 3. odd sound playback behavior

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone else has seen anything like what I have seen with my new Edge.
I've had it for a week - I love the phone, the camera, the performance - there's a ton to love. This is the first phone I have not rooted and hacked on day one in at least 6 years.
OTOH, I have experienced 3 issues with the phone, after never experiencing a single issue in almost a year with an s6.
S7 Edge International, 64GB SanDisk Extreme Plus SD card.
1. Last night, my phone was in my pocket while I was doing some stuff, and when I pulled it out, it was completely unresponsive. Black screen, no cap buttons, nothing. I didn't even remember how to force a reboot - I haven't had an issue like this with a phone in a long time. I tried charging it (maybe the battery had dies?) - nope. I tried recovery-mode buttons, no good. I stumbled upon vol down and power, and it rebooted fine. No repeats as of yet, but is this anything anyone else has seen?
2. A couple of days ago, the camera wouldn't save pictures. I do not know why. It would open, focus, and the screen would do screen things, as if the photo was taken, but it wouldn't save it and it couldn't be consulted. Oddly, WhatsApp could still take pictures. A reboot fixed the issue, and I've yet to see this repeat, and I did try.
3. This one has repeated several times. I use Spotify for music and PocketCasts for podcasts. Sometimes, when I try to start the sound (with or without headphones), playback starts (the counter advances), but there is no sound. Changing apps doesn't change anything. I thought initially it might be that Game mode was locking out sound resources, so I turned it off - no difference. I tried killing any and all apps that might be stealing the sound - no difference. Once, after dancing around the interface for a bit, it started working, but other times, no. Rebooting obviously fixes the problem. This morning, on the way to work, I experienced the issue, so I placed a phone call - and after the call, the issue was gone. Has anyone else seen anything like this?
That's very strange, especially for the Exynos. I would try a factory reset, if that doesn't fix it, I would request an exchange.
Ugh, a factory reset does not sound like fun at all.

Yes i have had this issue 2wice so far - except that in my case the screen was on (once got stuck on weather page, and another time while i was in google play)
But as yourself - nothing worked anymore - no button no screen nothing at all - vol.down+power is the only trick that worsk
I am too puzzled as in what is causing this - i was looking to install some sort of even viewer app to see if there is a log - but couldnt find one
I cannot imagine what it can be - but whatever it is it completely freezes the phone - the screen wont go off - and it would literally stay like this forever....
2. A couple of days ago, the camera wouldn't save pictures. I do not know why. I have also had this issue - but this is due to SD card not being read properly by the phone - this seems to be an issue with many users and again no idea what is causing it but i heard is due to poor SD tray design

this problem i have not had but i never used the headsets so who know
Overall the phone works OK i dont want to return it just for this - but i do want to understand what can cause esp issue 1 and somehow happy to see its not just me having it - so maybe some sort of RAM/Core mismanagement > IDK
Also i have not had any single system updates since i purchased it on the 8th - so hoping one will hit soon and fix the issues :silly:
BTW fix for the Camera Failed issue is to turn OFF the Smart Stay option
I can add something simillar:
- sometimes the camera wouldn't open at all (error) and every time this is solved only by reboot; 2 times in 5 days already
- sometimes when scrolling in the settings menu, there appears some bluring frames (like an "indecision" between top-bottom...)
I encountered a similar problem with the camera.
While I was capturing a Slow-mo video the phone was getting really hot (Exynos international version, 32GB) but I was like, yea I knew that the phone would become hot because of the chipset so I continued.
At 4:58 the phone would freeze, non responsive to any buttons. After a few minutes the phone would reboot but the video got deleted.
I did this 3 times to check if it could be repeated and I succeeded. 3 times it would stop at 4:58 and crash and burn.
The fix for this problem is to switch from saving photos/videos to SD card to internal storage.
Kind of disappointed because the SD slot was one of the biggest pros to buy the phone..
guys - the camera failure issue can be fixed (until they release an update OTA next week) by disabling smart stay - not sure if this can also fix the slo-mo thing
Try turning off the App Power Saving mode!! This fixed my phone and now i dont have these weird freezes no more!!
